Description
本願は、Monetti他による2005年11月17日に出願された、「Three
Dimensional Complex Coil」という名称の米国仮特許出願第60/738,087号、およびMonetti他による2006年8月17日に出願された、「Three Dimensional Complex Coil」という名称の米国仮特許出願第60/822,656号からの優先権を主張し、上記出願はそれらの全体が本明細書において参考により援用される。
先行技術は、時に「コンプレックス」コイルと呼ばれる三次元(3−D)形状のコイルを用いる体の動脈瘤を処置するための多くの方法およびデバイスを企図する。例えば、参考により援用される特許文献1(Horton)は中空の構造を示す。参考により援用される特許文献2(Phelps)および特許文献3(Ritchart)は他の3−Dコイルの設計を示す。参考により援用される特許文献4(Teoh)は、一連の重なりのないループを教示する。参考により援用される特許文献5(Wallace)はコンプレックスコイルを示す。参考により援用される特許文献6(Ferrera)は、J形状の近位区画がデバイスのコンプレックス部分から離れるように延びることを除いて、TeohおよびWallaceのデバイスと類似しているデバイスを示す。
しかしながら、動脈瘤のより良い処置を提供するための、より発展し、改善されたコンプレックスコイルを提供するという継続した必要性がある。
それゆえ本発明の目的は、先行技術に関して動脈瘤を処置するための改善されたデバイスおよび方法を提供することである。
ここで図面を参照し、まず図1〜図6を参照して、トロイド形状の固定具12を用いて形作られるコイルまたはコンプレックスコイル10が記載される。コイル10は、図1において固定具12の周りに4回巻きつけられており、その結果4つのループ14が形成され、各ループは隣のループから約90度離れて配置される。固定具12の周りにコイル10を巻きつけることで、血管または動脈瘤などの体腔に配置されたときに、コイル10に複雑な形状を形成させる。デバイスは細長いコイルワイヤを形成するためにらせん状に巻かれた1本のワイヤから構成され得る。あるいは、ワイヤは当該分野で公知の方法によって編み組みされるか、または編まれて、二次形状を形成し得る。このワイヤは、好ましくは形状記憶金属(例えば、Nitinol)であり得るが、白金、タンタル、タングステン、ステンレス鋼または他の生体適合性材料であり得る。他の材料(例えば、DacronもしくはNylon繊維、ポリ乳酸もしくはポリグリコール酸などの生物分解性ポリマーおよび膨張可能もしくは膨張不可能なヒドロゲル材料)は、コイルまたは編み組みされた構造の内側または外側に配置され、デバイスの性能を改良し得る。
ここで図7〜図12を参照すると、固定具42を用いるコンプレックスコイル40の製造が示され、該取付け具42は互いに垂直な角度で配置された複数のピン44を含む。図1〜図6に示される実施形態と同様に、図7〜図12における固定具42を用いて形成されるコンプレックスコイル40の実施形態は、コイル状のワイヤを形成するようにらせん状に巻かれている1本のワイヤから作製され得る。あるいは、該ワイヤは当該分野で公知の方法によって編み組みされたり、編み込まれたりされて、二次形状を形成し得る。ワイヤは白金、タンタル、タングステン、ステンレス鋼、Nitinolまたは他の生体適合性材料であり得る。他の材料(例えば、DacronもしくはNylon繊維、ポリ乳酸もしくはポリグリコール酸などの生物分解性ポリマーおよび膨張可能もしくは膨張不可能なヒドロゲル材料)は、コンプレックスコイルまたは編み組みされた構造の内側または外側に配置され、デバイスの性能を改良し得る。例示のみとして、一つの実施形態は、脳動脈瘤などの病気を処置するために用いられ得、約0.125mmから約0.625mmの範囲の直径と、約5mmから約1000mmの長さを有する白金/タングステン合金コンプレックスコイル10(92%Pt、8%W、Sigmund Cohn Mount Vernon,NYから入手可能)を用いる。
Claims (14)
- 脈管治療のためのコンプレックスコイルであって、
該コンプレックスコイルは、ワイヤを備え、
該ワイヤは、第一のループおよび第二のループを連続的に形成し、該第一のループおよび該第二のループは、第一の平面において数字の「8」の第一のパターンを形成するように互いに接合されており、
該ワイヤは、第三のループおよび第四のループを連続的に形成し、該第三のループおよび該第四のループは、第二の平面において数字の「8」の第二のパターンを形成するように互いに接合されており、
該数字の「8」の第一のパターンおよび該数字の「8」の第二のパターンは、間隔を空けて、平行な向きで、互いに対面している、コンプレックスコイル。 - 前記第一のループおよび前記第三のループは、互いに向かい合って整列されている、請求項1に記載のコンプレックスコイル。
- 前記第二のループおよび前記第四のループは、互いに向かい合って整列されている、請求項1に記載のコンプレックスコイル。
- 前記第一のループおよび前記第三のループは、互いに向かい合って整列されている、請求項3に記載のコンプレックスコイル。
- 第五のループおよび第六のループをさらに備え、該第五のループおよび該第六のループの両方は、前記第一のループ、前記第二のループ、前記第三のループ、前記第四のループに対して垂直に向けられている、請求項1に記載のコンプレックスコイル。
- 前記第五のループおよび前記第六のループは、同一の平面内に整列されている、請求項5に記載のコンプレックスコイル。
- 第五のループおよび第六のループをさらに備え、該第五のループおよび該第六のループは、前記第一のループ、前記第二のループ、前記第三のループ、前記第四のループの間の空間に配置されている、請求項1に記載のコンプレックスコイル。
- 前記第五のループおよび前記第六のループは、前記第一のループ、前記第二のループ、前記第三のループ、前記第四のループに対して垂直に向けられている、請求項7に記載のコンプレックスコイル。
- 脈管治療のためのコンプレックスコイルを作成する方法であって、該方法は、
ワイヤを提供することと、
数字の「8」の第一のパターンで第一のループおよび第二のループを連続的に形成することと、
数字の「8」の第二のパターンで第三のループおよび第四のループを連続的に形成することと
を含み、
該数字の「8」の第一のパターンおよび該数字の「8」の第二のパターンは、間隔を空けて、平行な向きで、互いに対面するように形成される、方法。 - 前記数字の「8」の第一のパターンおよび前記数字の「8」の第二のパターンを接続する第五のループを形成することをさらに含み、該第五のループは、前記第一のループ、前記第二のループ、前記第三のループ、前記第四のループに対して垂直に向けられている、請求項9に記載の方法。
- 前記数字の「8」の第一のパターンおよび前記数字の「8」の第二のパターンを接続する前記第五のループを形成することは、第六のループを形成することをも含み、該第六のループは、前記第一のループ、前記第二のループ、前記第三のループ、前記第四のループに対して垂直に向けられている、請求項10に記載の方法。
- 共に前記第一の平面および前記第二の平面に対して垂直な第三の平面および第四の平面を規定する二つのループを形成することは、共に該第一の平面および該第二の平面に対して垂直である第三の平面および第四の平面を規定する二つのループを形成することを含み、前記第五のループおよび前記第六のループは、さらに、互いに平行である、請求項11に記載の方法。
