Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a fixing device used in an image forming apparatus such as a printer, a facsimile machine, and a copying machine, and an image forming apparatus including the fixing device.
As a fixing device used in various image forming apparatuses such as a copying machine, a printer, a facsimile, or a composite machine thereof, a fixing device having a thin fixing belt made of a metal base and an elastic rubber layer is known. As described above, by providing the thin fixing belt having a low heat capacity, the energy required for heating the fixing belt can be greatly reduced, and the warm-up time and the first print time can be shortened.
In the fixing device described in Patent Document 1, an endless fixing belt, a pressure roller in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the fixing belt, and an inner peripheral side of the fixing belt are in contact with the pressure roller via the fixing belt. A nip portion is formed between the fixing belt and the pressure roller by the nip forming member.
On the inner peripheral side of the fixing belt, a heat source that is a heating unit that heats the fixing belt in the entire width direction of the sheet by radiant heat is provided. In addition, since the fixing belt can be directly heated by a radiant heat from the heat source, the heat transfer efficiency from the heat source to the fixing belt can be greatly improved. As a result, power consumption can be reduced, and the first print time from the heating standby time can be further shortened.
Further, it is known that guide members for guiding the rotation of the fixing belt are provided so as to be able to come into contact with the inner peripheral surfaces at both ends in the width direction of the fixing belt (Patent Document 2, etc.) Thereby, the fixing belt can be rotated along a predetermined locus.
Further, in order to improve the slidability between the nip forming member and the fixing belt, it is known that a highly smooth sliding sheet that rubs against the inner peripheral surface of the fixing belt is provided on the surface of the nip forming member ( Patent Document 3). Then, by impregnating the sliding sheet with a lubricant such as silicone oil, it is possible to improve the wear resistance and reduce the frictional resistance between the fixing belt and the sliding sheet.
However, the lubricant pushed out from the sliding sheet by being pressurized by the pressure member enters between the inner peripheral surface of the both ends in the width direction of the fixing belt and the guide member due to rotation of the fixing belt, etc. It leaks from both ends in the width direction of the fixing belt over time through the guide member.
When the lubricant leaks in this way, the amount of the lubricant remaining on the sliding sheet becomes insufficient. For this reason, the sliding sheet wears and breaks due to rubbing with the fixing belt over time, or the frictional resistance between the fixing belt and the sliding sheet increases, and the torque for rotating the fixing belt abnormally increases. Problems arise.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and the purpose thereof is that the lubricant impregnated in the sheet member leaks from both end portions in the width direction of the fixing belt, and the lubricating function of the sheet member deteriorates over time. It is an object of the present invention to provide a fixing device capable of suppressing the above and an image forming apparatus including the fixing device.
In order to achieve the above object, a first aspect of the present invention comprises a rotatable endless fixing belt, heating means for heating the fixing belt, a pressure member in contact with the outer peripheral surface of the fixing belt, a base A sheet member impregnated with a lubricant that rubs against the inner peripheral surface of the fixing belt on the surface of the material, and is disposed on the inner peripheral side of the fixing belt and contacts the pressure member through the fixing belt. In the fixing device, comprising: a nip forming member that forms a contact nip portion; and a guide member that is provided so as to be in contact with inner peripheral surfaces of both ends in the width direction of the fixing belt and guides rotation of the fixing belt. The forming member is longer in the fixing belt width direction than the pressure member, and the thickness of the nip forming member is larger at the non-nip portion at both ends of the fixing belt width direction than the nip portion than at the nip portion. Also characterized by being thick It is.
In the conventional fixing device, as shown in FIG. 9, the fixing belt is pressed toward the sheet member of the nip forming member by the pressure member at the nip portion, and the fixing belt and the sheet member come into contact with each other and there is no gap between them. There is no. On the other hand, the fixing belt is not pressurized by the pressure member at the non-nip portion at both ends in the fixing belt width direction from the nip portion. In such a place where no pressure is applied by the pressure member, both ends in the width direction of the fixing belt are guided by the guide member, so that the fixing belt and the sheet member are not in contact with each other and there is a gap between them. there were.
A gap formed between the fixing belt and the sheet member due to the lubricant impregnated in the sheet member being pushed out to both ends in the fixing belt width direction by pressing the sliding sheet by the pressure member in the nip portion. Accumulate. Then, the lubricant accumulated in the gap enters between the inner peripheral surface of the both ends of the fixing belt in the width direction and the guide member by the rotation of the fixing belt, and travels along the guide member in the width direction of the fixing belt. Leaked from both ends.
In the present invention, the thickness of the non-nip portion of the nip forming member is made larger than the thickness of the nip portion, the fixing belt and the sheet member are brought into contact with each other at the non-nip portion, and the fixing belt and the sheet member in the non-nip portion are placed between them. A gap that accumulates the lubricant is not formed. As a result, when the sheet member is pressed by the pressure member at the nip portion, the lubricant pushed out to both ends in the fixing belt width direction from the nip portion can be retained in the sheet member in the non-nip portion. it can. Therefore, the entrance of the lubricant between the inner peripheral surface of the both ends in the width direction of the fixing belt and the guide member, which may be generated by the formation of the gap, is suppressed, and is transmitted along the guide member in the width direction of the fixing belt. Leakage of the lubricant from both ends can be suppressed.
As described above, according to the present invention, there is an excellent effect that the lubricant impregnated in the sheet member can be prevented from leaking from both end portions in the width direction of the fixing belt and the lubrication function of the sheet member being deteriorated over time.

The basic operation of the image forming apparatus having the above configuration is as follows.
When the image forming operation is started, each photoconductor 5 in each of the
The surface of each charged photoconductor 5 is irradiated with laser light from the exposure device 9 to form an electrostatic latent image on the surface of each photoconductor 5. At this time, the image information to be exposed on each photoconductor 5 is single-color image information obtained by separating a desired full-color image into color information of yellow, magenta, cyan, and black. In this way, toner is supplied to each electrostatic latent image formed on each photoconductor 5 by each developing device 7, whereby the electrostatic latent image is visualized (visualized) as a toner image. .
When the image forming operation is started, the secondary
Thereafter, when each color toner image on the photoconductor 5 reaches the primary transfer nip as each photoconductor 5 rotates, the toner image on each photoconductor 5 is generated by the transfer electric field formed in the primary transfer nip. Are sequentially superimposed and transferred onto the
Further, the toner on each photoconductor 5 that could not be transferred to the
In the lower part of the image forming apparatus, the paper feed roller 11 starts to rotate, and the paper P is sent out from the
Thereafter, when the toner image on the
Thereafter, the paper P is conveyed to the fixing
The above description is an image forming operation when a full-color image is formed on a sheet. A single color image can be formed using any one of the four
Here, as is well known, an electrophotographic image forming apparatus outputs a copy image through the following steps. In other words, the electrostatic latent image formed on the photosensitive member, which is a latent image carrier, is subjected to visible image processing with toner, and the toner image is transferred to a recording medium such as recording paper and then fixed, thereby copying the image. Is output.
Examples of the fixing method used in the image forming apparatus include a heat roller fixing method, a belt fixing method, a film fixing method, and an electromagnetic induction heating fixing method.
In the heat fixing roller system, a fixing roller and a pressure roller that are in contact with each other with a recording paper conveyance path interposed therebetween are used. In this system, the toner image is melted and penetrated into the recording paper by the action of the heat from the heat source provided in the fixing roller and the pressure corresponding to the pressure applied from the pressure roller. The phenomenon that the toner image melts and penetrates the recording paper is the same in the fixing system having the following configuration.
In the belt fixing method, a fixing belt serving as a good heat conductor, a pressure roller, a roller equipped with the belt, and a heating source for the belt are used instead of the fixing roller (for example, Patent Document 4).
In the film fixing method, a fixing belt serving as a good heat conductor, a pressure roller, a roller equipped with the belt, and a heating source for the belt are used instead of the fixing roller (for example, Patent Document 5).
In the electromagnetic induction heating and fixing method, a configuration in which an electromagnetic induction coil that enhances heat generation efficiency is provided on a heating member is used (for example, Patent Document 4).
The fixing system has the following required issues.
It is to reduce the warm-up time, and further to reduce the first print time. The warm-up time is a time required from a normal temperature state to a predetermined printable temperature (reload temperature) such as when the power is turned on. The first print time is a time required from when a print request is received to when a print operation is performed through a print preparation and paper discharge is completed.
In the fixing device, fixing failure may occur for the following reason.
The image forming apparatus is an apparatus that can perform high-speed processing. When the number of fixed sheets per unit time, that is, the number of sheets passing through the fixing device is increased by high-speed processing, the amount of heat supplied to the recording sheet moving at high speed must be increased. This is because the amount of heat necessary for fixing is given to the recording paper as the time for the recording paper to pass through the fixing device becomes shorter.
However, if the amount of heat required at the beginning of continuous printing is not secured, the temperature will drop greatly, and if the paper is passed without reaching the required amount of heat during high-speed continuous printing, there is a possibility that fixing failure will occur. .
In addition, as the speed of image forming apparatuses increases, the number of sheets passed per unit time increases and the required heat quantity increases, so the so-called temperature drop, which is a shortage of heat quantity especially at the beginning of continuous printing, may be a problem. There is a problem that fixing failure occurs when the speed is increased.
On the other hand, in addition to the above-described fixing methods, there is a fixing method called a surf fixing method using a ceramic heater.
The surf fixing method uses a configuration in which only the nip portion is locally heated and the other portions are not heated. In this fixing method, since the heat capacity and the size can be reduced as compared with the belt-type fixing device, it is possible to rise to a predetermined temperature and shorten the first print time, but there are the following problems.
In other words, the surf fixing method is not heated in any part other than the local area, so that there is a problem that the fixing belt is in the coldest state at the entrance of the nip sheet and the like, and fixing failure is likely to occur. In particular, in a high-speed machine, there is a problem that a fixing failure is more likely to occur because the fixing belt rotates quickly and the heat radiation of the belt outside the nip increases.
Therefore, in order to deal with such problems, a fixing device has been proposed in which a fixing belt can be used to obtain a good fixing property even if it is mounted on a high-production image forming apparatus. For example, Patent Document 6).
In the fixing device disclosed in Patent Document 6, the configuration shown in FIG. 3 is used.
The fixing
The fixing
However, in order to further save energy and improve the first print time, it is necessary to further improve the thermal efficiency.
Therefore, in the fixing
Next, the configuration of the fixing
The fixing
Inside the fixing
The fixing
The fixing
The fixing
The
At the place where the
The
In the present embodiment, the
By providing an elastic layer having a thickness of 100 [μm] or more, minute irregularities can be absorbed by elastic deformation of the elastic layer, so that occurrence of uneven gloss can be avoided. The
Both ends of the
The
The
In this way, by supporting the
The
The
A general heat resistant resin can be used for the
A sliding
The sliding
The sliding
Other lubricants include fluorine-based and silicon-based grease. As for the lubricant, not only one type of lubricant is applied to the entire sliding
The
Specifically, a crystalline thermoplastic used for liquid crystal polymer (LCP) or the like, for example, a molded product such as an aramid fiber is used. Further, in place of the resin, a material capable of maintaining the shape such as metal or ceramics may be used.
The reflecting
Here, since the reflecting
Further, without providing the

The fixing
Specifically, the fixing
In the present embodiment, in FIG. 4, nothing is interposed between the left portion of the fixing
In order to reduce the heat capacity of the fixing
Specifically, the thicknesses of the base material, the elastic layer, and the release layer constituting the fixing
In this embodiment, the diameter of the

FIG. 5A is a perspective view of the fixing
5A to 5C show only the configuration of one end of the fixing
As shown in FIG. 5A and FIG. 5B, a
As shown in FIG. 5C, the
As shown in FIGS. 5A and 5B, a protective member that protects the widthwise end portion of the fixing
Since the detent guide portion of the fixing
Further, the
As a material of the
Further, the
Although not shown in the drawings, shielding members that shield heat from the
In this embodiment, only the
Hereinafter, the basic operation of the fixing
When the power switch of the printer main body is turned on, power is supplied to the
Thereafter, the paper P carrying the unfixed toner image T in the image forming process described above is conveyed in the direction of the arrow F1 in FIG. 4 while being guided by a guide plate (not shown), and the fixing
The paper P on which the toner image T is fixed is carried out from the nip portion N in the direction of arrow F2 in FIG. At this time, the paper P is separated from the fixing
Further, without providing the reflecting
However, the shape and material of the
Here, a problem that may occur in the conventional fixing device will be described with reference to FIG.
In the fixing device having the conventional configuration shown in FIG. 9, there is a gap between the fixing
The reason why this gap occurs is as follows. In the nip portion N, there is no gap between the fixing
That is, at the nip portion N, the fixing
On the other hand, in the non-nip portion, the fixing
Therefore, when the sliding
The accumulated lubricant has leaked from both end portions in the width direction of the fixing
Next, features of the fixing
[Configuration example 1]
FIG. 1 shows a fixing
As can be seen from FIG. 1, in the fixing
In this configuration example, as shown in FIG. 1, the sliding
As described above, the lubricant is accumulated at both ends in the width direction of the fixing
[Configuration example 2]
6 shows a fixing
In this configuration example, as shown in FIG. 6, the shape of the
Therefore, without causing a gap between the inner surface of the fixing
[Configuration example 3]
7 shows a fixing
In the present configuration example, as shown in FIG. 7, the sliding
The sliding sheet 29a in the nip portion N in the fixing belt width direction and the sliding
In the case where the sliding sheet 29a and the sliding
In other words, satisfying the relationship of “the lubricant holding ability of the sliding
Since the fixing
In addition, as the material used for the sliding
[Configuration Example 4]
FIG. 8 shows a fixing
In the present configuration example, as shown in FIG. 8, the non-nip portion at both ends in the fixing belt width direction from the nip portion N is the surface opposite to the surface that contacts the fixing
That is, a sliding
In FIG. 8, a sliding
When the sliding
