The present invention relates to a redispersible acrylic synthetic resin emulsion powder composition. Specifically, the present invention relates to a redispersible acrylic synthetic resin emulsion powder composition having excellent redispersibility and excellent water resistance of a coating film. The present invention also relates to a method for producing such an emulsion powder composition.
Background Art A redispersible synthetic resin emulsion powder is produced by drying (for example, spray drying) a synthetic resin emulsion. Since it is a powder, it is easier to handle than a synthetic resin emulsion. Convenient for transportation. In addition, this redispersible emulsion powder can be re-dispersed in water simply by adding it to water and stirring at the time of use, so it can be mixed into cement products such as adhesives, putty, paint binders, concrete structures, and mortar. It can be widely used as an agent. In particular, the redispersible emulsion powder can be pre-mixed with an inorganic hydraulic composition such as cement or gypsum, so that cement or gypsum products such as mortar or concrete can be formed by simply adding water on site. Can do.
In general, many of the known synthetic resin emulsion powders that can be re-dispersed in water use water-soluble polymers as protective colloids (emulsifiers) and vinyl esters as the main component because of the need to re-disperse. It is obtained by emulsion polymerization using a monomer of the type (for example, JP-A-5-179008 (Patent Document 1), JP-A-5-140325 (Patent Document 2)).
However, vinyl-based synthetic resin emulsion powders that use water-soluble polymers as such protective colloids usually do not have sufficient water resistance of the formed coating, and in particular modify inorganic hydraulic materials such as cement. In the case of adding to, the applied physical properties when wet were insufficient.
The present inventor has now used polyvinyl alcohol as an emulsifier and emulsion polymerization of an acrylic monomer to produce a synthetic resin emulsion. In addition, when emulsion polymerization was carried out by further adding a specific functional monomer, a redispersible synthetic resin emulsion powder composition with further improved physical properties during redispersion and further improved water resistance of the formed film was obtained. I was able to get it. The present invention is based on such knowledge.
Therefore, in the present invention, the physical properties when redispersed in water are almost the same as those of the emulsion before being powdered, and the water resistance of the film formed by the emulsion obtained by redispersion is improved.
Redispersible acrylic synthetic resin emulsion powder composition The redispersible synthetic resin emulsion powder composition according to the present invention comprises an acrylic monomer and a functional monomer as monomer components. System synthetic resin emulsion powder.
Here, the “redispersible” emulsion powder composition refers to a powder capable of producing an emulsion when redispersed in an aqueous medium (for example, water).
Polyvinyl alcohol In the present invention, polyvinyl alcohol (hereinafter sometimes referred to as “PVA”) is used as an emulsifier (or protective colloid) for emulsion polymerization. In the present invention, it is important that the degree of saponification and average degree of polymerization of PVA are within specific ranges.
In the present invention, the saponification degree of polyvinyl alcohol used as an emulsifier is at least 85 to 99.5 mol%, preferably 95 to 99 mol%. When the degree of saponification of PVA is less than 85 mol%, the polymerization may not easily proceed stably, and even when the polymerization is completed, the storage stability of the aqueous emulsion may not be good. When the degree of saponification of PVA exceeds 99.5 mol%, it may be difficult to redisperse.
In the present specification, the saponification degree can be measured and determined by a conventional method. For example, it can be determined according to the saponification degree calculation method described in JIS K6726.
Moreover, the average polymerization degree of the polyvinyl alcohol used as an emulsifier is at least 200 to 1000, preferably 200 to 500. When the average degree of polymerization of PVA is less than 200, the protective colloid ability at the time of emulsion polymerization may not be sufficient, and the polymerization may not proceed stably. When the average degree of polymerization exceeds 1000, the reaction system may become unstable due to thickening during polymerization, or the redispersibility may be lowered.
In the present specification, the average degree of polymerization can be measured and determined by a conventional method. For example, it can be determined according to the method for calculating the average degree of polymerization described in JIS K6726.
In this invention, it is preferable that the usage-amount of polyvinyl alcohol is 3-30 weight% with respect to the total amount of monomers used, More preferably, it is 5-20 weight%. If it is less than 3% by weight, the amount of emulsifier during emulsion polymerization becomes insufficient, and the polymerization stability may be poor. When the amount is more than 30% by weight, the redispersibility is good, but a lot of water-soluble components are present in the powder, and the water resistance in application may be lowered.
According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the polyvinyl alcohol comprises at least a modified polyvinyl alcohol selected from the group consisting of acetoacetylated polyvinyl alcohol, carboxyl-modified polyvinyl alcohol, and sulfonic acid-modified polyvinyl alcohol. By using the modified polyvinyl alcohol, the polymerization stability can be improved and the redispersibility of the emulsion powder can be improved. In addition, emulsion powder using modified polyvinyl alcohol has excellent secondary physical properties such as fluidity when mixed with water and adhesiveness when wet when it is added to a hydraulic material such as cement. Yes.
More preferably, the modified polyvinyl alcohol comprises at least acetoacetylated polyvinyl alcohol. When acetoacetylated polyvinyl alcohol is used, the reactivity of the acrylic monomer is improved, and a synthetic resin emulsion excellent in polymerization stability can be produced. Moreover, when acetoacetylated polyvinyl alcohol is used, the redispersibility of the resulting emulsion powder composition can be improved.
In the present invention, the modified polyvinyl alcohol has a modified group such as an acetoacetyl group and a carboxyl group present on the polyvinyl alcohol molecule in the molecule rather than the one in which the modified group is disposed in a fixed region in the molecule. Those arranged relatively randomly are more preferable. Further, for example, the acetoacetylated polyvinyl alcohol (AA-modified PVA) to be used preferably has a degree of acetoacetylation of about 0.5 mol%.
When using modified polyvinyl alcohol, it is preferable that the usage-amount is 5-95 weight% with respect to the total amount of polyvinyl alcohol to be used. At this time, when the usage-amount of modified PVA is less than 5 weight%, there exists a possibility that the effect by modified PVA may not be show | played substantially.
In the present invention, polyvinyl alcohol is usually made into an aqueous solution using an aqueous medium, and this is used in the process of emulsion polymerization. Here, the aqueous medium refers to water or an alcoholic solvent mainly composed of water, preferably water. The amount of polyvinyl alcohol (in terms of non-volatile content) in this aqueous solution is not particularly limited, but is preferably 5 to 30% by weight from the viewpoint of ease of handling.

Specific examples include a combination of methyl methacrylate / butyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate / 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate / butyl acrylate / 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, and the like.
In the present invention, the acrylic monomer is a main component constituting the polymer, and the amount used is preferably 50% by weight or more, more preferably 90% by weight, based on the total monomers. It is. If the amount used is less than 50% by weight, the desired water resistance and weather resistance may be insufficient.

According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the functional monomer is selected from the group consisting of (a) a glycidyl group-containing monomer, (c) a hydrolyzable silyl group-containing monomer, and (d) an acetoacetyl group-containing monomer. .
According to a more preferred embodiment of the present invention, the functional monomer comprises at least a glycidyl group-containing monomer.
It is preferable that the usage-amount of a functional monomer is 0.05-5 weight% with respect to all the monomers, More preferably, it is 0.1-1 weight%. If the amount used is less than 0.1% by weight, the improvement of water resistance and wet adhesion may be insufficient. On the other hand, when the amount used is more than 10% by weight, the polymerization may be poor or the redispersibility may be lowered.
In the present invention, in the emulsion polymerization, in addition to the acrylic monomer and the functional monomer, a copolymerizable monomer can be further used for emulsion polymerization.
Here, the copolymerizable monomer is not particularly limited as long as it can be used for ordinary emulsion polymerization, and examples thereof include olefin monomers such as ethylene; styrene, α-methylstyrene, vinyltoluene, and the like. Styrene-based monomers; vinyl acetate, vinyl propionate, vinyl versatate, vinyl laurate, vinyl stearate, etc .; and vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, maleic acid And ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids such as itaconic acid and crotonic acid.
Preferable examples of the copolymerizable monomer include vinyl acetate and vinyl versatate.
When a copolymerizable monomer is used, the amount used is preferably less than 50% by weight, more preferably 10% by weight or less, based on the total monomers.
Other Components In the redispersible synthetic resin emulsion powder composition according to the present invention, other components can be further used as necessary in addition to the monomer components such as the acrylic monomer and the functional monomer. Such other components are not particularly limited as long as the properties of the emulsion powder composition are not deteriorated, and can be appropriately selected according to the purpose. Examples of other components include a polymerization initiator, a polymerization regulator, and an auxiliary emulsifier.
Any polymerization initiator can be used without particular limitation as long as it can be used for ordinary emulsion polymerization. For example, inorganic peroxides such as potassium persulfate, sodium persulfate, and ammonium persulfate; organic peroxides, azo initiators Agents, peroxides such as hydrogen peroxide and butyl peroxide; and redox polymerization initiators combining these with reducing agents such as acidic sodium sulfite and L-ascorbic acid. Two or more of these may be used in combination. In the present invention, among these, ammonium persulfate and potassium persulfate are preferable from the viewpoint of easy polymerization without adversely affecting the film properties and strength enhancement.
There is no restriction | limiting in particular as a polymerization regulator, It can select suitably from well-known things. Examples of such a polymerization regulator include a chain transfer agent and a buffer.
Here, examples of the chain transfer agent include alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, and butanol; And mercaptans such as dodecyl mercaptan, lauryl mercaptan, normal mercaptan, thioglycolic acid, octyl thioglycolate, and thioglycerol. Two or more of these may be used in combination. The use of a chain transfer agent is effective in terms of stable polymerization, but reduces the degree of polymerization of the acrylic polymer, so the water resistance of the resulting emulsion, especially wet adhesion of hydraulic materials such as cement. May not improve. For this reason, when using a chain transfer agent, it is desirable to keep the amount used as low as possible.
Here, examples of the buffer include sodium acetate, ammonium acetate, and dibasic sodium phosphate. Two or more of these may be used in combination.
Any auxiliary emulsifier can be used as long as it is known to those skilled in the art as being usable for emulsion polymerization. Therefore, the auxiliary emulsifier is appropriately selected from known ones such as anionic, cationic, and nonionic surfactants, water-soluble polymers having protective colloid ability other than PVA, and water-soluble oligomers. Can do.
Preferred specific examples of the surfactant include anionic surfactants such as sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate, and nonionic properties such as those having a pluronic type structure and those having a polyoxyethylene type structure. Surfactant is mentioned. A reactive surfactant having a radical polymerizable unsaturated bond in the structure can also be used as the surfactant. However, if these surfactants are used in large amounts as emulsifiers, the particles may coagulate during drying, and the redispersibility may be reduced. For this reason, when using a surfactant, it is desirable that the amount used is an auxiliary amount to PVA, that is, as small as possible.
Examples of the water-soluble polymer having protective colloid ability other than PVA include hydroxyethyl cellulose, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and methyl cellulose. These are effective in changing the viscosity when the resulting redispersible emulsion powder composition is redispersed and used. However, since the redispersibility of the emulsion powder composition may be lowered depending on the amount used, it is desirable to use it in such an amount that the redispersibility of the emulsion powder composition is not lowered.
As the water-soluble oligomer, for example, a polymer or copolymer having a hydrophilic group such as a sulfonic acid group, a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group, and an alkylene glycol group and having a degree of polymerization of about 10 to 500 is preferably exemplified. Specific examples of water-soluble oligomers include amide copolymers such as 2-methacrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid copolymer, sodium methacrylate-4-styrenesulfonate copolymer, styrene / maleic acid copolymer. , Melamine sulfonic acid formaldehyde condensate, poly (meth) acrylate, and the like. Furthermore, specific examples include a monomer having a sulfonic acid group, a carboxyl group, a hydroxyl group, an alkylene glycol group, and a water-soluble oligomer obtained by copolymerizing a radical polymerizable reactive emulsifier alone or in advance with another monomer. It is done. Among these, in the present invention, 2-methacrylamide-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid copolymer, sodium methacrylate-4-styrenesulfonate are preferred in view of imparting redispersibility and mixing stability with inorganic hydraulic components. A copolymer is preferred. As the water-soluble oligomer, those previously polymerized before starting the emulsion polymerization may be used, or commercially available products may be used. Two or more of these may be used in combination.
The amount of these other components used is not particularly limited as long as the object of the present invention is not impaired, and can be appropriately selected according to the object.
Production of Emulsion Powder Composition As described above , the emulsion powder composition according to the present invention is obtained by emulsion polymerization of an acrylic monomer and a functional monomer using polyvinyl alcohol as an emulsifier to obtain an acrylic synthetic resin emulsion. It can be manufactured by drying it.
Emulsion polymerization The method of emulsion polymerization is not particularly limited. For example, a batch emulsion polymerization method in which all of water, an emulsifier, and a monomer are charged into a polymerization can, and the temperature is raised, and a polymerization initiator is appropriately added to advance the polymerization. A monomer dropping type emulsion polymerization method in which water and an emulsifier are charged into a polymerization can, and the temperature is increased to drop the monomer; and an emulsion monomer dropping method in which the dropping monomer is pre-emulsified with an emulsifier and water and then dropped. Examples thereof include an emulsion polymerization method.
The monomer and other components used for the polymerization can be appropriately selected from the monomers and / or components described above. Usually, the emulsion polymerization is carried out using other components such as a polymerization initiator, a polymerization regulator, an auxiliary emulsifier and the like as required in addition to the emulsifier and the monomer component. The polymerization reaction conditions are not particularly limited and can be appropriately selected depending on the type and purpose of the copolymerization component.
The emulsion polymerization process will be described more specifically as follows. First, an emulsifier and, if necessary, an auxiliary emulsifier are charged into a reaction can, and this is heated (for example, 65 to 80 ° C.), and then a part of the monomer components and a polymerization initiator are added to the reaction can to perform initial polymerization. To implement. Next, the remaining monomer components are added to the reaction can in one batch or dropwise, and polymerization is allowed to proceed while adding a polymerization initiator as necessary. When it is determined that the polymerization reaction is completed, the reaction can is cooled, and the target synthetic resin emulsion can be taken out.
In the present invention, the synthetic resin emulsion obtained by emulsion polymerization is typically a uniform milky white, and its average particle size is 0.2 to 2.0 μm (preferably 0.3 to 1.5 μm). is there. Here, the average particle size of the emulsion can be measured by a conventional method, for example, a laser analysis / scattering particle size distribution measuring apparatus LA-910 (manufactured by Horiba, Ltd.).
In this invention, you may further add an additive to the synthetic resin emulsion after emulsion polymerization as needed. Examples of such additives include organic pigments, inorganic pigments, water-soluble additives, pH adjusters, preservatives, and antioxidants.
The water-soluble additive is added for the purpose of improving the redispersibility of the emulsion powder composition in water when the redispersible emulsion powder composition of the present invention is dispersed in water. When the water-soluble additive is used, the water-soluble additive is usually added to the synthetic resin emulsion after emulsion polymerization and before drying. The amount of the water-soluble additive used is preferably 2 to 50% by weight based on the solid content of the aqueous emulsion before drying. If the amount used exceeds 50% by weight, the water resistance of the redispersible emulsion powder composition may be insufficient, and if it is less than 2% by weight, the redispersibility may not be sufficiently improved.
Examples of water-soluble additives include polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxyethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose, starch derivatives, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, polyethylene oxide, water-soluble alkyd resins, water-soluble phenol resins, water-soluble urea resins, water-soluble melamine resins, and water-soluble guanamine resins. Water-soluble naphthalene sulfonic acid resin, water-soluble amino resin, water-soluble polyamide resin, water-soluble acrylic resin, water-soluble polycarboxylic acid resin, water-soluble polyester resin, water-soluble polyurethane resin, water-soluble polyol resin, and water-soluble epoxy Resin etc. are mentioned. Two or more of these may be used in combination.
Among these, polyvinyl alcohol is effective for improving redispersion. The polyvinyl alcohol used may be the same as that used as an emulsifier in the emulsion polymerization process, or may be different. Polyvinyl alcohol having a high degree of polymerization cannot be used during the polymerization because of its polymerization stability, but such a polyvinyl alcohol can be used without any problem as long as it is added after polymerization. However, those having low solubility in water may adversely affect redispersibility, so it is desirable to use them after confirming the solubility in water in advance.
In the present invention, the acrylic synthetic resin emulsion obtained by the emulsion polymerization is dried to obtain a redispersible acrylic synthetic resin emulsion powder composition.
The drying method is not particularly limited, and examples thereof include spray drying, freeze drying, and hot air drying after coagulation. Among these, spray drying is preferable from the viewpoint of production cost, energy saving, and re-emulsification of the obtained powder.
In the case of spray-drying, the spraying form is not particularly limited, and for example, it can be carried out by a disk type, a nozzle type or the like. Examples of the heat source for spray drying include hot air and heated steam. The conditions for spray drying can be appropriately selected according to the size and type of the spray drying group, the concentration of the emulsion, the viscosity, the flow rate, and the like. The temperature of spray drying is typically about 80 to 150 ° C.
The spray drying process will be further explained with specific examples. First, the non-volatile content in the synthetic resin emulsion is adjusted, and this is continuously supplied from the nozzle of the spray dryer, and the mist is pulverized with warm air. Let
In the present invention, the anti-blocking agent can be used in combination by spray-drying and mixing with the emulsion powder, or spraying from a different nozzle from the synthetic resin emulsion during spray-drying. As the anti-blocking agent, known inert inorganic or organic powders such as calcium carbonate, talc, clay, anhydrous silicic acid, aluminum silicate, white carbon, alumina white and the like can be used. Among these, anhydrous silicic acid, aluminum silicate, calcium carbonate and the like are preferable. It is preferable that the usage-amount of an antiblocking agent is about 2 to 30 weight% with respect to the redispersible emulsion powder composition obtained.
