Abstract
【解決手段】ハニカム触媒体は、第1の厚さを有する第1隔壁1aと、その第1の厚さよりも薄い第2の厚さを有する第2隔壁1bの2種の異なる厚さを有する隔壁1によってセル2が形成されており、ハニカム触媒体10の内周部側が、第2隔壁1bで構成され、ハニカム触媒体10の内周部を取り囲む外周部側が、第1隔壁1aで構成され、連通方向に垂直な断面における、第1隔壁1aで構成された第1隔壁領域面積と、第2隔壁1bで構成された第2隔壁領域面積と、の比の第1隔壁領域面積/第2隔壁領域面積が、1〜30であり、第1隔壁1aにおいて、第2隔壁1bよりも多く触媒が担持されている。

図4に実施形態2のハニカム触媒体10を示す。実施形態2のハニカム触媒体10は、連通方向に垂直な断面が円形であり、その半径をRとし、第2隔壁領域は、ハニカム触媒体10の中心軸を中心とし、四角形状として形成されている。このように構成することにより、成形が容易になる。
図5に、実施形態3のハニカム触媒体10を示す。実施形態3のハニカム触媒体10は、連通方向に垂直な断面が卵形であり、第2隔壁領域は、ハニカム触媒体10の内周部に同様に卵形として形成されている。このように構成することにより、温度が中心から均等に伝達する。
焼成後にコージェライトとなるように、タルク、カオリン、アルミナ、シリカ等を所定の配合割合で調合し、バインダー、界面活性剤、水を加え、所定の配合割合で混合して坏土を得た。コージェライト化原料については、粒度、成分等は最終的には気孔率、熱膨脹率に影響するが、適宜、当業者であれば選定することが可能であり、また、バインダー、界面活性剤についても適宜設定することが可能である。得られた坏土を、焼成後に表1に示すセル構造となるように乾燥、焼成段階での収縮率を考慮して、スリット幅を調整した口金を付けた押し出し成形機を用いて押し出し成形を行い、乾燥、焼成後に直径が100mmで長さが120mmの、セル2の形状が略正方形となるハニカム構造体を作製した(図1参照)。触媒として、三元触媒を担持させた。実施例1は、内周部が隔壁1b(薄壁)により形成され、それを取り囲むように外周部が隔壁1a(厚壁)で形成された評価担体である。表1にハニカム構造体(触媒体)の半径R、隔壁1bの半径rを示す(R,rは、長さの比を示す。図3参照)。さらに、表1に、隔壁1aの面積と隔壁1bの面積の比(第1隔壁領域面積/第2隔壁領域面積)、触媒担持前(ハニカム構造体)、担持後(ハニカム触媒体10)のそれぞれの隔壁の厚さ、比も示す。
実施例2〜6、比較例1〜3も表1に示すようなR、rにて作製した。なお、比較例1,2は、すべての隔壁の厚さが均一なハニカム構造体(触媒体)であり、例えば、比較例1の3mil/600cpsiは、隔壁が3mil、セル密度が600cpsiを示す。

- 前記触媒が担持された前記第1隔壁の厚さと前記第2隔壁の厚さの比の第1隔壁の厚さ/第2隔壁の厚さが、1〜2である請求項1または2に記載のハニカム触媒体。
- 前記ハニカム触媒体は、前記連通方向に垂直な断面が円形で、前記第2隔壁領域は、前記ハニカム触媒体の中心軸を中心とする円である請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載のハニカム触媒体。
