Description

The present invention relates to a linkage system in which a plurality of image forming apparatuses and a server apparatus are connected via a network so that data communication is possible.

Sharp OSA(Sharp Open
As a technique for linking an image forming apparatus such as an MFP (Multi Function Printer) with existing software on a server device composed of a PC (Personal Computer) to remotely use application functions on the server device from the image forming apparatus, Sharp OSA ( Sharp Open
There are technologies such as Systems Architecture (registered trademark). In Sharp OSA, remote use of application functions is realized by constructing a Web application on a server device and operating the image forming apparatus as a Web browser.

However, unlike conventional desktop application development, Web application development has many difficulties, such as requiring special know-how and many barriers in cooperation with legacy software from the viewpoint of security. Therefore, a method for developing an image forming apparatus cooperation application and the like at low cost by mounting an additional cooperation function on an existing desktop application instead of a Web application is being studied.

Patent Document 1 shows that a desktop application for a personal computer can be activated and used by a remote operation from a portable information terminal device that cannot use a general-purpose OS (Operating System).

In Windows (registered trademark) XP and the like, an application can be activated and used by a user remotely logging in to a remote PC by a remote desktop function. Therefore, by combining these technologies, a desktop application for a personal computer can be used from the operation panel of the image forming apparatus, and the application can identify the user. By this method, it is possible to easily realize a cooperative application with existing software for PC.

When the above-described cooperative application implementation method is adopted, a desktop application for a personal computer is used as it is as an application to be remotely used, but such a desktop application is generally a single computer. In order to control the image forming apparatus for printing processing or the like, it is necessary to sequentially specify the target. However, for a user who uses a desktop application from the operation panel of the image forming apparatus, it is generally considered that the image forming apparatus such as a printer or a scanner to be controlled is his / her own image forming apparatus. An operation that sequentially selects the target image forming apparatus is considered redundant. When using a single application from multiple MFPs, it is possible that the setting value from the last use will remain, and whenever the image forming apparatus that is the remote control source changes, Therefore, it is necessary to reset the image forming apparatus to be used.

In addition, when an application on the server device issues a print request to the image forming apparatus serving as a remote operation source, the image forming apparatus serving as the remote operation source executes print processing in response to a print request from another user. For example, it may not be possible to print immediately. In the prior art, in such a case, it is necessary to manually reselect an image forming apparatus that can perform immediate printing, or to wait for the preceding printing process to end in the remote image forming apparatus.

Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to improve convenience without requiring an operation in which a user sequentially selects and sets an image forming apparatus to be controlled, and an image forming apparatus to be controlled is provided. It is an object of the present invention to provide a linkage system that automatically sets an image forming apparatus that performs immediate printing processing instead when it is not ready for immediate printing.

In the server device, the remote operation source device identification unit identifies a remote operation source device that is an image forming device to be remotely operated among a plurality of image forming devices connected via a network, and the automatic setting unit includes: Based on the identification result, the image forming apparatus used for printing by the application is automatically set as the remote operation source apparatus. As a result, the user who uses the cooperation system does not need to perform operations for sequentially selecting and setting the image forming apparatuses used by the application for printing, and can improve convenience.

Further, in the server device, the alternative image forming device search means uses the print parameter setting values individually possessed by the image forming device in advance when the remote operation source device automatically set by the automatic setting device is not ready for immediate printing. The device setting manager 127 manages the association between the remote operation source device, which is the MFP 100 that uses the application of the server device 120 by remote operation, and the device driver 124 corresponding to the remote operation source device, or sends the device driver 124 to the device driver 124. It is a module that has the function of substituting for parameter setting. In the present embodiment, the device setting manager 127 is mounted as software on the server apparatus 120, but the mounting method is arbitrary.

In addition, the device setting manager 127 is a remote operation source device identification unit that identifies a remote operation source device that is the MFP 100 that remotely uses and uses the application of the server device 120 among the plurality of MFPs 100 connected via the network 140. Also, the user who operates the remote operation source device by operating the remote operation source device remotely, and also uses the automatic setting means for automatically setting the MFP 100 which uses the application by remotely operating the application based on the identification result. And an alternative image forming apparatus search means for searching for an alternative image forming apparatus that performs an immediate printing process instead when the remote operation source apparatus is not ready for immediate printing. I also serve. Here, the state in which immediate printing is possible indicates a state in which printing processing is not performed in the image forming apparatus.

As a method for identifying the remote operation source device by the device setting manager 127, there is a method of performing identification based on the source IP address of the IP packet in the connection operation to the server device 120. In addition, even when a connection is made through a proxy or the like, a method of separately transmitting the message in the form of an HTTP message or the like can be adopted in order to specify the connection source.

Application Program Interface)
A method for automatically setting the MFP 100 to be used by remotely operating an application on the server device 120 is performed by the device setting manager 127 and the application cooperating to specify the device driver 124 and automatically set parameters. The method of doing is mentioned. Also, APIs required for applications and device drivers (
It is preferable to arrange an application program interface) so that automatic setting is performed by application logic. In addition, when it is difficult to modify an existing application, it is configured to detect that a standard dialog is displayed using a specific external program, and to automatically input by simulating key input. You can also.

As a method for the device setting manager 127 to search for an alternative image forming apparatus that performs immediate printing processing instead when the MFP 100 that is the remote operation source apparatus that has been automatically set is not ready for immediate printing, an alternative candidate is used. A method of sequentially inquiring whether or not immediate printing can be performed with respect to the image forming apparatus to be searched. Specifically, first, the device setting manager 127 acquires from the storage unit 122 and updates the print parameter setting values that are stored in advance in the storage unit 122 and that each image forming apparatus connected to the network individually has. At this time, the print parameter setting value does not necessarily need to be stored in advance in the storage unit 122. When the MFP 100 is not ready for immediate printing, the device setting manager 127 receives information from each image forming apparatus via the network. It may be configured to obtain.

Next, the device setting manager 127 calculates the remote operation calculated by a method set in advance based on the conditional expression set in advance by the user who operates the MFP 100 as the remote operation source device and the acquired print parameter setting value. An alternative candidate image forming apparatus, which is an image forming apparatus having a similarity value indicating the degree of similarity with the printing capability of the original apparatus, is selected.

Here, the method of calculating the similarity value is, for example, as follows. An image forming apparatus having the same printing ability (all print parameter setting values are all equal) as MFP 100 that is the remote operation source apparatus is regarded as an image forming apparatus having a capability distance “0”. In addition, for image forming apparatuses that do not have the same setting values as the remote operation source device for each printing parameter setting value and can only set a parameter value that degrades the printing quality, based on the capability distance table for each printing parameter setting value that is set in advance. Thus, the capability distances assigned in advance for the difference in parameter values are cumulatively added to obtain the capability distance of the image forming apparatus. Further, when calculating the similarity value, weighting is set on the assumption that customization is used among the print parameter setting values set in each image forming apparatus. As an example of the weight setting, the capability distance 200 corresponds to whether double-sided printing or single-sided printing is supported, the capability distance 100 corresponds to whether color printing or monochrome printing is possible, and corresponds to either high-quality printing or draft printing. Capability distance 80, 1200 dpi printing or 300 dpi printing can be supported. Capacity distance 50, high quality printing or standard printing can be handled. Capability distance 40, 1200 dpi printing or 600 dpi printing can be supported. An example in which is set as the ability distance 25 can be given. Thus, the capability distance calculated corresponding to each image forming apparatus is a similarity value indicating the similarity to the printing capability of the remote operation source device, and the capability distance is a value close to “0”. The forming apparatus is an image forming apparatus having a high degree of similarity in printing capability with respect to the remote operation source apparatus. Then, the device setting manager 127 selects an image forming apparatus whose capability distance is within a predetermined range as an alternative candidate image forming apparatus.

Next, the device setting manager 127 causes the selected alternative candidate image forming apparatus to transmit an operation status request signal via the NIC 130, and receives an operation status report signal from the alternative candidate image forming apparatus via the NIC 130. Then, the device setting manager 127 determines whether the alternative candidate image forming apparatus that has transmitted the signal is ready for immediate printing based on the received operation status report signal. The alternative candidate image forming apparatus is recognized as the alternative image forming apparatus.

Next, the device setting manager 127 specifies one alternative image forming apparatus when a plurality of alternative image forming apparatuses are recognized. As a technique for identifying one alternative image forming apparatus from a plurality of alternative image forming apparatuses, first, the application of the server apparatus 120 uses a list indicating the names of devices that can individually identify the plurality of alternative image forming apparatuses. The information is displayed on the display unit 104 of the MFP 100 that is the remote operation source device. At this time, the list is preferably displayed on the display unit 104 as a result of sorting in descending order of similarity. Next, a user who operates MFP 100 inputs an instruction to select a desired alternative image forming apparatus through input unit 103 based on the list displayed on display unit 104. The device setting manager 127 identifies one alternative image forming apparatus based on the instruction input from the input unit 103.

As another method for specifying one alternative image forming apparatus, the device setting manager 127 forms an image with the highest similarity (capacity distance is closest to “0”) among the alternative candidate image forming apparatuses. A method of automatically setting the apparatus as one alternative image forming apparatus can be mentioned.

In the above description, the device setting manager 127 first selects an image forming apparatus whose similarity value is within a predetermined range, and then determines whether it is ready for immediate printing and searches for an alternative image forming apparatus. However, after selecting an image forming apparatus that is ready for immediate printing, the alternative image forming apparatus may be specified by determining whether or not the similarity value is within a predetermined range. At this time, it is preferable that the narrowing by the similarity value is performed first in the narrowing by the similarity value and the narrowing by whether or not immediate printing is possible. This is because the image forming apparatus that has been busy while waiting for the user's selection can be changed to a state in which printing can be performed immediately, or vice versa, so that the state of the latest image forming apparatus can be recognized. It is to do.

If an alternative image forming apparatus is set as the image forming apparatus that performs the printing process, it is determined that the alternative image forming apparatus is specified on the display unit 104 of the MFP 100 that is the remote operation source apparatus before the printing process. It is preferable that a confirmation message that can identify the alternative image forming apparatus such as a device name and the like is displayed. Accordingly, the user who operates MFP 100 can identify the alternative image forming apparatus on which the printing process is performed by the message displayed on display unit 104.

The storage unit 122 of the server device 120 stores a general-purpose OS 123 such as Windows (registered trademark). The server device 120 operates based on the general-purpose OS 123. A plurality of various applications 128 are incorporated in the general-purpose OS 123. At this time, in the present embodiment, the various applications 128 are personal computer desktop applications having a GUI. Storage unit 122 stores in advance custom setting values for starting applications corresponding to user information transmitted from MFP 100.

The remote connection driver 121 is incorporated in the server device 120 and controls communication necessary for remote operation in the server device 120. In addition, the CPU 129 comprehensively controls each unit, driver, and the like.

FIG. 3 is a diagram illustrating a basic sequence in the cooperation system 1. 4A to 4C are flowcharts showing an operation flow in the cooperation system 1.

When the user uses the linkage system 1, first, in step s 1, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 performs user authentication with reference to user information based on the authentication program 110 incorporated in the embedded OS 109, and performs appropriate access for the user. Control is performed so that login to the MFP 100 is possible by giving permission to perform authority setting or custom setting. In step s2, CPU 102 of MFP 100 determines whether or not a remote operation start instruction for instructing input unit 103 to start a remote operation is input. If it is determined that a remote operation start instruction has been input, the process proceeds to step s3. If it is determined that a remote operation start instruction has not been input, the process proceeds to step s13.

In step s3, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 controls the remote connection driver 111 to cause the server apparatus 120 to transmit an operation start signal indicating the start of remote operation via the NIC 101, and requests remote login to the server apparatus 120. To do. Here, in the present embodiment, the application 128 of the server device 120 is a desktop application for a personal computer having a GUI. However, when the application of the server device 120 is a Web application, it is directly used instead of the remote login operation. It is comprised so that a web application may be started.

In step a1, CPU 129 of server device 120 receives the operation start signal transmitted by MFP 100 in step s3 via NIC 130, and proceeds to step a2. In step a2, the CPU 129 of the server device 120 controls the remote connection driver 121 to determine whether or not the signal indicates a request for remote login. If the remote connection driver 121 of the server apparatus 120 determines that the signal indicates a request for remote login, the process proceeds to step a3. If the signal is not a signal indicating a request for remote login, the process returns to step a1.

In step a <b> 3, the server device 120 performs a remote login process to the server device 120. Specifically, first, the CPU 129 of the server device 120 controls the device setting manager 127 to identify the remote operation source device that is the MFP 100 that remotely uses and uses the application 128 of the server device 120, and in step a <b> 4. move on. In step a4, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the device setting manager 127 to automatically set the MFP 100 identified in step a3 as a remote operation source apparatus. Therefore, the user who uses the cooperation system 1 does not need an operation for sequentially selecting and setting the MFP 100 used by the application for printing, and the convenience can be improved.

Next, in step a5, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the remote connection driver 121 to cause the MFP 100 to transmit a login completion signal indicating that the remote login has been completed via the NIC 130, and proceeds to step a6. In step a6, the CPU 129 of the server device 120 controls the remote connection driver 121 to control communication necessary for remote operation.

In step s4, CPU 102 of MFP 100 receives the login completion signal transmitted by server apparatus 120 in step a5 via NIC 101, and proceeds to step s5. In step s5, CPU 102 of MFP 100 controls remote connection driver 111 to control communication necessary for remote operation. In this way, the remote control from the MFP 100 allows the general-purpose OS 123 and various applications 128 of the server apparatus 120 to be used, and the process proceeds to step s6.

At this time, in the cooperation system 1, each of the plurality of MFPs 100 connected to the server apparatus 120 can be exclusively used by assigning one of the plurality of applications 128 installed in the server apparatus 120. It is configured. For example, the MFP 100 is configured such that one application among a plurality of applications 128 installed in the server apparatus 120 can be individually activated by multitasking by remote control of the remote connection driver 111. Then, the server apparatus 120 associates the MFP 100 in which the application is individually activated by multitasking as a remote operation source apparatus. Specifically, when the application 128 installed in the server device 120 is a Web application, the MFP 100 assigns one of the plurality of applications 128 installed in the server device 120 by using the concept of a session. The application can be used by remote control exclusively. When the application 128 installed in the server device 120 is a desktop application, a plurality of application processes are executed on the server device 120 or a common module is resident in advance, and a UI is requested in response to a request from the MFP 100. Only necessary modules including parts are loaded.

In step s6, CPU 102 of MFP 100 controls display unit 104 to display the UI screen of application 128 of server device 120. In MFP 100 that can be remotely operated, the UI screen displayed by display means 104 can be operated by input means 103. In step s 7, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 controls the remote connection driver 111 to transmit user information and device identification information of the MFP 100 itself via the NIC 101. In this way, MFP 100 can be used by remotely operating application 128 of server device 120 independently of a plurality of users.

In step a 7, CPU 129 of server device 120 receives user information and device identification information transmitted by MFP 100 in step s 7 via NIC 130. Then, CPU 129 of server device 120 controls device setting manager 127 to identify MFP 100 and the user who operates MFP 100 based on the user information and device identification information. In this manner, server device 120 identifies MFP 100 that performs a remote operation session from among a plurality of MFPs connected to network 140, and identifies a user who operates MFP 100. At this time, the storage unit 122 stores session information of the remote operation session.

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol)またはSOAP(Simple Object Access Protocol)であることが好ましい。
Here, the communication protocol used by the device setting manager 127 is HTTP (
Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (SOAP) or SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) is preferred. When the communication protocol is HTTP or SOAP, the user information transmitted by the MFP 100 in step s7 is as follows. FIG. 5 is a diagram showing an example of an HTTP request message in the HTTP POST format. FIG. 6 is a diagram showing an example of a SOAP request envelope in the SOAP message format.

User information transmitted by MFP 100 is included in an HTTP request message as shown in FIG. 5 when the communication protocol is HTTP. Thereby, the Web application of the server apparatus 120 can easily analyze and acquire user information. If the communication protocol is SOAP, user information transmitted by MFP 100 is included in a SOAP request envelope as shown in FIG. As a result, the Web service of the server apparatus 120 can easily analyze and acquire user information. Further, regardless of whether the communication protocol is HTTP or SOAP, it is possible to reduce the development man-hours for constructing the system so as to analyze the user information.

Next, in step s 8, when the user remotely operates the MFP 100 and prints print data using the application 128 of the server apparatus 120, a print execution instruction is input from the input unit 103 of the MFP 100. Here, the print execution instruction is input as follows. FIG. 7 is a diagram illustrating an example of a UI screen 200 displayed on the display unit 104 of the MFP 100 during remote operation. In MFP 100 that can be remotely operated, application 128 of server apparatus 120 can be operated using print execution button 201 or the like arranged on UI screen 200 displayed by display means 104. In MFP 100, print execution button 201 arranged on UI screen 200 displayed by display means 104 is pressed by input means 103 such as a touch panel or a mouse, and a print execution instruction is input.

In step a8, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the device setting manager 127 based on the print execution instruction input via the MFP 100 in step s8, and the device driver 124 corresponding to the MFP 100 that is the remote operation source apparatus. To determine if there is any. Here, FIG. 8 is a diagram showing the correspondence between IP addresses and device driver names. FIG. 9 is a diagram showing the correspondence of custom setting values for each logged-in user. The device setting manager 127 associates the MFP 100 with the device driver 124 such as correspondence information between the IP address and the device driver name registered in advance in the storage unit 122 and stored, and custom setting value information corresponding to the user ID, and Using the user information, the device driver 124 corresponding to the MFP 100 is specified.

For example, the device setting manager 127 identifies the function ID corresponding to the IP address and the device driver name that the OS can recognize based on the IP address included in the user information transmitted from the MFP 100 that is the remote operation source device. The device driver 124 corresponding to the MFP 100 is specified. Further, when applying custom settings according to the user of MFP 100, device setting manager 127, based on the user ID included in the user information transmitted from MFP 100, the device driver name corresponding to the user ID, and the device Identifies the custom setting value that corresponds to the driver name.

If the device setting manager 127 determines that there is a device driver 124 corresponding to the MFP 100, the process proceeds to step a9. If it is determined that there is no device driver 124 corresponding to the MFP 100, the process advances to step s 13, and the MFP 100 displays the standard dialog 210 on the display unit 104.

In step a 9, CPU 129 of server device 120 controls remote connection driver 121 to cause MFP 100 to transmit an operation status request signal via NIC 130. In step s9, when the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 receives the operation status request signal transmitted from the server device 120 in step a9 via the NIC 101, the CPU 102 controls the remote connection driver 111 to indicate the operation status of the MFP 100 itself via the NIC 101. An operation status report signal is transmitted.

In step a10, when CPU 129 of server device 120 receives the operation status report signal transmitted from MFP 100 in step s9 via NIC 130, based on the operation status report signal, whether MFP 100 is ready for immediate printing or not. Determine whether. If it is determined that the MFP 100 is ready for immediate printing, the process proceeds to step a19. If it is determined that the MFP 100 is not ready for immediate printing, the process proceeds to step a11.

In step a11, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the device setting manager 127 to search for an alternative image forming apparatus. At this time, the device setting manager 127 selects an alternative candidate image forming apparatus having a similarity value within a predetermined range, and sequentially inquires and searches the alternative candidate image forming apparatus as to whether immediate printing is possible. Specifically, the device setting manager 127 stores, in step a11- (A), the print parameter setting values that are stored in advance in the storage unit 122 and that each image forming apparatus connected to the network individually has. Get from.

In step a11- (B), the device setting manager 127 calculates the similarity value of each image forming apparatus connected to the network based on the conditional expression preset by the user and the acquired print parameter setting value. . Next, in step a11- (C), the device setting manager 127 selects an image forming apparatus whose capability distance is within a predetermined range as an alternative candidate image forming apparatus based on the calculated similarity value.

In step a11- (D), the device setting manager 127 transmits an operation status request signal to the alternative candidate image forming apparatus via the NIC 130, and receives an operation status report signal from the alternative candidate image forming apparatus via the NIC 130. To do. In step a11- (E), the device setting manager 127 determines whether the image forming apparatus is ready for immediate printing based on the operation status report signal transmitted from the alternative candidate image forming apparatus. To do. If the image can be printed immediately, the image forming apparatus is recognized as an alternative image forming apparatus.

Next, in step a11- (F), when a plurality of alternative image forming apparatuses are recognized in step a11- (E), the device setting manager 127 identifies one alternative image forming apparatus. Next, a user who operates MFP 100 inputs an instruction to select a desired alternative image forming apparatus through input unit 103 based on the list displayed on display unit 104. The device setting manager 127 identifies one alternative image forming apparatus based on the instruction input from the input unit 103.

In this way, when the remote operation source apparatus is not ready for immediate printing, it is possible to automatically set an alternative image forming apparatus that performs immediate printing instead. If it is determined that there is an alternative image forming apparatus capable of immediate printing, the process proceeds to step a12. If it is determined that there is no alternative image forming apparatus capable of immediate printing, the process proceeds to step s13. A standard dialog 210 is displayed.

In step a12, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the device setting manager 127 to determine whether there is a device driver 124 corresponding to the alternative image forming apparatus. If the device setting manager 127 determines that there is a device driver 124 corresponding to the alternative image forming apparatus, the process proceeds to step a13. If it is determined that there is no device driver 124 corresponding to the alternative image forming apparatus, the process advances to step s13, and the MFP 100 displays the standard dialog 210 on the display unit 104.

Here, when there is no device driver 124 corresponding to one alternative image forming apparatus in step a12, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 repeats step a11 to step a12 to search for the next new alternative image forming apparatus. It may be configured.

In step a <b> 13, CPU 129 of server device 120 causes MFP 100, which is the remote operation source device, to transmit a signal indicating completion of identification of the alternative image forming device via NIC 130. In MFP 100 that has received the substitute image forming apparatus identification completion signal, a message that can individually identify the substitute image forming apparatus is displayed on display means 104. When a substitute image forming apparatus identification completion signal is transmitted from server apparatus 120 to MFP 100, server apparatus 120 once enters standby mode.

Next, in step a14, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 determines whether or not a print start instruction signal has been received from the alternative image forming apparatus. Here, instead of the configuration in which the substitute image forming apparatus transmits the print start instruction signal, the server apparatus 120 periodically determines whether or not an operation to input the print start instruction is performed in the substitute image forming apparatus. It can also be set as the structure to confirm automatically. If it is determined that the print start instruction signal has been received, the standby mode is canceled and the process proceeds to step a15. If the print start instruction signal has not been received, the process proceeds to step a17.

In step a15, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the device setting manager 127 to perform parameter setting for the device driver 124 corresponding to the alternative image forming apparatus. In step a16, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the device driver 124 to transmit print data to the alternative image forming apparatus.

Accordingly, the user who uses the cooperation system 1 can print the print data created by using the application 128 of the server device 120 in the alternative image forming apparatus. Further, since the print data is transmitted from the server device 120 to the substitute image forming apparatus after receiving the print start signal from the substitute image forming apparatus, a third party uses the substitute image forming apparatus. Thus, it is possible to prevent printing using the print data without permission.

In step a14, when the server apparatus 120 has not received the print start instruction signal from the alternative image forming apparatus, in step a17, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 transmits the alternative image forming apparatus specifying completion signal for a predetermined time. Judge whether or not it has passed. If it is determined that the predetermined time has elapsed, the process proceeds to step a18. If it is determined that the predetermined time has not elapsed, the process returns to step a14. Here, when it is determined that a predetermined time has elapsed, the print processing of the print data by the alternative image forming apparatus may be stopped. Such a configuration can be realized by incorporating logic into the cooperation system 1 that stops the printing process when a predetermined time has elapsed.

In step a18, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 notifies the alternative image forming apparatus that the print start instruction in the alternative image forming apparatus has not been input. In such a configuration, the server device 120 is provided with a user interface capable of presetting a predetermined time until the standby mode is canceled, and the predetermined time is stored in the storage unit 122 and printed on the alternative image forming apparatus. This can be realized by incorporating a logic for notifying the alternative image forming apparatus that the print start instruction is not input when the start instruction is not input even after a predetermined time has elapsed.

Alternatively, the MFP 100 that is the remote operation source apparatus may be notified that the print start instruction in the alternative image forming apparatus has not been input. In such a configuration, the server device 120 is provided with a user interface capable of presetting a predetermined time until the standby mode is canceled, and the predetermined time is stored in the storage unit 122 and printed on the alternative image forming apparatus. This can be realized by incorporating a logic for notifying the remote operation source device that the print start instruction is not input when the start instruction is not input even after a predetermined time has elapsed.

If the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 determines in step a10 that the MFP 100 that is the remote operation source apparatus is ready for immediate printing, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the device setting manager 127 in step a19. Parameters are set to the device driver 124 corresponding to the remote operation source device. In step a20, the CPU 129 of the server apparatus 120 controls the device driver 124 to transmit print data to the remote operation source apparatus. As a result, the user who uses the linkage system 1 can print the print data created using the application 128 of the server device 120 in the remote operation source device.

In step s10, CPU 102 of MFP 100 receives the print data transmitted from server apparatus 120 in step a20 via NIC 101, and proceeds to step s11. In step s11, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 controls the image forming unit 105 to form print data on a recording medium and output a printed matter. In this way, the MFP 100 can print the print data received via the network 140 and created using the application 128 of the server apparatus 120 on the recording medium. At this time, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 can control the image reading unit 106 such as a scanner to read the print data.

When the remote operation is to be ended in cooperation system 1, an operation end signal indicating that the remote operation is to be ended is transmitted from MFP 100 in step s12. In step a21, when the server device 120 receives the operation end signal, the remote operation in the cooperation system 1 ends.

If CPU 102 of MFP 100 determines in step s2 that a remote operation start instruction has not been input, the process proceeds to step s13. In step s13, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 operates the apparatus based on the embedded OS 109. Here, FIG. 10 is a diagram illustrating an example of a standard dialog 210 displayed on the display unit 104 of the MFP 100 when the remote operation is not performed. In the MFP 100 that operates based on the embedded OS 109, a standard dialog 210 as shown in FIG. 10 is displayed on the display unit 104. Next, in step s14, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 determines whether or not an instruction relating to print settings has been input to the input unit 103. If it is determined that the print setting instruction is input, the process proceeds to step s15. If it is determined that the print setting instruction is not input, step s14 is repeated. Next, in step s15, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 determines whether or not an instruction regarding print execution is input to the input unit 103. If it is determined that the print execution instruction is input, the process proceeds to step s16. If it is determined that the print execution instruction is not input, step s15 is repeated. In step s16, the CPU 102 of the MFP 100 controls the image forming unit 105 to form print data on a recording medium and output a printed matter.
