Description

The present invention relates to the use of a data storage device (memory card) that uses a memory chip called “flash memory” as a storage medium, and more particularly to a method for informing whether data in the data storage device can be stored safely.

示したように、SDカード、マイクロSDカード、UFD(USB Flash Driver)、eMMC(embedded Multi Media Card)、SSD(Solid State Driver)などがある。   The data storage device of the present invention is an example of a data storage device having a flash memory and a host using the same as a data storage device called a “memory card” having a memory chip called “flash memory”. 1 shows. As shown, there are an SD card, a micro SD card, a UFD (USB Flash Driver), an eMMC (embedded Multi Media Card), an SSD (Solid State Driver), and the like.

The memory chip has a low power consumption and a power supply as a semiconductor memory having the advantages of a ROM that stores stored data and the advantage of a RAM that can freely input and output information even when the power supply is cut off. 1 is a non-volatile data storage medium that retains stored information even when the supply of data is cut off, and data can be freely input and output. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 1, an event data recorder, an MP3 player, a smartphone, Widely used in various digital devices (hosts) such as digital televisions, digital video cameras, digital cameras, game consoles, and personal computers.

In such a data storage device having a flash memory, a bad block is generated in response to frequent updating of normal data, and the bad block is replaced with a spare block. Is done.
However, when the occurrence of a bad block exceeds the capacity of the spare block, the memory card is set to write protection and becomes read-only only. That is, if the memory card is used for a long period of time, a problem of data storage failure occurs.

For example, in the case of an SD card (data storage device) installed for storing moving image data in an event data recorder called “vehicle black box”, the user cannot recognize the write-protected state of the SD card. Thus, the SD card in the write-protected state is replaced or continuously used without being initialized.

By continuing to use the write-protected SD card in this way, there is a problem that recording is not performed and necessary data (for example, a moving image file) cannot be used.

Also, when recording of video (data) fails, most users recognize that a problem has occurred in the event data recorder, but in reality, when recording of the video fails mostly due to the write-protected state of the SD card. is there.

Thus, since the user cannot recognize the write prohibition state of the data storage device having the flash memory, there is a fatal problem that the time of replacement or initialization of the data storage device cannot be recognized, This prevents the loss of important data or the achievement of the purpose of using various digital devices (hosts) that utilize data storage devices.

According to the following prior art, a failure memory cell is classified into a read memory cell group, a complementary memory cell group, and a non-complementary memory cell group based on an address, and a first initial termination is performed with reference to the read memory cell group. Determining whether or not a condition is satisfied, and satisfying the second initial termination condition with reference to the read memory cell group and the complementary memory cell group when the first initial termination condition is not satisfied And a step of replacing the failed memory cell with a spare memory block if the second initial termination condition is not satisfied. In this case, the replacement operation is technically characterized by repairing both the failed memory cell constituting the complementary memory cell group and the failed memory cell constituting the corresponding read memory cell group.

However, the above prior art also solves the problem caused by the write inhibit state that occurs when the spare memory block is completely used, that is, when the memory card is in the write inhibit state, by replacing the failed memory cell with a spare memory block. Can not do it.

It is characterized by recognizing the danger of prohibiting writing to a storage device.

In the spare block status information providing step, the spare block status information is the number of hot spare blocks, and an error message is output to the host only when the number of spare blocks is '0'. Technical features.
The spare block state information requesting step is performed when power is applied to the host and the host is initially driven.

The warning step may be performed by any one method of outputting a message through a display window provided in the host, blinking a warning light, or outputting a warning sound.

While referring to the drawings, like reference numerals have been used for like components.

FIG. 2 is a diagram for explaining the basic concept of the write prohibition warning method for the data storage device having the memory chip of the present invention. As shown, the present invention includes a spare block state information request step S10, a spare block state information provision step S20, and a warning step S30 in the data storage device write prohibition warning method.

In other words, the user 30 is warned via the host 10 that the data storage device 20 has a write-protection risk, and the user 30 guides the user to replace or initialize the data storage device 20. When the data storage device 20 is used, a situation in which data storage fails due to the write prohibition state of the data storage device 20 is prevented in advance.

Explaining each of the steps specifically, the spare block state information requesting step S10 is a data storage device 20 installed in the host 10 in the host 10 which is various types of digital devices using the data storage device 20. In order to grasp the status of the spare block, the data storage device 20 is requested for information that can confirm the status of the spare block of the data storage device 20.

That is, the spare block status information request step S10 is performed by issuing an information request command for the status of the spare block to the controller unit of the data storage device 20 at the host 10.

The spare block state information requesting step 10 is preferably performed when the host 10 is initially driven and the host 10 is initially driven.

That is, when the host 10 boots, a command requesting spare block status information is transmitted to the data storage device 20.

The spare block status information providing step S20 is a step of providing the host 10 with spare block status information requested from the host 10, and the controller of the data storage device 20 responds to a request (command) of the host 10. The host 10 is provided with information on the spare block status of the data storage device 20.

The spare block status information defined in the present invention is information on spare blocks calculated by the controller unit of the data storage device 10 as the number of spare blocks at the time of requesting the spare block status information, or the remaining spare blocks compared with the entire spare blocks. It can be a block percentage.

For example, FIG. 3 is a diagram showing a first example of a write prohibition warning method for a data storage device having a memory chip of the present invention. As shown, it is assumed that the spare block status information is the number of spare blocks, and the warning step S30 informs the user 30 of a data storage device when the number of spare blocks is less than the value set by the host 10. Recognize 20 write-protection dangers.

FIG. 4 shows a second example of the write prohibition warning method for the data storage device having the memory chip of the present invention. As shown, when the number of spare blocks is “0”, the user 30 is made aware of the risk of write prohibition of the data storage device 20.

That is, as shown in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4, the host 10 makes a judgment based on the spare block status information received from the data storage device 20 and executes the warning stage S30. The warning stage S30 is executed only when the number of spare blocks is smaller than the value (set value) set by the host 10 or when the number of spare blocks is “0”.

In another method, the spare block status information providing step S20 determines that the spare block status information is the number of spare blocks, and sends an error message to the host 10 only when the number of spare blocks is '0'. Is output.

FIG. 5 is a diagram showing a third example of the write prohibition warning method for the data storage device having the memory chip of the present invention. That is, as shown, if the host 10 requests spare block status information from the data storage device 20, the data storage device 20 determines the number of spare blocks, and if the number of spare blocks is '0', An error message is output S20 to the host 10, and a warning S30 is issued from the host 10 to the user 30. When the number of spare blocks is 1 or more, the method is completed.

In the warning step S30, as shown in FIG. 2, the host 10 refers to the spare block status information input from the data storage device 20, and causes the user 30 to recognize the write prohibition risk of the data storage device 20. The user 30 can recognize the write-protection risk by various methods, but any one method of outputting a message, blinking a warning light, or outputting a warning sound through a display window provided in the host 10. It is desirable to be performed at.
For example, in the warning step S30, a warning message or a status guidance message is output through a display window provided in the host 10, or a warning lamp is provided, and the warning is performed based on the spare block status information of the data storage device 20. Means are provided for blinking the light or outputting a warning sound, through which the warning sound is output so that the user 30 recognizes the replacement time and initialization time of the data storage device 20.

The present invention having the above-described features is an event data recorder (also known as 'black box'), a digital video camera, a digital camera, etc. in which data is frequently written and erased, and video recording for storing moving images. It is more useful when it is a device (host).

Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail using a black box as an embodiment.

FIG. 6 is a diagram showing an example in which the write prohibition warning method for a data storage device having a memory chip according to the present invention is applied to an event data recorder. As shown in the figure, when the black box 100 as a host is driven with the MLC SD card 200 mounted, the black box 100 recognizes the SD card 200 and then the data. Entering the transmission mode and sending ACMD13 command, the SD card judges the number of spare blocks and if it is '1' or more, recording starts according to CMD24 or 25 without error message, and the number of spare blocks is If “0”, an error message is output to the black box 100 to drive the alarm unit 110 provided in the black box 100, and the user 30 is notified of the write-protected state danger message of the SD card 200.

The present invention is not limited to the embodiment described above. Various modifications can be made without departing from the technical scope of the present invention.
