Description

The present invention relates to an air-fuel ratio control device for an internal combustion engine, and more particularly to a control device for an internal combustion engine suitable as a device for controlling the air-fuel ratio of an in-vehicle internal combustion engine.

Conventionally, for example, Patent Document 1 discloses an abnormality diagnosis device for a limiting current oxygen sensor. In this conventional apparatus, a reverse voltage is applied to the oxygen sensor every predetermined time in order to detect an abnormality of the oxygen sensor. Based on the sensor current value when the reverse voltage is applied, it is determined whether or not a failure such as an element crack has occurred in the oxygen sensor. When element cracking is detected, the air-fuel ratio feedback control based on the oxygen sensor is interrupted.

The exhaust gas sensor such as the oxygen sensor cannot detect the sensor output accompanying the application of the positive voltage during the execution of the fault diagnosis by the application of the reverse voltage as described above. In addition, during a predetermined period after the application of the reverse voltage, an accurate sensor output cannot be detected due to the influence of oxygen ions pumped to the exhaust-side electrode during the application of the reverse voltage. For this reason, during execution of failure diagnosis, it is conceivable to stop using the output of the exhaust gas sensor for air-fuel ratio feedback control. However, if the interruption period becomes inadvertently long, the exhaust gas emission characteristic cannot be maintained at an appropriate value.

The present invention has been made to solve the above-described problems, and satisfactorily suppresses deterioration of the exhaust gas emission characteristics even during a period in which the exhaust gas sensor does not emit a normal sensor output. During the period when it is determined that the output of the first exhaust gas sensor is not normal, air-fuel ratio feedback control using the second feedback means is performed.

According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the first or second aspect, the exhaust gas is based on an output current when a voltage in a direction opposite to a voltage applied to detect the output of the first exhaust gas sensor is applied. An air-fuel ratio control apparatus for an internal combustion engine that performs failure diagnosis of a gas sensor,
The sensor output determining means determines a failure diagnosis period including a predetermined period after the application of the reverse voltage and a period after the application is ended as a period in which the output of the first exhaust gas sensor is not normal,
Sub feedback means for correcting the correction by the first feedback means so that the air-fuel ratio downstream of the catalyst becomes the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio based on the output of the second exhaust gas sensor;
In a period other than the failure diagnosis period, air-fuel ratio feedback control using the first feedback means and the sub-feedback means is executed,
During the failure diagnosis period, air-fuel ratio feedback control using the second feedback means is executed.

According to a fourth invention, in any one of the first to third inventions, the feedback gain used by the second feedback means is smaller than the feedback gain used by the first feedback means. It is characterized by being set to.

According to the first or second aspect of the invention, during the period when it is determined that the first exhaust gas sensor is not normal, the feedback control of the air-fuel ratio is continued by the feedback control using the output of the second exhaust gas sensor. Executed. For this reason, according to the present invention, it is possible to satisfactorily suppress the deterioration of the exhaust gas emission characteristics even during a period in which the first exhaust gas sensor does not emit a normal sensor output.

According to the third aspect of the invention, the feedback control of the air-fuel ratio uses the first feedback control with the sub feedback control and the feedback control using the output of the second exhaust gas sensor depending on whether or not it is during the failure diagnosis period. Can be switched between. Therefore, according to the present invention, it is possible to obtain excellent exhaust purification performance by the first feedback control accompanied by the sub-feedback control in the period other than the failure diagnosis period, and the second exhaust gas sensor during the failure diagnosis period. It is possible to effectively suppress the exhaust purification performance from being deteriorated by feedback control using the output of.

According to the fourth aspect of the present invention, the gain used for air-fuel ratio feedback control can be appropriately set in consideration of the difference in the exhaust gas arrival timing due to the difference in the location of the sensor.

Embodiment 1 FIG.
[Configuration of Device of Embodiment 1]
FIG. 1 is a diagram for explaining a configuration of an air-fuel ratio control apparatus according to Embodiment 1 of the present invention. As shown in FIG. 1, the apparatus of this embodiment includes an upstream catalyst (S / C) 12 and a downstream catalyst (U / F) 14 disposed in an exhaust passage 10 of the internal combustion engine. The upstream catalyst 12 and the downstream catalyst 14 are all three-way catalysts that can simultaneously purify CO, HC, and NOx.

A main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 and a sub O 2 sensor (oxygen sensor) 18 are disposed upstream and downstream of the upstream catalyst 12, respectively. The main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 is a sensor that emits a substantially linear output with respect to the air-fuel ratio A / F of the exhaust gas flowing into the upstream catalyst 12. On the other hand, the sub O 2 sensor 18 generates a rich output (for example, 0.8 V) when the exhaust gas flowing out from the upstream catalyst 12 is rich with respect to the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio, and the exhaust gas is lean. In this case, the sensor generates a lean output (for example, 0.2 V).

The output of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 and the output of the sub O 2 sensor 18 are respectively supplied to an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) (air-fuel ratio control device for an internal combustion engine) 20. The ECU 20 is further connected to various sensors for detecting the operating state of the internal combustion engine, such as an air flow meter 22 and a crank angle sensor 24, and a fuel injection valve 26. The air flow meter 22 is a sensor that detects an intake air amount Ga of the internal combustion engine. The crank angle sensor 24 is a sensor that generates an output corresponding to the engine speed Ne. The fuel injection valve 26 is an electromagnetic valve for injecting fuel into the intake port of the internal combustion engine.

[Air-fuel ratio control in Embodiment 1]
FIG. 2 is a control block diagram for explaining the contents of the air-fuel ratio control executed in the air-fuel ratio control apparatus of this embodiment. In FIG. 2, Cat12 corresponds to the upstream catalyst 12 shown in FIG. Further, A / Fs 16 and Vox 18 in FIG. 2 correspond to the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 and the sub O 2 sensor 18 shown in FIG. 1, respectively. Further, Eng30 in FIG. 2 means the main body of the internal combustion engine in which the system shown in FIG. 1 is incorporated.

In the system of the present embodiment, the main air / fuel ratio sensor 16 generates an output A / Fs [v] corresponding to the air / fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing out from the internal combustion engine 30 and flowing into the upstream catalyst 12. Specifically, the output A / Fs becomes larger as the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing into the upstream catalyst 12 is larger, that is, as the air-fuel ratio is leaner.

Sumvox(i)=Sumvox(i−1)+(Dvox・Kgain)として算出される。 The sub O 2 sensor 18 generates an output Vox [v] corresponding to the oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas flowing from the upstream catalyst 12 toward the downstream catalyst 14. The output Vox [v] of the sub O 2 sensor 18 is supplied to the subtractor 32. The differencer 32 calculates an output deviation Dvox = Voxref−Vox between the output Vox and the target voltage Voxref of the sub-feedback. Then, the sub-feedback controller 34 calculates “proportional term Dvox · GainP” with respect to the output deviation Dvox. Further, the sub-feedback controller 34 calculates “integral term Sumvox · GainI” with respect to the output deviation Dvox. More specifically, the output deviation integrated value Sumvox in the integral term Sumvox · GainI is obtained by adding the previous output deviation integrated value Sumvox (i−1) to the value obtained by multiplying the current output deviation Dvox by the predetermined integrated gain Kgain. Thus, Sumvox (i) = Sumvox (i−1) + (Dvox · Kgain) is calculated.

The sub feedback controller 34 calculates the sum “Dvox · GainP + Dlvox · GainD + Sumvox · GainI” of the above terms as the sub feedback correction amount Vsfb [v]. The sub feedback correction amount Vsfb is added to the output A / Fs of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 in the adder 36, and as a result, a correction voltage value Vfb is calculated.

The corrected voltage value Vfb is supplied to the voltage-air fuel ratio converter 38. The voltage-air-fuel ratio converter 38 stores a voltage-air-fuel ratio conversion map, and determines a corrected air-fuel ratio eabyf corresponding to the correction voltage value Vfb according to the map. More specifically, according to the processing of the voltage / air-fuel ratio converter 38, the larger the correction voltage value Vfb, the larger the correction air-fuel ratio eabyf, that is, a leaner value.

The ECU 20 executes “main (first) feedback control” on the basis of the corrected air-fuel ratio eabyf determined as described above under circumstances other than when an abnormality of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 described later is detected. Specifically, according to the main feedback control, the PI control executed by the main (first) feedback controller 40 for the purpose of eliminating the deviation between the corrected air-fuel ratio eabyf and the target air-fuel ratio (theoretical air-fuel ratio) described above. Thus, a corrected injection amount K A for performing increase / decrease correction on the base fuel injection amount is calculated. As a result, a final fuel injection quantity which is a sum of the fuel injection amount of the base and the correction injection amount K A would correct the air-fuel ratio eabyf is determined so as to change the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio.

In this case, the correction injection amount K B based on the second feedback correction amount K PI to be described later is zero (see FIG. 2), not reflected in the final fuel injection amount. Further, since the content of the main feedback control is not a main part of the present invention and is already a known matter, further explanation is omitted here. Hereinafter, correcting the content of the main feedback control by reflecting the sub feedback correction amount Vsfb in the output A / Fs is referred to as “sub feedback control”.

On the other hand, the second feedback controller 42 calculates “proportional term Dvox · GainP ′” and “integral term Sumvox · GainI ′” with respect to the output deviation Dvox. Then, the second feedback controller 42 calculates the sum “Dvox · GainP ′ + Sumvox · GainI ′” of the above terms as the second feedback correction amount K PI [v]. This second feedback correction amount KPI is converted into a corrected injection amount K B [mg] and then added to the base fuel injection amount [mg] when an abnormality of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 described later is detected. In this case, the corrected injection amount K A calculated by the main feedback controller 40 is set to zero (see FIG. 2) and is not reflected in the final fuel injection amount.

Further, the proportional term gain GainP ′ and the integral term gain GainI ′ used in the second feedback controller 42 are set to be smaller than the proportional term gain Gp mfb and the integral term gain Gi mfb used in the main feedback controller 40. Is done.

[Sensor fault diagnosis by applying reverse voltage]
In the system of the present embodiment, failure diagnosis of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 is periodically executed. The main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 includes an electrolyte layer made of zirconia or the like, an exhaust side electrode provided so as to be exposed to exhaust gas, and an atmosphere side electrode provided so as to be exposed to the atmosphere layer. . The main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 is selectively applied with a positive voltage for detecting the sensor output and a reverse voltage for performing failure diagnosis. When a positive voltage is applied, a sensor current corresponding to the oxygen excess / deficiency in the exhaust gas, that is, a sensor current corresponding to the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flows between the atmosphere side electrode and the exhaust side electrode. Therefore, the exhaust air / fuel ratio can be detected by detecting the sensor current.

On the other hand, when a reverse voltage is applied, oxygen in contact with the surface of the atmosphere side electrode is ionized and pumped toward the exhaust side electrode. As a result, a negative current (reverse current) having a correlation with the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere layer flows between the exhaust side electrode and the atmosphere side electrode. That is, if the sensor element is normal, a current corresponding to the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere flows, the sensor element is cracked, and if the exhaust gas is mixed in the atmosphere layer, Since the oxygen concentration is lowered, the current flowing through the sensor element is smaller than the normal current.

Thus, the value of the current generated by applying a voltage between the exhaust-side electrode and the atmosphere-side electrode varies depending on whether or not the sensor element is cracked. Therefore, it can be determined whether or not the sensor element is cracked based on the fluctuation of the current value. When an element crack occurs, the more air flowing through the exhaust passage, the easier the air flows into the atmospheric layer. Therefore, the application time of the reverse voltage, that is, the execution time of the failure diagnosis is set when the internal combustion engine is in a stable high load state.

FIG. 3 is a diagram for explaining a change in the output current of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 when a reverse voltage is applied. More specifically, FIG. 3A shows a flag indicating the success or failure of reverse voltage application, and FIG. 3B shows a waveform indicating a change in the output current of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16. Here, it is assumed that the reverse voltage application period A shown in FIG. 3A and the predetermined period B required until a normal sensor output is stably obtained after completion of the application are fixed periods. In addition, these periods (A + B) may be referred to as “failure diagnosis periods” in this specification.

While the failure diagnosis of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 is being executed, that is, while the reverse voltage is being applied, the sensor output accompanying the application of the positive voltage cannot be detected. Further, immediately after the reverse voltage application is completed, an accurate sensor output cannot be detected due to the influence of oxygen ions pumped to the exhaust-side electrode during the reverse voltage application. For this reason, during the failure diagnosis period, it is considered that the main feedback control based on the output of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 is interrupted.

However, if the interruption period of the main feedback control becomes inadvertently long due to the failure diagnosis, the emission characteristic of the exhaust gas cannot be maintained at an appropriate value. Therefore, in the system according to this embodiment, execution of the main air-fuel ratio feedback control with sub feedback control is prohibited during such a failure diagnosis period, and good exhaust gas emission characteristics are maintained even during the failure diagnosis period. Therefore, the second feedback control based on the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18 is executed.

[Specific Processing in Embodiment 1]
FIG. 4 is a flowchart of a routine executed by the ECU 20 in the present embodiment in order to realize the above function. In the routine shown in FIG. 4, first, it is determined whether or not the exhaust gas sensor (main air-fuel ratio sensor 16) is outputting abnormally (step 100). Here, it is determined that an abnormal output of the exhaust gas sensor is being output during the above-described failure diagnosis period.

If it is determined in step 100 that the sensor abnormal output is not being output, that is, if it is not during the failure diagnosis period, main feedback control based on the output of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 is executed (step 102). Then, in order to correct the content of the main feedback control, the sub feedback control based on the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18 is executed (step 104).

(Main feedback control with sub feedback control)
FIG. 5 is a flowchart of a routine executed by the ECU 20 in response to the processing of steps 102 and 104 described above. In the routine shown in FIG. 5, first, the output A / Fs of the main A / F sensor 16 is detected (step 200). Next, the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18 is detected (step 202), and the sub feedback correction amount Vsfb is calculated based on the output Vox (step 204).

Specifically, in step 204, first, an output deviation Dvox = Voxref−Vox between the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18 and the target voltage Voxref of the sub feedback is calculated. Then, the proportional term Dvox · GainP obtained by multiplying the output deviation Dvox by the proportional gain GainP, and the integral term Sumvox · GainI obtained by multiplying the integral value of the output deviation Dvox by the integral gain GainI are calculated. Then, by adding them, the sub feedback correction amount Vsfb = Dvox · GainP + Sumvox · GainI is calculated.

Next, the correction voltage value Vfb is calculated by adding the output A / Fs of the main A / F sensor 16 and the sub feedback correction amount Vsfb (step 206). Next, a corrected air-fuel ratio eabyf corresponding to the corrected voltage value Vfb is calculated (step 208). The ECU 20 stores a map that defines the relationship between the corrected voltage value Vfb and the corrected air-fuel ratio eabyf. Here, the corrected air-fuel ratio eabyf is calculated according to the map.

Next, the corrected injection amount K A is calculated by the main feedback controller 40 so as to set the corrected air-fuel ratio eabyf as the target air-fuel ratio (theoretical air-fuel ratio) (step 210). Then, the base injection amount is calculated (step 212), by correcting the correction injection amount K A the base injection amount, the final fuel injection amount is calculated (step 214).

According to the main feedback control described above, the fuel injection amount is controlled so that the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing into the upstream catalyst 12 matches the target air-fuel ratio with the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio (stoichiometric) as the control center. . Further, according to the sub-feedback control, more specifically, the exhaust gas flowing downstream of the upstream catalyst 12 is disposed downstream of the upstream catalyst 12 so that the air-fuel ratio becomes the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. The content of the main feedback control is corrected so that the output of the sub O 2 sensor 18 becomes a stoichiometric output. According to these controls, the fuel injection amount is appropriately corrected as needed, the air-fuel ratio downstream of the upstream catalyst 12 can be accurately maintained at a value close to the stoichiometric value, and excellent exhaust purification performance can be obtained.

On the other hand, in the routine shown in FIG. 4, when it is determined in step 100 that the sensor abnormality is being output, that is, during the failure diagnosis period, main feedback control with sub feedback control is prohibited. Along with (Step 106), second feedback control based on the output of the sub O 2 sensor 18 is executed (Step 108). According to the second feedback control, the fuel injection amount is controlled so that the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing out downstream of the upstream catalyst 12 matches the target air-fuel ratio with the theoretical air-fuel ratio as the control center. .

(Second feedback control using sub O 2 sensor)
FIG. 6 is a flowchart of a routine executed by the ECU 20 in response to the processing of steps 106 and 108 described above. In the routine shown in FIG. 6, first, the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18 is detected (step 300). Next, a second feedback correction amount KPI is calculated based on the output Vox (step 302).

Specifically, in step 302, first, an output deviation Dvox = Voxref−Vox between the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18 and the target voltage Voxref of the sub feedback is calculated. Then, a proportional term Dvox · GainP ′ obtained by multiplying the output deviation Dvox by the proportional gain GainP ′ and an integral term Sumvox · GainI ′ obtained by multiplying the integral value of the output deviation Dvox by the integral gain GainI ′ are calculated. Then, by adding them, the second sub-feedback correction amount K PI = Dvox · GainP ′ + Sumvox · GainI ′ is calculated.

Next, the second sub-feedback correction amount K PI is converted into the correction injection amount K B (step 304), then the base injection amount is calculated (step 306). Then, by correcting the base injection amount is corrected injection amount K B, the final fuel injection amount is calculated (step 308).

FIG. 7 is a timing chart for explaining the outline of the operation by the second feedback control. More specifically, FIG. 7A shows the waveform of the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18, and FIG. 7B shows the waveform of the second feedback correction amount KPI . In the second feedback control, as shown in FIG. 7, when the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18 is compared with the target voltage (stoichiometric output) Voxref, the current output Vox is on the rich side with respect to stoichiometry. In order to reduce the fuel injection amount, the second feedback correction amount KPI is set to a value smaller than zero. On the other hand, when the current output Vox is leaner than the stoichiometry, the second feedback correction amount KPI is set to a value larger than zero in order to increase the fuel injection amount.

When the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing out from the upstream catalyst 12 changes in the vicinity of the theoretical air-fuel ratio, the sub O 2 sensor 18 has a rich-side upper limit value of about 0.8 [v] and 0.2 [ The output Vox is sensitively changed between the lower limit of the lean side of about v]. For this reason, if the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing into the upstream catalyst 12 is deviated to the rich side or the lean side, the output Vox of the sub O 2 sensor 18 is detected when the influence of the deviation is detected. 0.8 [v]) or suddenly change toward the lean side lower limit (0.2 [v]).

Since the above proportional term Test Forum 1 · GaInP 'is a value corresponding to the output deviation Test Forum 1, at the time of reversal of the output Vox, as shown in FIG. 7 (B), the feedback correction amount K PI is the proportional term Test Forum 1 · GaInP The value is skipped to the value on the increase side or the decrease side. Thus, according to the proportional term Test Forum 1 · GaInP ', it can be reflected directly to the feedback correction amount K PI of modifying the magnitude of the output deviation Test Forum 1.

The integral term Sumvox · GainI ′ is a value corresponding to the output deviation integrated value Sumvox, and the exhaust air / fuel ratio downstream of the upstream catalyst 12 is independent of what value the output Vox shows as an instantaneous value. Represents the deviation from the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. For this reason, as shown in FIG. 7B, the feedback correction amount K PI is set to the current output deviation Dvox by the action of the integral term Sumvox · GainI ′ until the output Vox reaches the next inversion time. Is gradually increased or decreased in the direction of canceling. Thus, according to the integral term Sumvox · GainI ′, correction for converging the center of fluctuation of the air-fuel ratio to the theoretical air-fuel ratio can be realized without being influenced by the instantaneous air-fuel ratio.

For this reason, according to the second feedback control described above, the air-fuel ratio of the air-fuel ratio using the sub O 2 sensor 18 can be reduced even in a situation where the output of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 cannot be used as the basis of the feedback control of the air-fuel ratio. By continuing the feedback control, the fuel injection amount can be appropriately corrected as needed, and the air-fuel ratio downstream of the upstream catalyst 12 can be accurately maintained at a value close to the stoichiometric value.

According to the routine shown in FIG. 4 described above, during the failure diagnosis of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16, the main feedback control with the sub feedback control is switched to the second feedback control using the sub O 2 sensor 18. As a result, the air-fuel ratio feedback control is continuously executed even during failure diagnosis. For this reason, according to the system of the present embodiment, it is possible to satisfactorily reduce the deterioration of the exhaust gas emission characteristics due to the execution of the fault diagnosis of the exhaust gas sensor.

The sub O 2 sensor 18 disposed downstream of the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16 detects the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas at a timing delayed from the main air-fuel ratio sensor 16. Second second feedback correction amount in the feedback control K PI proportional gain P is used to calculate a 'and the integral term gain GAINI', as described above, in proportion to be used in the main feedback controller 40 in the main feedback control It is set to a smaller value than the term gain Gp mfb and the integral term gain Gi mfb . For this reason, according to such gain setting, it is possible to appropriately set the gain used for air-fuel ratio feedback control in consideration of the difference in the arrival timing of the exhaust gas accompanying the difference in the location of the sensor.

By the way, in the first embodiment described above, the sensor arranged upstream of the upstream catalyst 12 is an A / F sensor, and the sensor arranged downstream thereof is an oxygen sensor. Sensors that can be used are not limited to these combinations. That is, these sensors may be any sensors as long as they detect exhaust gas characteristics as a basis for feedback control, such as an A / F sensor, an oxygen sensor, a NOx sensor, and an HC sensor.
