2. Description of the Related Art In recent years, with the development of image processing technology, digital copiers are disclosed in, for example,
As shown in "Image Processing Apparatus" of JP-A-70, an apparatus capable of automatically performing image trimming has been developed. In such a digital copying machine, the image reading means reads a surrounding mark of a predetermined density attached on the original image together with the original image, the surrounding mark identifying means identifies the surrounding area, and performs different image processing inside and outside the surrounding area (for example, the surrounding area). The image is extracted by performing a blanking process on the outside of the image. Therefore, if the original is marked with a felt pen or the like, it is possible to obtain a copy image in which a desired area is freely extracted.

Specifically, for example, as shown in FIG. 32, a specific article indicated by a dashed line is surrounded by a felt pen as shown by a thick dashed line on a newspaper, and image trimming is performed. It is possible to obtain a copy image of the area including the image.

However, according to the conventional digital copying machine capable of image trimming, an area marked with a felt pen or the like is simply extracted to form a copy image. Articles), as shown in FIG. 32, there was a problem that enclaves occurred, sentences were dispersed in two places, the appearance was poor, and it was difficult to read, and there were problems that many irregularities were difficult to read. .

Further, since the circumscribed shape of the extracted copy image and the shape of the recording paper are significantly different from each other, it is necessary to use a recording paper which is larger than the actual original image area. There was also a problem that blank space was generated.

[0006] On the other hand, there is a method of cutting and copying a newspaper surface with scissors, but it is apparent that the same problem occurs when the newspaper is simply cut out. For this reason, it is often the case that the operator judges the readability of the copied image, and cuts out an article with too much unevenness with scissors, pastes it so that the unevenness or enclave is not conspicuous, and copies again. Although it is used, there is a problem that the operation is complicated and troublesome.

As a technique for solving these problems to some extent, as disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 1-256271, a method of designating and trimming a plurality of rectangular areas with a tablet and moving and rearranging each of the plurality of rectangular areas is disclosed. Although there is an image forming apparatus that can perform the following, this technology determines the moving direction and the amount irrespective of the image content and rearranges it.
There is a problem that usable manuscripts are naturally restricted. Also, if a configuration in which an arbitrary moving direction and amount can be specified for each tablet-specified rectangular area can be set, the problem on the output copy image can be solved, but the input operation is difficult and the practicality is extremely low. It is inevitable.

[Operation of Image Processing Unit] Original image RGB image information read as described above is input to the image processing unit 200. The functions of the image processing unit 200 are divided into two categories. The first category is a function for supporting image operation instead of directly operating the image signal. For example, there are an image area separation process for distinguishing and separating a character region and a gradation image region, a document size detection process, and a color document / black and white document identification process. Hereinafter, the image processing in the image processing unit 200 is referred to as basic image processing.

For example, when the image processing unit 200 determines that the document is “monochrome monochrome” and transmits this to the system control unit 700, the system control unit 700 instructs the printer 300 to apply K development,
A command to stop MY development is sent. Then, the printer 300 urges only the K developing device 303K, which will be described later, to stop the development of other colors and efficiently forms an image.

For example, the C image is formed as follows. The charging corotron 304C uniformly charges the photosensitive drum 302 with negative charges to -700 V by corona discharge. Subsequently, the LEDA 336C performs raster exposure based on the C signal. A recording signal for image formation is supplied from the image processing unit 200 in a general copy mode and from the image data storage unit 500 in a special copy mode including image rearrangement processing.

The input recording signal is input to the recording interface circuit 333, and the recording control circuit 335C controls the light emission of the LEDA 336C for each input pixel based on the recording signal. More specifically, for example, in the case of the highest C density pixel, an LED equivalent to 3 × 3 main scans emits full light, and in the case of a white pixel, no light is emitted. The light is emitted by the number (or time) of the light emitting diodes.

The toner in the developing device 303C is negatively charged by the doctor blade 338, and the developing roller 339 of the present developing device is connected to the metal base layer of the photosensitive drum 302 by a power source (not shown) with a negative DC potential. And the alternating current are biased to a superimposed potential. With such a configuration, the toner does not adhere to the portion of the photosensitive drum 302 where the charge remains, and the C toner is attracted to the portion without the charge, that is, the exposed portion, so that the C visible light similar to the latent image can be obtained. An image will be formed. Incidentally, such a developing method may be called a reversal developing method.

The M recording signal for image formation was the same as the C signal at the time when it was input to the recording interface circuit 333, but the delay circuit 334 delayed the recording control by a delay corresponding to the distance between the C exposure position and the M exposure position. Circuit 335M has been reached. Therefore, based on the delayed signal, the LEDA 336
If the light emission of M is controlled, the C toner image formed by the single sample point data having the original image and the M image exposure position are accurately overlapped. When the M raster image is exposed in this manner, in the exposed portion of the photosensitive drum 302 that is initially uniformly charged, the charge proportional to the amount of exposure disappears, and an electrostatic latent image is formed.

The M toner in the developing device 303M is charged to a negative polarity by the doctor blade 338 as in the developing device 303C. The developing roller is a photosensitive drum 30.
2 is non-contact but biased to the same potential as C development. Therefore, the toner does not adhere to the portion of the photosensitive drum 302 where the charge remains, and the M toner flies and is attracted to the M-exposed portion to form an M visible image similar to the electrostatic latent image. Similarly, the Y image is placed on the CM toner image.
The K image is formed so as to be superimposed on the CMY image. Since the image processing unit 200 performs the UCR (under color removal) process, there is little chance that one pixel is developed with toner of all four colors.

When the image rearrangement process is performed, the original image information read by the scanner 100 is temporarily stored in the image data storage unit 500 because it is not easy or unreasonable to perform the function only by the neighborhood process. The image rearrangement processing section 400 performs image rearrangement processing based on this information, converts the image into recording information, and converts the recording data into the recording interface circuit 3 of the image forming printer 300.
33 to form a visible image on a recording medium. Therefore, when performing the image rearrangement process, there is a slight time delay between the reading of the original image and the output of the copied image.

In the state where only the image trimming process is performed, the following phenomenon may occur. (1) Image for recording paper size (specific article item)
Is inclined. This is because the original used for trimming copy is generally large in size in many cases, and it is not easy to place the original. (2) A noise image noise is formed around the specific article item to be extracted. This is the result of the widespread encircling of the psychology of avoiding missing article images when enclosing an article with a pen, and is often the case. (3) Single specific article item is item-1 and item
It is dispersed in two places of m-2, the appearance is not good, and it is hard to read. (4) The specific article item has many irregularities and is difficult to read. (5) A single specific article item is item-1 and item
m-2, and there are many irregularities, so that a recording paper having a size larger than necessary for the image area is required. (6) The circumscribed shape of the specific article item and the recording paper shape are remarkably different from each other, giving an uncomfortable feeling to the eyes of two persons who are used to general documents that are roughly similar. (7) The source of the article is not clear because there is no magazine name or date.

Further, as described above, this digital copying machine is provided with the image file section 600, records and stores the read image on a removable magneto-optical disk, and reloads the disk at any time. To obtain a hard copy on the recording paper. Further, the disc recording medium can be provided to a search system having another CRT image display function. Even in such a use environment, a phenomenon similar to the generation of a copy image occurs. In other words, the cutout image is C
Image tilt, unnecessary ambient noise image,
There are various inconveniences such as enclaves, various image frame shapes, useless blank portions, and the like, and the number of display pixels of an image display means such as a CRT is extremely small as compared with the number of pixels of a hard copy. It becomes more serious as it increases. For example, it is often difficult to display all article images simultaneously on a CRT due to the limitation of the total number of pixels, and the presence of enclaves is obvious at a glance on recording paper. Obstacles get bigger.

The read image data is sent to the image processing unit 20.
The image trimming process is performed within 0, and the outside of the mark image mark as shown in FIG. 6 is blanked (S103).
In the cutout rearrangement copy mode, it is assumed that the target document is mainly a newspaper. Newspapers are mostly black-and-white monochrome images containing only ink, composed of text, line drawings, and coarse halftone photographs of about 75 lines / inch, and are beautiful enough without multi-level gradation processing that focuses on faithful reproduction of shaded images. It is experimentally known that copy reproduction is possible. Therefore, in order to simplify the subsequent processing and shorten the copy generation time, in the present cut-out / rearrangement copy mode, the gradation processing circuit of the image processing unit 200 uses a simple black-and-white binary except for another processing related to search word mark detection described later. Is activated to the activation mode.

Subsequently, the image rearrangement processing section 400 starts the outer periphery clip processing. In the outer periphery clipping process, the ruled line information formed in the preceding stage is input together with the image information in the image data storage unit 500, the surrounding noise image noise outside the specific article item in FIG. 6 is deleted, and the image data in the image data storage unit 500 is deleted. Update (S105). If the image data at this time is formed into an image and output on recording paper, the result is as shown in FIG. It can be seen from the comparison with FIG. 6 that the noise portion around the article has been completely removed. Also, there is a possibility that the recording paper size can be made smaller than the initial one.

Here, when the inclination is out of the allowable range, the image inclination correcting process is driven and the image data storage unit 5 is activated.
The rotation of the image data in 00 is corrected (S108). The image in FIG. 6 is a target for correction when the inclination exceeds the allowable range. FIG. 14 shows an image formed with the image data in the image data storage unit 500 at the stage of completion of the inclination correction and output to a recording sheet. Compared to FIG. 6, it can be seen that the noise portion is completely removed and the circumscribed side of the article image item is parallel to the recording paper.

If the rearrangement required flag is set, a body cutout process is executed (S111). In the text clipping process, first, the image that is clipped by the steps of S104 to S109, clipped on the outer periphery, and corrected in inclination is divided by a grid-like mesh in which rectangles of one line size of the article text string are connected. The cut-out rectangle for one line of the text is also called a section. Next, the body or non-body (heading, abstract, photograph, figure, etc.) is recognized for each of the divided rectangles, and the recognition information is stored as original arrangement data.

Next, the image type arrangement information of the original image stored as the original arrangement data is checked to determine whether the original image can be rearranged (S112). Here, when it is determined that the original image has a structure that is not suitable for rearrangement, the high-speed step for rearrangement is skipped and the process proceeds to the recording size calculation processing of S115. (1) Ruled Line Cutout Processing The ruled line cutout processing program is stored in the ROM 407 and has a function of cutting out field separators such as ruled lines and blank spaces between columns. The ruled line cut-out processing is performed by a method in which black pixels having a predetermined width are connected in a straight line having a predetermined length or more and a blank having a predetermined width exists around the black pixels. If any of the following items (a) to (g) is detected during ruled line tracking, it is recognized as a non-ruled line and the ruled line tracking process is stopped. (A) When a black line segment during tracking is interrupted by a short length. (B) When the thickness of the black line during tracking changes in the middle. (C) When the black line segment in the course of tracking is bent in the middle. (D) When a black pixel in another direction connected to a black line segment during tracking is detected. (E) When a black pixel is detected in the immediate vicinity of the black line segment during tracking. (F) When it is determined that the ruled line is not parallel or perpendicular to the already detected ruled line. (G) When it is determined that the object is located at a position other than a distance of an integral multiple of the assumed step width from the ruled line already detected.

By the way, many newspaper articles do not have a ruled line between the columns of the text. It is typically an editorial or boxed article, with no ruled lines. In the ruled line cutout processing, when it is detected that there is no ruled line, a blank line between columns (a type of field separator) is used instead.
Is detected. However, as a pre-process for directly tracking blank lines in image data, an operation of temporarily expanding black pixels and embedding small isolated white pixels may be performed. After this preprocessing, the inter-stage blank line cutout is detected by a method of tracking as linear continuous white pixels having a predetermined width and length. The width of the white line is considerably larger than the previously described black ruled line. In addition, for example, when the following (h) to (l) are detected during the white line tracking,
Recognizing the non-white line, the white line tracking process is stopped. (H) When the white line segment during tracking is interrupted by a short length. (I) The thickness of the white line in the course of tracking changes on the way, and

In the ruled line cutout processing, first, scanning for ruled line search is started from the scanning line S0 in FIG. However, since there is no black pixel of a predetermined width in the scanning line S0, the scanning shifts to the scanning of the second scanning line S1. When the first section s1 (0,0) is examined on the scanning line S1, all pixels are white pixels, so that the process proceeds to the next section s1 (1,0). In the section s1 (1,0), seven consecutive black pixels of img1 part are detected, and all the surrounding pixels are white pixels, so that they are ruled line candidates. When a ruled line candidate image is detected, upper, lower, left and right sections adjacent to the detected section are checked. If a black pixel connected to the original ruled line candidate black pixel in a straight line is detected in the adjacent section, the surrounding section of the section is further traced. This tracking process is continued unless it is determined that the ruled line-like black line segment has lost the property of the ruled line.

When this tracking process is performed with respect to 0), it is found that black pixels are immediately interrupted in the upward direction, and are interrupted from s1 (1, 2) in the downward direction. As a result, it is found that the continuous length of the black pixels is shorter than the specified length, and at least it is not a ruled line, and the tracking is stopped.

No ruled line candidates are found at s1 (2,0) and s1 (3,0). When approaching s1 (2,4), ruled line candidates are found again. Then, the tracking process of this line segment is executed. In the upward direction in FIG. 9, s1 (2,
It is found that the property of at least the ruled line is maintained up to -14), and in fact, the property of the ruled line is maintained outside the range shown in FIG. Similarly, in the downward direction, the ruled line property is maintained up to the end point of s1 (5, 3), and it is apparent that the line is terminated by the line segment having the ruled line property.

At s2 (3,0), one ruled line candidate is found, and tracking starts in the vertical direction. As a result, it becomes clear that the line is a ruled line, and its coordinates are as follows. First end point of img3 ruled line x = 720, y = 320 Second end point of img3 ruled line x = 368, y = 3042 Thus, ruled lines are successively extracted.

As described above, there are cases where ruled lines cannot be extracted because there are no ruled lines. In such a case, a white line segment that is a space between steps is extracted. Also, an article consisting of only one column in a multi-column newspaper is cut out by the image trimming process and is stored in the image data storage unit 500.
In some cases, neither a ruled line nor a white line between steps can be detected. In such a case, a blank portion on the outer periphery of the trimming image or in the vicinity thereof is extracted as a white line segment.

Although this white line segment is somewhat uncomfortable as a word in real life, it is called a white ruled line because it has a logically equivalent concept in the ruled line cutout processing. The extracted ruled lines and white ruled lines may sometimes be incorrect. Therefore, it is verified whether or not the extracted ruled line is a true ruled line based on the distance between the ruled lines, the positional relationship with the outer periphery of the clipped image, and the like. Or the white ruled line is deleted.

In the outer peripheral clipping process, as a first process, an orthogonal polygon including the extracted ruled line group is recognized as one article range. Therefore, in the case of the automatic trimming image shown in FIG. 6 (or when the image of FIG. 6 is formed by manual clipping with scissors), referring to FIG. 10, an orthogonal polygon box 1 surrounding the outermost ruled line group is referred to. Is recognized as an article frame. These article frames are set with a slight clearance C from the ruled line.

FIG. 11 is a view for explaining the process of deleting the unnecessary image noise, and is an enlarged view of the upper right portion of the second article frame box2. In the figure, white
The rectangular rectangle represented by −pixel represents white data, and the outer clip processing performs an operation of rewriting all the image information outside the article frame in the image data storage unit 500 with the white data. Therefore, the outside of the article frame is clipped, and an image is formed based on this image data as shown in FIG.

FIG. 13 is an enlarged view of the upper right part of the image of FIG. The image inclination θ is calculated from the arc tangent of the ruled line. For example, the information on the first ruled line line1 has already been stored as ruled line information. Therefore, the inclination θ of the image is obtained by the following equation (1). [Equation 1] Image inclination θ = arctan (dy / dx) = arctan ((284-176) / (760-176)) = 10.47 degrees

In the figure, image0 is the upper right portion of the tilted image in FIG. 6, and image1 is the image after the tilt of the original image has been corrected by the main correction process. This correction processing is achieved by a method in which the operation of rotating the original image data at the arbitrary point p0 in the image data storage unit 500 by the angle θ and moving it to the point p1 is applied to all the addresses.
The moving operation of the image data is performed so that the original image addresses x0 and y0 and the addresses x1 and y1 after the rotation operation in the X and Y coordinate systems satisfy the relationship of Expression 2. [Equation 2] x1 = cosax0 + sinay0 y1 = -sinax0 + cosay0

S201: FIG. 6 after completion of image inclination correction
Investigate the direction of the article text string in. The directionality is calculated based on the ruled line information. The ruled line interval has a value determined according to the typesetting rules for each newspaper,
It has been found that no matter which Japanese newspaper is used, it is generally within a predetermined range. Therefore, it is determined that the text is in a direction orthogonal to the ruled line between the ruled lines having this value. Further, when a unique newspaper name is input on the operation panel 801 of FIG. 4, the judgment is performed with higher accuracy by utilizing this.

S206: It is checked whether or not the degree of depression of the concave portion of the orthogonal polygon forming the article frame or the degree of overhang of the convex portion is within a prescribed sharpness. Fine irregularities are often detected for the purpose of correction because they often cause discomfort to the person reading the copy. When there is more irregularity than specified, it is determined that rearrangement is necessary. The unevenness determination is performed by using the article frame information whose inclination has been corrected, and the prescribed allowable unevenness range of the copying machine is equal in length and width, that is, square. However, it is possible for the operator to change to a stricter rule, or to change the rule to a looser rule in order to shorten the processing time.

S301: First, the ruled line between steps in the ruled line information is extracted, and the frequency of the projected black pixel in the direction orthogonal to the ruled line (this may be referred to as a marginal distribution) is obtained for each step. However, once the position and size (section) of at least one text line are known, lines can be cut out continuously based on the position and size. Therefore, it is not always necessary to find the marginal distribution for all columns. FIGS. 18A and 18B are diagrams for explaining the article image item of FIG. 6 as an example. FIG. 18A shows a part of the first row, and FIG. 18B shows a part of the second row. In the figure, "count" is a graph of the frequency count result. Here, the text string

S302: The frequency distribution is set to a predetermined threshold value th.
To binarize. The threshold value th is determined according to the amount of noise such as a dot-like ink stain between text lines. According to the experiment, since the number of black pixels in the text is overwhelmingly large, setting a relatively large value of about 30 is suitable for a document having a high background density.

S303: In this process, the width of the text line and the line pitch are specified from the pulse train obtained as described above.
For this purpose, the period (pitch) p and the pulse w of the text string part can be determined by a method of performing autocorrelation analysis of the marginal distribution binarized data. The ruled line intervals above and below the text section are calculated as the length lk of the text line.

S306: In this process, a pattern matching template tp for segment type recognition is formed.
FIG. 20A is a diagram for explaining this process.
The lk × p rectangle is the partition shape used to partition the original image in step S305, and the lc × w is the minimum circumscribed rectangle of only the character string excluding the space between lines and the space between columns in the body section. The dimensions of the latter are determined in advance as a text section, for example, read. This is achieved by examining the marginal distribution of a section such as type [1] [20]. The inner rectangular area is a first area “taarea1”, and the remaining area obtained by subtracting the inner rectangular area from the outer rectangular area is a second area “taarea”.

S310: It is checked whether or not the overlapped section is a section at the end of the image data. In many cases, the edge section is easily misunderstood as the text, such as decorative ruled lines such as sections [4] and [7]. Therefore, more detailed collation is required for the edge text candidate section. For this purpose, check here whether it is an edge. Whether it is an edge or not can be determined by checking whether or not the type data of a section adjacent to the section in the original arrangement data is 0 (outside the article).

S 311: In this process, it is determined whether or not the black image in the first area “tarea 1” is distributed at the assumed character size and character interval for the text candidate section at the edge of the image data. For example, in the sections [4] and [7], there is no blank space between characters and it is determined to be non-text.

(7) Relocation Calculation Process The relocation calculation process is stored in the program storage ROM 407, performs logical relocation, and stores the processing result as relocation data. The relocation data is secured in the work data storage RAM 411 for performing the relocation processing. FIG. 23 is a diagram showing the data structure of the present data, which is shown in a description format in C language in an ellipse and illustrated in a table format below. Here, copy is the name given to the relocation data, org-xadd, org-yadd
Is the x and y coordinate values when the memory address of the quadrilateral image data storage unit 500 circumscribing the rearranged article is set as the origin, and cell is a two-dimensional array structure data storing data of the rearrangement section. Name, read-x, r in it
The address of the original arrangement section is stored in “ad-y”. Hereinafter, description will be made step by step with reference to the flowchart of FIG.

S401: The directionality of the body text is determined, and the process of setting the origin at the upper right of a normal Japanese article is performed.
Since at least the direction of the article (the direction of the text) has already been determined as a result of the processing by the means described above, it is sufficient that the orientation, that is, the top and bottom, can be determined here.

The top / bottom determination uses a method of inferring from the arrangement condition of the text and the non-text. For example, (a) the probability that the headline (ratio text) is at the upper right or above is overwhelmingly large. (B) The enclaves are fewer at the beginning of the article and more at the end. (C) When there is a thin convex area, the probability that the area is lower is high. :: There are some rules and so on. In this copying machine, these probabilistic rules are used as a fuzzy rule base for the fixed data storage R.
It is stored in the OM 408. The inference in this process uses a so-called fuzzy inference method, and derives an inference result by comparing the original arrangement data with the fuzzy rule. X = 0, y with respect to the input of FIG.
= 0 is determined to be the upper right of the article.
