Description

The present invention relates to a navigation system, method, and program, and more particularly, to a navigation system, method, and program incorporated in a mobile terminal device such as a mobile phone.

Mobile terminals using the GPS function are becoming popular. However, a cellular phone having a GPS function increases power consumption and battery consumption by operating the GPS engine. For this reason, it is important to suppress an increase in power consumption when performing navigation with a mobile phone using the GPS function. However, if too low power consumption is taken into account, user convenience is impaired.

For example, when a user who owns a mobile terminal such as a mobile phone goes out to a predetermined destination using transportation, first, a route search to the destination is performed using the GPS function, and the current location is determined according to the search. To the nearest transportation departure station. In order to reduce power consumption, the route guidance (navigation) is once ended there, and the route from the arrival station to the destination is again given after reaching the nearest station using the transportation system. In this case, unless the user starts the start of guidance on the mobile terminal, the route guidance is not resumed, and a long waiting time is required for the resume. In this way, once you finish route guidance at the nearest station, if you keep using the GPS function while using transportation and leave the GPS function turned on, the continuous use time of the mobile terminal will be shortened Because.

Patent Document 1 describes a PHS terminal device that automatically turns on and off a built-in GPS receiver (GPS engine) in order to suppress battery consumption of a PHS terminal device having a GPS function. In the terminal device described in the patent document, it is not necessary to use the GPS function when the terminal device is present in a call area of a specific base station such as a home. When the terminal device is not present in the call area of a specific base station, the GPS receiver is automatically turned on to perform positioning using the GPS function.

Have The GPS function 15 includes software (GPS application) that receives GPS assist data and executes navigation, and a GPS engine (positioning device) that obtains position data from the received GPS assist data.

FIG. 2 is a block diagram illustrating a configuration of the navigation system 20 in the terminal device 13. The system 20 includes an assist signal receiving unit 21 that receives a positioning assist signal, a memory 22 that stores the received positioning assist signal, and a GPS engine (positioning device) 24 based on the positioning assist signal to operate the terminal device 13. Position detecting means 23 for detecting the position data, GPS engine 24, route searching means 25 for searching for a route based on the position data detected by the position detecting means 23 and the inputted destination, route searching means The display unit 28 displays the route searched in 25 for navigation for the user, the display unit 28 for displaying a map for navigation, the current position of the mobile terminal 13 and the route search unit 25. Compared with the position data of the predetermined position on the route searched in, whether or not it is near the predetermined position A determination unit 26, and a base station switching detection means 29 for detecting the switching of the base station communicating with the mobile terminal 13.

The navigation system 20 is configured by a program in the GPS application except for the positioning device 24 and the display means 28. The determination means 26 may have a power cutoff function, or a power cutoff means may be attached separately.

The owner (user) of the mobile terminal 13 activates the GPS application on the mobile terminal 13 as desired, inputs the destination on the map shown on the display means 28 or by a place name, etc. Let 25 search for the route to the destination. In this route search, the GPS engine 24 processes the GPS assist data stored in the memory 22 and measures the current position of the current mobile terminal 13. When a route using a public institution (train) from the current location to the destination is searched and the user selects this guided route, the navigation means 27 in the GPS application is activated. The display unit 28 displays a map including the searched route.

The user uses the normal route guidance function to follow the route guidance to the nearest station where the user boardes first. When arriving at the nearest station of the transportation facility, the judging means 26 compares the position data of the current position with the position data of the nearest station existing on the route, and judges whether or not it is near the nearest station. As a result of the determination, if it is near the nearest station, the power of the GPS engine 24 is once turned off and the navigation means 27 is stopped. After that, when the base station switching detection means 29 detects that the Cell ID indicating the communication area of the mobile communication system has been switched, the GPS signal is received by the assist signal receiving means 21 for each detection. Further, it is searched whether or not the user has approached the destination (arrival station). When the GPS application determines that the determination unit 26 has approached the vicinity of the arrival station, the GPS application 24 is turned on again, the navigation unit 27 is activated, and navigation is resumed.

FIG. 3 is a flowchart for explaining navigation processing in the terminal of the embodiment. First, when the user instructs to start a route search, the GPS application turns on the power of the GPS engine 24, activates the navigation means 27, and starts navigation (step S1). During this navigation, the determination means 26 determines whether or not the closest station searched for the route earlier has been approached (step S2). If it is not near the nearest station, the position detecting means 23 performs GPS positioning using the GPS engine 24, and navigation is continued (step S3). If it is determined in step S2 that the determination unit 26 has approached the vicinity of the nearest station, the process proceeds to step S4 and the power of the GPS engine 24 is turned off.

While the user is moving from the nearest station using transportation, the base station switching detection means 29 determines whether the base station of the mobile telephone system has changed based on the Cell ID of the mobile communication system detected by the mobile terminal reception function 14. Detect whether or not. When the Cell ID changes, the base station switching detecting means 29 notifies the assist signal receiving means 21 to that effect, receives GPS assist data, and stores it in the memory 22 (step S5). The determination means 26 determines whether or not the arrival station near the destination is approached (step S6). If it is determined that the arrival station is not yet close to the arrival station, the determination means 26 moves to step S7, and the mobile terminal reception function 14 After receiving the ID, the process returns to step S5. In step S5, when the base station switching detecting means 29 checks the change in Cell ID and detects the change in Cell ID, the positioning assist signal receiving means 21 receives GPS assist data and stores it in the memory 22.

If the determination means 26 determines in step S6 that it has approached the arrival station, it proceeds to step S8, turns on the GPS engine 24, activates the navigation means 27, and resumes navigation. The GPS engine 24 performs positioning based on the GPS assist data stored in the memory 22, and the position detection unit causes the display unit 28 to display this via the navigation unit 27. The navigation unit 27 performs navigation based on the measured position data. When resuming navigation at the arrival station, necessary GPS assist data is prepared, so that the start of resuming navigation is performed quickly.

In the above embodiment, an example in which the GPS function is used for positioning has been described, but the positioning is not limited to the GPS function.
