実施例1−形状成形可能な装置−組み立て
図1を参照して、3つの形状成形可能な装置100を以下のように組み立てた。マサチューセッツ州フレイミングハムのStaples、Inc.から入手した11.43cm(4.5インチ)×11.43cm(4.5インチ)×9.7E−2cm(3.8E−3in)20ポンド紙の20枚のロック用シート110を、ロック用シート110の中実領域132と開口領域134を互いに整列させた状態で、互いに重ね合わせ積層して配置した。20枚のシートの各々は、図15に示されて説明された設計に合うようにパターン化された。次いで、20枚のロック用シート110の積層体をオハイオ州ウィックリフのLubrizol Corp.から入手した1.27E−2cm(5.0E−3インチ)の厚さのポリウレタン包被102の中に配置して、カリフォルニア州のAmerican International Electric of City of Industryから入手したAIE−100T Impulse Hand Sealerによって密封した。密封する前に、ポート115をポリウレタン包被102に挿入した。
実施例1で組み立てられた6台の形状成形可能な装置100は、成形可能な(ロック解除された)状態及び剛性の(ロックされた)状態の間、その有効引張、曲げ及び押込み弾性率を決定するために3回の試験にかけられた。形状成形可能な装置100は、以下の試験手順により特徴付けられた。
有効引張弾性率
有効引張弾性率は、形状成形可能な装置100をフロリダ州ラーゴのAmetek Measurement&Calibration Technologies(旧Lloyd Instruments)から入手したLF Plus Digital Material Testerに載置することによって測定した。フロリダ州ラーゴのAmetek Measurement&Calibration Technologies(旧Lloyd Instruments)から入手したゴム面の手動操作万力グリップを用いて、形状成形可能な装置100の2つの対向する端部をLF Plus Digital Material Testerにクランプした。3台の成形できる状態にある(ロック解除された)形状成形装置100の各々を3回試験し、伸長距離当たりの印加された力(N/mm)の平均値を記録した。3台の剛性状態にある(ロックされた)形状成形可能な装置100の各々を3回試験し、伸長距離当たりの印加された力(N/mm)の平均値を測定張力Tmeasuredとして記録した。
有効曲げ弾性率の測定は、フロリダ州ラーゴのAmetek Measurement&Calibration Technologies(旧Lloyd Instruments)から入手したゴム面の手動操作万力グリップを用いて、形状成形可能な装置100の1つの端部をクランプすることによって実施した。形状成形可能な装置100の他端は真下に向けられ(重力に合わせて)、バインダクリップでクランプされた。バインダクリップは、カリフォルニア州アーバインのShimano Corp.から入手した釣り糸からなるケーブルにプーリを介して取り付けられ、バインダクリップを重力に直交させて引っ張り、フロリダ州ラーゴのAmetek Measurement&Calibration Technologies(旧Lloyd Instruments)から入手したLF Plus Digital Material Testerに取り付けて、撓み距離xを測定した。3台の成形できる状態にある(ロック解除された)形状成形可能な装置100の各々を3回試験し、曲げ(又は撓み)距離当たりの印加された力(N/mm)の平均値を記録した。3台の剛性状態にある(ロックされた)形状成形可能な装置100の各々を3回試験し、曲げ(又は撓み)距離当たりの印加された力(N/mm)の平均値を測定曲げBmeasuredとして記録した。
押込み剛性は、形状成形可能な装置100をリング支持構造体上に置くことによって行われた。形状成形可能な装置100は、リング支持構造体の表面を自由に摺動することができた。リング支持構造体の内径は2.40インチ(6.10cm)であった。フロリダ州ラーゴのAmetek Measurement&Calibration Technologies(旧Lloyd Instruments)から入手したLF Plus Digital Material Testerを用いて、形状成形可能な装置100の中心を押し付けるか、又は窪ませた。装置に押し付けられた先端の直径は0.63インチ(1.60cm)であった。3台の成形できる状態にある(ロック解除された)形状成形可能な装置100の各々を3回試験し、押込み距離当たりの押込み力(N/mm)の平均値を記録した。3台の剛性状態にある(ロックされた)形状成形可能な装置100の各々を3回試験し、伸長距離当たりの印加された力(N/mm)の平均値を記録した。
6組のロック用シートを以下の特性で組み立てた。(1)20枚のパターン化されていない紙シートの積層体、(2)レーザーカッター(アリゾナ州スコッツデールのUniversal Laser Systemから入手可能なモデル番号ILS9.75)を用いて図15のパターンで切断した20枚の紙の積層体、(3)パターン化されていない厚さ0.005インチのアニールされたアルミニウムの1枚シート、(4)図15に示すパターンを用いてウォータージェット切断によってパターン化された0.005インチ厚さのアニールされたアルミニウムの1シート、(5)厚さ1/16インチの2枚のパターン化されていないデルリンのシート、及び(6)図15のパターンで切断した1/16インチのデルリンの2枚のシート。実施例2の手順に従って、6組のシート全ての有効引張弾性率を試験した。この試験の結果を以下の表2にまとめた。
Claims (20)
- 形状成形可能な装置であって、
前記装置を所望の形状に形成することができるように、前記装置が成形可能な第1の状態と、
前記装置が前記所望の形状を有し、前記第1の状態よりも実質的に、より成形しにくい第2の状態と、
チャンバを画定する包被であって、ガス不透過性材料で形成された包被と、
前記チャンバを周囲と流体連通するように配置されたポートと、
少なくとも部分的に重なり合う構成で前記チャンバ内に配置された少なくとも2枚のロック用シートと、を備え、各ロック用シートは、主表面を含み、各ロック用シートの少なくとも一部分は、中実領域及び開口領域を含むようにパターン化され、前記中実領域は、前記主表面内で互いに対して移動可能である、装置。 - 前記中実領域は、第1の位置から、塑性変形なしに、印加された力が除去された後に、維持され得る第2の位置まで、前記主表面内で互いに対して移動可能である、請求項1に記載の装置。
- 少なくとも1枚のロック用シートの前記中実領域は、有効引張弾性率(E0)を有する材料で形成され、前記中実領域及び開口領域は、前記少なくとも1枚のロック用シートが全体的な有効引張弾性率(E1)を有するように、前記少なくとも1枚のロック用シート内に配置され、前記少なくとも1枚のロック用シートのE0/E1の比は少なくとも2である、請求項1又は2に記載の装置。
- 前記少なくとも1枚のロック用シートに関するE0/E1の比が、各ロック用シートの前記主表面内の任意の方向で少なくとも2である、請求項3に記載の装置。
- 前記少なくとも1枚のロック用シートに関するE0/E1の比が、少なくとも10である、請求項3又は4に記載の装置。
- 少なくとも1枚のロック用シートの前記中実領域が、第1の有効引張弾性率(E0)を有する材料で形成され、前記装置が前記第1の状態にあるとき、前記装置は全体的な有効引張弾性率(Ea)を有し、E0/Eaの比は少なくとも2である、請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 前記少なくとも2枚のロック用シートは、互いに対して実質的に平行に向いた、請求項1から6のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 前記装置は、前記第1の状態のときに第1の有効引張弾性率(EUL)と、前記第2の状態のときに第2の有効引張弾性率(EL)とを有し、前記第2の弾性率の前記第1の弾性率に対する比(EL/EUL)は少なくとも2である、請求項1から7のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
- 前記装置は、前記第1の状態のときに、ゼロでないガウス曲率を有する複雑な表面に実質的に適合するように構成されている、請求項1から8のいずれか一項に記載の装置。
