これによれば、A/B=4〜5、C/A=0.7〜0.8であるので、排気ガスを各集合管部内又は各分岐管部の排気下流側の端部内の、仕切部とは反対側に適度に逃がすことができ、排気ガスが各集合管部内又は各分岐管部の排気下流側の端部内の、仕切部側に集中して流通することを確実に抑制することができる。このため、排気ガスが排気浄化装置内の中央部に集中して流通することを抑制することができ、排気ガスの、排気浄化装置内の触媒などへの分散性をより一層向上させるとともに、触媒などの処理担体全体における排気ガスの流速を確実に略均一にすることができる。したがって、排気ガス浄化性能の向上をより一層図ることができる。

以下、A/B、C/A、EM悪化指標、及び4気筒の平均γとの関係について、図7〜図10を参照して詳細に説明する。
1.各セル毎の、排気ガスのピーク流速分布特性に基づいて算出した値を基に、各セル毎の浄化率を推定。
2.排気ガス流量に透過率(1−浄化率)を乗じることにより排気エミッション値を算出して、キャタリスト全体の浄化率を推定。
3.排気ガスをキャタリスト全体に略均一に流通させた場合におけるキャタリスト全体の浄化率に基づいて、排気ガスの流速が不均一である場合におけるEM悪化率を推定。
以上より、本実施形態によれば、2つの集合管部31が、その中央部に配置された直線状の断面形状の仕切板部33を挟んで略対称の位置に配置されかつそれぞれD字状の断面形状に形成されている。そして、このD字状の断面形状が、第1直線部34と、それぞれ該第1直線部34の各端部に接続されかつ互いに略平行に配置された一対の第2直線部35と、該一対の第2直線部35における第1直線部34とは反対側の端部同士を接続する円弧部36とからなる。このため、排気ガスを各集合管部31内の仕切板部33とは反対側に逃がすことができ、排気ガスが各集合管部31内の仕切板部33側に集中して流通することを抑制することができる。したがって、排気ガスがキャタリスト4内の中央部に集中して流通することを抑制することができ、排気ガスの、キャタリスト4内の触媒への分散性を向上させるとともに、触媒全体における排気ガスの流速を略均一にすることができる。よって、排気ガス浄化性能の向上を図ることができる。
上記実施形態では、エンジンを縦置きに配置したが、横置きに配置しても良い。

Claims (5)
- 複数の気筒を、複数の気筒からなる2組の気筒群に分けて、該2組の気筒群毎に当該気筒群の気筒に連通する分岐管部同士を集合させてなる2つの集合管部をテーパー部を介して排気浄化装置に接続した多気筒エンジンの排気装置であって、
上記2つの集合管部は、その中央部に配置された直線状の断面形状の仕切部を挟んで略対称の位置に配置されかつそれぞれD字状の断面形状に形成され、
上記D字状の断面形状は、第1直線部と、それぞれ該第1直線部の各端部に接続されかつ互いに略平行に配置された一対の第2直線部と、該一対の第2直線部における上記第1直線部とは反対側の端部同士を接続する弧部とからなることを特徴とする多気筒エンジンの排気装置。 - 2つの気筒にそれぞれ連通する2つの分岐管部をテーパー部を介して排気浄化装置に接続した多気筒エンジンの排気装置であって、
上記2つの分岐管部における排気下流側の端部は、その中央部に配置された直線状の断面形状の仕切部を挟んで略対称の位置に配置されかつそれぞれD字状の断面形状に形成され、
上記D字状の断面形状は、第1直線部と、それぞれ該第1直線部の各端部に接続されかつ互いに略平行に配置された一対の第2直線部と、該一対の第2直線部における上記第1直線部とは反対側の端部同士を接続する弧部とからなることを特徴とする多気筒エンジンの排気装置。 - 請求項1記載の多気筒エンジンの排気装置において、
上記多気筒エンジンは、4気筒エンジンであり、
上記各気筒群は、排気行程が互いに連続しない2つの気筒からなることを特徴とする多気筒エンジンの排気装置。 - 請求項1〜3のいずれか1つに記載の多気筒エンジンの排気装置において、
上記2つの集合管部又は上記2つの分岐管部における排気下流側の端部は、車両後側に向かって下側に斜めに延び、
上記排気浄化装置は、車両後側に向かって下側に斜めに延びかつ上記2つの集合管部又は上記2つの分岐管部における排気下流側の端部よりも傾きが水平に近くなるように配置され、
上記テーパー部の車両前側の端部には、該テーパー部の内側に凹みかつ排気センサを取り付けるためのセンサ取付部が形成された凹部が形成されていることを特徴とする多気筒エンジンの排気装置。 - 請求項1〜4のいずれか1つに記載の多気筒エンジンの排気装置において、
上記第1直線部の長さをA、上記第2直線部の長さをB、該第1直線部と上記弧部の凸側の端部との距離をCとすると、下記式(1)及び式(2)を満たすことを特徴とする多気筒エンジンの排気装置。
