Diapers with extensible transverse barriers
Field of the invention
The present invention relates to disposable absorbent articles, and more particularly, to disposable absorbent articles.
Minimize the movement of attached stool material while at the same time accepting and transferring stool material.
It relates to a disposable absorbent article having a transverse partition to be fitted, for example a diaper.
Background of the Invention
Disposable absorbers, such as diapers, are well known in the art. Disposable absorption
The body retains and absorbs bodily excretions, such as urine and stool material deposited thereon.
No significant progress has been made in this technology with respect to absorbing and retaining urine deposits.
Was done. For example, disposable absorbers rarely leak, and can be used to incorporate absorbent gelling substances.
Therefore, it may be relatively thin.
However, attempts to address stool material deposition on disposable absorbents have
Not much is done in this technology. Stool substance is applied to the wearer's skin.
Dirty diapers or other disposable absorbents that have an undesirable tendency to
When it is removed, it causes skin irritation, complicating the task of cleaning the wearer.
To overcome these trends, it is important to isolate fecal material from the wearer's skin.
Several attempts have been made with this technique. Such attempts generally involve stool material
With a cavity or hole that is retained (hopefully)
The quality location is limited to this void or hole location. An example of such an attempt is 198

Other attempts to provide a cup have also been made in the art. These mosquitoes
The top creates a border around the anal opening, the genitals, or both, and the wearer's body.
Are intended to isolate these sites. Attempts such as this
Can be uncomfortable for the person, and precise positioning of this cup is required.
In yet another attempt, transversely or longitudinally extending elastic bars are used.
The rear was placed under the diaper topsheet. However, this sequence
Stool material deposited on the backing sheet is above the barrier and may still move.
And has the disadvantage that the above problem still occurs. This array simply
The sudden imperfections necessary to impede the movement of fecal material deposited on the diaper topsheet
It simply does not create continuity.
Moreover, such an arrangement is not likely to prevent excessive transverse movement of fecal material.
Even efficient. The barrier located under the topsheet extends in the longitudinal direction
Cannot be easily joined to a barrier leg cuff. These barriers
-Leg cuffs minimize leakage from diapers, as is well known in the art.
It is to limit. Therefore, it is guided by a barrier in the passage for transverse movement.
The stool material that is transported to the outside of the diaper may break through the outside and cause leakage.
There is.
The transverse barrier is angled backwards, i.e.
Preferably angled towards the rear waist edge (margin)
It turned out to be good. The side that forms an acute angle of 45 to 85 ° with respect to the plane of the top sheet
Shear walls have been found to be particularly effective. This is, for example, June 1996
Co-assigned U.S. Patent Application Serial No. 08 / 664,603 filed 18th.
No., issue batch number J78, the disclosure of which is incorporated by reference.
To be incorporated here.
However, Applicants have further noted that the rearwardly directed angle to the transverse barrier
Is not necessarily the best to match the stool material attached to the diaper
Did not give a simple array. Fecal material moves towards the front of the diaper
This is trapped by the transverse barrier or kept in place when
Be held. As additional fecal material moves forward, the transverse barrier preferably expands.
To match the presence and volume of fecal material. If the transverse barrier does not expand
If it does, a damming effect may occur. The volume of stool material to be dammed is constant. This volume
If the stool material is too large, stool material may pile up and break through the top of the transverse barrier.
There is. If the stool material crosses the transverse barrier, this will generally be the wearer's
Soil genitals and make wiping more difficult.
Thus, a disposable absorber having a transverse barrier that limits the movement of fecal material,
For example, it is an object of the present invention to provide a diaper. Toilet attached to the diaper
Such a transverse barrier adapted to the quality volume and in contact with the transverse barrier
It is another object of the present invention to provide a disposable absorbent having
.
Finally, provide a disposable absorber with a transverse barrier defining a volume
It is an object of the present invention to do so. This volume is to match the stool material inside
Can be increased.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The present invention includes a disposable absorber, for example, a diaper. This absorber is
And a lateral axis orthogonal to the opposite axis. The longitudinal and lateral axes are
Define the plane of the diaper. This diaper is perpendicular to the plane of the diaper and the length of the diaper
It has a Z direction orthogonal to the plane defined by the hand axis and the lateral axis. This
The diaper further includes a front waist edge, a back waist edge, and a front waist edge.
Is defined by two longitudinal side edges connecting the edge and the rear waist edge
It has a peripheral part.
This diaper is further bonded to a liquid permeable topsheet, this topsheet
Liquid impermeable backsheet, absorption in the middle between topsheet and backsheet
A sex core and a pair of raised barrier leg cuffs. Each barrier
The leg cuffs extend from the proximal end joined to the topsheet to the proximal end.
Extending outwardly to a spaced distal end. These barriers
The egg cuff is generally oriented longitudinally.
The diaper further comprises a laterally oriented transverse barrier.
You. This transverse barrier is joined to the topsheet at the proximal end.
And extends outward from here. The transversal barrier is also a barrier leg
Huss is joined to each.
This diaper has a stool material containment volume (fecal material con
(Tailing volume). This stool material containment volume is
Defined by proximal and distal ends of barrier and barrier leg cuffs
It is included in these. The stool material containment volume is the amount of stool material
This can be increased when this interrupts the transverse barrier.
It is.
The transverse barrier may be extensible, thereby providing a stool material containment volume.
Can be increased when stool material is received therein. And a transverse barrier
May have elastic stretchability. Transverse barrier has elastic panels
May be. This panel may be elastically extensible in the longitudinal and side directions
Alternatively, it may be bilaterally extensible. is there
Alternatively, the elasticity may be provided by a series of elastic strands. Even more
In one embodiment, the extensibility need not be elastic, but may be, for example, peelable.
May be provided by pleats with frangible adhesive
. These adhesives are subject to pressure when receiving stool material or due to its presence.
It breaks when it hits. Fecal material containment volume increases when stool material is received in it
Possible and preferably increased in the presence of stool material in contact with the transverse barrier
As far as possible, any such embodiment is sufficient.

Referring to FIG. 3, the transverse barrier is generally taut and is illustrated.
May define a flat plane. Presence of transverse barrier and stool material
Depending on the contact therewith, the transverse barrier is preferably shown in FIG.
It may expand to a convex shape like this. This expansion is due to the large longitudinal extent of the transverse barrier.
It may be considered as an increase in magnitude. The longitudinal dimension of the transverse barrier is
Measured from the proximal edge of the shear barrier to the distal edge of the
This coincides with the longitudinal center line LL of the diaper 20. Naturally, disposable absorption
Depending on the volume, viscosity, and adhesion of the stool material on the topsheet 24 of the body 20, traverse
The shape of the directional barrier is shown in FIG. 4 as it expands to fit the fecal material.
It should be recognized that there may be a variety of differences. For example transverse burrs
The layer can bend to a concave shape, or, more generally,
Can increase.
However, an important consideration is the response to pressure on the stool material's transverse barrier.
Not the exact shape of this. Instead, the stool material is
Do not stack in the Z direction and do not traverse the top of the transverse barrier.

Referring to FIG. 5, a disposable absorbent article according to the present invention comprises a stool material containment volume 50.
Can be considered. Initial stool material containment volume of 50
And the volume of the diaper 20 that is placed on the wearer and before it becomes dirty,
Volume 50, the volume created after the introduction of fecal material to the transverse barrier.
There are both products. The stool material containment volume 50 is defined as follows. Cross section
The stool material containment volume 50 is generally triangular, which is a right triangle.
You may. The cross section of the stool material containment volume 50 is at the proximal end of the transverse barrier.
Section and distal end, and traverse perpendicular to the outwardly directed surface of topsheet 24
Defined by imaginary lines from the distal end of the directional barrier. Transverse barrier
If is not uniform in the transverse direction, the cross-sectional area of the stool material containment volume 50
It is measured at the longitudinal center line LL of the discarded absorber.
The cross section of the stool material containment volume 50 in this way should be considered a right triangle.
Can be. One leg 51 extends from the distal end of the transverse barrier to the topsheet 2.
4 represents an imaginary line to the surface directed outside 4. The other leg 52 is the top
After the proximal end of the transverse barrier along the outwardly directed surface of sheet 24
To the point where the imaginary line intersects the topsheet 24
It is. The hypotenuse of the right triangle is the surface directed behind the transverse barrier.
The stool material containment volume 50 further includes an inwardly facing surface, ie, a barrier
The surface of each of the cuffs 32 is oriented toward the longitudinal centerline LL.
Is defined.
Therefore, it extends between the two barrier leg cuffs 32 and the topsheet 2
An infinite number of said cross sections bounded by the transverse barrier in 4 are defined
Is done. The stool material containment volume 50 is directed inside the barrier leg cuff 32.
The product of the transverse distance between the given surfaces and the transverse area. Barrier leg cuff
The transverse distance between strips 32 corresponds to the outwardly facing surface of topsheet 24.
Is measured as
In order to be consistent with what was originally defined and with the stool material,
It is this fecal material containment volume 50 that has a second volume greater than the initial volume.
. It is therefore necessary to measure two stool material containment volumes 50. First stool
The quality containment volume 50 is in the flat, uncontracted state of FIG. 1 before being placed on the wearer.
The diaper 20 is measured. The second stool material containment volume 50 is also flat.
Stool material is deposited in this volume and contacts the transverse barrier
Measured after touch.
The transverse partition 38 may include an elastic panel. Or crossing again
The directional barrier may comprise an elastic panel and a flaccid material. The flaccid material
If used, this is preferably juxtaposed with the proximal end of the transverse barrier.
I have. This flaccid material receives small pressures caused by contact with the stool material.
Even when girded, it allows the transverse bulkhead 38 to expand. Elastic panels are transverse burrs
When selected for all or part of the layer, the elastic panel is preferably
Has elastic stretchability. That is, it is stretchable towards the front waist edge
. Alternatively, and in a less preferred embodiment, with a transverse barrier
The elastic panel may have elastic stretchability in the side direction. Yet another fruit
In embodiments, the elastic panel may be extensible in both directions. Extend in both directions
The advantage of a stretchy elastic panel is that the position of the wearer and the shape of the diaper 20 are generally
More independently, an increase in volume 50 can occur.
Particularly preferred materials exhibit elastic-like behavior and have a molecular level at the first site.
It is a web material having a deformation, a geometric deformation in the second part. Such material

In another embodiment, as is well known in the art, the extensibility is
A transverse barrier can be imparted by the use of multiple elastic strands. Preferably
The elastic strands are generally parallel. Materials suitable for elastic strands are
Well known in the art. The elastic strands can be glued, heat shrunk or
By any of the other means well known in the
Can be adhered to the layer. The multi-elastic strands on the transverse bulkhead 38
Different levels of extensibility in different positions, i.e. different spring rates
The advantage of the elastic panel is that the elastic panel is provided. Preferably when receiving stool material
The increase in stool substance containment volume 50 is about 5% to about 50% of its original volume.
You. When stool material is received, the stool material containment volume 50 is preferably at least
30, more preferably at least 50, most preferably at least 80 cubic centimeters
It has a volume of one meter.
Referring to FIG. 6, the transverse bulkhead 38 may include three trisections.
No. That is, two outer three-part parts 60 and a central three-part part 62. Chuo San
The divided portion 62 may have stretchability, and more preferably has elastic stretchability.
Is also good. This arrangement adds to the rigidity provided by the non-stretchable outer trisection 60.
Thus, the advantage is that leakage to the top of the transverse bulkhead 38 is generally minimized.
give. The three-part portions need not be equal in width.
Referring to FIG. 7, in yet another preferred embodiment, the elastic center
The split 62 has a relatively large width at the distal edge of the transverse
It may taper to the apex at the proximal edge of the shear wall 38. Natural
The vertex of central trisection 62 must coincide with the proximal edge of central trisection 62.
Although not required, it may be located between the proximal and distal edges of the transverse bulkhead 38.
Should be admitted good. Furthermore, the extensible central trisection 62 of the embodiment of FIG.
Need not converge to the apex, but simply at the distal edge of the transverse septum 38.
From a relatively large width to a smaller width at the proximal edge of the transverse septum 38
It should be acknowledged that tapering is allowed. The embodiment of FIG.
The distance of the transverse bulkhead 38 caused by the movement of the barrier leg cuff 32
It also offers the advantage of less twist at the lip. Furthermore, this array
The movement from a 28 is separated from the movement of the barrier leg cuff 32 of the diaper 20.
Tend to Between the core 28 / leg cuff 32 and the distal edge of the transverse septum 38
By separating the movement of the stool, leakage when stool material is present is reduced.
Many variations are feasible and within the scope of the claimed invention.
Will be obvious. Elasticity traverses diagonally to the longitudinal and lateral directions
It may be given to the directional barrier. Use elastic strands and panels in combination
You can also. Such modifications fall within the scope of the claimed invention.
