Description
The present invention relates to a cylinder block and a cylinder block assembly in which friction loss generated by sliding of a cylinder included in the cylinder block and a piston ring included in the piston during operation of the engine is reduced.
A cylinder block of an engine is a metal block having a plurality of cylinders, and is a component used in the engine to which a cylinder head, a crank cap, and the like are assembled when assembled to the engine.
Further, the cylinder provided in the cylinder block refers to the inner surface of the cylinder provided in the cylinder block, and if the engine is a four-cylinder engine, the cylinder block is provided with four cylinders.
The metal cylinder constituting the outside of the cylinder is referred to as a cylinder outer cylinder in this specification. If the cylinder outer cylinder is an in-line four-cylinder engine, the four cylinder outer cylinders are arranged close to each other.
The engine cylinder block needs to be fastened to the cylinder head with a strong force.
This is because high sealing performance is required between the cylinder block and the cylinder head.
The cylinder block of the engine has a plurality of cylinders on which pistons slide. When the engine is in operation, the fuel is exploded in the combustion chamber in the upper part of the cylinder, the piston is driven, and the power is taken out. For this reason, the cylinder is exposed to a high temperature which is close to 2000 ° C., and is exposed to a high pressure because it receives an explosion pressure.
Furthermore, in order to cool the cylinder which becomes high temperature in the cylinder block, a water jacket is provided on the outer side of the cylinder outer cylinder, and coolant is supplied to the water jacket to perform water cooling of the cylinder.
Therefore, airtightness is required for the joint surface between the cylinder block and the cylinder head when assembled as an engine so that gas and coolant do not leak.
Therefore, it is necessary to clamp with a high fastening force so that high pressure gas does not escape and cooling coolant does not leak by sandwiching a gasket between the cylinder block and the cylinder head.
In addition, the cylinders included in the cylinder block are required to have shape accuracy such as roundness.
This is because the cylinder shape accuracy greatly affects the friction loss.
When the engine is running, the piston slides back and forth in the cylinder. At this time, it is said that the friction loss generated around the piston is equivalent to one third of the friction loss generated in the entire engine. If this friction loss can be solved, a dramatically efficient engine can be realized.
A piston ring is fitted on the outer periphery of the piston, and the piston ring is in direct contact with the cylinder. Therefore, the piston contacts the cylinder via the piston ring and slides.
This piston ring has two functions of sealing the high-pressure gas from the combustion chamber and appropriately holding the engine oil supplied from the crankshaft side on the cylinder surface in order to reduce sliding resistance.
For this reason, the piston ring is made of a spring material, and the balance between the sealing performance and the sliding performance between the cylinder and the piston is achieved by the tension of the piston ring.
Therefore, if the shape accuracy of the cylinder and the piston is poor, the tension of the piston ring is increased to improve the sealing performance.
For example, if the cylinder and piston have poor shape accuracy, and there is a gap between the piston and the piston ring that the cylinder has, the high pressure gas will flow from the combustion chamber side to the crankshaft when the engine is operated. Leaks through the gap.
This leakage of high-pressure gas leads to a decrease in the force that transmits the explosive force in the combustion chamber to the piston, resulting in energy loss.
In addition, engine oil supplied from the crankshaft side to reduce sliding resistance is managed so that it is attached to the inner wall of the cylinder to the minimum necessary thickness by the piston ring. If it increases, the amount of engine oil attached increases, and as a result, engine oil leaks to the combustion chamber side.
If engine oil leaks, the amount of engine oil consumption increases, and if a lot of engine oil enters the combustion chamber, the engine oil is mixed into the air-fuel mixture and the combustion efficiency decreases, leading to a reduction in fuel consumption.
Such a shape error between the cylinder and the piston is absorbed by increasing the tension of the piston ring. However, the high tension of the piston ring means that the sliding resistance generated between the cylinder and the piston ring is increased, leading to a reduction in fuel consumption and performance.
In other words, increasing the shape accuracy such as the roundness of the cylinder in the product state and the shape accuracy such as the roundness of the piston can be achieved even if the tension of the piston ring is set low. This leads to a balance between the sealing performance and the sliding performance.
Therefore, by increasing the shape accuracy of the cylinder and the piston, the sliding resistance can be lowered while maintaining the sealing performance, and the fuel efficiency and performance can be improved.
In recent years, there has been a demand for higher engine output, and there is a high demand for improved fuel efficiency in consideration of the environment.
One method of improving the fuel consumption is to reduce the friction loss of the engine, that is, to reduce the sliding resistance between the cylinder and the piston.
As described above, the sliding resistance around the piston accounts for a large proportion of the sliding resistance generated in the entire engine. Therefore, if the reduction of the sliding resistance around the piston is realized, it greatly contributes to the improvement of the engine efficiency.
Therefore, in recent years, the cylinder block cylinders are required to have a shape accuracy of the order of several μm.
However, simply processing the piston and cylinder with high precision does not provide the shape accuracy of the piston and cylinder.
As described above, the cylinder block of the engine is fastened with the cylinder head and the head bolt with a high fastening force. For this reason, the deformation | transformation in the fastening part of a cylinder block is inevitable.
This has also been affected by the switch from an iron engine to an aluminum alloy engine to reduce the weight of the engine.
Aluminum alloy engines are advantageous in improving fuel economy because they can reduce the weight of the engine, but they are inferior in rigidity compared to iron engines, so the cylinder block and cylinder head are fastened with the same force by the head bolts. As a result, the distortion caused by fastening increases.
It is considered that the cylinder distortion generated by tightening with the head bolt is generated by a mechanism as shown in FIG.
FIG. 11 is a schematic cross-sectional view showing a state in which the cylinder block and the cylinder head are assembled.
When the
The engine in a state where the
Accordingly, the per connection part of the
As described above, the cylinder block is deformed by being pulled by the head bolt during assembly. Therefore, no matter how much the cylinder shape accuracy of the cylinder block is increased during processing, the cylinder shape accuracy of the cylinder block during assembly is It does not fit in the order of several μm.
That is, there is a problem in that the shape of the cylinder included in the cylinder block differs between processing and assembly.
Furthermore, when the engine is running, it is necessary to consider the influence of heat because it is exposed to high heat. This is because the sliding resistance becomes more remarkable when the material expands due to high heat and the strain is amplified.
In order to process the cylinder block cylinder with high accuracy, conventionally, a dummy head component is assembled to perform boring or honing.
This dummy head is a type of jig that generates a fastening force equivalent to the state in which the head is assembled. It is fastened to the cylinder block with bolts in the same way as the cylinder head, and is used during processing. is there. By assembling this dummy head, distortion equivalent to the state in which the cylinder head is assembled is generated in the cylinder block, and the cylinder is processed in that state. Shape accuracy such as roundness can be reproduced.
However, machining using such a dummy head requires time and labor for assembling the dummy head, removing it after machining, and managing the dummy head and bolts for assembly. It becomes an obstruction and is not suitable for mass production.

However, the following problems can be considered in the prior art.
(1) The weight of the cylinder block itself increases.
When the
Generally, the cylinder liner is made of gray cast iron or fiber reinforced metal, which is an iron-based metal having higher rigidity than aluminum, and a material having a high carbon content and having a self-lubricating performance is often used. However, since the density is 3 to 4 times that of aluminum, the larger the volume of the
On the other hand, as one of the methods for improving the fuel consumption and performance of automobiles, in addition to the reduction of engine friction loss described above, weight reduction can be achieved.
Of these, the mass of metal, among the parts of automobiles, which have a high weight ratio, is also desired to be lighter. In recent years, the reason for the increase in the number of aluminum alloy engines has been raised.
And in order to reduce the weight of the engine, adjustment of the outer thickness of the engine and the use of a cylinder linerless engine are partly used, and even when a cylinder liner is used, the tendency to reduce the thickness as much as possible It is in.
In addition, downsizing of the engine is one of the methods that leads to weight reduction.
However, if the
That is, the method of
(2) There is a manufacturing problem when making a water jacket deeply.
Therefore, from the viewpoint of weight reduction, the present inventor considered that the position where the distortion occurs is shifted as one of means for suppressing the influence of the distortion on the piston sliding, corresponding to the cylinder linerless engine. .
As described above with reference to FIG. 11, the largest distortion occurs at the connection between the
The problem with the occurrence of this distortion is an increase in piston friction loss as described above.
In other words, this distortion occurs in the range in which the piston slides on the cylinder. If it is difficult to remove this distortion, the position where the distortion occurs is shifted and the piston slides. It would be good to keep away from the range of motion.
The piston sliding range is a range in which a piston ring provided in the piston contacts the cylinder, and a portion where the piston ring contacts the cylinder while moving from the top dead center to the bottom dead center.
It is sufficient that the strain generating portion does not overlap the sliding range of the piston.
In general, the top dead center of the piston is such that the upper deck surface of the cylinder block and the head surface of the piston are the same or slightly below. Accordingly, the connecting portion between the
However, the problem here is a manufacturing problem.
The cylinder block is made by casting. During casting, the upper mold convex portion protrudes toward the cavity forming the engine block in order to form a water jacket.
In order to shift the connecting portion between the
Usually, a die used in casting requires a draft angle. This gradient is necessary when the workpiece is taken out from the mold, and is naturally necessary when designing the upper mold convex portion. Since it is necessary to provide this draft in the upper mold convex portion, the convex portion becomes thinner toward the tip. When the mold is less than a certain thickness, problems such as deformation are likely to occur.
In recent years, cylinder blocks are often formed by die casting, and a high casting pressure is applied to the mold. Therefore, if the upper mold convex portion is made too long, the convex portion becomes thinner toward the tip, and the convex portion is easily deformed by casting pressure.
At the time of die casting, since the molten metal flows into the cavity at a high casting pressure at a high speed, a pressure difference between a portion where the molten metal does not rotate and a portion where the molten metal rotates can cause deformation.
Due to this deformation, the accuracy required for the product cannot be obtained after molding, and the mold cannot be removed, resulting in a product defect.
Even if the deformation does not affect the product, the mold is used for repeated casting, which causes the life of the mold to be shortened and increases the cost of the mold.
By the way, the size of the opening of the upper deck surface is determined by the cylinder block strength and sealing performance and the size of the engine itself. The head
Accordingly, the length of the upper mold convex portion is inevitably determined by the opening of the upper deck surface, and as a result, the joint between the
That is, the lower limit of the joint between the
Thus, in the prior art, (1) if a thick portion is provided in the cylinder liner as in
Accordingly, the present invention has been made to solve such problems, and provides a cylinder block and a cylinder block assembly in which the distortion of the cylinder block assembled in the engine as a product does not prevent the piston from sliding. The purpose is to do.
In order to achieve the above object, a cylinder block and a cylinder block assembly according to the present invention have the following characteristics.
(1) A cylinder provided with a piston ring for sliding a hollow part, an outer wall part provided outside the cylindrical part to form a water jacket, and a head bolt formed on the outer wall part In the engine cylinder block having a head bolt fastening portion, a seat surface having a step from the upper deck surface is provided inside the outer wall portion, and the head bolt fastening portion is provided on the seat surface. The position of the bottom of the water jacket in the periphery is closer to the crankshaft than the position of the piston ring when the piston reaches bottom dead center when the engine is operating.
The “piston ring” here is a general term for a compression ring and an oil ring provided in the piston, and the compression ring serves to keep the combustion chamber airtight and to release the heat received by the piston to the cylinder wall. The oil ring has the role of preventing the excess oil from entering the combustion chamber at the same time as forming the minimum required oil film on the cylinder wall.
Normally, three piston rings are provided at the upper part of the cylinder head, the upper two are provided with a compression ring, and the oil ring is provided at the bottom. "Piston ring" here refers to all three.
It is to be noted that these three piston rings cause a problem with the sliding resistance of the piston.
The position of the piston ring at the top of the top dead center of the piston and the piston ring at the bottom of the bottom dead center of the piston is the sliding range of the piston. When the distortion comes below the position, the distortion does not affect the piston ring.
Also, the number of these piston rings and the combination of the compression ring and the oil ring vary depending on the design concept of the engine. For example, some engines have one compression ring and two oil rings, and there are cases where an oil ring is not used as in a two-cycle engine.
Further, the “cylindrical portion” here is a cylinder outer cylinder provided in the cylinder block, and is a portion including a surface in contact with the water jacket. Usually, in the case of four cylinders, since four cylinders are provided adjacent to each other, strictly speaking, the cylindrical shape is not a cylindrical shape, but the cylindrical shape is an adjacent shape. .
The “outer wall portion” here is an outer wall provided in the cylinder block, and a water jacket is formed by the inner wall and the cylindrical portion. The water jacket is supplied with cooling water while the engine is in use to cool the cylinder.
The “head bolt fastening portion” referred to here is a female screw portion for fastening the head bolt.
Further, here, the “seat surface” is a portion provided on the inner side of the outer wall portion of the cylinder block and having a step on the crankshaft side from the upper deck surface within the water jacket. The surface is subjected to internal thread machining that becomes a “head bolt fastening portion”.
(2) In the cylinder block assembly in which the cylinder block and the cylinder head described in (1) are assembled, the cylinder block is set in a space from the seat surface inside the water jacket to the upper deck surface of the cylinder block. A seal member having a head bolt passage hole through which the head bolt penetrates, and the seal member is pressed by a surface contacting the seat surface and the upper deck surface of the cylinder head, so that the inside of the water jacket is The flowing cooling water is sealed so as not to enter the head bolt passage hole.
The "seal member" here is a member made of resin, rubber, etc., and is pressed against the lower surface of the cylinder head and the periphery of the head bolt fastening portion of the stepped portion in a state where the cylinder head is assembled to the cylinder block. It is a member that exhibits sealing properties. The shape may be cylindrical or may be a shape along the inner surface of the outer wall portion and may have a plurality of head bolt passage holes.
It is not a material such as resin or rubber, but a metal member having a strength equal to or lower than the strength of the base material of the cylinder block, and a contact surface with the upper deck surface of the cylinder head, and a seat surface The surface sealing method may be used.
With the cylinder block and cylinder block assembly according to the present invention having such characteristics, the following operations and effects can be obtained.
Since the position of the bottom of the water jacket in the periphery is closer to the crankshaft than the position of the piston ring when the piston reaches bottom dead center when the engine is operating, Since the connection part of the outer wall part and the cylindrical part is provided on the lower side, the influence of the distortion generated in that part is not received when the piston slides on the cylinder. An excellent effect of reducing the friction loss.
That is, reduction of friction loss when the piston slides on the cylinder is realized by the following action.
First, the strain generated in the cylinder block, by acts as an upward force F 1 and the downward force F 2 as described above, occurs at the connection portion of the outer wall portion and the cylindrical portion.
It is necessary to set the tension of the piston ring to be strong so that a gap is not generated between the piston ring provided in the piston and the cylinder on the inner surface of the cylindrical portion due to the distortion. However, increasing the tension of the piston ring increases the sliding resistance between the piston ring and the cylinder. Further, when the piston ring passes through the distorted portion, the resistance is further increased.
That is, the strain generated in the connecting portion of the cylindrical portion and the outer wall portion, to be in the piston sliding range h 1, without to exacerbate the roundness of the cylinder, it can be set to weaken the tension of the piston ring Therefore, the friction loss can be reduced.
Therefore, by providing a head bolt fastening portion on the seat surface inside the water jacket and on the inner side of the outer wall portion and lower than the upper deck surface, the opening on the upper deck surface of the cylinder block is provided. I was able to take it widely.
By doing this, the convex portion forming the upper water jacket used for casting described above is extended so that the bottom portion of the water jacket can be formed deeply, and even if a draft angle is provided, the necessary thickness up to the tip of the convex portion is obtained. Can be secured.
In addition, the base of the upper mold convex portion becomes thicker as much as the seating surface is secured, so that the strength of the mold is also increased.
In this way, it is possible to secure the necessary thickness for the upper mold convex part, so that even if the upper mold convex part is extended, it can withstand the casting pressure during die casting, reduce product defects, and the life of the mold. There is no such thing as shortening.
As a result, the water jacket of the cylinder block can be formed deeply, and the connecting portion between the cylindrical portion and the outer wall portion can be brought closer to the crankshaft side than the piston sliding range.
As a result, it is possible to minimize the influence of distortion generated at the connecting portion between the cylindrical portion and the outer wall portion on sliding between the piston and the cylinder, and the tension of the piston ring can be set low, thereby reducing the friction loss. I can do it.
Further, since the friction loss can be reduced by providing the water jacket of the cylinder block deeply, there is no factor that obstructs the weight reduction such as the necessity of increasing the cylinder block, and it contributes to the weight reduction of the engine.
(2) In the cylinder block assembly in which the cylinder block and the cylinder head described in (1) are assembled, the cylinder block is set in a space from the seat surface inside the water jacket to the upper deck surface of the cylinder block. A seal member having a head bolt passage hole through which the head bolt penetrates, and the seal member is pressed by a surface contacting the seat surface and the upper deck surface of the cylinder head, so that the inside of the water jacket is Since the flowing cooling water is sealed so as not to enter the head bolt passage hole, there is an excellent effect that the cooling water flowing in the water jacket does not enter the head bolt fastening portion.
That is, the cooling water flowing through the water jacket does not enter the head bolt fastening portion by the following action.
When the cylinder head and the cylinder block are assembled with the head bolt, a seal member having a head bolt passage hole is provided between the seat surface and the surface contacting the upper deck surface of the cylinder head, and a head bolt fastening portion The head bolt passage hole is set at a substantially concentric position, pressed by the surface that contacts the seating surface and the upper deck surface, and the sealing member is elastically deformed to conform to both surfaces, so that the cooling water is tightened with the head bolt It will not get into the department.
The cooling water flowing through the water jacket is often antifreeze containing anti-freezing agents and anti-corrosion agents to prevent corrosion of metal parts in the cooling system. In some cases, an antifreeze containing rust and anticorrosives does not completely prevent corrosion.
When such cooling water enters a hole such as a head bolt fastening portion, the coolant stays in that portion, and the head bolt may be corroded.
In addition, when the head bolt passes through the water jacket when the cylinder block and the cylinder head are assembled, if the sealing portion is not provided, the pump from the hole for passing the head bolt provided on the cylinder head side The cooling water sent in by the air blows out. Such a problem can also be solved by using a seal member.

When the molten metal is poured in the die casting process, the cavity is filled, the temperature is deprived by touching the mold, and gradually solidifies to form the
After that, the mold is released. At this time, even if the mold release agent is firmly applied to the mold surface, the product does not come out of the mold well unless a gradient called draft is applied to the mold surface. There is a problem.

On the other hand, in the case of die casting, since a molten metal is injected into the cavity by applying a high casting pressure, each part of the mold needs to have a thickness that can withstand the casting pressure.
Therefore, the limit thickness of the upper mold convex portion determines the depth of the

Since the present embodiment shows the configuration as described above, the following effects can be obtained.
FIG. 7 shows the result of creating a model from FIG. 11 and analyzing the distortion, and FIG. 8 is a CC cross-sectional view of FIG. Further, FIG. 9 shows a result of creating a model from FIG. 1 and analyzing the distortion, and FIG. 10 shows a CC cross-sectional view of FIG.
First, FIG. 7 will be described. The vertical axis indicates the distance from the

FIG. 8 shows a CC cross section, which is a cross sectional view of a portion of the piston sliding range h 1 in FIG. 7, and the position of the
From the result of the analysis, it can be seen that the distortion increases corresponding to the position where the
Next, FIG. 9, which is a result of the distortion analysis performed by modeling FIG. 1 of the present embodiment, will be described. As in FIG. 7, the vertical axis indicates the distance from the
Thus, comparing FIG. 7 with FIG. 9, it can be seen that the position of distortion has moved upward in FIG. For DD cross is a cross-sectional view of the position of the piston sliding range h 1 is shown in FIG. 10, the distortion amount as compared with FIG. 8 is smaller.
And the CC cross section of FIG. 9 became a shape substantially the same as FIG.
This corresponds to the fact that the connecting portion between the
In the DD cross section shown in FIG. 10, the strain is suppressed to about several μm, and as shown in FIG. 9, the distortion is the largest in the CC cross section, and below the DD cross section, that is, in the piston sliding range h 1 , It turns out that there is almost no influence. This is because, as shown in FIG. 4, is effective by only the height h 3
Accordingly, the strain appearing in the piston sliding range h 1 can be suppressed to about several [mu] m, even less influence on the sliding of the

According to the cylinder block and the cylinder block assembly of the present invention described above, the following excellent actions and effects can be obtained.
(1) A cylinder

In this way, even if the convex portion forming the
In addition, the base of the upper mold convex portion becomes thicker as much as the seating surface is secured, so that the strength of the mold is also increased.
In this way, the thickness required for the upper mold convex part can be secured, so that even if the upper mold convex part is extended, it can withstand the casting pressure during die casting, and the life of the mold can be shortened. Absent.
