Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a system and method for accurately measuring the pressure and / or flow rate of a filter element at various point locations within a filter housing.
The use of RFID tags is widespread especially in asset management, particularly in inventory management applications. For example, if an RFID tag is used, it is possible to monitor a production line or monitor the movement of a production line, assets, or parts via a supply chain.
To explain this concept more clearly, in a manufacturing company, an RFID tag is attached to each part that enters the manufacturing facility, and the part to which the RFID tag is attached is sent to the manufacturing process and combined with another part under the manufacturing process. Subassembly, and finally finished as a product. Using RFID tags allows manufacturers to track the movement of specific parts throughout the manufacturing process, as well as to identify specific parts including any specific assembly or finished product.
The use of RFID tags is also supported within the pharmaceutical and pharmaceutical industries. The US Food and Drug Administration submitted a report in February 2004 to support the use of RFID tags for labeling and monitoring of drugs, with the aim of adding a pedigree to the drug as well as market and consumer The purpose is to limit the prescription drugs from being mixed in.
Since its introduction, RFID tags have been used in a number of applications, such as identifying filter products and providing information for process control of such products. US Pat. No. 5,674,381 discloses the use of “electronic labels” in combination with filtration devices and replaceable filter assemblies. Specifically, this US patent describes an electronically labeled filter comprising a read / write type memory and an associated filtration device having label responsive reading means. The electronic label counts and stores the actual operating time of the replaceable filter, and the filtering device allows the filter to be used or not to be used based on this real time value. This US patent also states that electronic labels can be used to store identification information regarding replaceable filters.
US Patent Application Publication No. 2005/0205658 discloses a process equipment tracking system. The system includes an RFID tag for use in combination with a process device. An RFID tag is described as being capable of storing “at least one event”. Such events that can be tracked include cleaning dates and batch process dates. This document also describes a personal computer having a database of process devices or an RFID reader that can be connected to the Internet. The process equipment database contains a number of events that can be tracked and can provide information useful in determining "the useful life of a process equipment based on stored data". This document includes the use of this type of system with a variety of process equipment such as valves, pumps, filters, UV lamps.
U.S. Patent Application Publication No. 2004/0256328 describes an apparatus and method for monitoring the integrity of a filtration facility. This document describes the use of a filter storing an on-board memory chip and a communication device in combination with a filter housing. The filter housing is equipped with a communication reader that is directly coupled to the integrity tester (or the communication reader is a handheld reader with its own data storage memory, which becomes a separate integrity tester. May be connected). This document also discloses the use of a set of steps to ensure the integrity of the filtration elements used in a multi-round housing, including the type of filter used, the limitations This includes issuing a processing request (query) for confirming the data value and the manufacturing public data to the storage element.
U.S. Pat. No. 6,936,160 describes a wireless MEMS sensing device for use with a filter element. The wireless MEMS sensing device described in this US patent has at least two different sensors in a single assembly package and is within the housing within the end cap of the filter, preferably for measuring the differential pressure of the fluid. It is possible to monitor the driving status of the car. Related patents also describe that MEMS devices are used to evaluate and estimate filter life.
There are still fields where the benefits are not sufficient even with the improvements obtained by using RFID tags. Applications in such areas include, for example, in-situ filter integrity tests and transmembrane pressure changes where it is extremely useful to monitor pressure at various points in the filter housing in real time. There are many things like filter life monitoring via.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a system and method for accurately measuring the pressure and / or flow rate of a filter element at various point locations within a filter housing that overcomes the shortcomings of conventional systems and methods.
The present system and method for accurately measuring the pressure and / or flow rate of a filter element at various point locations within a filter housing solves the disadvantages of prior systems and methods. According to the first embodiment of the system of the present invention, a sensor capable of measuring a pressure at a specific point position is provided. According to the second embodiment, a difference capable of measuring a differential pressure between two point positions. A pressure sensor is provided, and according to a third embodiment, a gas flow meter is provided that is incorporated into the nose of the filter for directly measuring the flow rate through a point location in the filter. Similarly, a differential pressure sensor or a liquid flow sensor can be incorporated into the TFF module to measure the flow rate of a critical fluid such as a cleaning fluid. Such sensors are combined with a communication device so that pressure measurements can be measured and transmitted during filter use. The system can be configured as a single part integrating the communication device and the pressure sensor together, but can also be composed of separate sensor parts and transmitter parts that communicate with each other, where the transmitter parts can be wired or wireless communications. Can be used. In yet another embodiment, a storage element is added to the system, thus allowing the device to store the pressure value set.
The device can be beneficially used for many applications. For example, the transmembrane pressure in individual filters in multiple filter form can be monitored, improving the reliability and effectiveness of the integrity test, and also allowing the integrity of each filter element to be determined on the fly. . Since the transmembrane pressure in the filter housing can be monitored, clogging of the multilayered filter can be monitored, and thus the filter life can be estimated.
Systems and methods are provided for accurately measuring the pressure and / or flow rate of a filter element at various point locations within a filter housing that overcome the shortcomings of conventional systems and methods.
FIG. 1 illustrates an exemplary filtration system according to the present invention, wherein a
In one embodiment, the
There are many embodiments of the sensor of the present invention, for example, using micromechanical technology, ie, MEMS system (MEMS) technology, piezoelectric elements, conductive or resistive polymers including elastomers and inks, or transducers. It can be configured. Although differential pressure sensors are preferred, the “difference” of interest is between upstream and downstream pressures, so use separate pressure sensors, one on each side of the filter. It is also possible. These examples are illustrative of some of the sensor types that can be used and are not exhaustive of all suitable pressure sensors.
The
In the flow measurement application as shown in FIG. 3, the
FIG. 4 shows a situation where the

As an example, a filter element in which a
In another embodiment, a wireless transmitter and receiver are not used, and the output of the pressure sensor is wired to the outside of the filter housing.
The defined physical structure of the present invention is useful in many applications. Some of these uses are described below, but are not intended to list all such uses.
In one embodiment, the present invention is combined with an in-situ integrity test. This process allows the operator to check the integrity of the filter in the housing filter at the customer site without additional equipment. In particular, a gas, typically air, is pressurized to a predetermined pressure upstream of a liquid-wetted filter stored in a housing without gas leakage. The pressure in the housing decreases with time due to the differential pressure of the gas flow through the filter and possibly convection, and this rate of pressure decrease is used to confirm the integrity of the filter element. In one embodiment as shown in FIG. 3, a differential pressure sensor is preferably positioned within the nose portion of the filter. The differential pressure sensor is preferably combined with an orifice or a venturi, so that the gas flow rate of the filter can be measured using the venturi effect. As described above, it is possible to measure a pressure drop such as 10 cc / min with high accuracy, preferably by positioning the orifice in the nose portion of the
In a multi-round system, multiple pressure sensors are introduced so that the diffusivity of individual filter elements can be determined. Currently, it is difficult to perform an integrity test on a system that uses multiple filters in parallel. In other words, in such a case, since the standard value is doubled by the number of filters in the housing, the error is also doubled, so that the defect detection capability is remarkably reduced, and even if a defect is detected, any filter is detected. Because it is difficult to distinguish between the two, a completeness test for each filter is required. Also, in the preferred bubble point integrity test, which measures gas flow under a wide range of increasing pressures, the filter can be measured individually, but this test protocol is not currently available.
In one embodiment, a plastic filter housing is used, and concentration data can be transmitted through the housing at any time using a wireless transmitter.
According to the present invention, transmembrane pressure can be monitored. Transmembrane pressure monitoring is beneficial in several ways and has several uses. For example, the preferred starting procedure for a microfiltration (MF) filter is not to immediately release the operating pressure to maximum pressure, but to gradually increase it, thereby avoiding air locks in the filter. This will increase the useful life of the filter. In this application, sensors are used in the housing to monitor the pressure in the housing and to optimize the operating pressure gradient. In the preferred embodiment, differential pressure sensors are positioned on the end caps of each filter element to observe upstream and downstream pressures, and in other embodiments, pressure readings are taken through the plastic housing. Via an external wireless receiver.
When the assembly reaches operating pressure, the inner sensor is used to continuously monitor the filter. For example, when the filter is clogged, the flow rate is reduced and the downstream pressure of the filter is considerably reduced, so that the useful life of the filter can be estimated based on the rate of change in transmembrane pressure. If pressure sampling is performed on a continuous basis, abnormal pressure fluctuations that can serve as a basis for estimating the useful life of the filter can be observed.
The procedure described above can also be applied to multiple filter array configurations. In the preferred embodiment, a pressure sensor is secured to the end cap of each filter and measures the pressure upstream and downstream of each filter element. The operator can better understand the function of each filter in the filter housing by the measured pressure value. For example, a pressure drop detected between the upstream side and the downstream side of the filter element typically indicates that the filter element at that location is clogged or that an adherent layer is formed. As explained, the useful life of a filter can be estimated based on the rate of change in transmembrane pressure, and if the pressure across each filter is sampled on a continuous basis, the remaining useful life of a particular filter element can be estimated. Observe abnormal pressure fluctuations that can serve as a basis for estimation.
The present invention can also be used to monitor certain operating parameters such as transmembrane pressure in a tangential flow filtration (TFF) device. Such devices are typically used in multi-filter module configurations. Until now, the pressure drop between the modules of the TFF device has not been monitored. However, it is possible to monitor the pressure drop by introducing a pressure sensor between the modules as shown in FIG. Since the flow rate can be estimated by monitoring the pressure drop between the modules, it is particularly easy to determine whether all the modules are operating as desired during cleaning. The cleaning action is confirmed when the membrane flux of each membrane in each module is restored. In addition, pressure sensors can be used to monitor transmembrane pressure or cross-trench pressure within the membrane stack in the module, so that the flow access to each channel and the flux across the module is uniform. You can even guarantee that there is. Further, if the pressures at various point positions in the housing are monitored, it is possible to check the flow in the housing. Such flow confirmation information can be used to adjust the flow in the channel so that the entire module is guaranteed to be used in a certain manner. Finally, by measuring the gas flow in the outlet port of each module, the integrity of the TFF module as measured by the diffusion test can be determined for each module. The pressure measurement value recorded by the pressure sensor is transmitted to the outside of the filter housing via the transmitter.
