The packet switching is a communication method in which data to be transmitted to a partner is divided into data blocks of a predetermined size called packets, and a required header and footer are added to each packet and transmitted to a communication line.
The header contains information such as the address of the destination communication terminal, the transmission time and the sequence number, and the footer contains information such as data attributes and error check codes.
[0003]
In a packet switching system that performs data transmission by packet switching, a communication line is owned by a communication terminal that transmits a packet during transmission, but can be used for transmission of another packet during transmission. That is, the packet switching has an effect of improving the use efficiency of the communication line in a mode in which a specific communication line is shared among a plurality of communication terminals.
The packet switching has a possibility of causing a packet arrival delay on the communication terminal side when the traffic volume of the communication line is large. The packet arrival delay means that the time from when a packet is transmitted to when it is delivered to its destination address is longer than that in a normal case.
[0004]
By the way, with the expansion of networks, a technique of transmitting data generated continuously as real time (real time), for example, voice data obtained by digitizing telephone voice by packet switching, has been receiving attention. Telephone voice data generally has a larger data size than non-voice data, and moreover, since real-time performance is emphasized, it is necessary to transmit the voice data with higher priority than non-voice data.
However, when a large amount of voice data is transmitted preferentially on a communication line, a problem arises that the throughput of non-voice data is reduced accordingly.
[0005]
Therefore, by adjusting the total amount of voice data transmitted to the communication line according to the traffic amount of the communication line, real-time performance of voice data is ensured, and a decrease in non-voice data throughput is suppressed. A "packet switching system" is proposed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 58-201449.
[0006]
FIG. 6 is a block diagram showing the configuration of a system according to the above-mentioned "composite data packet switching system".

The packetization
[0009]
With the above configuration, when the traffic amount of the communication line measured in the complex data packet switch 2 increases, the above-described system sets the packetization condition determination value VEIs set to be large to reduce the probability of generating voice packets, so that a decrease in the throughput of non-voice data can be suppressed.
[0010]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In order to realize two-way real-time transmission / reception like a telephone, adaptive control should be performed based on the traffic volume of the communication line between the source and destination communication terminals.
However, in the above-described system, since the traffic amount of the communication line between the two communication terminals is conveniently determined based on the traffic amount measured in a specific packet switch, for example, a situation in which a packet is transmitted through a plurality of packet switches is used. Below, there is a possibility that a sufficient effect may not be obtained.
[0011]
In addition, if the discard amount of audio data increases with an increase in the packetization condition determination value related to the total amount of audio data regulation, it may hinder the understanding of the content. It is necessary to set an upper limit to the extent that there is no problem.
In other words, the effect reaches the limit at the set upper limit of the packetization condition determination value.
[0012]
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a packet switching system and a communication terminal capable of expecting a sufficient effect even in a situation where a packet is transmitted via a plurality of packet switches. I do.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a packet switching system and a communication terminal that do not hinder the understanding of the content due to the regulation of the total amount of voice data.
