Description

The present invention relates to a card edge type connector for electrically connecting a connecting conductor provided on a surface of an edge portion of a circuit board and an electric wire or the like.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, as a means for electrically connecting an electric wire or the like to a connection conductor provided on a circuit board, a card edge type connector attached to an edge of the circuit board is known.

For example, the following Patent Document 1 includes a terminal fitting provided at each end of a plurality of electric wires, a terminal-side housing that holds these terminal fittings, and a board-side housing that is fixed to an edge of the circuit board. The board-side housing locks the terminal-side housing at a position where each terminal fitting contacts a connection conductor of the circuit board. Each of the terminal fittings has an elastic contact piece that can be elastically displaced in the thickness direction of the circuit board, and these elastic contact pieces generate a reaction force from the circuit board surface when contacting the surface of the circuit board. Upon receiving, it is elastically displaced outward, and is brought into pressure contact with the connecting conductor on the surface of the circuit board by its elastic restoring force.
JP 2003-178834 A

In recent years, with the miniaturization of various electronic units and the like, the circuit board has been made thinner and the terminal fittings have been made smaller. However, as the thickness and size are reduced, it becomes difficult to ensure a sufficient contact pressure between the connecting conductor and the elastic contact piece of the terminal fitting. In particular, if the elastic contact piece is made thin to reduce the size of the terminal fitting, the spring coefficient is inevitably small, and sufficient connection reliability is ensured only by the elastic return force of the elastic contact piece. It becomes difficult to obtain the contact pressure.

In view of such circumstances, the present invention provides a card edge type connector capable of ensuring a sufficient contact pressure between a circuit board and a terminal regardless of a thin circuit board and a small connector. The purpose is to do.

As means for solving the above-mentioned problems, the present invention provides a card edge type connector having a terminal that can be connected to a conductor by contacting a connecting conductor provided on the surface of an edge of a circuit board. A terminal-side housing that holds the terminal, and a board-side housing that is fixed to the circuit board and has a locking portion that locks the terminal-side housing at a position where the terminal contacts the connecting conductor, The terminal is in contact with the connecting conductor in the elastic displacement direction by elastically displacing the held portion held by the terminal side housing and the thickness direction of the circuit board with respect to the held portion. The terminal-side housing includes a terminal holding portion that holds the held portion of the terminal, and a terminal cover portion that covers the elastic contact portion of the terminal from the side opposite to the circuit board. The terminal cover portion includes a terminal pressing portion that is displaceable in a pressing direction that presses the elastic contact portion against the connecting conductor, and the board-side housing has a locking portion that is connected to the terminal-side housing. It has a pressing operation surface that presses against the terminal pressing portion so as to displace the terminal pressing portion in the pressing direction at the locking position.

According to this configuration, the elastic contact portion of the terminal held by the terminal side housing is in contact with the connection conductor on the circuit board side at a position where the locking portion of the board side housing locks the terminal side housing. And the terminal pressing portion provided in the terminal side housing presses against the pressing operation surface of the substrate side housing and is displaced in the pressing direction to press the elastic contact portion against the connecting conductor. The contact pressure between the elastic contact portion and the connection conductor is increased. Therefore, even when the spring coefficient of the elastic contact portion is low, the pressure contact force between the pressing operation surface and the terminal pressing portion is transmitted to the elastic contact portion through the terminal pressing portion that is displaced along with the pressure contact. The elastic contact portion can be brought into contact with the connecting conductor with sufficient pressure.

Here, it is more preferable that the pressing operation surface of the board-side housing has a shape that approaches the surface of the circuit board as it goes to the back side of the circuit board. Such a shape of the pressing operation surface facilitates the entry of the terminal pressing portion into a space sandwiched between the pressing operation surface and the circuit board. Further, since the amount of displacement of the terminal pressing portion in the pressing direction changes depending on the degree of entry, even if the thickness of the circuit board changes, the locking position of the terminal-side housing by the locking portion is set in the entering direction. It is possible to cope with the change of the thickness only by changing.

On the other hand, the shape of the terminal cover portion of the terminal-side housing can be set as appropriate. If the outer surface of this terminal cover part is a shape along the said pressing operation surface, interference with the said terminal cover part and the said pressing operation surface can be avoided reliably.

As the terminal cover part of the terminal side housing, for example, the whole including the terminal pressing part is integrally formed, and the terminal pressing part is connected to the other part of the terminal cover part. What is bent and displaced using the connecting portion as a fulcrum is preferable. In this terminal cover portion, the cover portion main body and the terminal pressing portion are integrally formed with a small number of parts, but the terminal pressing portion can be displaced in the pressing direction.

In the present invention, the card edge connector includes a plurality of the terminals, and the terminal holding portions of the terminal side housing are held portions of these terminals so that the terminals are aligned in a direction along the edge of the circuit board. The terminal pressing portion is provided in the terminal cover portion so as to be displaceable independently of each other at a plurality of positions arranged in a direction parallel to the terminal arrangement direction. More preferable.

According to this connector, the respective terminals and the respective connection conductors are in contact with each other, whereby a plurality of electrical connections are realized simultaneously. In addition, since the terminal pressing portion is provided in the terminal cover portion so as to be independently displaceable at a plurality of positions arranged in a direction parallel to the terminal arrangement direction, for example, the arrangement of the terminals. Even when the board is warped or the thickness dimension varies in the direction, each terminal pressing portion is displaced by a suitable amount at each portion, so that each terminal is satisfactorily connected to the corresponding connecting conductor. Can be pressed.

More preferably, the terminal pressing portion may be provided for each terminal.

In the present invention, as the terminal, a first terminal that contacts a connection conductor provided on one surface of the circuit board, and a second terminal that contacts a connection conductor provided on the other surface of the circuit board. The terminal holding portion is a first holding surface to which the held portion of the first terminal is fixed, and a surface on the back side of the first holding surface, and the held portion of the second terminal is fixed. The terminal-side housing, as the terminal cover portion, the first terminal cover portion that covers the elastic contact portion of the first terminal from the side opposite to the circuit board; More preferably, it has a second terminal cover part that covers the elastic contact part of the two terminals from the side opposite to the circuit board, and each of these terminal cover parts includes the terminal pressing part.

In this configuration, the first terminal and the second terminal are respectively held by a common terminal holding portion, and the terminal pressing portions included in the first terminal cover portion and the second terminal cover portion, respectively. And the first pressing operation surface and the second pressing operation surface of the substrate-side housing can simultaneously contact the connection conductors provided on both surfaces of the circuit board with a suitable pressure.

In this case, the terminal-side housing includes a terminal holding member constituting the terminal holding portion and the first terminal cover portion, and the terminal holding is performed so as to cover the first terminal held by the terminal holding member. A thing provided with the 1st cover member with which a member is attached, and the 2nd cover member with which the terminal holding member is attached so that the 2nd terminal held by the terminal holding member may be covered is suitable.

In the terminal-side housing, the first terminal and the second terminal can be easily set on the terminal holding member at a stage before the first cover member and the second cover member are mounted on the terminal holding member. it can. And the terminal pressing part of each said cover member can be arrange | positioned in the suitable position of the outer side of each said terminal by attaching | attaching the said 1st cover member and 2nd cover member to the said terminal holding member after that.

The terminal holding portion has an insertion groove into which an edge of the circuit board is inserted in a state where the terminal-side housing is locked to the locking portion of the board-side housing, and the circuit board in the insertion groove It is more preferable that the insertion region and the region where the held portions of the first terminal and the second terminal are held partially overlap.

According to this configuration, the size of the connector in the insertion direction is reduced by the amount that the insertion area of the circuit board into the insertion groove and each held portion overlap in the insertion direction of the edge of the circuit board. It is possible.

Furthermore, in the case where a compression spring is provided at the back of the insertion groove to give a reaction force in the direction opposite to the insertion direction against the edge of the circuit board inserted into the insertion groove, the compression spring is the circuit. The reaction force applied to the edge portion of the board can give the operator a feeling close to that of a normal fitting resistance between the connectors.

In addition, if the terminal holding portion has an elastic holding portion that elastically holds the edge portion of the circuit board inserted into the insertion groove from both sides in the thickness direction, the elastic holding portion is the circuit. By holding the edge portion of the board, it is possible to prevent the terminal-side housing from rattling with respect to the circuit board, and to absorb the warp and thickness variation of the circuit board by the elastic displacement of the elastic holding part.

As described above, according to the present invention, the force that the terminal pressing portion of the terminal side housing is pressed against the pressing operation surface of the substrate side housing is transmitted to the elastic contact portion of the terminal by the displacement of the terminal pressing portion. There is an effect that the contact portion can be brought into contact with the connection conductor of the circuit board with sufficient pressure.

Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.

The card edge type connector shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 is attached to the edge of the circuit board 10 shown in FIG. 1, and includes a plurality of first terminals 11 and second terminals 12, and these terminals 11, 12. Terminal-side housing 14 and board-side housing 16 fixed to the circuit board 10. The terminal-side housing 14 can be fitted inside the board-side housing 16 and is locked to the board-side housing 16 in the fitted state.

The circuit board 10 has a flat plate shape having a front side surface 10a and a back side surface 10b, and a plurality of connection conductors 18 each having a thin plate shape are disposed on the both surfaces 10a and 10b. These connecting conductors 18 are arranged in a direction along the edge of the circuit board 10 (depth direction in FIG. 1) on each of the surfaces 10a and 10b.

The first terminals 11 are arranged so as to be in contact with the connection conductors 18 arranged on the front side surface 10a, and similarly, the second terminals 12 are connected conductors arranged on the back side surface 10b. 18 is held by the terminal-side housing 14 in a state of being arranged so as to be in contact with the terminal 18. The terminal-side housing 14 is locked to the substrate-side housing 16 at a position where the terminals 11 and 12 contact the corresponding connecting conductors 18.

Each of the terminals 11 and 12 is made of a conductive metal plate, and integrally includes a substrate portion 20 and an elastic contact portion 22 that extends forward from the front end of the substrate portion 20.

The board portion 20 corresponds to a held portion held by the terminal-side housing 14 and extends in parallel with the circuit board 10.

The elastic contact portion 22 includes a base portion 24 extending in an oblique direction away from the front end of the substrate portion 20 with respect to the circuit board 10, a bending portion 25 that curves from the base portion 24 toward the circuit substrate 10, A contact portion 26 extending in parallel with the circuit board 10 from the bending portion 25 is provided in that order. The elastic contact portion 22 can be deflected and displaced in the thickness direction of the circuit board 10 with respect to the board portion 20, and the contact portion 26 can contact the connection conductor 18 of the circuit board 10 by the deflection displacement. is there.

From both the left and right sides of the base 24, a conductor barrel 27 and an insulation barrel 28 located behind the conductor barrel 27 rise. The conductor barrel 27 is crimped to the conductor portion so as to be wound around the conductor portion exposed at the end of an unillustrated electric wire, and the insulation barrel 28 is attached to the insulating coating so as to be wound around the insulating coating of the electric wire. Crimped.

4 and 5, the terminal-side housing 14 includes a terminal holding member 30, a first cover member 31, and a second cover member 32, which are formed of an insulating material such as a synthetic resin. Has been.

As shown in FIG. 6, the terminal holding member 30 includes upper and lower walls 33 extending in a direction parallel to the arrangement direction of the first terminals 11 and the arrangement direction of the second terminals 12, and left and right side walls 35. These walls 33 and 35 surround an insertion groove 34 that opens toward the front side (circuit board 10 side). The opening of the insertion groove 34 has such a size that the edge of the circuit board 10 can be inserted from the opening, and the height dimension of the insertion groove 34 is slightly larger than the thickness of the circuit board 10. That is, the edge of the circuit board 10 can be inserted into the insertion groove 34 with a gap in the thickness direction.

A pair of left and right compression coil springs 36 are charged in the back of the insertion groove 34. The compression coil spring 36 is sandwiched between the back end surface of the insertion groove 34 and the edge of the circuit board 10 inserted into the insertion groove 34, and is compressed and elastically deformed. An insertion reaction force is applied to the side housing 30.

Further, the terminal holding member 30 is formed with a pair of elastic holding portions 38 for elastically holding the edge portion of the circuit board 10 inserted into the insertion groove 34 from both sides in the thickness direction. . These elastic holding portions 38 protrude from the inner side surface of the upper and lower walls 33 into the insertion groove 34 and can be elastically displaced in the vertical direction, that is, in the thickness direction of the circuit board 10. These elastic holding portions 38 are sandwiched from both the upper and lower sides by the elastic force in a state where they are elastically displaced both vertically and outwardly by the edge portions of the circuit board 10 inserted into the insertion groove 34. .

Of the upper and lower walls 33, the base 24 of the first terminal 11 is fixed to the upper surface of the upper wall 33, and the base 24 of the second terminal 12 is fixed to the lower surface of the lower wall 33. Positioning protrusions 30 a are formed on the respective surfaces, and these protrusions 30 a are fitted into through holes provided in the base portion 24.

The first cover member 31 is attached to the terminal holding member 30 so as to cover each first terminal 11 held by the terminal holding member 30 from the outside. Similarly, the second cover member 32 is attached to the terminal holding member 30 so as to cover each second terminal 12 held by the terminal holding member 30 from the outside. These cover members 31 and 32 have the same shape. FIG. 7 representatively shows the shape of the first cover member 31.

Each of the cover members 31 and 32 has a terminal cover portion 40 and an ear portion 46 integrally. The terminal cover 40 extends in a direction parallel to the arrangement direction of the first terminals 11 and the arrangement direction of the second terminals 12 and has a shape that covers the first terminal 11 or the second terminal 12 from the outside. The ear 46 has a shape that covers the left and right side walls 35 of the terminal holding member 30 from the outside, and each ear 46 is provided with a window 46a to be locked. On the other hand, a pair of upper and lower locking projections 48 project outward from the outer surfaces of the left and right side walls 35, and these locking projections 48 are fitted into the corresponding windows 46a, whereby the respective cover members 31 are provided. , 32 are respectively engaged (attached) to the terminal holding member 30.

The terminal cover portion 40 includes a main body wall 43 extending in parallel with the circuit board 10 and an inclined wall 44 extending obliquely inward from the front end of the main body wall 43 toward the front. The body wall 43 has a shape that covers the base portion 24 of the terminals 11 and 12 and the base portion 24 of the elastic contact portion 22 with the cover members 31 and 32 attached to the terminal holding member 30. Have In addition, the inclined wall 44 has a shape that covers the curved portion 25 of the elastic contact portion 22 from obliquely forward when the cover member is mounted.

The inclined wall 44 is formed with a plurality of terminal pressing portions 42 integrally therewith. These terminal pressing portions 42 are positions corresponding to the first terminal 11 and the second terminal 12, respectively, and the back surfaces thereof can contact the curved portion 25 of the corresponding terminal 11 (12) from the outside. Is provided. There are slits 49 on both the left and right sides and the rear side of each terminal pressing portion 42 so as to surround the terminal pressing portion 42, and the terminal pressing portion 42 is separated from other portions of the inclined wall 44 by these slits 49. ing. In other words, only the front end portion of the terminal pressing portion 42 is connected to the other portion of the inclined wall 44, and the rear end portion of the terminal pressing portion 42 can be deflected and displaced using this connecting portion as a fulcrum. . The direction of the bending displacement corresponds to a pressing direction in which the elastic contact portion 22 of the terminal 11 (12) corresponding to the terminal pressing portion 42 is pressed against the connection conductor 18 of the circuit board 10.

The outer portion of each terminal pressing portion 42 bulges further outward than the outer surface of the other portion of the inclined wall 44, and a pressed protrusion 42a protrudes further outward from the top of the bulged portion. 42 a can receive pressure from the substrate-side housing 16.

The board-side housing 16 is also entirely formed of an insulating material such as synthetic resin, and covers the board fixing portion 50 fixed to a specific part of the circuit board 10 and the circuit board 10 on the edge side of the specific part. The hood part 52 is integrally provided.

The board fixing portion 50 surrounds a through hole 54 through which the circuit board 10 can be inserted with substantially no gap, and around the circuit board 10 inserted through the through hole 54 by an appropriate means such as a fastener or an adhesive. Fixed. The hood part 52 extends from the board fixing part 50 toward the edge of the circuit board 10, has a cylindrical shape surrounding the circuit board 10, and has a shape into which the terminal-side housing 14 can be fitted. Have.

Among the upper and lower inner surfaces of the hood portion 52, the surface on the opening end side (rear end side) is a flat surface along the main body wall 43 of the cover members 31 and 32 in the terminal side housing 30, whereas The back surface is a tapered first pressing operation surface 55 and a second pressing operation surface 56 that extend from the flat surface to the inner surface of the through hole 54. That is, the pressing operation surfaces 55 and 56 have a shape that approaches the surface of the circuit board 10 as it goes to the back side of the circuit board 10. Further, the outer surface of the inclined wall 44 of each cover member 31, 32 in the terminal side housing 14 is a tapered surface along each pressing operation surface 55, 56.

Locking windows 57 as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3 are formed at appropriate positions on the left and right side walls constituting the hood portion 52. On the other hand, the left and right side walls 35 of the terminal holding member 30 in the terminal side housing 14 are formed with bending pieces 58 that can be elastically bent and deformed in the left-right direction. The possible end has an outwardly-engaged projection 58a. The terminal-side housing 14 is locked to the board-side housing 16 by fitting the locked protrusions 58a into the locking window 57. The terminal side housing 14 is locked at a position where the pressed protrusions 42a of the terminal pressing portions 42 on the terminal side housing 14 side are in pressure contact with the first pressing operation surface 55 or the second pressing operation surface 56, respectively. The terminal pressing portion 42 is elastically displaced in the pressing direction by the pressing force, and is set to a position where the corresponding elastic contact portion 22 of the terminal 11 (12) is pressed against the connecting conductor 18 on the circuit board 10.

Next, the assembly procedure and usage procedure of this card edge type connector will be described in order.

1) The first terminal 11 and the second terminal 12 are connected to a terminal of an unillustrated electric wire.

2) The board portion 20 of each terminal 11 is fixed on the upper and lower surfaces of the terminal holding member 30 in the terminal-side housing 14. At this stage, that is, when the first cover member 31 and the second cover member 32 are not attached to the terminal holding member 30, the upper and lower surfaces of the terminal holding member 30 are exposed to the outside. The terminals 11 and 12 are easily set.

3) The cover members 31 and 32 are attached to the terminal holding member 30. This mounting is performed by fitting the locking protrusions 48 on the terminal holding member 30 side into the windows 46a of the respective ear portions 46 in the cover members 31 and 32. With this mounting, the terminal-side housing 14 is completed, and the first cover member 31 and the second cover member 32 cover the first terminal 11 and the second terminal 12 from the outside, respectively. The curved portion 25 of the elastic contact portion 22 in each terminal 11, 12 is in light contact (or close proximity) to the back surface of the terminal pressing portion 42.

4) On the other hand, the board-side housing 16 is fixed to the circuit board 10. Specifically, the circuit board 10 is inserted into a through hole 54 surrounded by the board fixing part 50 of the board side housing 16, and an inner peripheral surface (through hole) of the board fixing part 50 is inserted into an appropriate position of the circuit board 10. 54) is fixed by suitable means (for example, adhesive, soldering, screws, etc.).

5) The terminal-side housing 14 is fitted inside the hood portion 52 of the board-side housing 16, and the locked protrusion 58 a of the bending piece 58 on the terminal-side housing 14 side is fitted on the window 57 on the hood portion 52 side. The terminal-side housing 14 is locked to the board-side housing 16 at the insertion position. At that time, the pressed protrusions 42a of the terminal pressing portions 42 in the terminal side housing 14 receive the pressing from the first pressing operation surface 55 or the second pressing operation surface 56 of the board side housing 16, and the pressing force The terminal pressing portion 42 is elastically displaced in the pressing direction. That is, these terminal pressing portions 42 are displaced in the direction in which the contact portions 26 of the elastic contact portions 22 of the respective terminals 11 (12) are pressed against the connection conductors 18 on the circuit board 10. This pressing force gives a sufficient contact pressure between the elastic contact portion 22 and the connecting conductor 18 corresponding to the elastic contact portion 22 and enhances connection reliability.

On the other hand, the edge of the circuit board 10 is inserted into the insertion groove 34 of the terminal holding member 30 and the compression coil spring 36 at the back of the insertion groove 34 is compressed. The elastic force of the compression coil spring 36 accompanying the compression gives a reaction force to the operator who inserts the terminal side housing 14. This reaction force gives the operator a feeling close to that of a normal connector fitting operation.

Further, the edge of the circuit board 10 is inserted into the insertion groove 34 so as to interrupt between the elastic holding portions 38 arranged vertically, that is, to elastically displace the elastic holding pieces 38 to both the upper and lower sides. Therefore, the elastic holding piece 38 is elastically held from above and below by the elastic restoring force. Therefore, even if there is a slight gap between the upper and lower surfaces of the circuit board 10 and the upper and lower walls 33 of the terminal holding member 30 in the insertion groove 34, the circuit board 10 is somewhat deformed such as warping. However, the edge of the circuit board 10 is stably held in the insertion groove 34 without rattling.

Further, the region in which the edge of the circuit board 10 is inserted into the insertion groove 34 and the region in which the terminals 11 and 12 are held in the terminal holding member 30 are the same in the front-rear direction (the insertion direction). If the parts overlap, the size of the entire connector in the front-rear direction is reduced by the overlap.

The insertion groove 34 can be omitted as appropriate according to specifications.

In the present invention, the specific shapes of the pressing operation surfaces 55 and 56 are not limited. These pressing operation surfaces 55 and 56 may be surfaces parallel to the upper and lower surfaces of the circuit board 10, for example. However, in this case, a high contact pressure is generated between the circuit board 10 and the elastic contact portions 22 of the terminals 11 and 12 from the beginning of the insertion of the circuit board 10 into the terminal-side housing 14. It becomes difficult to insert. On the other hand, the shape of the pressing operation surfaces 55 and 56 as shown in the drawing, that is, the shape that approaches the surface of the circuit board 10 toward the back side of the circuit board 10 is the pressing operation surfaces 55 and 56 and the circuit board. 10 makes the terminal pressing portion 42 enter smoothly into the space sandwiched between them.

Furthermore, since the shape of the pressing operation surfaces 55 and 56 can change the amount of elastic displacement of the terminal pressing portion 42 in the pressing direction according to the degree of the entry, the thickness of the circuit board 10 is changed. However, it is possible to cope with the change in the thickness only by changing the locking position of the terminal-side housing 14 by the board-side housing 16 in the entry direction. For example, when the terminals 11 and 12 are brought into contact with a connection conductor of a circuit board having a thickness dimension smaller than the thickness dimension t1 of the circuit board 10 shown in FIG. It is only necessary to set the locking position to a position on the back side of the position shown in FIG. 1, and it is not necessary to change the structure of the terminal side housing 14 itself. Accordingly, it is possible to apply the common terminal side housing 14 to a plurality of types of circuit boards 10 having different thicknesses.

In addition, the present invention can take the following embodiments, for example.

-The terminal pressing part in this invention may be comprised so that it may be comprised as a member different from the main-body part of a terminal side housing, and the said main-body part can be elastically displaced. For example, a terminal pressing portion made of an elastic member such as rubber is fixed to the main body portion of the terminal-side housing, and the terminal pressing portion presses the elastic contact portion of the terminal against the connection conductor of the circuit board by pressure contact with the pressing operation surface. Thus, it may be elastically deformed.

In the present invention, the number of terminals is not limited. For example, only the first terminal 11 or the second terminal 12 may be provided, or the first terminal 11 or the second terminal 12 may be singular. Similarly, a single terminal pressing portion may be used, and the terminal pressing portion may simultaneously press the elastic contact portions of a plurality of terminals against the circuit board. However, if the terminal pressing portion is provided so that it can be displaced independently of each other at a plurality of positions arranged in a direction parallel to the terminal arrangement direction in the terminal cover portion, for example, the arrangement of the terminals Even if the circuit board is warped or the thickness dimension varies in the direction, each terminal pressing part is displaced by a suitable amount at each part, so that each terminal is good for the corresponding connecting conductor. Can be pressed against. In particular, in the connector in which the terminal pressing portion 42 is provided for each of the terminals 11 and 12 as in the illustrated example, the contact state of the terminals 11 and 12 can be improved more reliably.

The specific structure of the terminal side housing 14 can be changed as appropriate.
