It is known that the characteristics of this organic EL display panel deteriorate when the organic layers and electrodes are exposed to the outside air. This is because water invades the interface between the organic layer and the electrode, which hinders the injection of electrons, resulting in a dark spot as a non-light emitting region or corrosion of the electrode. In order to improve stability and durability, a sealing technique that shields the organic EL element from the outside air is indispensable. Regarding this sealing technique, a means for adhering a sealing member covering the electrode and the organic layer via an adhesive layer onto a transparent glass substrate on which the electrode and the organic layer are formed is generally adopted.

The desiccant 45 is provided to absorb and remove initial moisture existing in the sealing member after the sealing member 44 is bonded and moisture that has been released or infiltrated with time. In particular, the organic layer is vulnerable to heat and cannot be completely removed by heat treatment before sealing, so that the initial moisture described above cannot be completely removed. Therefore,
In a panel using the current organic EL material, it is indispensable to dispose such a desiccant 45 in the sealing member 44. As the desiccant 45, CaO or BaO that chemically absorbs water, or silica gel that physically absorbs water is used.

According to the above-mentioned conventional example, it is necessary to provide the sealing member with the pocket portion for loading the desiccant, and the thickness T for that is required. Therefore, the entire organic EL display panel is required. There is a problem that the thickness becomes large. The organic EL display panel is expected to be used as a display for mobile information terminals such as mobile phones and PDAs, and there is a strong demand for thin and thick panels, and the size of the desiccant is required to be as small as possible.

On the other hand, as the desiccant, the desiccant absorbs initial moisture existing inside the sealing member immediately after sealing with the sealing member, the moisture released by driving the organic EL display panel, and the moisture during use. It is required to have a function of continuously absorbing water that enters from the outside. When the desiccant is made small, the moisture absorbing function of the desiccant is spent for absorbing the initial moisture, and the continuous moisture absorbing action against moisture generated thereafter declines. There is a problem that the life is shortened remarkably.

According to this, the initial moisture absorbent layer 6 acts immediately after the periphery of the organic layer 2 is sealed by the sealing member 4, and effectively removes the initial moisture existing in the sealing member 4. be able to. By the removal of the initial moisture, the moisture released afterwards (after the organic EL display panel is driven and the inside of the panel surrounded by the sealing member 4 becomes a high temperature environment) to be released into the space inside the sealing member 4 Since the amount can be reduced, it is possible to set the continuous moisture absorbing action of the desiccant 5 to be low. As a result, the total amount of the desiccant 5 can be reduced, and the thin film desiccant 5 as described above can be obtained.
Also, it is possible to secure a sufficient panel life. Since the desiccant 5 is thinned, it is not necessary to provide a pocket portion as in the conventional example, so that the panel can be thinned.

8. A first electrode, an organic layer and a second electrode are formed on a transparent substrate, and a sealing member covering the organic layer is adhered to the transparent substrate by an adhesive layer formed around the organic layer. In the method for producing an organic EL display panel, the step of forming a layer of a photopolymerization initiator-containing resin that absorbs water by a photopolymerization reaction on the second electrode, and the sealing member on the transparent substrate. Before adhering, by photopolymerizing the photopolymerization initiator-containing resin by irradiating the layer of the photopolymerization initiator-containing resin with light, at least water on the surface of the second electrode or the surface of the transparent substrate is removed. And a step of absorbing the organic EL display panel.
