Description
【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a response characteristic evaluation pattern display method for a liquid crystal display panel that generates and displays an evaluation pattern for evaluating an optical response characteristic of a liquid crystal display panel, and a response characteristic evaluation pattern generation apparatus thereof.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, display devices have also been required to be lighter and thinner due to lighter and thinner personal computers and television receivers. In accordance with such demands, liquid crystal display devices (LCDs) instead of cathode ray tubes (CRTs) have been demanded. ) Flat panel displays have been developed.
[0003]
The LCD applies an electric field to a liquid crystal layer having an anisotropic dielectric constant injected between two substrates, and adjusts the amount of light transmitted through the substrate by adjusting the strength of the electric field. A display device that obtains an image signal. Such LCDs are representative of portable and simple flat panel displays. Among these, TFT LCDs using thin film transistors (TFTs) as switching elements are mainly used.
[0004]
Recently, since the LCD is widely used not only as a display device of a computer but also as a display device of a television receiver, the necessity of implementing a moving image has increased. However, the conventional LCD has a drawback that it is difficult to implement a moving image because of a slow response speed.
[0005]
In order to improve such a response speed problem of the liquid crystal, a predetermined gradation voltage for the input image signal of the current frame is determined according to the combination of the input image signal of the previous frame and the input image signal of the current frame. There is known a liquid crystal driving method for supplying a high (overshooted) driving voltage or a lower (undershooted) driving voltage to a liquid crystal display panel. Hereinafter, in this specification, this driving method is defined as overshoot (OS) driving.
[0006]
As disclosed in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 2002-62850 (see Patent Document 1), an OS table is conventionally stored in a table memory (ROM), and overshoot driving is performed based on the OS table. One that compensates for optical response characteristics is known.

[0010]
Further, in Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 6-38247 (Patent Document 2), by adopting a display pattern based on a triangle, the disappearance amount or macroscopicity of the acute angle portion of the triangle is increased as the display pattern driving speed is increased. Since the amount of disappearance of the quadrilateral that forms the target triangle increases, a test pattern signal generator that makes it possible to evaluate response characteristics semi-quantitatively by focusing on this amount of disappearance has been proposed.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2002-62850 discloses an optical response characteristic of a liquid crystal display panel for each gradation transition of an input image signal when setting such an OS table or checking the effect of OS driving ( Response speed) must be measured. In particular, when creating the OS table shown in FIG. 7, it is necessary to measure and confirm the liquid crystal response speed for each combination of gradation transitions from 0 to 255. This measurement takes time, and all combinations of gradation transitions are required. It took a lot of time to measure the response characteristics for.
[0013]
Further, the one described in JP-A-6-38247 evaluates the optical response characteristics of the liquid crystal display panel with respect to the transition between the gradation of the display pattern A and the gradation of the background B. In order to cope with a wide range of gradation transition combinations of the input image signal, the optical response characteristics of the liquid crystal display panel to each gradation transition are measured while switching the combination of the gradation of the display pattern A and the gradation of the background B. There is a problem that it is necessary to evaluate and spends a huge amount of time.
[0014]
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a response characteristic evaluation pattern display method for a liquid crystal display panel and a response characteristic evaluation pattern generation apparatus capable of accurately and quickly evaluating the optical response characteristics of the liquid crystal display panel by simple measurement. Is to provide.
[0015]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention provides a liquid crystal display panel response characteristic evaluation pattern display method for displaying a pattern for evaluating an optical response characteristic of a liquid crystal display panel with respect to a gradation transition of an input image signal. Simultaneously with the display, a movement evaluation pattern having a plurality of different gradation areas is displayed while being moved at a constant speed within a range in which the fixed evaluation pattern is displayed.
[0016]
The present invention is also a method for displaying a response characteristic evaluation pattern of the liquid crystal display panel, wherein the fixed evaluation pattern is displayed simultaneously with displaying the band-like fixed evaluation pattern in which the plurality of gradation regions are adjacent and extend in a certain direction. The movement evaluation pattern composed of the plurality of gradation areas extending in a direction intersecting with the fixed evaluation pattern is displayed while being moved along the direction in which the gradation area of the fixed evaluation pattern extends.
[0017]
The present invention is also a method for displaying a response characteristic evaluation pattern of the liquid crystal display panel, wherein a gradation range of an input image signal is set in a predetermined range in the plurality of gradation areas in the fixed evaluation pattern and the movement evaluation pattern. The representative gradation value data divided by the width is displayed respectively.
[0018]
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a response characteristic evaluation pattern generation device for a liquid crystal display panel that generates a pattern signal for evaluating an optical response characteristic of a liquid crystal display panel with respect to a gradation transition of an input image signal. Fixed evaluation pattern generating means for generating an evaluation pattern, means for generating a movement evaluation pattern having a plurality of different gradation areas, movement means for generating an evaluation pattern, scroll means for moving the movement evaluation pattern in a predetermined direction at a constant speed, and And a superimposing means for superimposing the movement evaluation pattern to be moved at the constant speed on the fixed evaluation pattern.
[0019]
Further, the present invention is the response characteristic evaluation pattern generation device for the liquid crystal display panel, wherein the fixed evaluation pattern generation means uses the band-shaped fixed evaluation pattern in which the plurality of gradation regions extend adjacent to each other in a certain direction. And the scroll means moves the movement evaluation pattern composed of the plurality of gradation areas extending in a direction intersecting the fixed evaluation pattern along a direction in which the gradation area of the fixed evaluation pattern extends. And
[0020]
In addition, the present invention provides the response characteristic evaluation pattern display device for the liquid crystal display panel, wherein a gradation range of an input image signal is set in a predetermined range in the plurality of gradation areas in the fixed evaluation pattern and the movement evaluation pattern. The representative gradation value data divided by the width is displayed respectively.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

Further, the vertical pattern may be fixed display and the horizontal pattern may be moved display, and may be moved from top to bottom or from bottom to top. In short, it is only necessary to be able to evaluate the optical response characteristics of the liquid

As described above, when the vertical pattern composed of the

[0032]
Next, the liquid crystal response characteristics and the actual display state will be described with reference to FIGS.
Here, the transition of the gray level transition from 96 gray levels of the horizontal pattern to the 64 gray levels of the vertical pattern in the display portion on the right side of the 64 gray level vertical pattern is transition A, and the vertical direction in the left display portion of the 64 gray level vertical pattern. The transition of gradation from the 64 gradations of the pattern to the 96 gradations of the horizontal pattern is defined as transition B.
[0033]
As shown in FIG. 4 (a), the transition A and the transition B are different in response time until the desired transmittance is reached. That is, when the input image signal transitions from the previous gradation to the subsequent gradation, the longer the response time, the more the liquid crystal in the display portion does not reach the transmittance for displaying the subsequent gradation, and the tailing This tail part looks like a band. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 4A, when the response time of the transition B is longer than that of the transition A, the tailing width is larger on the left side of the 64-tone vertical pattern than on the right side.
[0034]
FIG. 5B shows an example of actual display. Here, the horizontal pattern (fixed evaluation pattern) shows the gradation region portion from 64 gradations to 160 gradations, and the vertical pattern (movement evaluation pattern) shows the gradation areas from 32 gradations to 96 gradations. The case where it moved to right is assumed. The response time for each gradation transition at this time is shown in FIG. Each tailing phenomenon occurs according to the response time. For example, transition B requires a longer time to reach the target transmittance, that is, response time is longer than transition A. Therefore, tailing corresponding to the moving speed of the movement evaluation pattern occurs for each gradation transition, and it can be seen at a glance to which gradation transition the response speed is slow from the length of the tailing of the movement evaluation pattern. .
