Description

The present invention relates to a rotating electric machine.

Inverters (power conversion devices) that exchange power with rotating electric machines need to properly cool power modules, etc. In rotating electric machines that have a stator, rotor, and power conversion device housed inside a housing, heat from the stator and rotor is easily transferred to the power conversion device, so some ingenuity is required to cool the power conversion device.

Patent document 1 discloses a configuration in which a control device having an inverter circuit is provided inside the motor housing, and the control device is cooled by air drawn in through an air intake hole by a cooling fan fixed to the rotating shaft.

In conventional technology, the power conversion device is cooled by air outside the housing, but the air temperature depends on the environmental temperature outside the housing, so there is a problem that the power conversion device cannot always be cooled appropriately.

The present invention aims to provide a rotating electric machine that can more effectively cool a power conversion device in a rotating electric machine that has a power conversion device built into a housing.

One aspect of the present invention is applied to a rotating electric machine including a rotor having a rotating shaft, a stator provided on the outer periphery of the rotor, a power conversion device that transfers power between the rotor and the stator, and a cylindrical housing that accommodates the rotor, the stator, and the power conversion device. The rotating shaft has an extension portion formed by extending in the axial direction from the axial end of the rotor. The power conversion device is disposed axially outward of the axial end of the stator and is formed so as to surround the periphery of the extension portion. The housing has a refrigerant flow path that surrounds the power conversion device. The extension portion is disposed between the power conversion device and the axial end of the stator, and includes a fan that rotates with the rotation of the rotating shaft to blow air radially outward.

According to the present invention, the fan blows air radially outward between the power conversion device and the stator inside the housing, making it difficult for heat from the stator to be transferred to the power conversion device. Furthermore, the air blown by the fan exchanges heat with the refrigerant flowing through the refrigerant passage in the housing, suppressing an increase in the air temperature inside the housing and allowing the power conversion device to be cooled efficiently.

The following describes an embodiment of the present invention with reference to the attached drawings.

Figure 1 is an explanatory diagram of a motor 1 as a rotating electric machine according to an embodiment of the present invention, showing an axial cross-sectional view. Figure 2 is a radial cross-sectional view of the motor 1, showing a cross-sectional view taken along line II-II in Figure 1.

The motor 1 is composed of a stator 20 formed in a circular ring shape, a rotor 30 rotatably mounted inside the stator 20, a power conversion device 50 that transfers power between the stator 20, and a housing 10 that houses the stator 20, the rotor 30, and the power conversion device 50.

The motor 1 of this embodiment is mounted on an electric vehicle or a hybrid vehicle and functions as an electric motor that drives the wheels. The motor 1 also functions as a generator that receives driving force from the rotation of the wheels to generate electricity (regenerative power). The motor 1 may also be used as a drive device for devices other than automobiles, such as various electrical appliances or industrial machines.

The housing 10 has a cylindrical shape, and the outer periphery of the stator 20 is inscribed and fixed to the inner periphery of the housing 10. A cover 13 that covers the opening of the housing 10 is fixed to the axial end of the housing 10 (the right side in FIG. 1). The housing 10 is also provided with a cover (not shown) at the end on the left side in FIG. 1, and the inside of the housing 10 is configured as an airtight structure, so that air from outside the housing 10 is unlikely to enter.

The stator 20 has coils in slots (not shown). Coil ends 21 protrude from both axial ends of the stator 20.

The rotor 30 is rotatably arranged inside the stator 20. The rotor 30 is coaxial with the rotating shaft 40.

The rotating shaft 40 rotates coaxially with the rotor 30. An extension 41 extends from the rotating shaft 40 axially outward (to the right in FIG. 1) beyond the axial end of the rotor 30. The extension 41 is supported by the cover 13 via a bearing 45.

The power conversion device 50 is disposed axially outward from the axial ends of the stator 20 and the rotor 30. As shown in FIG. 2, the power conversion device 50 is formed in an annular shape so as to surround the periphery of the extension portion 41. The periphery of the power conversion device 50 is covered by the housing 10.

The cylindrical space on the inner periphery of the housing 10, which is axially outboard of the stator 20 and rotor 30, is called the "power conversion device housing chamber 150" in which the power conversion device 50 is housed.

The housing 10 that constitutes the power conversion device chamber 150 is provided with a first refrigerant flow path 11. The first refrigerant flow path 11 circulates the refrigerant sent from outside the motor 1 and exchanges heat with the air inside the housing 10.

The housing 10 has a second refrigerant flow path 12 on the outer periphery of the stator 20. The second refrigerant flow path 12 cools the stator 20 from the outside with a refrigerant. The first refrigerant flow path 11 and the second refrigerant flow path 12 are configured so that the refrigerant communicates with each other inside the housing 10.

In the power conversion device housing chamber 150, the extension 41 of the rotating shaft 40 is provided with a fan 60. The fan 60 is arranged so as to be located between the axial end of the coil end 21 of the stator 20 and the axial inside of the power conversion device 50. The fan 60 is fixed to the extension 41 and is configured to rotate with the rotation of the extension 41 (i.e., the rotation of the rotating shaft 40) to blow air in the power conversion device housing chamber 150 radially outward.

Next, the configuration of the power conversion device 50 will be described.

Figure 3 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the power conversion device 50 of the motor 1 of this embodiment.

The power conversion device 50 includes a control board 51, a power module 52, a smoothing capacitor 53, and a conductor 54. These are formed in an annular shape as described above in FIG. 2, and are arranged around the extension portion 41 within the power conversion device housing chamber 150. The conductor 54 is formed, for example, from a bus bar or a harness.

The power conversion device 50 is arranged in the following order, stacked with a small gap between them, from the axial end of the stator 20 toward the axial outside (the right side in FIG. 3): control board 51, power module 52, and smoothing capacitor 53.

The control board 51 controls the operation (switching) of the power module 52. The power module 52 has multiple switching elements, and converts DC power supplied from a battery (not shown) via a conductor 54 into AC power, which is then supplied to the coil of the stator 20. During regeneration of the motor 1, the power module 52 converts AC power supplied from the coil of the stator 20 into DC power, and outputs the regenerative power via the conductor 54. The smoothing capacitor 53 smoothes the DC power flowing in the circuit.

Electrical components 51a, 51b and a connector 51d are mounted on the front and back surfaces of the control board 51.

The power module 52 has coolers 52a, 52b on its front and back surfaces. The coolers 52a, 52b have multiple fins and cool the switching elements by exchanging heat with the surrounding air.

The motor 1, which includes a stator 20 and a power conversion device 50 inside a housing 10, cools the power conversion device 50 by blowing air from a fan 60. The housing 10 has an expanded diameter section 150a, where the inner circumferential wall of the housing 10 is expanded, axially outward of the location where the stator 20 is fitted. A step section 14 is formed on the inner circumferential wall of the housing 10 between the location where the stator 20 is fixed and the expanded diameter section 150a. The step section 14 is a wall-like structure that runs along the radial direction.

The step portion 14 is located on the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10, axially outboard of the axial end of the stator 20 and axially inboard of the axial end of the coil end 21.

The fan 60 blows air radially outward as the rotating shaft 40 rotates. The fan 60 has a blade shape configured so that the air is blown axially inward from the axial position of the extension portion 41 on which the fan 60 is mounted.

The air blown by the fan 60 flows toward the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10, collides with the inner peripheral wall of the enlarged diameter section 150a, and then changes direction to the axial direction. At this time, the presence of the stepped section 14 causes the air to flow axially outward as shown by the arrow in Figure 2, making it difficult for the air to flow toward the coil end 21.

The air directed axially outward by the step portion 14 flows axially outward along the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10. The housing 10 is provided with fins 18 erected inward from the enlarged diameter portion 150a (the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10) at a position surrounding the power conversion device 50. The fins 18 extend in the axial direction from the step portion 14 to the cover 13 as shown in FIG. 3. Note that the fins 18 may be arranged in multiples at a predetermined interval in the circumferential direction as shown in FIG. 2, or there may be only one fin 18. This makes it easier for the air blown by the fan 60 to flow in the axial direction, and increases the contact area between the air and the first refrigerant flow path 11, improving the heat exchange efficiency.

Part of the air along the inner wall of the housing 10 moves away from the inner wall of the housing 10 toward the inner diameter side, i.e., toward the power conversion device 50. This air flows through the gap between the control board 51 and the power module 52, and the gap between the power module 52 and the smoothing capacitor 53. The air flows over the surfaces of the coolers 52a and 52b, thereby cooling the power module 52.

Air that flows axially outward along the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10 collides with the cover 13 and moves radially inward. This air flows into the space near the extension 41 on the inner diameter side of the smoothing capacitor 53. Here, the air turns axially inward and returns to the fan 60. The fan 60 sucks in air from near the extension 41 and blows it radially outward again.

With this configuration, the air blown by the fan 60 circulates around the power conversion device 50 in the power conversion device housing chamber 150, thereby cooling the power conversion device 50. The air blown by the fan 60 flows between the coil end 21 of the stator 20 and the power conversion device 50, forming an air curtain, making it difficult for heat from the coil end 21 to be transmitted to the power conversion device 50. The air that heads toward the inner wall of the power conversion device housing chamber 150 flows along the inner wall and exchanges heat with the first refrigerant flow path 11, lowering the temperature of the air circulating in the power conversion device housing chamber 150. This allows the power conversion device 50 to be cooled more efficiently.

The air blown by the fan 60 is sent between the coil end 21 of the stator 20 and the control board 51 of the power conversion device 50. Here, the electrical components 51a, 51b arranged on the surface of the control board 51 facing the coil end 21 are arranged such that the electrical components 51a (e.g., microcomputers, surface-mounted ICs, etc.) with a low standing height are arranged on the inner diameter side, i.e., the side closer to the fan 60, and the electrical components 51b (e.g., transformers, coils, etc.) with a high standing height are arranged on the outer diameter side, i.e., the side farther from the fan 60. With this configuration, air pressure loss can be suppressed on the inner diameter side, which is the inlet for the air blown by the fan 60, and air stagnation can be suppressed.

Similarly, on the surface of the control board 51 facing the power module 52, electrical components 51a with a low standing height are arranged on the outer diameter side, i.e., the side closer to the inner circumferential wall of the housing 10, and electrical components 51b with a high standing height are arranged on the inner diameter side, i.e., the side closer to the extension portion 41. With this configuration, it is possible to suppress pressure loss of air on the outer diameter side, which serves as the inlet, for air that flows between the control board 51 and the power module 52, away from the inner circumferential wall of the housing 10.

As shown in FIG. 2, the control board 51 is connected to a cable 51c via a connector 51d. The connector 51d is arranged so that its long side is along the tangential direction of the extension portion 41. As a result, the cable 51c connected to the connector 51d is arranged in the radial direction of the control board 51. With this configuration, the cable 51c and the connector 51d are arranged so that they are along the direction of the air blown by the fan 60, so that air pressure loss can be suppressed and air stagnation can be suppressed.

Referring to FIG. 3, a centrifugal clutch mechanism 61 is provided between the extension 41 of the rotating shaft 40 and the fan 60. The centrifugal clutch mechanism 61 is released when the rotation speed of the rotating shaft 40 reaches or exceeds a predetermined rotation speed (e.g., 10,000 rpm), and the transmission of rotation between the extension 41 and the fan 60 is disconnected. As a result, the fan 60 stops blowing air.

When the rotation speed of the motor 1 increases, the airflow of the fan 60 increases. This increases the turbulence of the air in the power conversion device housing chamber 150, and the air around the coil ends 21, which has a relatively high temperature, is drawn in, causing the temperature of the air in the power conversion device housing chamber 150 to rise. In response to this, by providing a centrifugal clutch mechanism 61, it is possible to suppress the airflow by the fan 60 when the rotation speed is high, thereby suppressing the generation of turbulence in the power conversion device housing chamber 150. Note that the centrifugal clutch mechanism 61 is not necessarily provided.

As described above, the motor 1 includes a rotor 30 having a rotating shaft 40, a stator 20 provided on the outer periphery of the rotor 30, a power conversion device 50 that exchanges power with the stator 20, and a cylindrical housing 10 that accommodates the rotor 30, the stator 20, and the power conversion device 50. The rotating shaft 40 has an extension portion 41 formed by extending axially from the axial end of the rotor 30. The power conversion device 50 is disposed axially outward from the axial end of the stator 20 and is formed to surround the periphery of the extension portion 41. The housing 10 includes a refrigerant flow path (first refrigerant flow path 11) that surrounds the power conversion device 50, and the extension portion 41 includes a fan 60 that is disposed between the power conversion device 50 and the end of the stator 20 and rotates with the rotation of the rotating shaft 40 to blow air radially outward.

With this configuration, the fan 60 blows air radially outward between the power conversion device 50 and the stator 20, making it difficult for heat from the stator 20 (particularly the coil end 21) to be transferred to the power conversion device 50, and making the air temperature inside the power conversion device housing chamber 150 in which the power conversion device 50 is housed uniform. Furthermore, the air blown by the fan 60 is directed toward the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10, so that heat exchange occurs with the refrigerant flowing through the first refrigerant flow path 11 of the housing 10, and the rise in the temperature of the air inside the housing 10 is suppressed, so that the power conversion device 50 can be cooled efficiently.

In this embodiment, the step 14 is used to change the direction of the airflow from the fan 60 to the outside in the axial direction, but the step 14 does not necessarily have to be provided. When the airflow from the fan 60 collides with the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10, part of it flows in the axial direction (left side in FIG. 3) and the other part flows outward in the axial direction (right side in FIG. 3). The air that flows inward in the axial direction collides with the axial end of the stator 20 and changes its direction to the outside in the axial direction. Therefore, even if the step 14 is not provided, in other words, even if the enlarged diameter portion 150a is not provided and the inner diameter of the housing 10 is the same as the outer diameter of the stator 20 in the power conversion device accommodation chamber 150, the airflow from the fan 60 changes its direction to the outside in the axial direction and flows along the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10.

In addition, in this embodiment, the inner wall of the housing 10 has an expanded diameter portion 150a that is expanded in the axial direction toward the outer diameter side of the inner wall, axially outside the axial end of the stator 20, and a step portion 14 is formed between the inner wall and the expanded diameter portion 150a at the location where the stator 20 is fixed.

With this configuration, the air blown by the fan 60 is redirected axially outward by the step 14 on the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10, making it easier for the air to flow axially outward along the inner peripheral wall of the power conversion device housing chamber 150.

In addition, in this embodiment, the coil end 21 is provided at the axial end of the stator 20 and protrudes axially outward, and the step portion 14 is positioned axially between the axial end of the stator 20 and the axial end of the coil end 21.

This configuration increases the area where the air blown by the fan 60 collides with the inner wall of the housing 10, suppressing the generation of turbulence and preventing air from being drawn into high-temperature parts such as the coil ends 21 of the stator 20 and being sent to the power conversion device 50.

In addition, in this embodiment, the housing 10 has fins 18 that stand upright inward from the inner circumferential wall at a position surrounding the power conversion device 50, and the fins 18 extend in the axial direction.

This configuration increases the contact area between the air flowing along the inner wall of the housing 10 and the first refrigerant flow path 11, further facilitating cooling of the air.

In addition, in this embodiment, the power conversion device 50 includes a control board 51, a power module 52, and a smoothing capacitor 53. The control board 51, the power module 52, and the smoothing capacitor 53 are arranged in a stacked manner from the axial end side of the stator 20, and the control board 51 is mounted so that the rising height increases from the radial inner side toward the radial outer side on the surface of the control board 51 facing the stator 20.

This configuration allows the fan 60 to blow air between the power conversion device 50 and the stator 20 without being impeded by the electrical components 51a, 51b, reducing air pressure loss and preventing air from stagnating.

In addition, in this embodiment, a cable 51c is connected to the control board 51, and the cable 51c is routed along the surface of the control board 51 from the radially inner side to the radially outer side.

With this configuration, the cable 51c is positioned along the direction of the airflow from the fan 60, which reduces air pressure loss and prevents air from stagnating.

In addition, in this embodiment, the fan 60 is configured to blow air radially outward, toward the stator 20 side, beyond the axial position where the fan 60 is provided.

This configuration makes it easier for the air blown by the fan 60 to come into contact with the step portion 14 on the inner wall of the housing 10, suppressing the generation of turbulence on the inner wall of the housing 10 and making it easier to change direction axially outward.

In addition, in this embodiment, the fan 60 is fixed to the extension portion 41 via a centrifugal clutch mechanism 61, and the centrifugal clutch mechanism 61 cuts off the transmission of rotation from the extension portion 41 to the fan 60 when the rotation speed of the rotating shaft 40 reaches or exceeds a predetermined rotation speed.

This configuration suppresses the blowing of air by the fan 60 when the rotation speed of the rotating shaft 40 is high, thereby preventing increased turbulence within the power conversion device housing chamber 150.

Next, we will explain a variation of this embodiment.

Figure 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the power conversion device 50 of the motor 1 of a modified example of this embodiment.

The modified example shown in FIG. 4 is characterized in that it has a standing portion 15a formed by an annular member 15 instead of the step portion 14.

In the power conversion device accommodating chamber 150, a groove 10a is formed in the circumferential direction on the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10. An annular member 15 is fitted into the groove 10a. With this configuration, an upright portion 15a (first upright portion) is formed in which the annular member 15 stands on the inner diameter side from the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10.

The rising portion 15a is disposed on the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10 at a position axially outward of the axial end of the stator 20 and axially inward of the axial end of the coil end 21, similar to the step portion 14 described above in FIG. 3.

In this way, even by forming the upright portion 15a by the groove portion 10a and the annular member 15 without forming the enlarged diameter portion 150a on the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10, the air blown by the fan 60 and colliding with the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10 is redirected axially outward by the upright portion 15a and flows axially outward along the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10.

In this manner, in a modified version of this embodiment, a groove 10a is formed in the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10 axially outward from the axial end of the stator 20 along the circumferential direction, and an annular member 15 is fitted into the groove 10a to form an upright portion 15a (first upright portion) that stands up from the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10 toward the inner diameter side, so that the air blown by the fan 60 can be redirected axially outward by the upright portion 15a.

Figure 5 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the power conversion device 50 of the motor 1 in another modified example of this embodiment.

In the motor 1 shown in FIG. 5, a step portion 14a is formed on the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10 between the portion where the stator 20 is fixed and the expanded diameter portion 150a. The step portion 14a is formed at an incline so that the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10 expands radially outward as it moves axially outward. This incline is formed at an obtuse angle of 90 degrees or more with respect to the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10.

By forming the step portion 14a inclined relative to the inner peripheral wall in this manner, the air blown from the fan 60 can be more easily redirected axially outward by the step portion 14a. This reduces the occurrence of air pressure loss and turbulence compared to the step portion 14 shown in FIG. 3 described above, and further promotes cooling of the power conversion device 50.

In this manner, in the modified embodiment, the step portion 14a is formed with an incline so that it expands radially outward as it moves axially outward. Therefore, the inclined step portion 14a allows the air blown from the fan 60 to be more easily redirected axially outward while reducing air pressure loss and the occurrence of turbulence.

Figure 6 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the power conversion device 50 of the motor 1 in yet another modified example of this embodiment.

The motor 1 shown in FIG. 6 is a modified example of the configuration shown in FIG. 4, in which the inner surface of the rising portion 16a (first rising portion) formed by the annular member 16 fitted into the groove portion 10a of the inner wall of the power conversion device storage chamber 150 is configured as an inclined portion 16b that inclines so as to expand radially outward as it moves axially outward. The inclined portion 16b is formed at an obtuse angle of 90 degrees or more with respect to the inner wall of the housing 10.

By forming the inclined portion 16b formed by the annular member 16 at an incline relative to the inner peripheral wall in this manner, the air blown from the fan 60 can be more easily redirected axially outward, as in the modified example shown in FIG. 5. This reduces the occurrence of air pressure loss and turbulence compared to the upright portion 15a shown in FIG. 4, and further promotes cooling of the power conversion device 50.

Figure 7 is an enlarged cross-sectional view of the power conversion device 50 of the motor 1 in yet another modified example of this embodiment.

The motor 1 shown in FIG. 7 is a modified example of the configuration shown in FIG. 3, and includes a groove 10b and an annular member 17 fitted into the groove 10b at a position between the control board 51 and the power module 52 in the axial direction in the expanded diameter portion 150a of the power conversion device housing chamber 150. The annular member 17 is configured as an upright portion 17a (second upright portion) that stands on the inner peripheral wall of the power conversion device housing chamber 150, and has an inclined portion 17b that is inclined at an obtuse angle so that the diameter decreases radially inward as it moves axially outward.

By providing an inclined portion 17b at a position between the control board 51 and the power module 52 on the inner peripheral wall of the housing 10, a portion of the air flowing axially along the inner peripheral wall of the power conversion device accommodating chamber 150 can be circulated between the control board 51 and the power module 52. This allows the air to actively flow over the surface of the cooler 52a of the power module 52, further facilitating the cooling of the power module 52.

In this manner, in the modified embodiment, the inner wall of the housing 10, facing the power module 52, has a second rising portion (rising portion 17a) rising from the inner wall toward the inner diameter side, and rising portion 17a has an inclined portion 17b whose rising height increases toward the axially outward direction, so that a portion of the air flowing axially along the inner wall of the housing 10 can be circulated toward the power module 52.

The configuration shown in FIG. 7 has a step portion 14 similar to that shown in FIG. 3, but is not limited to this. Instead of the step portion 14, a configuration having a standing portion 15a (FIG. 4), a configuration having an inclined step portion 14a (FIG. 5), or a configuration having a standing portion 16a with an inclined portion 16b (FIG. 6) may be provided with a standing portion 17a and an inclined portion 17b.

Although the embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the above embodiments merely show some of the application examples of the present invention, and are not intended to limit the technical scope of the present invention to the specific configurations of the above embodiments.
