Description

The present invention relates to a laminated electrophotographic photoreceptor containing a specific diamine compound and an electrophotographic apparatus provided with the same. More particularly, the present invention relates to a laminated electrophotographic photosensitive member having high sensitivity and excellent wear resistance and less deterioration in sensitivity to long-term use, and an electrophotographic apparatus including the same.

The electrophotographic technology invented by CF Carlson is not only used in the field of copiers but also in the fields of various printers and facsimiles in recent years because of its immediacy, high quality and high storability. , Showing a big spread.
This electrophotographic process basically includes (1) uniform charging to an electrophotographic photosensitive member (also simply referred to as “photosensitive member”), (2) formation of an electrostatic latent image by image exposure, and (3) electrostatic latent image. Development of the image with toner, (4) transfer of the toner image to a transfer material (for example, recording paper) (sometimes via a transfer member), (5) image formation by fixing, and (6) cleaning of residual toner. It consists of 6 processes.

Conventionally, inorganic photoreceptors having a photosensitive layer mainly composed of an inorganic photoconductive material such as selenium, an arsenic-selenium alloy, zinc oxide, and cadmium sulfide have been widely used as a photoreceptor that is the core of electrophotographic technology. I came. However, since it has many features not seen in inorganic photoconductive materials such as pollution-free, low cost, and ease of manufacture recently, an organic photoconductor having a photosensitive layer mainly composed of an organic photoconductive material. Research and development has progressed, and many photoconductors have been proposed.

Such an organic photoreceptor has a structure in which a charge generating material (also referred to as “charge generating material”) and a charge transporting material (also referred to as “charge transporting material”) are dispersed on a support on a binder resin. Single layer structure for forming a layer type photosensitive layer, a charge generation layer in which a charge generation material is dispersed in a binder resin on a support and a charge transport layer in which a charge transport material is dispersed in a binder resin in this order or reverse order Various configurations such as a laminated structure for forming a laminated laminated photosensitive layer or an inverted two-layer laminated structure have been proposed. Among these, the function-separated type photoconductor in which a laminated type photoconductive layer is formed on a support is widely used because it has excellent electrophotographic characteristics and durability, has a high degree of freedom in material selection, and can design various photoconductor characteristics. It has become.

Various performances such as higher speed, durability, and sensitivity stability are required for the photoreceptor having the configuration proposed or studied in this way. In particular, in response to reversal development type electrophotographic apparatuses such as recent digital copying machines and laser printers, high sensitivity corresponding to high speed as photoconductor characteristics and durability by improving wear resistance and sensitivity stability = Coexistence with long life is required. In addition, higher image reliability and repetitive stability are required for photoreceptors used in laser printers and the like.

However, sufficient performance has not been obtained with any of the configurations of the photoreceptors proposed so far.
That is, by increasing the content of the charge transport material in the charge transport layer, the speed can be increased to some extent. However, since the binder resin is reduced, the wear resistance is deteriorated and the life of the photoreceptor is shortened. On the contrary, if the amount of the binder resin is increased, the wear resistance is improved, but the photoresponsiveness is lowered. If the photosensitive member is used in such a state, it is repeatedly used in a state where the surface potential is not sufficiently attenuated, and the potential change accompanying the increase in the residual potential increases, resulting in an early deterioration of image quality. Inconveniences such as inviting occur.

In addition, the photoreceptor is used repeatedly in the system, and always requires constant and stable electrophotographic characteristics. With respect to such stability and durability, the present situation is that a sufficient product has not been obtained in any configuration.
That is, the potential decreases, the residual potential increases, the sensitivity changes, and the like with repeated use, and the copy quality is lowered and cannot be used. All of these causes of degradation have not been elucidated, but there are several possible causes.

For example, it has been found that oxidative gases such as ozone and nitrogen oxides emitted from a corona (discharge) charger cause significant damage to the photosensitive layer. These oxidizing gases chemically change the material in the photosensitive layer and cause various characteristic changes. For example, a decrease in charging potential, an increase in residual potential, a decrease in resolving power due to a decrease in surface resistance, etc., resulting in image blurring such as white spots and black bands on the output image, resulting in a significant decrease in image quality, The life of the photoconductor is shortened.

In order to improve the sensitivity and wear resistance against such a phenomenon, for example, there are a method using a charge transport material with higher mobility and a method using a charge generation material with higher sensitivity. A combined method has been proposed.
For example, Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 6-202357 (Patent Document 1) discloses a technique in which a charge transport layer having a specific high mobility and a charge generation layer containing a highly sensitive oxotitanyl phthalocyanine as a charge generation material are used in combination. Are listed.

Various improvements have also been made to sensitivity stability, and recently, improvements including control of the surrounding environment have also been proposed.
For example, in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 6-75384 (Patent Document 2), the amount of abrasion of the photosensitive layer is specified, and the ozone concentration around the photosensitive member is set to 5 ppm or more and 50 ppm or less to suppress the sensitivity deterioration under repeated use. The technology to be done is described. This is intended to suppress sensitivity deterioration due to wear of the photosensitive layer by appropriately adjusting the concentration of the ozone atmosphere that has been considered to be a factor that promotes sensitivity deterioration from the past. The reverse method.

As described above, various techniques have been proposed aiming at achieving both high speed and long life of the photoreceptor, but these are still not sufficient. In particular, the stability of sensitivity under repeated use can be stabilized by appropriately controlling the ozone atmosphere around the photoreceptor as described above, but before the life of the photoreceptor is reached when the life of the photoreceptor is increased. In the case of a photoconductor having a high life, it is not practically sufficient to control the concentration of the ozone atmosphere alone.

Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a laminated electrophotographic photosensitive member having high sensitivity and excellent wear resistance, and having little sensitivity deterioration with respect to long-term use, and an electrophotographic apparatus including the same. To do.

As a result of intensive studies to solve the above problems, the present inventors have identified a specific substance as an antioxidant in addition to the charge transport material as the main component of the charge transport layer and the binder resin as the binder. By incorporating a specific amount of the diamine compound with respect to the charge transporting material and setting the binder resin at a specific amount with respect to the charge transporting material, a photoreceptor that can surprisingly solve the above-described problems can be obtained, and The present invention has been completed by finding that it is extremely useful for a reversal development type electrophotographic apparatus.

(I):   Thus, according to the present invention, a laminated photosensitive layer in which a charge generation layer containing a charge generation material and a charge transport layer containing a charge transport material are laminated on a conductive support made of a conductive material is formed. In addition to the charge transport material as a main component and a binder resin as a binder thereof, the charge transport layer has a structural formula (I) as an antioxidant:

The content of the diamine compound with respect to the charge transport material is 0.5 to 10% by weight, and the content of the binder resin with respect to 100 parts by weight of the charge transport material is 120 to 300. There is provided a laminated electrophotographic photoreceptor (also simply referred to as “laminated photoreceptor” or “function-separated photoreceptor”) characterized in that it is part by weight.

Further, according to the present invention, the above-mentioned multilayer electrophotographic photosensitive member, a charging unit for charging the multilayer electrophotographic photosensitive member, and an exposure unit for exposing the charged multilayer electrophotographic photosensitive member to exposure. Developing means for developing the electrostatic latent image formed by exposure with toner, transfer means for transferring the toner image formed by development onto a transfer material, and toner remaining on the multilayer electrophotographic photosensitive member. There is provided a reversal developing type electrophotographic apparatus (also referred to as an “image forming apparatus”) comprising a cleaning means that is removed and collected by blade cleaning.

According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a multi-layer photoreceptor having high sensitivity and excellent wear resistance and little sensitivity deterioration with respect to long-term use, and an electrophotographic apparatus including the same.
That is, the multilayer photoconductor of the present invention contains a specific amount of a specific diamine compound and a binder resin with respect to the charge transport material in the charge transport layer, so that it has excellent ozone resistance and NOx resistance, and low temperature. Even when used in an environment or in a high-speed process, it is possible to obtain a laminated photoreceptor in which those characteristics do not deteriorate and those characteristics do not deteriorate even when exposed to light.
Therefore, according to the present invention, an adverse effect due to the ozone atmosphere can be suppressed even when used for a longer period of time, and a highly sensitive and high life electrophotographic apparatus with little sensitivity deterioration can be provided.
Further, according to the present invention, it is possible to extend the life without using a metal oxide in the development of image formation in an electrophotographic apparatus.

In addition to the charge transport material as a main component and a binder resin as a binder thereof, the charge transport layer is represented by structural formula (I) and / or structural formula (II) as an antioxidant. The content of the diamine compound with respect to the charge transport material is 0.5 to 10% by weight, and the content of the binder resin with respect to 100 parts by weight of the charge transport material is 120 to 300 parts by weight. It is characterized by being.

A laminated photosensitive layer 4 in which the charge transport layer 6 is laminated in this order is formed in this order.
The laminated photosensitive layer 4 may be a reverse laminated type in which the charge generation layer 5 and the charge transport layer 6 are formed in reverse order, but the laminated type is preferable.

[Conductive support 1]
The constituent material of the conductive support is not particularly limited as long as it is a material used in this field.
Specifically, metals and alloy materials such as aluminum, aluminum alloy, copper, brass, zinc, nickel, stainless steel, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, indium, titanium, gold, platinum: polyethylene terephthalate, polyamide, polyester, polyoxymethylene , Polymer material such as polystyrene, hard paper, glass substrate laminated with metal foil, metal material or alloy material deposited, conductive polymer, conductive oxide such as tin oxide, indium oxide Or a layer obtained by evaporating or coating the above layer.

The shape of the conductive support is not limited to a sheet shape as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, and may be a cylindrical shape, a columnar shape, an endless belt shape, or the like.
If necessary, the surface of the conductive support is subjected to irregular reflection treatment such as anodizing film treatment, surface treatment with chemicals, hot water, coloring treatment, and surface roughening within a range that does not affect the image quality. May be given.

The irregular reflection treatment is particularly effective when the multilayer photoreceptor according to the present invention is used in an electrophotographic process using a laser as an exposure light source. That is, in an electrophotographic process using a laser as an exposure light source, the wavelengths of the laser light are uniform, so that the laser light reflected on the surface of the photoconductor and the laser light reflected inside the multilayer photoconductor interfere with each other. The interference fringes due to this interference may appear in the image and cause image defects. Therefore, by performing irregular reflection processing on the surface of the conductive support, it is possible to prevent image defects due to interference of laser light having a uniform wavelength.

Among these, a crystalline oxotitanyl phthalocyanine having a diffraction peak at a Bragg angle (2 ± 0.2 °) of 27.3 ° in the X-ray diffraction spectrum is particularly preferable because of its high sensitivity.

These binder resins can be used alone or in combination of two or more.

Although content with respect to 100 weight part of charge generating materials of binder resin is not specifically limited, Usually, it is about 120-300 weight part.
When the binder resin content is less than 120 parts by weight, the sensitivity characteristics are good, but the charging characteristics, the mechanical strength of the film, the image stability against ozone, NOx, etc. generated in the charging process (halftone whiteout) ), The printing durability is lower than when the binder resin ratio is high, and the wear amount of the photosensitive layer may increase. When the amount exceeds 300 parts by weight, the binder resin ratio is increased. When the single-layer type photosensitive layer is formed by the dip coating method, although the mechanical strength is good, the viscosity of the coating solution increases, so that the coating speed is decreased and the productivity may be remarkably deteriorated. . Further, if the amount of the solvent in the coating solution is increased in order to suppress an increase in the viscosity of the coating solution, a brushing phenomenon may occur and white turbidity may occur in the formed charge transport layer.

The preliminary pulverization can be performed using, for example, a general pulverizer such as a ball mill, a sand mill, an attritor, a vibration mill, or an ultrasonic disperser.
The dissolution or dispersion of the constituent materials in the resin solution can be performed using, for example, a general disperser such as a paint shaker, a ball mill, or a sand mill. At this time, it is preferable to appropriately set the dispersion condition so that impurities are generated from the container and the members constituting the disperser due to wear and the like and are not mixed into the coating liquid.

The application method of the charge generation layer forming coating solution is a baker applicator method, a bar coater method, a casting method, a spin coating method, a roll method, a blade method or the like in the case of a sheet, and a spray method or a vertical ring method in the case of a drum. And a dip coating method.
The dip coating method is a method of forming a layer on the conductive support 1 by immersing the conductive support 1 in a coating tank filled with a coating solution and then pulling it up at a constant speed or a speed that changes sequentially. . Since this method is relatively simple and excellent in terms of productivity and cost, it is widely used for manufacturing a photoreceptor. In addition, you may provide the coating liquid dispersion | distribution apparatus represented by the ultrasonic generator in the apparatus used for the dip coating method in order to stabilize the dispersibility of a coating liquid.

The thickness of the charge generation layer is not particularly limited, but is preferably 0.05 to 5 μm, particularly preferably 0.1 to 1 μm. This is because if the film thickness of the charge generation layer is less than 0.05 μm, the efficiency of light absorption may be reduced and the sensitivity may decrease. Conversely, if the film thickness of the charge generation layer exceeds 5 μm, In this case, the charge transport in this process becomes a rate-determining step in the process of erasing the charge on the surface of the photoreceptor, and the sensitivity may be lowered.

When the content of the binder resin is within the above range, the excellent effect of the present invention can be obtained. When the content of the binder resin is less than 120 parts by weight, the mechanical strength of the photoreceptor may be insufficient, and when it exceeds 300 parts by weight, the sensitivity of the entire photoreceptor may be insufficient.

If the thickness of the charge transport layer is less than 5 μm, the charge holding ability on the surface of the photoreceptor may be lowered. Conversely, if the thickness of the charge transport layer exceeds 50 μm, the resolution of the photoreceptor may be lowered.

[Undercoat layer (also referred to as “intermediate layer”) 7]
The laminated photoreceptor of the present invention preferably has an undercoat layer 7 between the conductive support 1 and the laminated photosensitive layer 4.
The undercoat layer has a function of preventing charge injection from the conductive support to the laminated photosensitive layer. That is, a decrease in chargeability of the laminated photosensitive layer is suppressed, a decrease in surface charge other than a portion to be erased by exposure is suppressed, and occurrence of image defects such as fog is prevented. In particular, during image formation by the reversal development process, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of image fogging called black spots in which minute black dots made of toner are formed on a white background portion.
The undercoat layer 7 that covers the surface of the conductive support 1 with the undercoat layer 7 reduces the degree of unevenness that is a defect on the surface of the conductive support 1 and makes the surface uniform. 4 can be improved, and the adhesion between the conductive support 1 and the laminated photosensitive layer 4 can be improved.

For the undercoat layer 7, for example, a resin material is dissolved in an appropriate solvent to prepare a coating solution for forming an undercoat layer, this coating solution is applied to the surface of the conductive support 1, and the organic solvent is removed by drying. Can be formed.

Examples of the resin material include natural polymer materials such as casein, gelatin, polyvinyl alcohol, and ethyl cellulose in addition to the same binder resin as that contained in the charge generation layer, and one or more of these materials are used. it can. Among these resins, polyamide resins are preferable, and alcohol-soluble nylon resins are particularly preferable.
Examples of alcohol-soluble nylon resins include copolymerized nylons obtained by copolymerizing 6-nylon, 6,6-nylon, 6,10-nylon, 11-nylon, 12-nylon, and the like; N-alkoxymethyl-modified nylon and N- Examples thereof include a resin obtained by chemically modifying nylon such as alkoxyethyl-modified nylon.

Examples of the solvent for dissolving or dispersing the resin material include water, alcohols such as methanol, ethanol and butanol, glymes such as methyl carbitol and butyl carbitol, and mixed solvents in which two or more of these solvents are mixed. Can be mentioned.
Other processes and conditions are in accordance with the formation of the charge generation layer.

The undercoat layer forming coating solution may contain metal oxide particles.
The metal oxide particles can easily adjust the volume resistance value of the undercoat layer, can further suppress the injection of charges into the laminated photosensitive layer, and can maintain the electrical characteristics of the photoreceptor in various environments.
Examples of the metal oxide particles include titanium oxide, aluminum oxide, aluminum hydroxide, and tin oxide.
When the total content of the resin material and metal oxide particles in the coating liquid for forming the undercoat layer is C and the content of the solvent is D, the weight ratio (C / D) of both is 1/99 to 40 / 60 is preferable, and 2/98 to 30/70 is particularly preferable.
The weight ratio (E / F) of the resin material content (E) and the metal oxide particle content (F) is preferably 1/99 to 90/10, and preferably 5/95 to 70/30. Particularly preferred.

Although the film thickness of an undercoat layer is not specifically limited, 0.01-20 micrometers is preferable and 0.1-10 micrometers is especially preferable. If the thickness of the undercoat layer is less than 0.01 μm, the undercoat layer does not substantially function, and there is a possibility that a uniform surface cannot be obtained by covering the defects of the conductive support 11. If the film thickness exceeds 20 μm, it is difficult to form a uniform undercoat layer and the sensitivity of the photoreceptor may be lowered.
In addition, when the constituent material of the electroconductive support body 1 is aluminum, the layer (alumite layer) containing an alumite can be formed and it can be set as an undercoat layer.

[Surface protective layer (not shown)]
The surface protective layer has a function of improving the durability of the photoconductor by protecting the surface of the photoconductive layer from mechanical stress, and is composed of a resin or the like. In order to improve the responsiveness of the photoconductor, a charge transport material is used. May be included.
As the resin, one or more of the same binder resins as those contained in the charge generation layer 5 can be used.
As the charge transport material, one or more of the same charge transport materials as those contained in the charge transport layer 6 can be used.

The surface protective layer is prepared by, for example, dissolving or dispersing a charge transport material and a binder resin in an appropriate organic solvent to prepare a coating solution for forming a surface protective layer. It can be formed by applying to the surface and removing the organic solvent by drying. As the organic solvent used here, the same organic solvent used for forming the photosensitive layer can be used.
Other processes and conditions are in accordance with the formation of the charge generation layer.
As the organic solvent, one or more of the same solvents as those used for preparing the coating solution for forming the charge generation layer can be used.

Although the film thickness of a surface protective layer is not specifically limited, 0.1-10 micrometers is preferable and 1-8 micrometers is especially preferable.
When the photoconductor is mounted and used in an image forming apparatus, ozone and nitrogen oxides generated from a corona discharger adhere to the photoconductor surface, and an image flows in the direction of the image forming surface of the transfer material. In other words, so-called image flow may occur. In order to prevent this image flow, the photosensitive layer is configured to be worn at a speed equal to or higher than a certain speed. For this reason, when considering long-term repeated use, the film thickness of the surface protective layer is preferably 0.1 μm or more. If the thickness of the surface protective layer is less than 0.1 μm, the surface protective layer may disappear in a short period of time and the life of the photoreceptor may be shortened. On the other hand, if the film thickness of the surface protective layer exceeds 10 μm, there is a risk that the residual potential increases due to repeated use and the resolution decreases such as a decrease in fine dot reproducibility.

The multilayer photoconductor of the present invention suppresses the occurrence of sensitivity deterioration even in a long-term repeated environment by containing the diamine compound represented by the structural formula (I) or the structural formula (II) in the charge transport layer. It is thought that the sensitivity stability is improved. So far, ozone molecules generated by the Carlson process have been thought to cause a decrease in the charging ability of the photoconductor and an increase in the residual potential, but an improvement in sensitivity stability in an ozone atmosphere has also been reported. .
From this, ozone molecules have both an effect of improving sensitivity stability and an effect of promoting sensitivity deterioration, and it is considered that these actions are always competing in an ozone atmosphere.

In the present invention, it seems that the former action exceeds the latter in the specified concentration range of the diamine compound. However, the latter effect is thought to gradually accumulate even in the concentration range, and the photoreceptor that can be used for a longer period of time is considered to deteriorate before reaching the end of its life. It is done. The diamine compounds represented by the structural formula (I) and the structural formula (II) of the present invention are considered to suppress the occurrence of sensitivity deterioration even when used for a long period of time by preventing the accumulation of deterioration.

An exposure unit that exposes the photosensitive member; a developing unit that develops the electrostatic latent image formed by the exposure with toner; a transfer unit that transfers the toner image formed by the development onto a transfer material; And a cleaning means for removing and collecting toner remaining on the electrophotographic photosensitive member by blade cleaning.

The electrophotographic apparatus of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings, but is not limited to the following description.
FIG. 3 is a schematic side view showing the configuration of the electrophotographic apparatus of the present invention.

The multilayer photoreceptor 11 is rotatably supported by an apparatus main body (not shown) and is rotationally driven by a driving means (not shown). For example, the driving unit includes a motor as a power source, and transmits the power from the motor to a support body constituting the core of the multilayer photoconductor 11 via a gear (not shown), thereby causing the multilayer photoconductor 11 to be in a predetermined state.
The charging unit 12 is a charging unit that charges the surface of the multilayer photoreceptor 11 to a predetermined potential, and is a non-contact charging method such as a corona charger. As an example of the charging means, there is a contact charging method such as a charging roller in addition to the non-contact charging method, but the contact charging method emits less oxidizing gas than the non-contact charging method, but the stacked type Since it is in direct contact with the photoconductor 11, the photoconductor surface is easily worn or scratched by rubbing, resulting in poor mechanical durability.
The non-contact charging method is not directly in contact with the multilayer photoconductor 11, and therefore is not easily worn or scratched on the surface of the photoconductor by rubbing, has excellent mechanical durability, and can extend the life of the photoconductor. is there.

The exposure unit 13 includes a semiconductor laser or the like as a light source, for example, and exposes the charged surface of the laminated photosensitive member 11 with light such as a laser beam output according to image information from the light source, thereby producing a laminated photosensitive material. An electrostatic latent image is formed on the surface of the body 11.

The developing unit 14 is a developing unit that develops the electrostatic latent image formed on the surface of the multilayer photoreceptor 11 with a developer to form a visible toner image, and faces the multilayer photoreceptor 11. The transfer means (transfer device) 15 is a transfer means for transferring the toner image formed on the surface of the multilayer photoconductor 11 from the surface of the multilayer photoconductor 11 onto the recording paper 17 as a transfer material. The transfer unit 15 includes a charging unit such as a corona charger, and is a non-contact type transfer unit that transfers a toner image onto the recording paper 17 by applying a charge having a polarity opposite to that of the toner to the recording paper 17.

The cleaning unit 16 is a cleaning unit that cleans the surface of the multilayer photoconductor 11 after the toner image is transferred. In addition, a fixing device which is a fixing unit for fixing the transferred toner image is provided in a direction in which the recording paper 17 is conveyed after passing between the multilayer photoreceptor 11 and the transfer device 15. The fixing device includes a heating roller having a heating unit (not shown) and a pressure roller that is provided facing the heating roller and is pressed by the heating roller to form a contact portion.

In a machine (reversal development type electrophotographic apparatus) in which the multilayer photoreceptor of the present invention is used, the organic photoreceptor has an abrasion amount of 0.1 to 1.0 μm at 100 thousand revolutions. An electrophotographic apparatus having a cleaning means by blade cleaning is preferable.
In addition to setting the weight ratio between the charge transport material and the binder resin and selecting the binder resin, the amount of wear of the multilayer photosensitive layer is controlled by the pressure contact in each process of the photoreceptor, such as development, transfer, and cleaning of residual toner. It can be done by adjusting.
When the wear amount of the laminated photosensitive layer exceeds 1.0 μm per 100,000 revolutions, the film loss when the laminated photoreceptor is used as a high life drum is large, and the sensitivity is lowered before reaching the life. There is.

From the results of Examples 1 to 6, a specific amount of the two types of polycarbonate resins (binder resins) with respect to the charge transporting material and a specific amount with respect to the diamine compound represented by the structural formulas (I) and (II) and the charge transporting material It can be seen that the multilayer photoreceptor having the charge transport layer containing) is excellent in initial sensitivity and repeatability.
Further, from the results of Examples 1 to 3, when the ratio A / B between the charge transport material (A) and the binder resin (B) is 10/12 to 10/30, particularly in the photosensitivity characteristics and repeated use. It turns out that it is excellent in characteristic stability and mechanical durability.
From the results of Comparative Example 1, it can be seen that the multilayer photoreceptor not containing the diamine compound represented by the structural formulas (I) and (II) has a problem in ozone resistance.
From the results of Comparative Example 8, it can be seen that the single-layer type photoreceptor is inferior in sensitivity characteristics and weak in ozone resistance as compared to the laminated photoreceptor of Example 1 and the like.
