従来の自動取引装置においては、上部に硬貨を複数枚まとめて投入、排出できる箱型の凹部を有する硬貨入出金口を設け、硬貨入出金口に投入された正規の硬貨は、鑑別部等によりこれを鑑別、計数して取引を行い、硬貨入出金口に投入された正規の硬貨以外の指輪等や紙幣入出金口に投入された硬貨等の異物を排出シュータにより異物返却口へ導いて顧客に返却している(例えば、特許文献1参照。)。

しかしながら、上述した従来の技術においては、自動取引装置の操作性は健常者を基準として設定されており、例えば身体障害者等の車椅子を使用する顧客が現金を受取る場合には、紙幣入出金口や硬貨入出金口が装置の奥の比較的高い位置に設けられているため、ほぼ手探り状態で現金の受取りを行わなければならず、特に硬貨の場合は視認が困難であるため、硬貨の取出しに時間を要するという問題がある。
