Abstract
Description
Embodiments described herein relate generally to a correction amount determination method, an inkjet head, and a printing apparatus.
2. Description of the Related Art A so-called shared wall head type line-type ink jet head using a partition between ink chambers adjacent to each other as an actuator is known. This type of ink jet head ejects ink droplets from nozzles formed in communication with each of the ink chambers due to pressure changes in each of the plurality of ink chambers.
By the way, the ink chamber is formed with high density by fine processing. For this reason, it is difficult to form a plurality of ink chambers completely and uniformly, and variations in the volume of ink droplets in the ink chambers occur due to volume variations.
Such a variation in the discharge capability leads to a variation in the density of each dot, resulting in a reduction in the image quality of the image to be printed. In view of this, correction processing is performed to make the ejection amount of ink droplets uniform for each nozzle, and various methods have been proposed.
However, in these known techniques, since the correction amount is calculated based on the ejection characteristics for each nozzle measured by actually operating the head, the processing is very time-consuming.
The problem to be solved by the present invention is to provide a correction amount determination method, an ink jet head, and a printing apparatus that can reduce the effort required to calculate the correction amount.

The time Tt is a time required for one ejection of ink droplets. The time Tt includes a preparation section time T1, a discharge section time T2, and a post-processing section time T3. Time T1, time T2, and time T3 are set to appropriate values according to conditions such as ink to be used and temperature.
Furthermore, the time T1 includes the time Ta of the stationary section and the time (T1-Ta) of the expanded section. The time T2 includes the time Tb of the maintenance section and the time (T2-Tb) of the restoration section.
The driving pulse signal is first set to 0 volt until time Ta elapses from time t0. In this steady section, the
When the time Ta elapses and the time point t1 is reached, the drive pulse signal is set to a predetermined negative voltage (−Vs). This state continues until time t2 when time T1 has elapsed from time t0. In this enlarged section, the state shown in FIG. 4B is reached, and the pressure in the
The drive pulse signal remains at a negative voltage (−Vs) until time t3 when time Tb elapses from time t2. In this maintenance section, the
At time t3, the drive pulse signal is returned to 0 volts. This state continues until time t4 when the time T2 has elapsed from time t2. In this restoration section, the
At time t4, the drive pulse signal is set to a positive voltage (+ Vs). This state is maintained until time t5 when time T3 has elapsed from time t4. In this post-processing section, the
At time t5, the drive pulse signal is returned to 0 volts. Accordingly, the
Next, gradation printing by the multidrop method will be described. The multi-drop method expresses gradation by changing the density of one dot by changing the number of ink droplets that are ejected to one dot without changing the volume of the ink droplet.
FIG. 6 is a diagram showing a drive pulse signal when performing gradation printing by the multi-drop method.
The drive pulse signal shown in FIG. 6 enables 7 gradation printing, and is used when printing at the maximum density. In order to change the density, the number of reference pulses is changed.
As is apparent from the operation principle described above, the
FIG. 7 is a diagram showing a state of the
In FIG. 7, among the
In this state, the

FIG. 9 is a diagram showing the correction pulse waveform Pb in comparison with the reference pulse waveform Pa shown in FIG.
The correction pulse waveform Pb is different from the reference pulse waveform Pa in the time ratio between the steady section and the expanded section in the preparation section. That is, the drive
By the way, when the reference pulse waveform Pa is applied to the
The timing of the change from the steady section to the enlarged section determines at which timing the ink droplets are ejected while the
In the present embodiment, the time Ta in the reference pulse waveform Pa is set in advance so that ink droplets are ejected at the timing when the pressure in the
Thus, by outputting the drive pulse signal having the correction pulse waveform Pb from the

t=tmin×Vc×Dc
t = tmin × Vc × Dc
As an example, the minimum variable amount is 20 [ns]. The correction value has a data width of 4 bits and 16 levels of 0 to 15. The correction sensitivity is any one of 1, 2, 3, and 4. In this case, when the correction sensitivity is 1, the delay time t is one of 20, 40, 60,..., 300 [ns]. When the correction sensitivity is 2, the delay time t is one of 40, 80, 120,..., 600 [ns]. When the correction sensitivity is 1, the delay time t is one of 60, 120, 180,..., 900 [ns]. When the correction sensitivity is 4, the delay time t is one of 80, 160, 240,..., 1200 [ns].

Next, the setting of the correction value and correction sensitivity used in the above correction will be described.
In order to set the correction value, first, the capacitance of each of the plurality of

At a time point t12 after some time has passed in this state, the
In the state shown in FIG. 11, the measurement voltage output from the
Here, the electrode 4-3 is opposed to the electrodes 4-2 and 4-4 to which the measurement voltage is applied, with the partition walls 16-2 and 16-3 interposed therebetween. Therefore, a capacitor is formed by the electrode 4-2 and the electrode 4-3, and by the electrode 4-3 and the electrode 4-4.
FIG. 13 is an equivalent view of the electric circuit formed in the state shown in FIG.
That is, in the state shown in FIG. 11, an electric circuit as shown in FIG. 13 is equivalently formed. The capacitor C1 shown in FIG. 13 is formed by the electrode 4-2 and the electrode 4-3, and the capacitor C2 is formed by the electrode 4-3 and the electrode 4-4.
Thus, from time t12, a current for charging the capacitors C1 and C2 is generated. The current value of this current changes as shown in FIG. 12, for example, and becomes almost zero when the charging of the capacitors C1 and C2 is completed.
The
Specifically, the product of the calculated average current value and the measurement time T11 is an amount of electricity for charging the capacitors C1 and C2. A value obtained by dividing this quantity of electricity by the voltage value of the output voltage from the amplifier 45 is the total capacitance of the capacitors C1 and C2.
For example, assuming that the average current value I is 5.8 mA, the electric quantity Q = 5.8 [mA] × 1.8 [μsec] = 10.44 [nC] if the measurement time T11 is set to 1.8 μsec. . If the voltage value V of the output voltage from the amplifier 45 is 20 V, the capacitance C = 10.44 [nC] / 20 [V] = 522 [pF].
The
Then, the switches 44-3 and 44-5 corresponding to the electrodes 4-3 and 4-5 adjacent to the electrode 4-4 are set in a state of selecting the
At a time t15 after some time has passed in this state, the
Thus, capacitors are formed by the electrode 4-2 and the electrode 4-3, and by the electrode 4-3 and the electrode 4-4, respectively, as in the case described above. And the electric current which charges these capacitors arises. Therefore, the
The
FIG. 14 shows an example of the list.
(Determination of correction value)
It is known that the capacitance C of one capacitor can be obtained by C = εS / d from the dielectric constant ε, the distance d between the two electrodes, and the area S of the electrode.
Among these, the separation distance d corresponds to the width of the partition wall. The area of the electrode S is proportional to the depth of the
As the partition wall width increases and the depth of the
Thus, the capacitance calculated for each of the
Therefore, a correction value is determined for each of the plurality of
FIG. 15 is a diagram schematically illustrating how correction values are determined.
As described above, there is a relationship between the ejection volume and the capacitance as shown by a solid line in FIG. 15, for example. The concept of correction in the present application is, for example, to obtain a difference Δ1 based on the fact that the capacitance is Ca, and to compensate the difference Δ1 to bring the discharge volume close to the target value.
In the present embodiment, a target value for the discharge volume is determined, and variations in the discharge volume within a certain range including the target value are set as an allowable range and are not subject to correction. In this case, the
The capacitance corresponding to the upper limit of the allowable range is set as the upper limit value, and for the
FIG. 16 is a flowchart of the process of the
In Act1, the
In
