The liquid crystal device realizes color display by transmitting the light emitted from the lighting device through a color filter that transmits light of each wavelength of red, green, and blue stacked on the substrate of the liquid crystal display panel. is doing.

Patent Document 1 describes a method of producing a film having high visual field selection characteristics by forming fine cracks having a regular direction on a transparent plastic film. Arbitrary viewing angle control can be performed by installing this film in a liquid crystal device.

Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 11-64609

However, since the film described in Patent Document 1 is formed by being uniaxially stretched, the transmitted light is birefringent. Therefore, color unevenness may occur on the display screen of the liquid crystal device on which the film is installed.

The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and an object of the present invention is to provide a liquid crystal device capable of eliminating color unevenness.

In one aspect of the present invention, a liquid crystal device is disposed between a liquid crystal display panel, an illumination device that illuminates the light by transmitting light through the liquid crystal display panel, and the illumination device and the liquid crystal display panel. A film in which a plurality of fine cracks are formed along a direction, and an absorption axis that is installed between the film and the liquid crystal display panel and is substantially orthogonal or substantially parallel to the direction of the plurality of fine cracks. A polarizing plate.

The liquid crystal device includes a liquid crystal display panel, a lighting device, a film, and a polarizing plate. The illumination device illuminates the liquid crystal display panel by transmitting light. The film is installed between the lighting device and the liquid crystal display panel, and a plurality of fine cracks are formed along a predetermined direction. The polarizing plate is a lower polarizing plate and is disposed between the film and the liquid crystal display panel, and has an absorption axis that is substantially orthogonal or substantially parallel to the direction of the plurality of fine cracks. By doing in this way, since the direction of the absorption axis of a polarizing plate becomes substantially orthogonal or substantially parallel to the direction of uniaxial stretching of a film, it can suppress that a color nonuniformity generate | occur | produces on a display screen.

In a preferred embodiment of the liquid crystal device, an angle formed between the absorption axis and the plurality of fine cracks is in a range of 0 ± 10 [°] or in a range of 90 ± 10 [°].

In another aspect of the present invention, an electronic apparatus including the electro-optical device as a display unit can be configured.

In still another aspect of the present invention, a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal device includes a film production step of producing a film by forming a plurality of fine cracks substantially orthogonally or substantially parallel to a direction of uniaxial stretching of a plastic film, A film disposing step of disposing the film on a light exit surface of an illuminating device; a polarizing plate disposing step of disposing a polarizing plate so that an absorption axis is substantially orthogonal or substantially parallel to the direction of the plurality of fine cracks; and the polarization A liquid crystal display panel disposing step of disposing the liquid crystal display panel on the plate. According to this method for manufacturing a liquid crystal device, it is possible to manufacture a liquid crystal device capable of suppressing the occurrence of color unevenness on the display screen.

Hereinafter, preferred embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In the following embodiments, the present invention is applied to a liquid crystal device.

[Configuration of liquid crystal device]
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of a liquid crystal device 100 according to the present embodiment. The liquid crystal device 100 mainly includes a lighting device 10 and a liquid crystal display panel 20. The illumination device 10 is mainly composed of a light guide plate 11 and a light source unit 15. The liquid crystal display panel 20 is disposed to face the upper surface side of the light guide plate 11. The lighting device 10 includes a reflection sheet 14 on the lower surface side of the light guide plate 11.

The light source part 15 is arrange | positioned at the end surface 11c of the light-guide plate 11, and is provided with several LED16 which is a point light source.

The light L emitted from each LED 16 enters the light guide plate 11 from the end surface 11 c of the light guide plate 11. In the light guide plate 11, the upper surface functions as a light output surface 11 a that emits light, and the lower surface functions as a reflective surface 11 b that reflects light. The light L changes direction by repeating reflection between the light exit surface 11a and the reflection surface 11b of the light guide plate 11, and exits from the light exit surface 11a to the outside. The emitted light L travels toward the liquid crystal display panel 20.

Here, the film 17 is laminated on the light exit surface 11 a of the light guide plate 11. A plurality of fine cracks 17 a are formed on the film 17. Although described in detail later, the film 17 has a light diffusion function or a viewing angle control function.

The liquid crystal display panel 20 has a display area substantially the same as the light emission area of the light guide plate 11. The liquid crystal display panel 20 is configured by bonding substrates 1 and 2 made of glass or the like through a sealing material 3 to form a cell structure and enclosing a liquid crystal 4 therein. The liquid crystal display panel 20 includes a lower polarizing plate 5 a on the outer surface of the substrate 1 and an upper polarizing plate 5 b on the outer surface of the substrate 2.

Here, the lower polarizing plate 5a is arranged so that the absorption axis thereof is substantially orthogonal or substantially parallel to the direction of the plurality of fine cracks 17a.

For example, a diffusion sheet 12 and a prism sheet 13 are provided as optical sheets between the illumination device 10 and the liquid crystal display panel 20. The diffusion sheet 12 has a role of diffusing the light L emitted from the light guide plate 11 in all directions. The prism sheet 13 has a role of condensing the light L on the liquid crystal display panel 20 and has a shape in which a prism shape having a substantially triangular cross section is extended in one side direction (direction of a side perpendicular to the cross section). . The light L emitted from the light guide plate 11 illuminates by passing through the optical sheet and then passing through the liquid crystal display panel 20.

(Structure of the film)
Next, the film 17 will be described. FIG. 2 is a schematic view showing a method for producing the film 17.

The film 17 is produced by forming fine cracks 17 a on the plastic film 18. As shown in FIG. 2, the fine crack 17a is formed in a substantially linear shape by pressing a sharp blade 25 against the surface of the plastic film 18 having one end wound with a roller 26 and the other end pulled. The At this time, the sharp blade 25 is pressed perpendicularly to the direction in which the plastic film 18 is pulled.

Since the portion of the fine crack 17a becomes an air layer, a difference in refractive index occurs at the boundary between the portion of the film 17 where the fine crack 17a is not formed and the fine crack 17a. Further, the shape of the wall surface of the fine crack 17a is irregular. Therefore, of the light L incident on the film 17, the light that reaches the boundary with the fine crack 17a is scattered and reflected by the fine crack 17a. Therefore, in this case, the film 17 has a light diffusion function.

Although the fine crack 17a is an air layer, the present invention is not limited to this. Instead, the fine crack 17a is a diffusible substance capable of diffusing light, such as a white color material. May be satisfied. Thereby, the light diffusion function of the film 17 is further improved. Alternatively, the fine cracks 17a may be filled with an absorbing material that absorbs light. In this case, the film 17 has a viewing angle control function capable of emitting light only in a specific direction. Further, when an absorptive substance that absorbs a specific wavelength is used as the absorptive substance, the spectral characteristics of light emitted from the light exit surface can be changed.

Since the film 17 is made of the plastic film 18 thus pulled in a certain direction, it becomes a uniaxially stretched film. Therefore, since the molecules of the film 17 are oriented in the pulled direction, the film 17 has a refractive index difference of light between the two axes perpendicular to each other on the surface, and passes through the film 17. The light will be birefringent. That is, the film 17 has the same function as the retardation plate. Therefore, depending on the angle between the direction of uniaxial stretching, which is the direction in which the film 17 is pulled, and the absorption axis or transmission axis of the lower polarizing plate 5a, color unevenness occurs on the display screen.

FIG. 3 is a plan view showing the positional relationship between the film 17 and the lower polarizing plate 5a. As described above, since the fine crack 17a is formed by pressing the sharp blade 25 against the surface perpendicular to the direction in which the plastic film 18 is pulled, the direction of the fine crack 17a is uniaxial. It becomes substantially orthogonal to the stretching direction Cx. Therefore, the user can know the direction Cx of uniaxial stretching based on the direction of the fine crack 17a. Here, the angle between the absorption axis Abx of the lower polarizing plate 5a and the direction of the fine crack 17a is denoted by θ.

FIG. 4 is a chart showing the relationship between the angle θ formed between the absorption axis Abx of the lower polarizing plate 5a and the direction of the fine crack 17a and the occurrence of color unevenness.

As can be seen from FIG. 4, when the angle θ is 0 [°], 90 [°], 180 [°] (0 [°]), color unevenness does not occur, but the angle θ is 30 [°]. , 60 [°], 120 [°], 150 [°], color unevenness occurs. That is, when the direction of the absorption axis of the lower polarizing plate 5a is substantially parallel or substantially orthogonal to the fine crack 17a of the film 17, that is, the direction of the absorption axis of the lower polarizing plate 5a is substantially the same as the direction of uniaxial stretching of the film 17. In the case of being orthogonal or substantially parallel, color unevenness does not occur on the display screen.

That is, in the liquid crystal device 100 according to this embodiment, the direction of the absorption axis of the lower polarizing plate 5a is set by setting the direction of the absorption axis of the lower polarizing plate 5a to be substantially parallel or substantially orthogonal to the fine crack 17a of the film 17. Is substantially orthogonal or substantially parallel to the direction of uniaxial stretching of the film 17, so that occurrence of color unevenness on the display screen can be suppressed.

The range of specific values of the angle θ that does not cause color unevenness on the display screen may be a fixed range including values of 0 [°] and 90 [°], and 0 ± 10 [°. ] Or 90 ± 10 [°], it is possible to suppress the occurrence of color unevenness on the display screen.

(Manufacturing method of liquid crystal device)
Next, a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal device 100 according to the present embodiment will be described. FIG. 5 is a flowchart showing a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal device 100 according to the present embodiment.

First, as described in FIG. 2, the film 17 is produced by forming a plurality of fine cracks 17a perpendicular to the direction of uniaxial stretching of the plastic film (step P11). Process P11 is a film production process in the present invention.

Next, the film 17 is arrange | positioned at the light emission surface 11a of the illuminating device 10 (process P12). Process P12 is a film arrangement process in the present invention. Then, after an optical sheet such as a prism sheet is disposed on the film 17 disposed on the light exit surface 11 a of the illumination device 10, the lower polarizing plate 5 a has an absorption axis that is substantially orthogonal to the fine crack 17 a of the film 17 or It arrange | positions so that it may be located substantially parallel (process P13). Process P13 is a polarizing plate arrangement process in the present invention.

Finally, the liquid crystal display panel 20 and the upper polarizing plate 5b are sequentially arranged on the lower polarizing plate 5a (process P14). Step P14 is a liquid crystal display panel arrangement step in the present invention. In this way, the liquid crystal device 100 is completed. According to the method for manufacturing a liquid crystal device according to this embodiment, it is possible to manufacture a liquid crystal device capable of suppressing the occurrence of color unevenness on the display screen.

[Modification]
Next, a modified example of the present invention will be described. In the above-described embodiment, the fine crack 17a is formed substantially orthogonal to the direction of uniaxial stretching, but is not limited thereto, and instead is formed substantially parallel to the direction of uniaxial stretching. Also good. Even in this case, if the direction of the absorption axis of the lower polarizing plate 5 a is set substantially parallel or substantially orthogonal to the fine crack 17 a of the film 17, the direction of the absorption axis of the lower polarizing plate 5 a is the direction of uniaxial stretching of the film 17. Therefore, the occurrence of color unevenness on the display screen can be suppressed.

Even in this case, the ranges of specific values that do not cause color unevenness on the display screen at the angle formed by the absorption axis of the lower polarizing plate 5a and the fine crack 17a are 0 [°] and 90 [°], respectively. It is sufficient that the value is within a certain range including the value of 0. Within the range of 0 ± 10 [°] or within the range of 90 ± 10 [°], the occurrence of color unevenness on the display screen can be suppressed. .

In the above-described embodiment, the direction of the absorption axis of the lower polarizing plate 5a is substantially parallel or substantially orthogonal to the direction of uniaxial stretching of the film 17. However, the present invention is not limited to this. Needless to say, the direction of the transmission axis of the plate 5a (always orthogonal to the absorption axis) may be substantially parallel or substantially orthogonal to the direction of uniaxial stretching of the film 17. That is, it goes without saying that the direction of the transmission axis of the lower polarizing plate 5a may be substantially parallel or substantially orthogonal to the direction of the fine crack 17a.

In the above-described embodiment, the light source unit 15 includes a plurality of LEDs 16 that are disposed on the end surface 11c of the light guide plate 11 and are point light sources.
