Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article which has the similar appearance and performance to those of thermosetting plastics, by using a pulverized keratin fiber as the raw material. SOLUTION: The article is obtained by using such a substance that the powder and/or pulverizate of a keratin fiber such as wool, animal hair, down or feather is used as the raw material and a diisocyanate or aldehyde compound is added as a crosslinker to this raw material and furthermore a polyethylene oxide is additionally added to this mixture, and then by heating and pressing it in a metal mold.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present inventor has for many years studied the microstructure and function of keratin fibers, methods for extracting keratin from wool and feathers, and the chemical and physicochemical properties of extracted keratin. In recent years, environmental pollution due to waste treatment has become a social problem on a global scale, and there is an urgent need to develop a technology for recycling waste. In view of such a situation, the present inventors are working on the development of a technology for recycling waste wool and waste feather. As a part of this technical development, we have developed a technology that uses a pressed material of ground keratin fiber as a new material.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The amount of wool and feathers used in large quantities as materials for apparel and interior products, and the amount of chicken wings for chickens and eggs is increasing.
It can be easily inferred that the amount of waste of these keratin fibers increases rapidly. The present invention seeks to contribute to environmental conservation by developing technologies for effective use of waste keratin fibers. Furthermore, since the material produced by the present invention uses a raw material derived from natural products, there is no problem in health and safety, and there is no problem in disposal, such as synthetic resin and animal tusks and horns which are difficult to obtain. It can be used as an alternative to natural modeling materials.

EXAMPLES Particle size obtained by crushing wool, 10 to 20 μm
Is placed in a SK steel plate-shaped molding die and placed on a sample stand of a pressure molding machine. Pressurization is performed while increasing the temperature of the pressurizer. After the pressure reaches 1000 kg / cm 2 and 160 ° C., the state is maintained for 5 minutes, and then removed from the mold.
The color of the invention product was yellow-brown, the elastic modulus was 2560 MPa, and the bending strength was 82 MPa. No swelling was observed in the sample when the sample was immersed in water for 12 hours. As a result of the hole drilling test using an electric drill, it was pierced in a cylindrical shape according to the mold.

The invented material had an appearance and performance similar to thermosetting plastics. Since the invention product uses a raw material derived from a natural product, it is a material having no problem in environmental conservation, health and safety, and can be used as a substitute material for synthetic resin and hardly available ivory. The raw materials used are natural resources, such as waste wool, waste feathers and chicken wings discharged from the production process of apparel and interior products and product waste, for which the development of recycling technologies has been delayed. This can contribute to the reduction of the above-mentioned waste, which is increasing in Japan.
