この発明は、無線通信等の通信回線を介して通信する携帯通信端末及びそのプログラムに関する。

【従来の技術】
従来、携帯電話に様々な機能を搭載した技術としては以下のようなものがある。
特許文献1には、筐体内部に撮像素子を内蔵し、筐体背面から筐体内に指を挿入することで指紋の読み取りをする携帯電話等の携帯情報端末が開示されている。
また、特許文献2には、筐体下部にフリップを設け、そのフリップに液晶表示装置を設けた携帯電話が開示されている。
また、特許文献3には、同じく筐体下部のフリップにハンズフリー用スピーカを備えたもの、特許文献4には、フリップにタブレットを設けた携帯電話が開示されている。

【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上述のような従来の携帯電話では、数字キー等の通話機能にかかる操作部を常に優先し、最も操作が行いやすい位置に配置するとともに、他の機能に対しては、例えば、設計上、オプションの接続が行いやすい筐体下部に各種機能を設けていた。そのため、片手でオプション機能を操作する際やオプション機能を見ながら操作する際には、図22に示すように筐体を持つ手にオプション機能部100が隠れてしまい操作しずらいという問題があった。
この発明は、かかる問題点を解決するためになされたもので、オプション機能を有するユニットを接続した際に、ユーザに対して使いやすいインターフェースを提供する携帯通信端末を得ることを目的とする。

この発明にかかる携帯通信端末は、前記筐体前面に設けられ、ユーザから入力を受け付ける操作部、及び、前記表示装置と前記操作部との間、かつ、前記筐体前面にオプションユニットを装着可能に設けられた装着部、を有する筐体を備えたものである。

【発明の実施の形態】
実施の形態1.
*ハードウェア構成
以下にこの実施の形態のハードウェア構成を説明する。
図1及び図2は、携帯通信端末の一例として携帯電話機を示している。二つ折り携帯電話機の下部筐体1bは、携帯電話機の上部筐体1aとヒンジ2により接続され、上部及び下部筐体1a〜bは、ヒンジ2を中心に回動自在に開閉できる構造になっている。図1は筐体を閉じた状態、また、図2は閉じた状態を示している。ここで、上部及び下部筐体1a〜bのヒンジ側端は、下部筐体1bに接続されたオプションユニット3に覆い被さらないように切り欠き部が設けられている。筐体は、一部を持って操作しやすいように長細い形状をしている。

オプションユニット3は、下部筐体1bの装着部4に着脱可能に保持され、例えば、液晶表示装置、GPS(Global Positioning System)受信機、スキャナ、各種ポインティングデバイス、メモリ、又はそれらの組み合わせ等、携帯通信端末本体に内蔵されていない付加的な機能を実行する回路を備えたユニットである。
また、下部筐体1bは、数字又は文字の入力を受け付ける数字キー5、及び、複数の機能が選択的に割り付けられるファンクションキー9〜10等の入力デバイスも有する。数字キー5は、この発明の操作部の一例であるが、携帯情報端末の文字を入力するキーボード、他の携帯通信端末のポインティングデバイス等、入力時にユーザ側に向く筐体前面に設けられたデータの入力装置であればどのようなものでもかまわない。好ましくは、ユーザがデータ入力時に筐体を保持する部分に設けられた入力装置があれば、使いやすさの効果は高くなる。ファンクションキーの一例として、この実施の形態では、一般にソフトキーと呼ばれるキー9と複数の方向の入力を受け付ける方向キー10、方向キーの中心に設けられた決定キーとを使用している。なお、数字キー5下方にあるいくつかのキーをファンクションキーとして、複数の機能が割り付けられるようにしてもよい。
なお、ここで筐体の上部、下部は、それぞれユーザがデータの入力をする際に上となる部分と下となる部分を指す。

上部筐体1aは、携帯電話機内部で生成した文字、グラフィック情報、又はネットワークを介して外部から取得した情報等を表示する主表示装置6を前面部に有する。主表示装置6としては、例えば、液晶表示デバイスやEL(Electro Luminescence)ディスプレイ等、文字やグラフィック情報を表示できるものであればどのようなものを使用してもよい。
さらに、通話相手の音声を出力するスピーカ7は上部筐体1aの前面上部に位置し、通話者の音声を電気信号に変換するマイク8は下部筐体1bの前面下部に位置する。スピーカ7は、音声通話時に耳に押し当てて使用する場合の他、より大きな音量で音楽を出力することも可能である。さらに、テレビ電話として使用する場合には、通話相手の音声を耳に押し当てて使用する場合より、大きな音量で再生することもできる。また、筐体自体もしくは筐体外部に他のスピーカを有する場合には、音声通話のみに使用されるようにしてもよい。

また、静止画像又は/及び動画像を撮影するカメラ11は、上部筐体1aの背面に配置されるが、上部筐体1a前面部或いは側面部、下部筐体1b前面、側面、或いは背面部、又は、ヒンジ2に設けられてもよい。

次に、オプションユニット3の装着部4について、図3を用いて説明する。図3は、装着部4の部分拡大図である。装着部4は、オプションユニット3を装着可能なように下部筐体1bの前面から背面に貫通する切り欠き部を構成するように設けられる。そして、装着部4は、オプションユニット3の装着を案内すると共に保持するガイドレール4aと、電気信号を伝達する端子を複数備え、オプションユニット3と後述するオプションユニット・インタフェース30を電気的に接続する端子部4bを備える。
オプションユニット3は、ガイドレール4aに対応したガイド溝3aを備え、さらにオプションユニット3内の回路と接続され、装着部の端子部4bに接続されることによりオプションユニット3の内部回路と携帯電話機の内部回路間の通信を中継する端子部3aを備える。アーム部はその中間部にヒンジを有し、上部筐体1aのヒンジを介してアーム部1dと接続する。

オプションユニット3を装着する際には、切り欠き部の両端にある下部筐体1bのアーム部1cに沿って、オプションユニット3を装着する。アーム部1cに設けられたガイドレール4aが、オプションユニット3を正しい位置に案内するため、ユーザが端子部3b、4b同士の位置合わせを正確に行わなくとも、ユニットの装着が容易に行える。

この実施の形態の携帯通信端末によれば、携帯通信端末の筐体前面に設けられた操作部(図2のA)と、この操作部の上部側(図2のB)にオプションユニット3を着脱可能に設けたため、図4に示すように、使用時にオプションユニット3がユーザの手に隠れることが少なく、非常に使いやすいという効果がある。
また、オプションユニット3を筐体を開いたときの筐体中間部(主表示装置6と操作部との間)に接続した。そのため、オプションユニットを筐体の上端に接続し、筐体上部が重くなる場合と比べ、操作部付近を保持したときの安定性が高いという効果がある。

例えば、オプションユニット3として表示装置を接続した場合、ユーザが操作する際には、従来の装置のように、携帯通信端末を持った手に邪魔されずに表示内容を閲覧することができる。
また、オプションユニット3を操作部に隣接して接続可能にしたため、ユーザが触れて操作するオプションユニット3(例えば、ポインティングデバイスや指紋読み取り用のスキャナ)を接続した場合に使いやすい。すなわち、図5のように、数字キー5、方向キー10を操作するポジションから指をずらすだけでオプションユニット3を操作できるため、ユーザは必要に応じて片手でオプションユニット3及び他のキーの操作を行うことができ、非常に使いやすいインタフェースを提供することができる。ここで、”隣接”とは、ユーザが筐体を保持しているとき、操作部とオプションユニット3とを保持した手で同時に操作できる程度の距離関係をいう。

また、オプションユニット3が、図4のように2つ折りの携帯通信端末のヒンジ2の回転軸の軸線上(一点鎖線で示す)に装着されるため、特開2000−69180号公報に記載された携帯電話のように、筐体下部からのはみ出し部分(脱着式カメラ)が大きくならないため、筐体保持や携帯通信端末の操作がしやすいという効果がある。なお、オプションユニット3がヒンジ2近傍で下部筐体1bの上方や横方向にはみ出す分には、筐体下部からはみ出す場合と比べてユーザの筐体保持の邪魔にはならない。
なお、ヒンジ近傍とは、オプションユニット3がヒンジ2の軸線上にかかる場合のみならず、下部筐体1bに設けられた操作部上方から下部筐体1bの上端までの領域をいう。

また、オプションユニット3は、ヒンジ近傍であって筐体を閉じた状態でも開いた状態でも見える位置(外部に現れる位置)に装着されるため、筐体の開閉にかかわらずオプションユニット3を使用することができるという効果がある。この実施の形態では、上部筐体1aのヒンジ側端であって、筐体を閉じた状態と開いた状態でオプションユニット3に重なる位置に切り欠き部を設けた。

*オプションユニット装着時の動作
次に、この実施の形態のオプションユニット3装着時の動作について説明する。
図6は、この実施の形態の携帯通信端末の詳細を示す機能ブロック図である。それぞれのブロックについては、公知の回路や素子を使用することができる。
MPU21(Micro Processing Unit)は、各デバイスの動作を制御する機能を持ち、バスを介してビデオ回路22、I/O(Input and Output)コントローラ23、メモリ29、送受信回路26、音声デコーダ/エンコーダ28に接続されている。MPU21は携帯通信端末の動作を制御する制御装置の一例であり、他の制御手段やプロセッサを使用することもできる。ビデオ回路22は、図示しないビデオメモリを備え、主表示装置6を電気的に駆動する。ビデオ回路22は主表示装置6を制御することができる。主表示装置6は、ビデオ回路22からの制御信号に従って文字、静止画像、動画などの映像を表示する。

I/Oコントローラ23は、各種デバイスからの入力信号をMPU21へ送信し、またMPU21から各種デバイスへの出力信号を送信する入出力処理を行うコントローラである。開閉センサ25は、筐体の開閉を検知する接触スイッチ、光センサ等のセンサである。例えば、筐体が閉じた場合に、下部筐体1bに設けられたスイッチが上部筐体1aによって押され開閉を検知するようにすることができる。複数の操作ボタンは、それぞれ対応する機能や文字が割り付けられており、それぞれ入力デバイスとして使用される。操作ボタンインタフェース24は、どの操作ボタンが操作されたかを検出する。ここで、操作ボタンには、数字キー5、ファンクションキー9、10が含まれる。

送受信回路26は、アンテナ27を介した音声やデータの通信を行う回路である。アンテナ27は、この実施の形態では、下部筐体1b内に内蔵されているが、筐体外部に設けてもよい。送受信回路26は様々な種類の回路が知られており、既に広く普及しているPDC(Personal Degital Cellular)、GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications)、CDMA(Code Division Multiple Access)方式、或いは、次世代の通信方式、W−CDMA(Wide−band Code Division Multiple Access)、cdma2000方式等の通信方式用の送受信回路を使用することができる。音声デコーダ/エンコーダ28は、マイク8により取得された音声信号を符号化するエンコーダと、送受信回路26で受信した符号化されたデータを音声信号にデコードするデコーダとを有する回路である。音声の符号化方式としては、CELP(Code Exited Linear Prediction)方式の符号化方式が広く知られている。音声デコーダ/エンコーダ28でデコードされた音声信号は、スピーカ7を介して再生される。なお、スピーカ7は、音声信号に限らず、図示しないシンセサイザ回路で生成された電気信号によって音楽、効果音を再生することができる。メモリ29は各種プログラム及びデータを記憶する。メモリの種類(揮発性メモリ、不揮発性メモリ等)は、データの種類に応じて適切なものを使用する。オプションユニット・インタフェース30は、オプションユニット3からの信号を受信するとともに、オプションユニット3への制御信号を送信する。

なお、上述の回路構成は一例であり、公知のいかなる携帯電話や携帯型で通信機能を有するコンピュータの回路や素子を使用してもよい。例えば、複数のブロックを1つのIC(Integrated Circuit)に統合することにより、小型化を図ることができる。

次に、図7を用いて、オプションユニット3装着時の動作について具体例を説明する。図7は、主表示装置6の表示内容の移り変わりを示している。
まず、図7(a)に示すように携帯電話機が待ち受け状態であるとき、ユーザが方向キー10を押下すると、この方向キー10に割り当てられた機能が以下のように自動的に選択され呼び出される。
(1)GPSユニット
GPSユニットが接続している場合には、図7(b)に示すようにGPSユニットに関連づけられたナビゲーションのアプリケーションプログラムが実行され、そのソフトウェアは主表示装置6に実行結果を表示する。
(2)スキャナユニット
指紋読み取り用のスキャナユニットが接続している場合には、図7(c)に示すようにスキャナユニットに関連づけられた指紋読み取りのアプリケーションプログラムが実行され、実行結果が主表示装置6に表示される。
(3)スピーカユニット
スピーカユニットが接続している場合には、図7(d)に示すようにスピーカユニットに関連づけられた音楽再生のアプリケーションプログラムが実行され、実行結果が主表示装置6に表示される。
以上のように、1つのボタンを押下した場合でも、携帯通信端末が接続しているオプションユニット3の種別に応じたアプリケーションプログラムを自動的に選択するため、ユーザにとって操作が簡単なインタフェースを提供することができる。

次に、MPU21が実行するソフトウェアの詳細について図8及び図9を参照して説明する。
まず、ユーザがオプションユニット3を装着部4に装着すると(図8のステップS10)、MPU21は、オプションユニット・インタフェース30から送られる端子部4bの信号に基づいて、オプションユニット3が装着されたか否かを検知する(ステップS11)。もし、装着されていないと判断した場合は、MPU21は他の処理を行うと共に、定期的にこのステップS11からの処理を実行する。

一方、オプションユニット3が装着されていると判断した場合には、MPU21は、オプションユニット3から送信される種別信号に基づいて、オプションユニット3の種類を認識する(ステップS12)。
次に、MPU21は、認識結果に基づき、種別に対応したアプリケーションプログラムをファンクションキー(この例では、方向キー10)へ割り当てる(ステップS13)。例えば、ファンクションキーと対応するプログラムのアドレスとを対応させてメモリ29に記憶し、割り当てを変更する場合には、MPU21はアドレスを新しいプログラムのアドレスに書き換える。

MPU21は、ユーザによる操作が行われておらず、電話の着信を待っている状態であるとき待ち受け画面の表示を行う(ステップS21)。なお、このステップSで実行される処理は、待ち受け画面表示以外の他の処理(例えば、メニュー表示等)であってもよい。
続いて、MPU21は、操作ボタンインタフェース24からの信号に基づいて、ファンクションキー(この例では、方向キー10)が押されたかを判定する(ステップS22)。ここで、押されていない場合にはステップS21の処理に戻る。

次に、装着されたオプションユニット3の種類に応じて、自動的にソフトキーに対応するアイコンを変更する実施の形態について説明する。
図10は、この実施の形態における主表示装置6の表示内容の移り変わりを示している。まず、例えば、主表示装置6に待ち受け画面が表示されており、かつ、オプションユニット3が装着されていない場合には、MPU21は、右側のソフトキー9に対応するアイコン6aを空白にする。なお、他の機能を割り当てたり、アイコン6a自体を表示しないようにしてもよい。また、図10(a)の画面は待ち受け画面以外であってもよい。

この状態から、ユーザがオプションユニット3を装着すると、MPU21が図8で説明したようにオプションユニット3の種類の検知及びソフトキー9への機能の割り当てを実行する。
このとき、MPU21はソフトキー9に割り当てられた機能に応じて、画面表示を図10の(b)又は(c)のように変更する(図8のステップS14)。例えば、GPSユニットが装着された場合には、図10(b)に示すように、MPU21はアイコン6aを「ナビ」と表示する。一方、スピーカユニットが装着された場合には、MPU21はアイコン6aを音楽再生プログラムを象徴する「♪」に変更する。

実施の形態3.
次に、携帯通信端末がオプションユニット3の種別に応じて、自動的にメニューの内容を更新する実施の形態について説明する。
図12は、主表示装置6の表示内容の移り変わりについて示している。例えば、図12(a)のように、待ち受け画面が表示されている状態でユーザがメニューボタン(例えば、決定キー)を押下すると、携帯通信端末は、ボタンが押されたことを検知する。そして、携帯通信端末は、接続されたオプションユニット3の種別に応じて変更されたメニューを主表示装置6に表示する。例えば、GPSユニットが接続されている場合には、図12(b)のように、4番目の選択肢に「ナビゲーション」の選択肢を表示する。また、スピーカユニットが接続されている場合には、図12(c)のように、「音楽再生/録音」の選択肢を表示する。これらの選択肢は、他のメニューの選択肢と同様にそれぞれ対応するプログラムに関連付けられており、選択肢を選択することによってそのプログラムが実行を開始する。

図13は、MPU21が実行するプログラムのフローチャートである。図13において、図8と同一の符号は同一又は相当の部分を表しているため、以下、この実施の形態特有の処理を中心に説明する。
まず、携帯通信端末がオプションユニット3の接続を検知し、オプションユニット3の種類を認識する(ステップS10〜S12)。次に、MPU21は認識したオプションユニット3の種類を判別し、種類に応じた処理を行う(ステップS31)。ステップS32〜S34はオプションユニット3に対応したメニューを作成する処理であり、例えば、オプションユニット3がないと判断された場合には、MPU21はメニューからオプションユニット3の選択肢を削除する。また、オプションユニット3がGPSユニットである場合には、MPU21はメニューに「ナビゲーション」の選択肢を作成する(ステップS33)。一方、オプションユニット3がスピーカユニットである場合には、MPU21はメニューに「音楽再生/録音」の選択肢を作成する(ステップS34)。メニューの作成処理が終了すると、MPU21は他の処理に戻る(ステップS35)。

図14は、メモリ29の記憶内容を示したものであり、25d〜25gはそれぞれ第1番目〜第4目までのメニューの選択肢に対応した記憶領域である。各記憶領域は、メニュー画面に表示する選択肢名と、選択肢に対応するプログラムが格納されているメモリ29上のアドレスとを記憶している。ここで、記憶領域25d〜25fがオプションユニット3以外の他の一般的処理に対応し、記憶領域25gが、オプションユニット3に対応しているとすると、MPU21は、上述図13のステップS32〜S34に示した処理で、記憶領域25gの選択肢名及びアドレスの内容を種別に応じて変更する。なお、オプションユニット3が切り替わるたびに、オプションユニット3に応じたプログラムを同じアドレスに上書きする場合には、アドレスの変更は行わなくともよい。
