In this liquid crystal projection device, as described in, for example, Japanese Patent Publication No. 4-35048, light of an illumination light source is converted into three primary colors of red (R), green (G) and blue (B) by a dichroic mirror. Separated into 3
Using a single liquid crystal display panel, light intensity modulation is performed based on a predetermined image signal for each of R, G, and B colors,
The image for each color of R, G, and B obtained by the light intensity modulation is added and synthesized by a dichroic mirror to form a color image, and the color image is projected on a screen by a projection lens. As a projection lens used in such a liquid crystal projection device, a zoom lens is used to obtain a screen of an arbitrary magnification.

However, in the configuration described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 4-83215, the back focus can be secured only about 1.8 times the diagonal length of the screen, and the arrangement of the dichroic mirror and the liquid crystal display panel is restricted. . Further, the angle of view at the wide-angle end is only about 44 °, and it is desirable to further increase the angle of view in consideration of the projection distance at ordinary homes.

A projection zoom lens according to the present invention is a projection zoom lens for projecting light emitted from an illumination light source and modulated by a light intensity modulating means onto a screen. A first lens group having a positive refractive power, a second lens group having a negative refractive power, a third lens group having a positive refractive power, having a positive refractive power The first lens unit and the fourth lens unit do not move, and the second lens unit moves toward the third lens unit during zooming from the wide-angle end to the telephoto end. , The third
The lens group is configured to first move toward the fourth lens group and then move along an arc-shaped trajectory toward the second lens group. The fourth lens group includes a negative lens having a concave surface facing the screen. And the other lens group consisting of a negative lens and a positive lens having a concave surface facing the screen side and a positive lens having a large curvature convex toward the light intensity modulating means. This is a projection zoom lens that is sequentially arranged from the side and satisfies the following conditional expressions.

According to the present invention, a long back focus is ensured by the above-described configuration, good imaging performance is maintained, and a wide projection angle of view is obtained. First, the conditional expression (1), 0.4 <| f 2 | /
For fw <0.7, | f 2 | / fw is the upper limit of 0.7
Above, that is, when the negative power of the second lens unit is weakened, the movement amount of the second lens unit in zooming is increased, which undesirably increases the size of the entire lens system. On the other hand, if the lower limit of the second lens group becomes 0.4 or less, that is, if the negative power of the second lens unit becomes strong, it is difficult to correct distortion, curvature of field at the wide-angle end, and higher-order spherical aberration particularly at the telephoto end. Is not preferred.

Also, 0.5 <e 3 w / f in conditional expression (2)
When e < 3 > w / fw exceeds the upper limit of 0.8 with respect to w <0.8, the negative power of one of the fourth lens units is increased, and higher-order aberrations are generated. It is not preferable because it is difficult to make a good correction over the entire magnification range. Conversely, if the lower limit is 0.5 or less, the negative power of this one lens unit will be weakened, and a sufficient back focus cannot be secured.

Further, within the range of conditional expression (2), for 1.6 <f 4 /fw<2.1 of conditional expression (3), f 4 / f
When fw is 1.6 or less or 2.1 or more, the power of each lens element of one lens group and the other lens group in the fourth lens group increases, and coma aberration particularly occurs in the entire zoom range, and correction is performed. Is difficult, which is not preferable.
On the other hand, when the lower limit is 1.6 or less, the power of the lens elements in one lens group and the other lens group is weakened, which is advantageous for aberration correction, but the combined focal length of the fourth lens group becomes longer, It is difficult to obtain a wide angle of view, which is not preferable.

The negative lens and the positive lens in one lens group 34a and the negative lens and the positive lens in the other lens group 34b are more preferably separated from each other for aberration correction. In consideration of the above, the air lens portion caused by the separation becomes very sensitive, and the air gap error and the eccentricity of the lens cause deterioration of the imaging performance. Therefore, it is preferable to use a cemented lens as shown in the figure.

1. A projection zoom lens for projecting light emitted from an illumination light source and modulated by a light intensity modulating means on a screen, wherein the positive zoom lens is arranged along the optical axis from the screen side. A first lens group having a refractive power, a second lens group having a negative refractive power, a third lens group having a positive refractive power, and a fourth lens group having a positive refractive power. From the wide-angle end to the telephoto end, In zooming, the first lens group and the fourth lens group do not move, the second lens group moves toward the third lens group, and the third lens group starts with the fourth lens group. After moving toward the second lens group side, the fourth lens group is composed of a negative lens and a positive lens having a concave surface facing the screen side. And the screen A negative lens and a positive lens with a concave surface facing the lens side, and the other lens group composed of a positive lens having a large curvature convex toward the light intensity modulation means, are sequentially arranged from the screen side, and A zoom lens for projection, characterized by satisfying the following conditional expression: (1) 0.4 <| f 2 | / fw <0.7 (2) 0.5 <e 3 w / fw <0.8 (3) 1.6 <f 4 /fw<2.1 Where fw: focal length at the wide-angle end (a virtual lens position where the distance from the lens tip to the screen (hereinafter, referred to as projection distance) is ∞) f 2 : focal length of the second lens group e 3 w: third lens group and the main point interval f at the wide angle end of the fourth lens group 4 is a composite focal length of the fourth lens one lens group in the group and the other lens groups.
