Abstract
【解決手段】第一の基板4と、第二の基板5とを備え、第一の基板4と第二の基板5との間には、電位を制御可能としたX電極6(第一の電極)と、この第一の電極と異なる電位に制御可能としたY電極7(第二の電極)と、帯電体8とを配置し、かつ、帯電した光調整粒子10と分散媒11とを含む懸濁液9を封入した構成を有する懸濁粒子装置1において、光調整粒子10を帯電体8の周りに集積可能とする機能を有する。

Description
本実施例の理解を容易にするため、本発明者が検討した懸濁粒子装置の基本構造などについて説明する。
図3は、懸濁粒子装置1を備えた調光装置の構成を示すブロック図である。
図4A〜4Cは、図2に示す懸濁粒子装置の駆動状態における光調整粒子10の分布を示したものである。図4Aは、透過保持状態であり、図4Bは、遮光状態(低透過の調光状態)であり、図4Cは、高透過の調光状態である。また、図8は、基準電位をG.N.Dとしたときの透過保持状態から遮光状態を経て高透過の調光状態に変化させる駆動波形を示したものである。
図5、図6及び図7A〜7Cは、Y電極7の幅を帯電体8の幅と等しくした場合について示したものである。
図30及び31は、図1の懸濁粒子装置の第二の板状部材の変形例を示す上面図である。
また、隔壁25は、フォトリソグラフィ又はスクリーン印刷で形成したり、打抜き等により所定の形状の開口部を有する樹脂フィルムを配置したり、エネルギー線硬化可能な高分子媒体と光重合開始剤を含む分散媒11とし、隔壁形成部分以外を遮蔽してエネルギー線を選択的に懸濁液9に照射して硬化することで形成される。
図21は、本発明者が検討した懸濁粒子装置1の分解斜視図である。図22Aは、組み立て後の懸濁粒子装置であって、図21の切断線F−F’を含むx−z平面の断面図である。図22Bは、図21の一点鎖線Gで囲まれた部分を第一の板状部材2側から見たx−y平面図である。
次に、本実施例の駆動方法について説明する。
図27は、本発明者が検討した懸濁粒子装置1の分解斜視図である。図28は、組み立て後の懸濁粒子装置であって、図27に示す切断線H−H’を含むy−z平面の断面図である。
図29A及び29Bは、本実施例の懸濁粒子装置1の光調整粒子の挙動を示す断面図である。図29Aは高遮光状態を示したものであり、図29Bは偏光状態を示したものである。
Claims (22)
- 第一の基板と、第二の基板とを備え、前記第一の基板と前記第二の基板との間には、電位を制御可能とした第一の電極と、この第一の電極と異なる電位に制御可能とした第二の電極と、帯電体とを配置し、かつ、帯電した光調整粒子と分散媒とを含む懸濁液を封入した構成を有する懸濁粒子装置であって、前記光調整粒子を前記帯電体の周りに集積可能とする機能を有することを特徴とする懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第一の基板の表面には前記第一の電極を設け、前記第二の基板の表面には前記第二の電極及び前記帯電体を設けたことを特徴とする請求項1記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第一の基板と前記第二の基板との間には、さらに、前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極と異なる電位に制御可能とした第三の電極を配置したことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第三の電極は、前記第二の基板の表面に配置したことを特徴とする請求項3記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極の少なくともいずれかに交流電圧が印加されることにより前記光調整粒子の配向状態を制御可能とし、前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極の少なくともいずれかに直流電圧が印加されることにより前記光調整粒子を前記懸濁液中に分散可能とする機能を有することを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第一の電極、前記第二の電極及び前記第三の電極の少なくともいずれかに交流電圧が印加されることにより前記光調整粒子の配向状態を制御可能とし、前記第一の電極、前記第二の電極及び前記第三の電極の少なくともいずれかに直流電圧が印加されることにより前記光調整粒子を前記懸濁液中に分散可能とする機能を有することを特徴とする請求項3又は4に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極は、光を透過することを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第三の電極は、光を透過することを特徴とする請求項3又は4に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記帯電体の面積は、前記第二の電極より小さいことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記帯電体の面積は、前記第三の電極より小さいことを特徴とする請求項3又は4に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第二の電極及び前記帯電体は、ストライプ状に配置したことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第二の電極及び前記第三の電極は、ストライプ状に配置したことを特徴とする請求項3又は4に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第二の電極と前記第三の電極との間に交流電圧を印加することにより前記光調整粒子の配向状態を制御する機能を有することを特徴とする請求項4記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記第二の電極と前記第三の電極との間に交流電圧を印加することにより前記懸濁液に入射する光を偏光させる機能を有することを特徴とする請求項4記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記帯電体の前記懸濁液に接する面の極性は、前記光調整粒子の極性と逆であることを特徴とする請求項1〜14のいずれか一項に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記帯電体は、エレクトレット又は強誘電体で形成されていることを特徴とする請求項1〜15のいずれか一項に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記光調整粒子は、光学的異方性を有し、かつ、棒状であるポリ過ヨウ化物、炭素系材料、金属材料及び無機化合物の群から選択される一種類以上で形成され、前記光調整粒子のアスペクト比は、5〜30であることを特徴とする請求項1〜16のいずれか一項に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 前記帯電体の表面電位を前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極の電位より大きくすることにより前記光調整粒子を前記帯電体に集積可能とする機能、及び、前記第一の電極の電位を前記第二の電極の電位及び前記帯電体の表面電位より大きくすることにより前記帯電体に集積した前記光調整粒子を前記懸濁液中に分散可能とする機能を有することを特徴とする請求項1〜17のいずれか一項に記載の懸濁粒子装置。
- 請求項1〜18のいずれか一項に記載の懸濁粒子装置と、前記懸濁粒子装置を制御する駆動装置と、を含むことを特徴とする調光装置。
- 第一の基板と、第二の基板とを備え、前記第一の基板と前記第二の基板との間には、電位を制御可能とした第一の電極と、この第一の電極と異なる電位に制御可能とした第二の電極と、帯電体とを配置し、かつ、帯電した光調整粒子と分散媒とを含む懸濁液を封入した構成を有する懸濁粒子装置の駆動方法であって、前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極の少なくともいずれかによって前記懸濁液に交流電圧を印加して、前記光調整粒子の配向状態を制御し、前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極の少なくともいずれかによって前記懸濁液に直流電圧を印加することにより前記光調整粒子を前記懸濁液中に分散する光調整粒子分散工程と、前記光調整粒子を前記帯電体の周りに集積させる光調整粒子集積工程とを含むことを特徴とする懸濁粒子装置の駆動方法。
- 光調整粒子分散工程は、前記第一の電極の電位を前記第二の電極の電位及び前記帯電体の表面電位より大きくする工程であり、前記光調整粒子集積工程は、前記帯電体の表面電位を前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極の電位より大きくする工程であることを特徴とする請求項20記載の懸濁粒子装置の駆動方法。
- 前記光調整粒子が配向状態にあるとき、前記第一の電極及び前記第二の電極の少なくともいずれかに印加される交前記流電圧の平均値は、懸濁液に接する面の表面電位と同じ極性であることを特徴とする請求項20記載の懸濁粒子装置の駆動方法。
