Description

The present invention relates to a display device including a viewing angle control device that controls a viewing angle of a display device.

Conventionally, liquid crystal displays (LCDs) have been widely used as displays for portable electronic devices such as mobile phones and PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants). LCDs have been considered to have a narrow viewing angle compared to CRTs (Cathode Ray Tubes), plasma displays, and the like, but with the recent advances in LCD technology, viewing angles have been widened.

However, when the portable electronic device is used in a crowded situation such as in a train or a bus, the content displayed on the display screen of the portable electronic device may be peeped by people around. In particular, when creating and browsing an electronic mail, it is not preferable in terms of privacy that the contents are peeped by people around.

In response to this problem, LCDs that can control the viewing angle have been proposed (see, for example, Patent Documents 1 to 4). In such an LCD, it is possible to switch from one of a normal wide viewing angle mode and a narrow viewing angle mode with a narrow viewing angle to the other. The narrow viewing angle mode is a mode in which a normal display image can be visually recognized from directly in front of the display screen where the user is present, and a plain image or another image can be viewed from an oblique direction.

For example, in the viewing angle variable element described in Patent Document 1, a liquid crystal layer between a pair of substrates has a narrow viewing angle when liquid crystal molecules are aligned in a direction perpendicular to the substrates, and is aligned in a parallel direction. Wide viewing angle. Moreover, the portable terminal device of patent document 2 changes the viewing angle of the information display means by changing the orientation of the liquid crystal between two glass plates.

Furthermore, by dividing the display device into several sections and changing the liquid crystal alignment direction etc. in each section, when the display screen is viewed from a direction other than the front in the narrow viewing angle mode, it is displayed on the display screen. There is also a configuration in which another image different from the image is visible. For example, Patent Document 3 describes a liquid crystal display device in which an alignment film sandwiching a liquid crystal layer is divided into a plurality of regions, and the alignment directions of adjacent regions are different. Patent Document 4 describes a liquid crystal display device in which first liquid crystal cells and second liquid crystal cells having different viewing angle directions are alternately arranged.

Furthermore, the portable terminal device described in Patent Document 2 controls the viewing angle according to the type of application being executed. Thereby, a viewing angle can be automatically changed according to a use condition, and the troublesomeness in which a user determines a viewing angle one by one can be avoided.

In this case, the viewing angle of the display device is controlled to be a narrow viewing angle, and when the sound non-contact transmission means is used, the viewing angle of the display device is controlled to be a wide viewing angle.

According to the above configuration, the control of the viewing angle of the display device is performed based on the usage status of various devices, not based on the usage status of the application. For this reason, the setting of the viewing angle is not performed for each application to be used, but for each device to be used.

In general, a plurality of software such as applications are often used for one piece of hardware such as a device. For example, in the case of a camera-equipped mobile phone, the camera is used for taking pictures and moving pictures, and the numeric keypad is used for inputting a telephone number of a called party, creating an e-mail, registering in a telephone directory, and the like.

Therefore, the viewing angle control device according to the display device of the present invention can execute the viewing angle control automatically performed according to the use situation with a setting smaller than the conventional setting.

It is desirable to control the display device so as to display the information on the viewing angle. The viewing angle control unit 43 controls the viewing angle change unit 56 based on the viewing angle instruction data received from the viewing angle instruction acquisition unit 40 and the viewing angle search unit 42. Specifically, when receiving the viewing angle instruction data for changing the viewing angle state, the viewing angle control unit 43 controls the viewing angle changing unit 56 so as to change the viewing angle state. The viewing angle control unit 43 holds the current viewing angle state. If the viewing angle state of the received viewing angle instruction data is different from the current viewing angle state, the viewing angle instruction data The viewing angle changing unit 56 is controlled so as to change to the state of the viewing angle.

The viewing angle state may be represented by an actual viewing angle, or may be represented by a viewing angle such as a wide, narrow, or medium viewing angle. In the present embodiment, the viewing angle state is represented by a wide viewing angle with a wide viewing angle and a narrow viewing angle with a narrow viewing angle.

しかしながら、本発明はそれに留まるものではなく、視野角の制御機能を有する表示装置を有するものであれば、PHS(Personal Handy-phone System)、PDA、モバイルPC(Personal Computer)、ポータブルDVD(Digital Versatile Disk)などの任意の携帯用電子機器に適用することができる。 For example, in the above embodiment, the case where the present invention is applied to the mobile phone 1 is described. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and any PHS (Personal Handy-phone System), PDA, mobile PC (Personal Computer), or portable DVD (Digital Versatile) can be used as long as it has a display device having a viewing angle control function. It can be applied to any portable electronic device such as Disk). Alternatively, it may be applied to a stationary display.

In the above-described embodiment, there are only two types of viewing angle modes, the wide viewing angle mode and the narrow viewing angle mode. However, more viewing angle modes can be provided. For example, an intermediate viewing angle mode in which the viewing angle is neither wide nor narrow may be provided. This viewing angle mode is suitable when a display screen is viewed by a few persons including the user.

The viewing angle search unit 42 may search for a plurality of viewing angle modes from a plurality of devices in use. Therefore, the priority is set for each device / viewing angle correspondence table 50, and the viewing angle search unit 42 transmits the viewing angle mode information having a higher priority to the viewing angle control unit 43 as viewing angle instruction data. May be.

Moreover, in the said embodiment, when the input button group 8 is operated, it sets so that it may become a narrow viewing angle mode. However, the user may accidentally operate the input button group 8, and it is troublesome for the user to change from the wide viewing angle mode to the narrow viewing angle mode each time. Accordingly, the narrow viewing angle mode may be set when the input button group 8 is operated a predetermined number of times or more in a predetermined period.

Further, in place of the earphone 53 of the sound output unit 14 in the above embodiment or together with the earphone 53, other sound contact transmission means for transmitting sound information by contacting the user such as a headphone or a bone conduction vibrator is used. You can also. In this case, it is desirable that the narrow viewing angle mode be set when the voice contact transmission means is used.

Each block of the mobile phone 1, particularly the control unit 22, may be configured by hardware logic, or may be realized by software using a CPU as follows.

That is, the mobile phone 1 includes a storage device (recording device) such as a CPU that executes instructions of a control program that realizes each function, a ROM that stores the program, a RAM that expands the program, a memory that stores the program and various data, and the like. Medium). An object of the present invention is to provide a recording medium on which a program code (execution format program, intermediate code program, source program) of a control program for the mobile phone 1 which is software for realizing the above-described functions is recorded so as to be readable by a computer. This can also be achieved by supplying the mobile phone 1 and reading and executing the program code recorded on the recording medium by the computer (or CPU or MPU).

Examples of the recording medium include a tape system such as a magnetic tape and a cassette tape, a disk system including a magnetic disk such as a flexible disk / hard disk and an optical disk such as a CD-ROM / MO / MD / DVD / CD-R, and an IC card. A card system such as an optical card (including a memory card) or a semiconductor memory system such as a mask ROM / EPROM / EEPROM / flash ROM can be used.

The mobile phone 1 may be configured to be connectable to a communication network, and the program code may be supplied via the communication network. The communication network is not particularly limited. For example, the Internet, intranet, extranet, LAN, ISDN, VAN, CATV communication network, virtual private network, telephone line network, mobile communication network, satellite communication. A net or the like is available. Also, the transmission medium constituting the communication network is not particularly limited. For example, even in the case of wired such as IEEE 1394, USB, power line carrier, cable TV line, telephone line, ADSL line, etc., infrared rays such as IrDA and remote control, Bluetooth ( (Registered trademark), 802.11 wireless, HDR, mobile phone network, satellite line, terrestrial digital network, and the like can also be used. The present invention can also be realized in the form of a carrier wave or a data signal sequence in which the program code is embodied by electronic transmission.

A viewing angle control device according to the present invention is a viewing angle control device that controls the viewing angle of a display device, and is configured to control the viewing angle of the display device based on the usage status of one or more devices. May be.

Specifically, the viewing angle control device provided in the display device according to the present invention includes a use device detection unit that detects use of the device, and a storage unit that stores a correspondence relationship between the device to be used and the view angle. The viewing angle corresponding to the device whose use is detected by the used device detecting means is searched from the correspondence relationship, and the viewing angle of the display device is based on the viewing angle searched by the viewing angle searching means. A viewing angle control means for controlling the angle may be provided.

Here, the viewing angle may be an actual angle or a viewing angle such as a wide or narrow viewing angle.

Therefore, the viewing angle control device according to the present invention can execute the viewing angle control automatically performed in accordance with the use state with a setting smaller than that in the related art.

It is desirable to control the display device so as to display the information on the viewing angle. In this case, the user can easily determine the viewing angle only by looking at the display screen of the display device, even if the viewing angle automatically changes according to the usage status of various devices.

In addition, as a display form when displaying the viewing angle, display with a character string, display with an icon, display at the upper end, lower end, or corner of the display screen, other images at the center of the display screen Arbitrary display forms such as display and moving image display can be selected.

The above-described effects can also be obtained with a display device that includes a display device whose viewing angle can be changed and a viewing angle control device configured as described above that controls the viewing angle of the display device. This is particularly effective when the display device is portable.

Specific examples in which the viewing angle control device controls the viewing angle of the display device according to the usage status of the device include the following.

That is, when the power source inside the display device such as a battery is used, the viewing angle control device controls the viewing angle of the display device to a narrow viewing angle, and the power source external to the display device such as an AC power source. Is used, the viewing angle of the display device may be controlled to a wide viewing angle.

The display device further includes voice contact transmission means for transmitting voice information to the user by substantially contacting the user, and voice non-contact transmission means for transmitting voice information to the user in a non-contact manner. The viewing angle control device controls the viewing angle of the display device to a narrow viewing angle when the voice contact transmission means is used, and controls the viewing angle of the display device when the voice non-contact transmission means is used. Controlling to a wide viewing angle can be mentioned.

Here, examples of the voice contact transmission means include an earphone, a headphone, and a bone conduction vibrator. These are typically used by one or a few limited people to listen to the voice and are less likely to be heard by others. Therefore, when the voice contact transmission means is used, the display device is expected to be used without being heard by others, so it is desirable to perform display with a narrow viewing angle.

On the other hand, a speaker etc. are mentioned as an example of the said voice non-contact transmission means. The voice output from the speaker is likely to be heard by others. Therefore, when the sound non-contact transmission means is used, the display device is expected to be used so as to be heard by others, and therefore, display may be performed with a wide viewing angle.

The display device further includes input means for receiving user information input, and the viewing angle control device reduces the viewing angle of the display device to a narrow viewing angle when the input means is used. Control.

In addition, the display device according to the reference of the present invention further includes an operation unit that receives a user's operation, and the viewing angle control device has a viewing angle of the display device when the operation unit receives a predetermined operation. It is preferable to control so as to change.

In this case, since the viewing angle of the display device can be changed by the user's operation, it can be changed to the viewing angle desired by the user, and the convenience for the user is improved.

Further, in the display device according to the reference of the present invention, the viewing angle control device includes a viewing angle that is controlled based on a usage state of the device, and a viewing field that is changed by the operation unit receiving a predetermined operation. When the angle is different, it is preferable to notify the user.

In this case, it can be reported to the user that the current viewing angle changed by the user's operation is different from a preset viewing angle corresponding to the usage status of the device. Note that the notification to the user can be executed by any notification method such as an image, sound, or vibration.

A control method of a viewing angle control device according to the reference of the present invention is a control method of a viewing angle control device that controls a viewing angle of a display device, and the control method of the display device is based on the usage status of one or more devices. It is characterized by controlling the viewing angle.

According to the above method, the viewing angle of the display device is controlled based on the usage status of various devices, not based on the usage status of the application. For this reason, the setting of the viewing angle is not performed for each application to be used, but for each device to be used. Therefore, the control method of the viewing angle control device according to the reference of the present invention can execute the control of the viewing angle that is automatically performed according to the use state with fewer settings than in the past.

The viewing angle control device can be executed on a computer by a viewing angle control program. Furthermore, the viewing angle control program can be executed on an arbitrary computer by storing the viewing angle control program in a computer-readable recording medium.
