BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus for obtaining an optimum recording power value for a data area of each layer and recording information with the optimum recording power value when information is recorded on the optical disk having a multilayer structure by laser light. The present invention relates to a method for determining an optimum recording power value of an optical disc for obtaining an optimum recording laser power when information is recorded on an optical disc having a multilayer structure.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventionally, a means for measuring the control offset value for each of the groove part and the land part of the optical disc medium having a two-layer structure and storing the measured value of each control offset is provided, and the position where the light spot of the objective lens is irradiated There is an optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus that optimizes a control offset value (see, for example, JP-A-9-231588).
[0003]
In addition, in order to record, reproduce, or erase each recording layer of a multilayer recording medium having a plurality of recording layers with a light beam having an appropriate power, a trial writing operation is performed for each information track at each radial position, and the reproduction is performed. There has been an optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus (for example, see Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 11-3550) that obtains the optimum light beam conditions for recording, erasing or reproducing information on each information track by examining signals.
[0004]
Currently, in the field of optical disks, various types of optical disks capable of recording information (for example, write-once optical disks such as CD-R and DVD-R and rewritable optical disks such as CD-RW and DVD-RAM) are increasing. It is coming.
[0005]
Such optical discs capable of recording information include types of optical discs having different optical disc compositions (for example, dye change optical discs and phase change optical discs).
[0006]
There are also optical discs having different recording layer structures.
For example, the optical disc, which has been a single recording layer until now, has become a multi-layered recording layer to an optical disc having a two-layer structure, and the structure of the optical disc has become more complicated.
[0007]
However, if the recording layer has a two-layer structure, the recording capacity can be expected to increase more than before, which is very useful in an optical disk that is aimed at increasing the capacity.
[0008]
In such an optical disc having a multi-layered recording surface including an optical disc having a two-layer structure, when performing additional recording or rewriting with respect to information recording, various settings at the time of recording performed on a single-layer optical disc can be made with a multilayer structure. You have to do it even with your optical disc.
One of the settings is to obtain and correct the optimum recording power value of the laser output for recording information.
[0009]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, since an optical disc having a multilayer structure has different characteristics on the information recording surface as compared with an optical disc having a single layer structure, the method for obtaining the optimum recording power must use a process different from the conventional method. However, there is a problem that it cannot be realized by the conventional optical disk recording apparatus as described above.
[0010]
Here, the main characteristics of an optical disc having a multilayer structure will be described. In the optical disc having a multilayer structure, the recording layer may be superposed on the uppermost recording surface (the recording surface closer to the disc surface). ) Is kept low.
[0011]
Also, the transmittance is set high in order to allow the laser light to reach the lower layer recording surface. In addition, since the recording marks (pits) are slightly large, the recording mark density for one layer is small.
[0012]
Therefore, when information is recorded on a higher recording surface, the laser power at the time of recording must be adjusted so that a correct recording mark can be formed.
[0013]
The reason why the laser output at the time of recording is corrected to the optimum recording power value is the same as in the case of a single-layer optical disc, and optimum recording power control (OPC: Optimum Power Control) of the laser irradiated when recording information is performed. Otherwise, when information recorded on the optical disk is reproduced after information is recorded, jitter becomes large, and there is a possibility that accurate information is not reproduced.
[0014]
For this reason, when reproducing recorded information, the laser beam must be controlled to the optimum recording power in accordance with the characteristics of the data area in which the information is written in order to perform accurate reproduction while suppressing the jitter as much as possible.
Controlling the light emission power of recording is one of the very effective methods for suppressing the reproduction jitter, so that the optimum recording power value is corrected.
[0015]
The present invention has been made in order to solve the above-described problems. When information is recorded on an optical disk having a multi-layer structure that can be additionally written or rewritten, the laser output during recording is performed on the data area of the layer in which information is written. To adjust the recording power to the optimum recording power value

This optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus is a data area (D1, D2) for recording information on each layer of a recording surface having a multilayer structure, and a test used to determine the optimum recording power value of the laser beam emission power when recording information. When information is recorded on the optical disc 1 provided with write areas (T1, T2) at different positions, the information is recorded in a test write area (T2) in the same layer as the data area (eg, D2) for recording the information. The optimum recording power value is obtained by performing power test writing.

In this way, this optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus has a multi-layer structure, and for each optical disc provided with a trial writing area and a data area in each layer, the trial writing area in the same layer as the data area for recording information is tested. The optimum recording power value can be obtained by writing and recording.
Therefore, a recording mark can be correctly formed on the recording layer for recording information, and the recorded information can be reproduced without error.

Next, claims of this invention in this optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus1Claim by the function of the means described in5An example of processing related to the optimum recording laser power value determination method described in 1 will be described.
[0057]
In this recording process, when trial writing is performed in order to obtain the optimum recording power value in the recording process shown in FIG. 4, trial writing is performed using a new trial writing area in which no trial writing is performed in any layer. Obtain the optimum recording power value.
[0058]
The optimum recording power value determination process in this recording process will be described.
This optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus is a data area (D1, D2) for recording information on each layer of a recording surface having a multilayer structure, and a test used to determine the optimum recording power value of the laser beam emission power when recording information. When information is recorded in a data area (for example, D2) in one of the layers of the optical disc 1 in which the writing areas (T1, T2) are provided at different positions, a test writing area in the same layer as the data area (D2) Among the plurality of small areas (T2a, T2b) in (T2), the position corresponding to the small area (for example, T1b) in the trial writing area (T1) of the other layer that has not yet been trial-written.SmallTrial writing is performed on the area (T2b) to obtain the optimum recording power value.

In this way, this optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus always uses the laser beam in a stepwise manner in a trial writing area of an optical disc having a multi-layer structure to always perform trial writing recording to obtain an optimum recording power value. Since the optimum recording power value is obtained using a new trial writing area in which no trial writing is performed even in the trial writing area of the hierarchy, the optimum recording power value suitable for the condition of the hierarchy is not affected by other layers. Can be corrected.

FIG. 5 is a flowchart showing the processing.
When recording data on the optical disc 1, the optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus detects a data area to be recorded in step (indicated by "S" in the figure) 11 and proceeds to step 12 to determine a data area for recording. A test writing area in the same layer is detected, and the process proceeds to step 13 to determine whether or not test writing is performed in a layer higher than the layer on which test writing is performed (for example, the first layer 20).
[0065]
If trial writing is performed in the above determination, the process proceeds to step 14 to shift to the next new test writing area, and then proceeds to step 16 to perform test writing by changing the recording light emission power (recording power value) stepwise.
[0066]
On the other hand, if test writing is not performed in the above determination, the process proceeds to step 15 and the test writing area is not shifted, and the process proceeds to step 16 where the recording light emission power (recording power value) is changed stepwise to perform test writing.
[0067]
Proceeding to step 17, the recording result of the trial writing is read and compared, and proceeding to step 18, the optimum recording power value is obtained, and proceeding to step 19, the preset optimum recording power value is obtained as the optimum recording power obtained above. The power value is corrected, information is recorded in the data area with the corrected optimum recording power value, and the recording process is terminated.
[0068]
Further, the optimum recording power value determination process in this recording process will be described.
This optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus is a trial used to determine the data area (D1, D2) for recording information on each layer of the recording surface of the multilayer structure and the optimum recording power value of the laser beam emission power when recording information. Similarly, in the small area T2b of the test writing area T2, it is determined whether or not the trial writing has been performed on the small area T1b of the test writing area T1 in the upper layer (first layer 20). If not written, trial writing recording is performed by sequentially changing the laser beam in a small area T2b of the trial writing area T2.

In this way, this optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus, when performing trial writing in the trial writing area of the same layer as the data area for recording information on the optical disk having a multilayer structure, is more than the target trial writing area layer. If trial writing has already been performed in the lower hierarchy, trial writing is performed in the trial writing area as it is, but if trial writing has already been performed in the upper hierarchy, that trial writing area is not used and a new next Test writing is performed in the test writing area.
Therefore, the trial writing area can be used efficiently and the data area can be widened.

Next, claims of this invention in this optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus3Claim by the function of the means described in7The process related to the optimum recording power value determination method described in 1 will be described.

FIG. 6 is a flowchart showing the processing.
When recording the information on the optical disc 1, the optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus detects the data area to be recorded in step (indicated by "S" in the figure) 21 and proceeds to step 22 to be the upper layer of the data area to be recorded (for example, The first layer) detects whether information is recorded in the data area of the hierarchy.
[0080]
Proceeding to step 23, if information is recorded in the data area of the upper layer (first layer), random data (random information based on a preset rule) is recorded in the test writing area of that layer. Then, the process proceeds to step 25 to shift to the test writing area in the same layer as the data area for recording information.

Further, if the process proceeds to step 24 and data (information) is not recorded in the upper layer (first layer),, SuProceeding to Step 25, the process proceeds to the test writing area in the same layer as the data area for recording information.

Thereafter, the process proceeds to step 26, where trial writing is performed by changing the recording light emission power (recording power value) stepwise, the process proceeds to step 27, the recording result of the trial writing is read and compared, and the process proceeds to step 28 for optimum recording. The power value is obtained, the process proceeds to step 29, the preset optimum recording power value is corrected to the obtained optimum recording power value, and information is recorded in the data area with the corrected optimum recording power value. This recording process is terminated.
[0083]
Further, the optimum recording power value determination process in this recording process will be described.
This optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus is a trial used to determine the data area (D1, D2) for recording information on each layer of the recording surface of the multilayer structure and the optimum recording power value of the laser beam emission power when recording information. When information is recorded in a data area (for example, D2) of any layer of the optical disc 1 in which the writing areas (T1, T2) are provided at different positions, a test writing area in the same layer as the data area (D2) Of the plurality of small areas (T2a, T2b) in (T2), a small area (for example, T1a) that has not yet been trial-written in the trial writing area (T1) in a layer higher than the trial writing area (T2). The position corresponding toSmallThe area (T2a) is detected, and information has already been recorded in the recording location (D1a) of the upper data area (D1) corresponding to the recording location (eg, D2a) of the information in the data region (D2). When the random information is recorded in the small area (T1a) of the upper layer test writing area (T1) corresponding to the detected small area (T2a) in the same layer as the data area (D2), Trial writing is performed on the detected small area (T2a) to obtain an optimum recording power value.
[0084]
For example, as shown in FIG. 3, when information is recorded in the small area D2a of the data area D2 of the
[0085]
If information is not recorded in the small area D1a of the data area D1, the optimum recording power value is obtained by performing trial writing in the small area T2a of the trial writing area T2 in the same layer as the small area D2a of the data area D2 in which information is recorded. Ask for.
[0086]
However, if information has already been recorded in the small area D1a of the data area D1, the trial writing should have been originally performed on the small area D2a of the data area D2, but the small area T2a of the trial writing area T2 has been performed. Random data is recorded in the small area T1a of the trial writing area T1 in the upper layer (first layer 20) of the area before trial writing.
[0087]
This is because, by recording random data in the small area T1a of the test writing area T1, the same conditions as the small area D1a of the data area D1 with respect to the small area D2a of the data area D2 are tested with the small area T2a of the test writing area T2. This is because it is created in the small area T1a of the writing area T1.
[0088]
Then, in a state where random data is recorded in the small area T1a of the trial writing area T1, trial writing recording is performed by sequentially changing the laser beam to the small area T2a of the trial writing area T2 to obtain an optimum recording power value. Ask.
[0089]
In this way, this optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus is capable of obtaining an optimum recording power value if data has already been recorded in a data area of a higher hierarchy with respect to a data area for recording information on an optical disc having a multilayer structure. Even in the trial writing area for obtaining the optimum recording power, the data is recorded once in the same trial writing area as that in which the data is already recorded, and then the trial writing is performed in the trial writing area of the hierarchy for obtaining the optimum recording power value. Find the power value.
[0090]
Therefore, it is possible to obtain the optimum recording power value in consideration of not only the optimum recording power value for the layer for recording information but also the situation of other layers considered to be involved in the layer.
[0091]
Next, another example of the optical disc 1 having a two-layer recording surface used in the optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus will be described.
FIG. 7 is an explanatory diagram showing another example of the configuration of the data area and the test writing area of the optical disc 1 having a two-layer recording surface.
[0092]
This optical disc 1 has a two-layer structure like the optical disc shown in FIG. 2, but only on one recording surface (first layer 20) having a two-layer structure as shown in FIG. A data area D1 for recording information and a test writing area T1 used for determining the light emission power of the laser beam at the time of recording information are provided at different positions.
On the other recording surface (second layer 21), only a data area D2 where information is recorded exists.
[0093]
Next, processing for obtaining the optimum value of the recording laser power when recording information on the optical disc 1 having the two-layer structure shown in FIG. 7 in this optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus will be described.
[0094]
FIG. 8 shows the present invention in the optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus.Second reference technologyIt is a flowchart which shows a process.
[0095]
When recording information on the optical disc 1, the optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus detects a data area to be recorded in step (indicated by “S” in the figure) 31 and proceeds to step 32 to set a test writing area in the first layer. Then, the process proceeds to step 33, and trial writing is performed by changing the recording light emission power (recording power value) stepwise.
[0096]
Proceeding to step 34, reading and comparing the recording results of the trial writing, proceeding to step 35, obtaining the optimum recording power value, and proceeding to step 36, based on the obtained optimum recording power value, the second layer. If the optimum recording power value is to be obtained, the coefficient calculated in advance for the second layer and the first layer is used, so that it is set.
Then, the process proceeds to step 37, the optimum recording power value is calculated using the coefficient, and the process is terminated.
[0097]
Further, the optimum recording power value determination process will be described.
This optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus is used to determine the data area (D1) for recording information on only one layer of the recording surface of the multilayer structure and the optimum recording power value of the laser beam emission power when recording information. When recording information on the optical disc 1 in which the test writing area (T1) is provided at a different position and only the data area (D2) for recording information is provided in the other layers, the data area (D1) and the test writing area are recorded. The trial writing area (for example, T1a) of the layer having the two areas (T1) performs the trial writing of the recording power to obtain the optimum recording power value, and has only the data area (D2) based on the optimum recording power value. Obtain the optimum recording power value of the layer without.
[0098]
For example, as shown in FIG. 7, when the information is recorded in the small area D2a of the data area D2 of the
[0099]
After the trial writing is completed, the information written in the small area T1a of the trial writing area T1 is read to obtain the optimum recording power value.
Further, in consideration of the difference between the optimum recording power values of the
[0100]
Then, the information can be correctly recorded in the small area D2a of the data area D2 by recording the optimum recording power value set in advance to the laser power of the optimum recording power value obtained by the above calculation. I can do it.
[0101]
In this way, this optical disk recording / reproducing apparatus has two layers, a data area and a trial writing area for only one recording layer, and an optical disk having a multilayer structure having only the data area for the other recording layers. Recording, the optimum recording power of the recording layer having only the data area and the trial writing area is obtained by trial writing, and the optimum recording power of the recording surface on which information is actually recorded is calculated therefrom. It is not necessary to have a trial writing area, and a lot of data area can be used.
[0102]
Note that, in the above-described optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus, the present invention is applied to an optical disc having a multilayer structure.3The optimum recording power value determining means described inTogether with the means of the first reference technique of the present inventionIf they are provided in combination, and one of them is selected and made effective, information can be recorded and reproduced easily without worrying about the type of the optical disk medium.
[0103]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the optical disc recording / reproducing apparatus and the optimum recording power value determination method for an optical disc of the present invention, when information is recorded on an optical disc having a multi-layer structure that can be additionally written or rewritten, the information writing layer The laser output during recording can be adjusted to an optimum recording power value for the data area.
