【0001】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image forming system that forms a single color composite image by sequentially forming a red image, a blue image, and a green image as basic images. The present invention also relates to a projection display apparatus employing such an image forming system.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, projection display devices using liquid crystal panels are known, and many of them use three liquid crystal panels. In such a projection display device, light emitted from a light source is separated into red light, green light, and blue light by a dichroic mirror, and each of these color lights is modulated by three liquid crystal panels, and then the dichroic mirror or An image is formed by combining with a combining prism. In addition, in the case where portability is important, such as a head-mounted display device, a red filter, a green filter, and a blue filter are arranged in a balanced manner corresponding to each pixel of the liquid crystal panel, and light transmitted through these filters is transmitted. Is modulated by each pixel to form one color composite image.
[0003]
Further, instead of the above-mentioned liquid crystal panel, a reflection type image forming panel called a digital micromirror device (DMD) is used, and a projection display device applying the Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology proposed by Texas Instruments Incorporated Has also been proposed. In this projection display device, the above-described liquid crystal panel is replaced with a digital micromirror device, and the method of forming a color composite image is basically the same as that of the projection display device using the liquid crystal panel described above. is there. A projection display apparatus using one digital micromirror device has also been proposed. Such a projection display device includes a rotating plate type color filter in which a red filter, a green filter, and a blue filter are formed. Three color lights are formed by these filters, and each color light is emitted by a digital micromirror device. A red image, a green image, and a blue image are formed by performing image processing in synchronization with the supplied timing.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The projection display device is a very convenient tool for displaying data and images on a large screen in presentations such as conferences and lectures. However, since the above-described projection display device uses three liquid crystal panels and the use of the three liquid crystal panels complicates the optical system and the circuit system, it is very expensive. . Further, in the head-mounted display device, an image is formed by one liquid crystal panel provided with a color filter, but one pixel is combined with three pixels provided with color filters that supply different color lights. Therefore, the resolution is lowered.
[0005]
Furthermore, a projection display device using three digital micromirror devices (DMD) instead of a liquid crystal panel is several times more expensive than a projection display device using three liquid crystal panels. In addition, since a projection display apparatus using one digital micromirror device can be reduced in price to some extent, it can be considered to be applied to television. However, since the configuration of the rotating plate type color filter is insufficient at present, problems such as false contours and color misregistration in moving image formation have not been solved.
[0006]
An object of the present invention is to solve such problems of the prior art.
[0007]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The inventor of the present invention has studied the physiological problems of the eye and brain, extracted the requirements that the projection display device should have, and completed the present invention.
[0008]
The first image forming system of the present invention includes a color light supply unit that sequentially supplies blue light, green light, and red light in this order, and the blue light, the green light, and the color light that are supplied by the color light supply unit. Image forming means for forming an image corresponding to red light based on image information synchronized with each of the color lights, and images are sequentially formed in the order of a blue image, a green image, and a red image. It is characterized by.
[0009]
FIG. 9 shows the human retina structure. There are two types of photoreceptor cells on the human retina: cone cells that distinguish colors and shapes, and rod cells that react sensitively to brightness. These cells reach ganglion cells through several pathways, eventually become optic nerve fibers, converge on the optic papilla, and go out of the eyeball as the optic nerve. In this process, the optic nerve fibers are divided into three fiber groups with different thicknesses. The thickest nerve fiber group has the fastest response speed to light stimulation, the thinnest nerve fiber group has the slowest response speed to light stimulation, and the middle nerve fiber group has the thickest fiber group and the most response to light stimulation. The response speed is intermediate between the thin fibers. In addition, these nerve fiber groups convey the information that the thickest nerve fiber group is red, the thinnest nerve fiber group is blue, and the middle nerve fiber group conveys green information (H.-T.Change: J. Neurophysiol., 19,224-231,1953, K. Motokawa: J. Neurophysiol., 12, 289-303, 1949). From the above, it can be understood that the color information is a mechanism that is sequentially transmitted to the visual center of the cerebrum in the time sequence of red, green, and blue.

Further, according to the second image forming system, by providing the light shielding period, afterimages of the blue image, the green image, and the red image formed before the light shielding period can be erased, and a clearer image can be obtained. Is possible.
[0015]
In the second image forming system, when the color light supply unit includes a light source and a color filter for generating color light from the light emitted from the light source, the color filter is a blue light. And a blue filter for generating green light, a green filter for generating green light, a red filter for generating red light, and a light blocking filter for generating a light blocking period. If the emitted light is allowed to pass through the blue filter, green filter, red filter, and light-shielding filter in this order, blue light, green light, and red light are supplied in this order, and a light-shielding period is generated. be able to.
[0016]
In the second image forming system, the color light supply means includes a red light source that supplies red light, a green light source that supplies green light, and a blue light source that supplies blue light. In this case, the blue light source, the green light source, and the red light source are turned on in this order, and the period during which all the light sources are turned off between the period during which the red light source is lit and the period during which the blue light source is lit. By providing the blue light, the green light, and the red light in this order, the light shielding period can be generated.
[0017]
