Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser assembly which has a good assembling workability and which is adapted to surely assure conductivity between semiconductor laser arrays. SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser assembly 1 comprises a plurality of stages of laminated semiconductor laser units 4. Each laser unit 4 has the semiconductor laser array 3 and an upper side sub-mount base 6 mounted on a heat sink 2. Since each laser unit 4 can be laminated so that each tongue piece- like conductive plate 14 is brought into pressure contact with a lower surface 2a of the adjacent sink 2, its assembling workability is improved. Since the plate 14 is formed in the tongue-like state, a change of the contact area of the plate 14 with the lower surface 2a of the sink 2 can be facilitated with the result that conductivity between the arrays 2 can be surely assured. This aids the mass production of the assembly 1.

As a result of employing the conductive plate 14 having such a shape, each semiconductor laser unit 4 is pressed so that the free end side of each tongue-shaped conductive plate 14 is pressed against the lower surface 2a of the heat sink 2.
Since they can be stacked, assembly workability can be improved. Since the conductive plate 14 has a tongue shape, it is easy to change the contact area of the heat sink 2 with the lower surface 2a, and as a result, it is possible to ensure the conductivity between the semiconductor laser arrays 3. This helps in the mass production of semiconductor laser assemblies.

Further, by adopting the tongue-shaped conductive plate 14 as described above, the base end side of the conductive plate 14 can be separated from the adjacent heat sink 2 by a predetermined distance S. As a result, it is possible to avoid the uneven contact phenomenon of the conductive plate 14 caused by the thickness of the conductive plate 14 and the soldering state, and further, between the electrically insulating member 12 and the lower surface 2a of the heat sink 2 during assembly. It is possible to avoid the generated gap and appropriately prevent the medium from leaking. Also,
In the assembly process of stacking the semiconductor laser units 4, since the lower surface 2a of the heat sink 2 of the adjacent unit 4 does not directly contact the semiconductor laser array 3, the semiconductor laser array 3 is less likely to be distorted and the output characteristics are deteriorated. It can be properly prevented.

Here, in order to prevent a non-uniform current from flowing through each semiconductor laser array 3, it is necessary to maintain a uniform contact pressure of the conductive plate 14 against the lower surface 2a of the heat sink 2. Therefore, the end of the electrically insulating member 12 holds the free end side of the conductive plate 14, and the conductive plate 14 is pressure-bonded to the lower surface 2a of the adjacent heat sink 2. In this case, the above-described electrically insulating member 12 has the first electrically insulating portion 1 provided with the opening 13 that communicates with the inlet 10 and the outlet 11 of the medium passage 9 formed inside the heat sink 2.
2a and the second electrically insulating portion 12b that holds the free end side of the conductive plate 14. As described above, when the electrically insulating member 12 is composed of the first electrically insulating portion 12a that secures the medium passage 9 and the second electrically insulating portion 12b that holds the conductive plate 14, it is possible to assemble In, the gap is less likely to occur between the electrically insulating member 12 and the heat sink 2, and the leakage of the medium can be appropriately prevented.

In this case, it is preferable to separate the first electrically insulating portion 12a and the second electrically insulating portion 12b.
In this case, since the deformation of the second electrically insulating portion 12b by the conductive plate 14 does not affect the first electrically insulating portion 12a during assembly, the first electrically insulating portion 12 is not affected.
The medium passage 9 due to a is reliably ensured. Furthermore, since the materials of the first electrically insulating portion 12a and the second electrically insulating portion 12b can be easily changed, the adhesion of the conductive plate 14 to the heat sink 2 and the first electrically insulating portion to the heat sink 2 can be easily changed. The adhesion of 12a can be easily increased.

Further, as another modified example of the conductive plate, FIG.
It is preferable that the tongue piece portion 51 provided on the free end side of the conductive plate 50 is fixed to the upper surface of the lower submount base 7 with an adhesive R, as shown in FIG. By adopting such a fixed portion, it is possible to prevent the bending deformation (see FIG. 15) of the tongue piece portion 51 at the time of assembly from giving a peeling stress to the joint portion P between the conductive plate 50 and the upper submount base 6. , Which improves the assembling workability. Specifically, the conductive plate 50 is provided with a fixing portion 52 that is bent in a V-shape toward the lower submount base 7 in the middle of the tongue piece portion 51. It is preferable to fix it on the upper surface of the side submount base 7 via an adhesive R. In this way, the tongue piece 5
