Claims (7)
- マトリクス状に配置された複数の画素を備え、
前記画素は少なくとも、第1のトランジスタと、第2のトランジスタと、画像信号メモリと、電気光学媒体と、共通電極とを備え、
前記画素は少なくとも信号線と走査線と基準電圧線とに接続され、
前記第1のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの一方は前記信号線に接続され、
前記第1のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの他方は第2のトランジスタのゲートに接続され、
前記第1のトランジスタのゲートは前記走査線に接続され、
前記第2のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの一方は前記電気光学媒体に接続され、
前記第2のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの他方は前記基準電圧線に接続され、
前記画像信号メモリは前記第2のトランジスタのゲートと前記基準電圧線に接続され、
前記電気光学媒体は前記第2のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの一方と前記共通電極とに接続されており、
前記基準電圧線を前記走査線に同期して走査することを特徴とする表示装置の駆動方法において、
前記画像信号メモリをリフレッシュする走査期間と、前記画像信号メモリに書き込まれた画像信号を保持する画像信号保持期間とを備え、
前記走査期間において、前記走査線の走査に同期して前記基準電圧線の電位を一定期間共通電位にし、それ以外の期間においては、前記基準電圧線の駆動波形をある周波数の矩形波とすると共に、
前記走査線に同期して前記基準電圧線の電位を共通電位にし、
前記電気光学媒体の両端の電位差を概ね0Vとする画素においては、
前記基準電圧線が共通電位である間の一定期間、前記信号線の電位をハイレベルとし、
前記電気光学媒体の両端の電位差を前記基準電圧線の正極性電位又は負極性電位と共通電極との間の電位差とする画素においては、
前記基準電圧線が共通電位である間は前記信号線の電位をローレベルとし、
前記走査線の電位がハイレベルからローレベルに切り替わる直前で前記信号線の電位をハイレベルからローレベルにすることを特徴とする表示装置の駆動方法。 - 請求項1に記載の表示装置の駆動方法において、
前記走査線を走査する走査期間と、前記走査線の走査を休止して画像表示状態を保持する画像保持期間とが設けられ、
前記画像保持期間において、前記信号線の電位を前記第2のトランジスタをオフ状態とする電位にしたことを特徴とする表示装置の駆動方法。 - マトリクス状に配置された複数の画素を備え、
前記画素は少なくとも、第1のトランジスタと、第2のトランジスタと、画像信号メモリと、電気光学媒体と、共通電極とを備え、
前記画素は少なくとも信号線と走査線と基準電圧線とに接続され、
前記第1のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの一方は前記信号線に接続され、
前記第1のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの他方は第2のトランジスタのゲートに接続され、
前記第1のトランジスタのゲートは前記走査線に接続され、
前記第2のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの一方は前記電気光学媒体に接続され、
前記第2のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの他方は前記基準電圧線に接続され、
前記画像信号メモリは前記第2のトランジスタのゲートと前記基準電圧線に接続され、
前記電気光学媒体は前記第2のトランジスタのドレインないしソースの一方と前記共通電極とに接続されており、
前記基準電圧線を前記走査線に同期して走査することを特徴とする表示装置の駆動方法において、
前記画像信号メモリをリフレッシュする走査期間と、前記画像信号メモリに書き込まれた画像信号を保持する画像信号保持期間とを備え、
前記走査期間において、前記走査線の走査に同期して前記基準電圧線の電位を一定期間共通電位にし、それ以外の期間においては、前記基準電圧線の駆動波形をある周波数の矩形波とすると共に、
前記走査線に同期して前記基準電圧線の電位を共通電位にし、
前記電気光学媒体の両端の電位差を概ね0Vとする画素においては、前記基準電圧線が共通電位である間の一定期間、前記信号線の電位をハイレベルとし、
前記電気光学媒体の両端の電位差を前記基準電圧線の正極性電位又は負極性電位と共通電極との間の電位差とする画素においては、
前記基準電圧線が共通電位である間において前記信号線の電位をローレベルとし、前記走査線の電位がハイレベルからローレベルに切り替わる直前で前記信号線の電位をローレベルからハイレベルにし、
前記走査線の電位がハイレベルからローレベルに切り替わる直後で前記信号線の電位をハイレベルからローレベルにすることを特徴とする表示装置の駆動方法。 - 請求項3に記載の表示装置において、
前記画像信号メモリは少なくとも2層以上の配線層と1層以上の絶縁層とから形成されていることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項3に記載の表示装置において、
前記電気光学媒体が絶縁性溶媒と前記絶縁性溶媒中に分散された帯電粒子とからなることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項3に記載の表示装置において、
前記各画素は2種類の大きさの副画素から形成されており、
前記副画素の大きさの比がm2+1:1(mは自然数)であることを特徴とする表示装置。 - 請求項4に記載の表示装置において、
前記画像信号メモリは前記基準電圧線に接続された透明電極層と前記第1のトランジスタのソース電極との間に絶縁層を介して挟持する構成で、かつ、前記透明電極層は表示領域外において基板外部との電気的接続のための端子を形成する電極層を兼ねることを特徴とする表示装置の駆動方法。
