TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an information processing apparatus, an information processing method, an information processing system, and a storage medium, and more particularly, to a plurality of electronic devices via a data communication bus capable of communicating control commands and actual output data in a mixed manner. An information processing apparatus connected to a device, an information processing method thereof, and a plurality of electronic devices including the information processing device are connected via the data communication bus, and an information processing system for performing data communication between these electronic devices and the information The present invention relates to a computer-readable storage medium storing a control procedure executed by a processing device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a small general-purpose computer typified by a personal computer (hereinafter, referred to as a “personal computer”) and peripheral devices such as a printer and a scanner have been connected to a digital interface (hereinafter, referred to as a “digital I / F”) SCSI (Small Computer Systems). 2. Description of the Related Art There is known a technology for performing data communication by connecting via an interface.
[0003]
Further, a recording / reproducing device such as a digital camera or a digital video camera is used as a peripheral device, and these recording / reproducing devices are connected to a personal computer via the digital I / F, and video data (still images, There is also known an information processing system in which a moving image is imported to a personal computer and stored in a hard disk, or edited by the personal computer and then printed in color by a printer.
[0004]
An information processing system in which a plurality of personal computers, information resources such as a database, and a plurality of printers are connected via a network such as a LAN (Local Area Network) is also known. Such an information processing system is generally as follows. Print processing is performed through a simple procedure.
(1) List printers available on LAN
(2) Select a desired printer from the list of printers
(3) Transfer the print job to the selected printer and print it out
By the way, in this type of information processing system, not all printers connected to the network have the same function. For example, resolution, gradation, description language, usable paper size and character font, color printing Since printers with different presence or absence are often connected on the network, conventionally, the functions of each printer are recognized in advance, a selection key corresponding to each printer is designated, and a desired key is operated by a key operation from the client side. Printer is selected.
[0005]
Also, in print data such as documents and images created using application software, etc., documents edited in a form compatible with a plurality of different paper sizes or irregular paper sizes (for example, multi-format paper) (Spreadsheets used for spreadsheets, irregular image data created by paint, etc.), and (still) images captured by a scanner or digital camera. There is data, but when printing such image data, a print control processing unit (hereinafter, referred to as a “printer driver”) corresponding to a printer as an output device selects a printable paper size, and outputs the image data. The corresponding character pattern or form pattern is generated on the PC side via the printer driver in accordance with print information such as .
[0006]
Furthermore, in recent years, the output size of image data or the like captured by a digital camera or the like is automatically set in advance in accordance with the paper size attached to the printing apparatus, and thereby the image data is directly printed on desired paper. It may output.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
In the above information processing system, since a large amount of image data must be transferred from a personal computer to a printer, a hard disk, or the like, it is desired that the image data be connected via a digital I / F having a high transfer data rate and versatility. .
[0008]
However, in the conventional information processing system, although a SCSI that enables high-speed transfer is used as a digital I / F, there are actually a low transfer rate and a thick cable for parallel communication. In addition, since there are restrictions on the types and number of connectable peripheral devices, the connection method, and the like, there has been a problem that the system is not yet convenient enough to respond to user requests.
[0009]
Further, in the above-mentioned conventional information processing system, the user operates the selection key on the personal computer connected to the network as described above to select a desired printer. The function must be known in advance, and there is a problem that the usability is poor for the user.
[0010]
Moreover, in the above-described printer selection method, even when a plurality of printers can be used, only one printer is selected by operating the selection key, and therefore, there is no flexibility and extremely inefficiency. There is a problem that the method is a printer selection method.
[0011]
Also, when transmitting and receiving data by connecting a plurality of electronic devices to a network, due to the difference in the compression method of image data, compressed data that cannot be expanded is erroneously transferred, or uncompressed despite being able to be expanded at the transfer destination. There is a problem that the data may be transferred in the form of compressed data, which may cause a decrease in the transfer operation and transfer efficiency.
[0012]
Also, if the paper size of the print data is different from the paper size of the recording paper set in the printer and the printout is forcibly performed with the recording paper contained in the printer, the paper size of the recording paper When the recording paper is larger than the desired recording paper size, the marginal area of the recording paper is conspicuous and thus unsightly. On the other hand, when the recording paper is smaller than the desired recording paper, the print data protrudes from the recording paper. There is a problem that it is printed out.
[0013]
Further, when the printer is not disposed near the installation location of the personal computer, the size of the recording paper set in the printer cannot be confirmed at the time of printing. For this reason, after the printing process has been completed, the paper size and the printing direction of the recording paper may need to be changed, and then the printing process must be performed again.
[0014]
Further, when image data is created via a printer driver or the like for a document already created using application software or the like, when the generated image data is out of the print range of the selected paper size, the print range Only the print data inside is converted and printed out as print information for one page on one sheet of recording paper, and the protruding portion is converted as print data for another page, and printed again for another page. The data is printed out on another recording sheet. For this reason, a document of one page is printed out over a plurality of recording sheets, and as a result, there is a problem that a print result not intended by the user is obtained.
[0015]
On the other hand, before printing, whether or not the print data can be printed in the print range of the paper size is checked in advance by a print preview or the like, and the setting can be changed by the user to print within the print range. In this case, too, the user operates the keyboard, mouse, or the like to edit the print data beyond the print range for each page so that the print data fits in the print range designation area of the selected paper size. After changing the print range designation area by changing the margin of the page layout or the like, the printing process must be performed, and the operation is complicated.
[0016]
Further, even printers of the same manufacturer use different paper feeding methods due to structural differences. Therefore, the setting of the recording paper in the paper feeding section, the setting direction, the printing surface, etc. must be performed in accordance with the specifications of the printer. However, if the setting operation is wrong, there is a problem that an intended print result cannot be obtained.
[0017]
In addition, in the case of an information processing system in which a plurality of peripheral devices are connected to a personal computer, the types of peripheral devices are increasing more and more in the future. It is expected that communication with a network connection between them will be possible.
[0018]
And if it becomes possible to communicate via a network between many electronic devices, it will be extremely convenient, while communication with a very large amount of data will frequently be performed between these electronic devices and the network will be congested, For this reason, there is a possibility that a problem may occur that communication between other electronic devices connected to the network is adversely affected. For example, when a user connects a personal computer and a printer and wants to perform the printing process of image data continuously or promptly, communication is performed between electronic devices that do not involve the user between the personal computer and the printer. If this is done, the entire network or the personal computer as a host computer will be adversely affected, and the print output of the image data may not be executed normally or the print output may be delayed. However, there is a possibility that a problem may occur in that a printer that is not connected is in a non-operating state and cannot be used. In other words, data communication failures occur due to the load on the personal computer due to network congestion and the operation status of the personal computer, which adversely affects communication between other electronic devices connected to the network. May occur.
[0019]
The present invention has been made in view of such a problem, and even when the function of an output device is not grasped, an optimal output device can be selected, and furthermore, the selected output device can be selected. Automatic editing / manual editing can be performed by selecting an editing mode for output data based on the function information. In the manual editing mode, a setting information screen based on function mismatch information between the function information of the output device and the setting information of the output data. An information processing apparatus and an information processing method capable of easily editing output data by performing a change in accordance with the function information of the output apparatus by performing a voice guidance and a help display for prompting a display of a display and a change of a mismatched item; It is an object to provide an information processing system and a storage medium.

[0025]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings.
[0026]
The information processing system according to the embodiment of the present invention uses IEEE1394-1995 (hereinafter, referred to as “1394 serial bus”) standardized by IEEE (American Electrical and Electronic Engineers Association) as a digital I / F, Digital devices are connected via the 1394 serial bus.
[0027]
Therefore, the outline of the 1394 serial bus will be described first.
[0028]
With the advent of home digital video tape recorders (digital VTRs) and digital video discs (DVDs) in recent years, video data and audio data can be transferred in real time, imported to a personal computer, or transferred to other digital devices. It has been requested.
[0029]
For that purpose, an interface capable of high-speed data transfer having various transfer functions required by the user is required. The 1394 serial bus as High Performance Serial Bus was developed from such a viewpoint and standardized by IEEE. It is.

The DS-Link coding method has higher transfer efficiency than other serial data transfer methods and does not require a PLL (Phase Locked Loop) circuit, so that it is possible to further reduce the size of electronic components such as LSIs. In addition, there is no need to send information indicating idle state when there is no data to be transferred. Therefore, by putting the transceiver circuit of each digital device into the sleep state, power consumption can be reduced. There are various advantages such as being able to.

When a change in the network configuration (topology) occurs, such as when a specific node is deleted from the network or newly added, a bus reset signal is transmitted to all nodes on the bus, and all topology information is cleared. Then, a new network is reconstructed, so that the network configuration can be set and recognized at any time.
[0047]
Specifically, at the

When the bus reset signal is activated in this way, the data transfer is suspended, the data transfer is put into a standby state, a new node ID is assigned to each node, and the data transfer is resumed after the network configuration is established. Is done.
[0049]
FIG. 6 is a flowchart showing a node ID determination process showing a series of control procedures from the reception of the bus reset signal to the determination of the node ID.
[0050]
First, in step S1, it is constantly monitored whether or not a bus reset signal has been generated in the network. When the bus reset signal has been generated, the process proceeds to step S2, where tree identification processing is executed. That is, when the 1394 serial bus is reset, there are three states: a branch node in which each node is connected to two or more nodes, a leaf node connected to only one node, and a single node not connected at all. In the tree identification processing, a parent-child relationship is established between each node so that each node can be treated as being connected in a tree-like manner. Further, a root node is recognized from a plurality of nodes, and the root of each node is recognized. Determine the direction to the node.
[0051]
FIG. 7 is a flowchart illustrating a processing procedure of the tree identification processing.

After the bus reset occurs, in step S11, a flag indicating that each digital device is a leaf node is set. In subsequent step S12, the

If the number of undefined ports is equal to or greater than "2", a flag indicating that the own node is a branch node is set in step S15. Upon receiving the "parent-child declaration", it becomes a "parent port", and a parent-child relationship is established between the two ports connected to each other.
[0054]
Then, returning to step S13, the above-described processing is repeated for the branch node, thereby sequentially establishing a parent-child relationship. When the number of undefined ports becomes “1”, the

In this network configuration, after the bus reset, the connection status is recognized as follows.
[0059]
First, a parent-child relationship is declared between the ports of each directly connected node, with the parent being higher in the hierarchical structure and the child being lower.

Specifically, the

[0066]
Although only one root node exists in one network configuration, other nodes may be recognized as root nodes according to the timing of the parent-child relationship declaration for other nodes. Due to the network configuration, the same node is not always recognized as the root node.
[0067]
When the tree identification processing is completed in this way, the process returns to step S3 in FIG. 6 to perform node setting processing, and assigns an ID to each node in a predetermined node order.
[0068]
FIG. 9 is a flowchart showing the processing procedure of the node ID setting process. In the node ID setting process, an ID is assigned to a leaf node first, and then an ID is assigned to a branch node and a root node in this order.
[0069]
In step S21, the number N (N is a natural number; "3" in this example) of leaf nodes existing in the network is set. Next, in step S22, each leaf node (
[0070]
Next, arbitration is performed again (step S23), and the above-described processing is repeated for the leaf nodes for which ID acquisition has failed in the previous arbitration (steps S22 to S28). Finally, IDs are assigned to all leaf nodes.
[0071]
When the number N becomes "0", the answer in step S28 becomes affirmative (Yes), and the process proceeds to step S29, where the number M of branch nodes existing in the network (M is a natural number; "2" in this example) is determined. Set. Next, in step S30, each branch node (

Next, the above-described processing is repeated for the branch node for which ID acquisition failed in the previous arbitration, and IDs are assigned to all branch nodes. When the number M becomes "0", the answer in step S36 becomes affirmative (Yes), and the process proceeds to step S37.
[0073]
In step S37, the ID number of the root node (

[0075]
Then, when all the leaf nodes have acquired the ID numbers, the branch nodes are thereafter assigned ID numbers. Thereafter, the ID information is sequentially transferred by broadcast from the branch node to which the ID number is assigned, and finally, the root node transfers its own ID information by broadcast. Therefore, the root node is always assigned the highest ID number on the network.
[0076]
As described above, the assignment of ID numbers for the entire hierarchical structure is completed, the network configuration is reconstructed, and the bus initialization operation is completed.
[0077]
Next, the process proceeds to step S4 in FIG. 6 to perform a normal arbitration process for acquiring a bus use right.
[0078]
That is, the 1394 serial bus is a logical bus-type network in which the individually connected nodes relay the transferred signals, so that the same signal can be transmitted to all devices in the network. Therefore, arbitration processing is performed to prevent collision during packet transfer, and only one node can perform data transfer.
[0079]
FIG. 10 is a flowchart showing the procedure of the normal arbitration process.
[0080]
In order for a node to be able to start data transfer, the 1394 serial bus must be idle. Then, when a predetermined period of time (hereinafter, this predetermined period is referred to as a “gap”) has elapsed in the idle state, it is possible to recognize that the preceding data transfer has been completed and that the bus is in an idle state. The node can determine that its data transfer can be started. Therefore, in step S41, it is determined whether or not a predetermined gap predetermined by the transfer mode has been obtained. If the predetermined gap has not been obtained, it is determined that the bus is not empty, and the predetermined gap is determined. Wait for it to be obtained. If it is determined that a predetermined gap is obtained, the process proceeds to step S42, where it is determined whether there is data to be transferred. If there is no data to be transferred, the process returns to the main routine (FIG. 6). If it is determined that there is data to be transferred, the process proceeds to step S43, and a request for the right to use the bus is issued to the root node to secure a bus for transfer.
[0081]
FIG. 11 shows a state where the
[0082]
That is, the bus use right request signal is transmitted from the child port c of each node to the parent port p, and finally transmitted to the root node while relaying the nodes in the network. For example, as shown in FIG. 11, when the
[0083]
Next, when the root node receives the bus use right request signal in step S44, the process proceeds to step S45, where it is determined whether or not the number of nodes that issued the bus use right request is only one. Since the usage rights do not conflict, there is no need for arbitration. Therefore, the process immediately proceeds to step S48.
[0084]
On the other hand, if the number of nodes that have issued the bus use right request is two or more as shown in FIG. 11, the process proceeds to step S46, and the root node performs arbitration work to determine one node to which use permission is given. In this arbitration work, permission is not always given to the same node every time for the sake of fairness, and arbitration work that gives rights equally is performed.
[0085]
Next, in step S47, it is determined whether or not the bus request has been granted to the node that has issued the request for use. S48), a transfer standby signal (data prefix) is transmitted to the node that is not permitted (step S49), and the process returns to the main routine (FIG. 6).

FIG. 12 shows a case where a transfer permission signal is transmitted to the

In addition, the 1394 system bus has three data transfer speeds of 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps, and 400 Mbps as data transfer speeds. It is designed to support devices and be compatible.
[0090]
Further, the data transfer mode includes an asynchronous transfer mode for transferring asynchronous data such as a control signal and an isochronous transfer mode for transferring real-time synchronous data such as video data and audio data.
[0091]
Asynchronous transfer data and isochronous transfer data are cycle start packets (CSP) indicating the start of each cycle in accordance with a distribution procedure called a subaction every fixed time (usually 125 μsec) called an isochronous cycle T. Is transmitted, and packets are transferred in a mixed cycle while prioritizing the transfer of isochronous data.

In this asynchronous transfer mode, the header information and the actual data are transmitted from the transmitting node to the designated receiving node. In other words, the packet is transmitted from the transmitting node to each node by broadcasting on the network, but is ignored except for the designated receiving node, whereby the ID written in the receiving
[0098]
On the other hand, the isochronous transfer mode is a transfer mode suitable for performing data transfer that requires real-time transfer, such as multimedia data such as video data and audio data.
[0099]
That is, while the above-described asynchronous transfer mode performs data transfer in a one-to-one correspondence between the receiving node and the transmitting node, the isochronous transfer mode uses a broadcast function to transmit data from one transmitting node to the network. Transfer data to all nodes above.

FIG. 15 is a diagram showing a temporal transition state in the isochronous transfer. In the isochronous transfer, a plurality of types of packets (first to

[0158]
Then, after confirming the end of the transfer of the video data in step S62, it is determined in subsequent step S63 whether or not to transfer another video data. If the answer is affirmative (Yes), the process returns to step S57. On the other hand, if the answer is negative (No), the process proceeds to step S64, and it is determined whether or not the transfer destination device is changed and the transfer of the video data is continued. If the answer is affirmative (Yes), the process returns to step S51 to repeat the above-described processing, while if the answer is negative (No), the transfer processing ends.
[0159]
As described above, the decoder information is used to determine whether to perform the compressed data transfer or the uncompressed data transfer when transferring the compressed and recorded video data. [0169]
Note that the image information and printer information items and set values of the video data are not limited to the comparison table shown in FIG. 23. For example, when priority is given to the printing speed, the image information and the printer information match. If it is not necessary to increase the setting value of the item relating to the conversion time, or if it is desired to give priority to the image quality, increase the setting value of the item that most affects the image quality if the resolution supported by the video data and the printer match. You can also. In addition to the information common to the image information and the printer information, the printer status is set to a value corresponding to the height of the function, such as increasing the setting value if the printing speed of the printer is high. The optimum transfer destination printer may be selected by adding the setting values.
[0170]
Further, a combination of set values can be selected from a plurality of values by a user's selection. For example, it is preferable that the user input the settings such as “print speed priority” and “image quality priority” from the setting screen of the
[0171]
In this way, the function information of each printer is stored, the image information of the video data is compared with the printer information of the printer, and the setting value when they match is added, so that the desired printer as the output destination candidate can be quickly identified. Can be selected.
[0172]
Then, in steps S87 to S101, processing according to a predetermined editing mode is performed.
[0173]
That is, in the present embodiment, three types of editing are provided: editing based on paper size, editing based on color print information, and editing based on resolution information. These paper sizes, color print information, and The image information of the video data is edited as appropriate for the resolution information. Then, as shown in FIG. 24, the editing mode is set to “0” when video data is directly transferred to the
[0174]
Then, in a step S87, it is determined whether or not the edit mode is “0”. If the answer is affirmative (Yes), this means that the video data is transmitted to the

On the other hand, if the answer to step S87 is negative (No), the process proceeds to step S88, where the paper size information included in the printer information received by the
[0176]
On the other hand, if the received printer information does not include the paper size information, or if the paper sizes do not match, the answer to step S88 is negative (No), and the process proceeds to step S89.
[0177]
In step S89, it is determined whether or not the paper size of the recording paper mounted on the
[0178]
In step S91, the process waits until a recording sheet of a desired sheet size is fed, and when the recording sheet is fed thereafter, the answer in step S91 becomes affirmative (Yes), and in step S94, a manual operation based on the sheet size information is performed. Editing is performed, and the process proceeds to step S95. That is, if the video data is required to be decompressed, the decompression process is performed, and then the related application is started by the file extension of the video data, and the paper is fed through the built-in speaker of the
[0179]
On the other hand, if the answer to step S89 is negative (No), the process proceeds to step S92, and it is determined whether the edit mode is set to "1" (automatic edit mode). That is, there is no paper feed request because the recording paper is loaded in the
[0180]
If the answer to step S92 is affirmative (Yes) and it is determined that the automatic editing mode has been set, the process proceeds to step S93, where the automatic editing process is performed. That is, if video data decompression processing is necessary, the video data is subjected to decompression processing, and then is automatically edited based on the paper size information of the
On the other hand, if the answer to step S92 is negative (No) and it is determined that the mode is set to the manual editing mode, the process proceeds to step S94, and after outputting the voice guidance urging the change of the size of the video data, A setting screen for instructing the user to select an optimal paper size from the paper size selection list, or to perform enlargement / reduction and rotation processing to fit within the selected paper size, a voice guidance for prompting a data size change, and an online help display. As a result, a manual editing process based on the paper size information is performed as described above, and the process proceeds to step S95.
[0181]
Next, in step S95, it is determined from the received printer information whether the color print information of the
[0182]
On the other hand, if the answer to step S95 is negative (No), that is, if the received printer information does not include color information, or if the color information of the video data does not match the color print information of the printer, the process proceeds to step S96. It is determined whether the edit mode is set to "1" (automatic edit mode). If the answer is affirmative (Yes), the flow proceeds to step S97. If the expansion processing of the video data is necessary in the
[0183]
On the other hand, if the answer to step S96 is negative (No) and it is determined that the mode is the manual editing mode, the process proceeds to step S98. If the video data needs to be expanded, the video data is expanded. After starting related application software or the like depending on the extension or the like, a guidance is displayed on the
[0184]
Next, in step S99, it is determined whether or not the resolution information included in the printer information received by the
[0185]
On the other hand, if the answer to step S99 is negative (No), that is, if the received printer information does not include the resolution information, or if the resolution information of the printer does not match the resolution information of the video data, the process proceeds to step S100. , It is determined whether the edit mode is set to “1”. If the answer is affirmative (Yes), it is determined that the automatic editing mode has been set, and the flow advances to step S101 to perform automatic editing processing. That is, if expansion processing of video data is necessary in the
[0186]
On the other hand, if the answer to step S100 is negative (No) and it is determined that the mode is set to the manual editing mode, the process proceeds to step S102, and a manual editing process based on the resolution information is performed. That is, after the video data is decompressed, if necessary, after the decompression process is performed, the related application software is activated by the file extension of the video data, etc. After outputting the voice guidance prompting the user to change the resolution, the user is prompted to display the setting screen to instruct the user to change the resolution. I do.
[0187]
When the editing process of the video data is completed in this way, the process proceeds to step S103. In step S103, it is determined whether or not the type of the decoder included in the received printer information matches the type of the decoder that compresses the video data. If it is determined that the decoder types match and that there is no uncompressed transfer request of the decoder, the process proceeds to step S104. If the received printer information does not include decoder information, or if it is determined that a decoder for expanding video data does not exist in the printer, or if there is a request for non-compression even if they match, Proceed to step S105.
[0188]
Then, in step S104, the decoder is set, that is, the compressed video data as compressed is set to be transferred from the
[0189]
On the other hand, in step S105, the decoder "absence", that is, in the case of compressed video data, the video data is decompressed. And the process proceeds to step S106.
[0190]
Next, in step S106, the transfer destination selected in step S86 is specified, and transfer setting is performed based on the instruction. Then, in step S106, a command including predetermined information informing that the video data is to be transferred is transmitted using the 1394 serial bus 66.
[0191]
Next, in step S108, it is determined whether or not the decoder is set to "present" in step S103. If the answer is affirmative (Yes), the process proceeds to step S109 to transfer the compressed video data from the
[0192]
On the other hand, if the answer to step S108 is negative (No), the process proceeds to step S110, where control is performed to transfer the non-compressed video data read from the
[0193]
When the video data transfer processing is completed in step S111, it is determined in subsequent step S112 whether or not the transfer destination is changed. If a plurality of transfer destination printers are selected in step S86, the answer in step S112 is affirmative (Yes), and the process returns to step S86 to repeat the above processing. This allows simultaneous printing of the same document from multiple printers in real time.
[0194]
On the other hand, if the answer to step S112 is negative (No) and it is not necessary to change the transfer destination and continue the printing process, the process proceeds to step S113, and it is determined whether or not to transfer other video data. If the answer is negative (No), the process is terminated as it is, while if the answer is affirmative (Yes), the process returns to step S85 to read out the video data, and repeats the processes from step S86.
[0195]
After editing to the optimum print format based on the printer information of the printer selected in this way, if the transfer destination printer or the like can decode, the compressed data decoded to the transfer destination decode format can be transferred. When it is impossible, uncompressed data can be transferred, and transfer efficiency can be improved.
[0196]
Further, when the data cannot be decompressed by the decoder provided in the transfer destination printer, the non-compressed video data is transferred, so that the data of the wrong compression system is not transferred from the recording / reproducing
