As a conventional fixing device, for example, a so-called belt-fixing type fixing device as shown in FIG. 3 is known (Japanese Patent Laid-Open No. 8-334997). In this fixing device, a fixing belt 1 is wound and stretched between a rotating roller 2 and a heating roller 3, and a pressure roller 4 is pressed against the fixing roller 2 via the fixing belt 1. The recording material S on which the toner image T is formed is passed through a pressure contact portion (fixing nip portion) N in the direction of the arrow in the figure, and the toner image T is heated and melted and fixed on the recording material S. The heating roller 3 is provided with guide rings 3a, 3a as regulating portions for regulating the deviation of the belt 1 by contacting the side end 1b of the fixing belt 1. The fixing device also includes a releasing agent such as silicone oil on the surface of the fixing belt 1 as a release agent in order to prevent a phenomenon that a toner on a recording material is transferred to the surface of the fixing belt 1 (a so-called offset phenomenon). An oil application roller 5 for applying release oil is provided. The length (length in the belt width direction) of the oil application roller 5 as oil application means in the conventional fixing device is formed to be longer than the width of the fixing belt 1. The oil was applied over the entire width. Further, since the oil application roller 5 is pressed against the fixing belt 1 at a portion other than the portion where the fixing belt 1 is wound around the rollers 2 and 3, the oil applying roller 5 serves as a tension applying unit for applying tension to the fixing belt. It also has functions.

<Problem 1> In the above-described fixing device in the conventional image forming apparatus, the oil application width of the oil application roller 5 as the release agent application means is limited to the following range.
Since the width of the fixing belt 1 is larger than the width of the fixing belt 1, there is a problem that the oil applied to the front surface of the fixing belt 1 easily goes around to the back surface 1 a of the fixing belt 1. The oil that has flowed into the back surface 1a of the fixing belt 1 gradually enters between the fixing belt 1 and the fixing roller 2 that is a driving roller thereof. Slip may occur between the fixing roller 2 and the fixing belt 1, and as a result, there is a possibility that a stable fixing operation may not be performed. Such a problem can be solved by making the length of the oil application roller 5 shorter than the width of the fixing belt 1. However, the oil application roller 5 is connected to the rollers 2 and 2 of the fixing belt 1.
3 is pressed against the fixing belt 1 at a portion other than the portion where the oil application roller 5 is wound around the fixing belt 1, and has a function as a tension applying unit that applies tension to the fixing belt 1. When the width is shorter than the width of the fixing belt 1, as shown in FIGS. 4A and 4B, both sides of the fixing belt 1 are bent at the pressure contact portion 1 c of the roller 5 (the bent portions are denoted by reference numerals). 1d). For this reason, it turned out that another problem as follows arises.
The bent portion 1d is gradually reduced in its bent state during the movement of the belt 1, and the belt 1 is located just downstream of the pressing portion 1c (in this case, the heating roller 3).
Is wound (wrapped around), which results in a flat state. At this time, as shown in FIG.
The side end 1b of the belt 1 is the inner wall surface 3b of the guide ring 3a.
A stress occurs in the bent portion 1d (near the side end 1b) in the process of the bent portion 1d trying to return to the flat state. That is, as shown by the arrow in FIG. 4C, when the belt 1 is wound around the roller 3, the bent portion 1 d rotates as shown by the arrow and becomes flat as shown by the imaginary line 1 d ′. When trying to become, side end 1b of belt 1
Abuts against the inner wall surface 3b of the guide ring 3a, and nevertheless the bent portion 1d eventually returns to a flat state,
Stress is generated in the bent portion 1d (near the side end 1b). This stress increases as the bending state of the bent portion 1d at the start of winding of the belt 1 around the roller 3 increases, and this large stress is repeatedly generated, so that the vicinity of the side end 1b of the belt 1 is easily damaged. It turned out to be. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, a first object of the present invention is to solve the above-described problems and to provide a fixing device in which the above-described slip is unlikely to occur, a stable fixing operation is performed, and the fixing belt is hard to break.

<Problem 2> The problem that the vicinity of the side end portion 1b of the fixing belt 1 is easily damaged is not limited to the case where the length of the oil application roller 5 is shorter than the width of the fixing belt 1; This also occurs when a pressure contact member shorter than the width of the belt 1, for example, a cleaning blade or a cleaning pad is pressed against the fixing belt at a portion other than the portion where the fixing belt is wound around the roller. Therefore, a second object of the present invention is to solve this problem and to provide a fixing device in which the fixing belt is hardly damaged even though the fixing member is provided.

An endless fixing belt stretched between a plurality of rollers and circulating is press-contacted to one of the plurality of rollers via the fixing belt. And a pressure roller for forming a fixing nip portion between the fixing belt and the fixing belt, so that the recording material on which the toner image has been formed is passed through the fixing nip portion so that the toner image is formed on the recording material. Can be fixed. Also, since the fixing belt is provided with a releasing agent applying and tension applying means for applying a releasing agent to the fixing belt while applying pressure to the fixing belt at a portion other than a portion where the fixing belt is wound around the roller, and applying tension. In addition, the offset phenomenon is less likely to occur, and tension is applied to the fixing belt. Further, the first roller located immediately downstream of the pressure contact portion of the release agent applying / tensioning means with respect to the circulating direction of the fixing belt contacts the side end portion of the fixing belt so that the belt is biased. Is provided, the bias of the fixing belt is regulated. Since the length of the release agent applying and tension applying means is configured to be smaller than the width of the fixing belt, the release agent application width is smaller than the width of the fixing belt. Accordingly, there is basically a region on the surface edge of the fixing belt where the release agent is not applied, and this region acts as a region for preventing the spread of the release agent. A situation in which the applied release agent wraps around the back surface of the fixing belt hardly occurs (at least is significantly reduced). For this reason, according to the fixing device of the present invention, not only when the fixing belt is driven by the roller disposed inside, but also when the fixing belt is driven by the roller disposed outside (for example, the pressure roller). The presence of the region where the release agent is not applied enables stable driving, and as a result, a stable fixing operation is performed. In addition, the release agent applying / tensioning means includes a winding start end of the fixing belt around the first roller and a winding of the fixing belt around a second roller located immediately upstream of the first roller. Second position from the intermediate position with the hanging end
Is pressed against the fixing belt at a position close to the first roller, so that the bent portions of both sides of the fixing belt generated at the pressed portion of the release agent applying / tensioning means when the first belt is wound around the first roller. The state is such that the oil application and tension applying means is in the first position more than the intermediate position.
Compared to the case where pressure contact is made at a position near the roller,
Become smaller. Therefore, when the bending state is eliminated by the fixing belt being wound around the first roller, the stress at the belt side end, which is generated as described above, is reduced. As a result, the vicinity of the belt side end is reduced. Is less likely to be damaged. As described above, according to the fixing device of the first aspect, the slip is less likely to occur and a stable fixing operation is performed, and the fixing belt is hardly damaged.

FIG. 5 shows the above-mentioned prior art (JP-A-8-33).
No. 4997), (a) is a schematic front view, (b)
3 is a plan view mainly showing a fixing nip portion N. FIG. In this conventional fixing device, as shown in FIG.
Pulling direction of fixing belt 1 with respect to (corresponding to "one roller" in the present invention) (see arrow F2)
Are directed toward the upstream side in the passing direction S1 of the recording material passing through the fixing nip N. For this reason, the force F2 acting on the fixing roller 2 due to the tension of the belt 1 stretched between the fixing roller 2 and the heating roller 3 becomes a force toward the upstream side with respect to the recording material passing direction S1. The resultant force F3 of the force F1 acting on the fixing roller 2 by the pressure contact with the pressure roller 4 and the force F2 is also a force directed toward the upstream side in the recording material passing direction S1. For this reason, as shown in FIG.
Is bent by the action of the force F3 so as to be convex on the upstream side in the direction S1. Therefore,
The conveying force acting on the belt 1 at the fixing nip N is
On both sides of the nip N, a force F4 acts in a direction to move the belt 1 toward the center. In the fixing nip portion N, since the belt 1 is pressed between the fixing roller 2 and the pressure roller 4, the conveying force acting on the belt 1 at the nip portion N has a great influence on the belt 1. Therefore, when a force F4 in the direction of moving the belt 1 toward the center in the width direction acts on both sides of the nip portion N, the belt 1 is easily slackened in the width direction by the action of the force F4, and the oil is affected by the slack. The bending state of the bending portions 1d on both sides of the fixing belt 1 in the press contact portion 1c (see FIG. 4) of the application roller 5 increases. For this reason,
The above-mentioned conventional fixing device has a problem that the vicinity of the side end 1b of the belt 1 is easily damaged. On the other hand, according to the fixing device of the present invention, since the pulling direction of the one roller by the fixing belt is toward the downstream side with respect to the passing direction of the recording material passing through the fixing nip portion, the fixing is performed. The force acting on the one roller due to the tension of the belt becomes a force directed downstream with respect to the recording material passing direction. Therefore, the resultant force of this force and the force acting on the one roller due to the pressure contact with the pressure roller is applied. Is also a force directed toward the downstream side in the passing direction of the recording material. Therefore, the axis of the one roller is bent by the action of the resultant force so as to protrude downstream with respect to the passing direction of the recording material. Therefore, the conveying force acting on the belt in the fixing nip portion is a force acting in a direction to spread the belt outward on both sides of the nip portion. As described above, since the belt is nipped by the one roller and the pressure roller in the fixing nip, the conveying force acting on the belt in the nip has a great effect on the belt. Therefore, when a force in the direction of spreading the belt outwardly acts on both sides of the nip portion N, the loosening of the belt in the width direction is less likely to occur on the belt downstream of the nip portion N due to the action of this force. The bending state of the bending portions on both sides of the fixing belt in the press contact portion of the application / tension applying means is reduced. For this reason, when the bending state is eliminated by the fixing belt being wound around the first roller, the stress at the belt side end, which is generated as described above, is further reduced. The vicinity of the part is more difficult to be damaged. In other words, according to the fixing device of the second aspect, the slip is less likely to occur and a stable fixing operation is performed, and the fixing belt is further hardly damaged.

According to a third aspect of the present invention, there is provided a fixing device.
3. The fixing device according to claim 2, wherein the release agent applying / tensioning means is an elastic roller having a hardness of JI.
Since the angle S-A is equal to or less than 30 °, the vicinity of the belt-side end is more difficult to be damaged. When the release agent applying / tensioning means is an elastic roller, its hardness is J.
If the angle exceeds IS-A30 °, the bending state (in this case, the bending angle) of the bending portion on both sides of the fixing belt in the pressure contact portion of the release agent applying and tension applying means becomes sharp, while the hardness thereof is increased. Is less than JIS-A 30 °, the bending state becomes gentle. Therefore, according to the fixing device of the third aspect, when the fixing belt is wound around the first roller and the bent state is eliminated, the stress on the belt side end portion is generated as described above. Is further reduced, and as a result, the vicinity of the belt-side end portion is more difficult to be damaged.

According to the fixing device described in claim 4, according to claim 1,
Or the fixing device according to 2, wherein the release agent applying / tensioning means is a hard roller, the end of which is formed in a curved surface having a radius of 0.1 mm or more, so that the vicinity of the belt-side end is more increased. It is more difficult to break. When the release agent application / tension applying means is a hard roller and its end is formed in a sharp corner having a radius of 0.1 mm or less, in addition to the aforementioned damage due to stress, the release agent application The bending state of the bent portions on both sides of the fixing belt (in this case, the bent corner portion) in the pressure contact portion of the tension applying means becomes tighter, and the bent corner portion itself is more likely to be damaged. If the end is formed into a curved surface having a radius of 0.1 mm or more, the bent state becomes gentle, and the bent corner itself is less likely to be damaged. Therefore, according to the fixing device of the fourth aspect, even though the release agent applying / tensioning means is a hard roller, the bending corner portion itself is hardly damaged, and at the same time, the fixing belt is connected to the fixing belt. The stress on the belt side end, which occurs as described above when the bent state is eliminated by being wound around one roller, is further reduced, and as a result, the vicinity of the belt side end is harder to be damaged. Become.

According to the fixing device of the embodiment described above, the following operation and effect can be obtained. (A) The fixing device includes an endless fixing belt 30 stretched and circulated between the rollers 10 and 20;
And a pressing roller 40 that is pressed against one of the rollers 20 via the fixing belt 30 to form a fixing nip N with the fixing belt 30. , Recording material S1 on which toner image is formed
, The toner image can be fixed on the recording material. Also, the rollers 10 of the fixing belt 30,
20 at a portion other than the portion where the fixing belt 30 is wound around the fixing belt 30.
Is provided with a release agent applying and tension applying means 50 for applying a release agent to the fixing belt 30 while applying pressure to the fixing belt 30, so that the offset phenomenon is less likely to occur and the tension is applied to the fixing belt 30. Will be done. Further, the first roller 10 located immediately downstream of the pressure contact portion P of the release agent applying / tensioning means 50 in the circulation direction of the fixing belt 30 is brought into contact with the side end portion 31 of the fixing belt 30 by being brought into contact therewith. Since the regulating portion 11 for regulating the deviation of the belt 30 is provided, the deviation of the fixing belt 30 is regulated. Since the length of the release agent applying / tensioning means 50 is configured to be smaller than the width of the fixing belt 30, the width of the release agent applied is smaller than the width of the fixing belt 30. Therefore, a region where the release agent is not applied basically exists at the surface edge portion (near the side end portion 31) of the fixing belt 30, and this region serves as a region for preventing the spread of the release agent. As a result, the situation in which the release agent applied to the front surface of the fixing belt 30 wraps around to the rear surface of the fixing belt 30 hardly occurs (at least is significantly reduced). For this reason, according to the fixing device of the present embodiment, when the fixing belt 30 is driven by a roller (for example, the second roller 20) disposed inside, the roller (for example, pressure In the case of driving with the roller 40), stable driving is possible due to the presence of the region where the release agent is not applied, and as a result, a stable fixing operation is performed. In addition, as shown in FIG.
The intermediate position between the start end of the fixing belt 30 wrapping around the first roller 10 and the terminal end of the wrapping of the fixing belt 30 around the second roller 20 located immediately upstream of the first roller 10. 2 is pressed against the fixing belt at a position close to the second roller 20, the bent portions 32 on both sides of the fixing belt generated at the press contact portion P of the release agent applying and tension applying means 50 are wound around the first roller 10. The bent state when the pressing is performed is smaller than when the oil applying and tension applying means 50 is pressed against the first roller 10 at a position closer to the first roller 10 than the intermediate position. Accordingly, when the fixing belt 30 is wound around the first roller 10 to eliminate the bent state, the stress at the belt side end 31 which is generated as described above is reduced, and as a result, the belt side end The vicinity of the portion 31 is hardly damaged. As described above, according to the fixing device of this embodiment,
The above-described slip is unlikely to occur, so that a stable fixing operation is performed, and the fixing belt is hardly damaged.

(B) The direction in which the fixing belt 30 pulls the second roller 20 toward the downstream side with respect to the direction of passage of the recording material passing through the fixing nip portion N (the direction of arrow S1). As shown in a), the force F2 acting on the second roller 20 due to the tension of the fixing belt 30 becomes a force directed to the downstream side with respect to the recording material passing direction. The resultant force F3 with the force F1 acting on the second roller 20 by the pressure contact is also a force directed to the downstream side with respect to the recording material passing direction. For this reason, as shown in FIG.
The axis 20a of the roller 20 is bent by the action of the resultant force F3 so as to protrude downstream with respect to the recording material passing direction. Therefore, the conveying force acting on the belt 30 at the fixing nip N is a force F5 acting on the both sides of the nip N in a direction to spread the belt 30 outward. As described above, in the fixing nip portion N, the belt 30 is connected to the second roller 20 and the pressing roller 4.
Since the pressure is clamped at 0, the conveying force acting on the belt 30 at the nip N has a great influence on the belt. Therefore, when a force F5 in the direction of spreading the belt 30 outwardly acts on both sides of the nip portion N, the belt 30 is less likely to slack in the width direction on the downstream side of the nip portion N due to the action of the force F5. In addition, the bent state of the bent portions 32 on both sides of the fixing belt 30 in the press contact portion P of the release agent applying and tension applying means 50 is reduced. Therefore, when the fixing belt 30 is wound around the first roller 10 and the bent state is eliminated, the stress at the belt side end 31 which is generated as described above is further reduced. Side end 3
1 becomes more difficult to be damaged. That is, according to the fixing device of this embodiment, the above-described slip is unlikely to occur and a stable fixing operation is performed, and the fixing belt 30 is further hardly damaged.

(C) Release agent coating and tension applying means 5
0 is an elastic roller whose hardness is JIS-A30 °
As described below, the vicinity of the belt-side end portion 31 is more difficult to be damaged. When the release agent applying / tensioning means 50 is an elastic roller, its hardness is JIS-A
If the angle exceeds 30 °, the bent state of the bent portions 32 on both sides of the fixing belt in the pressure contact portion P of the release agent applying and tension applying means 50 becomes sharp (corresponding to the bent angle θ in FIG. 4C). In contrast, if the hardness is JIS-A 30 ° or less, the bending state becomes gentle. Therefore, according to the fixing device of the present embodiment, when the fixing belt 30 is wound around the first roller 10 to eliminate the bent state, the belt-side end 31 of the belt-side end 31 is generated as described above. The stress is further reduced, and as a result, the vicinity of the belt-side end 31 is more difficult to be damaged.

According to this embodiment, the same operation and effect as the operation and effect (a) and (b) of the first embodiment can be obtained. When the release agent application / tension applying means 50 is a hard roller and its end is formed in a sharp corner having a radius of 0.1 mm or less, in addition to the damage due to the stress described above, the release agent application The bent state of the bent portions 32 on both sides of the fixing belt at the pressure contact portion P of the tension applying means 50 (in this case, the bent corner portions 32a (see FIG. 1B))
However, when the end portion of the roller is formed into a curved surface having a radius of 0.1 mm or more, the bent state becomes gentle, whereas the bent corner portion 32a itself is liable to be damaged and the bent corner portion 32a itself is easily damaged. In addition, breakage of the bent corner 32a itself is less likely to occur. Therefore, according to the fixing device of this embodiment, although the release agent applying / tensioning means 50 is a hard roller, the bending corner 32a itself is hardly damaged, and at the same time, the fixing belt 30 First
When the bent state is eliminated by being wound around the roller 10, the stress on the belt side end 32, which is generated as described above, is further reduced, and as a result, the vicinity of the belt side end is further damaged. It becomes difficult.

The fixing device according to this embodiment includes rollers 10,
Endless fixing belt 30 that is stretched and circulated between 20
And the fixing belt 30 is pressed against one of the rollers 10 and 20 via the fixing belt 30.
And a pressure roller 40 forming a fixing nip portion N between the recording material S1 and the recording material S1 on which the toner image has been formed. Can be fixed. Further, since the fixing belt 30 is provided with a pressure contact member 60 which is pressed against the fixing belt 30 and applies tension to the fixing belt 30 at a portion other than the portion where the fixing belt 30 is wound around the rollers 10 and 20, fixing is performed by the pressure contact member 60. The tension is applied to the belt 30. Further, the fixing belt 30
The first roller 10 located immediately downstream of the pressure contact portion P of the pressure contact member 60 with respect to the circulation direction of the pressure contact member 60 contacts a side end of the fixing belt 30 to regulate the belt bias. 1), the deviation of the fixing belt 30 is regulated. The pressing member 60 is configured such that its length is smaller than the width of the fixing belt 30. However, the pressing member 60 is disposed between the first roller 10 and the first roller 10. Since the fixing roller 30 is pressed against the fixing belt 30 at a position closer to the second roller 20 than the intermediate position between the second roller 20 located on the upstream side and the winding end portion of the fixing belt, the pressing portion P of the pressing member 60 is pressed. The bent portions (see 32 in FIG. 1B) on both sides of the fixing belt generated in the first step are the first.
The bent state when the roller is wound around the roller 10 is smaller than when the pressing member is pressed against the first roller at a position closer to the first roller than at the intermediate position. Therefore, when the bending state is eliminated by the fixing belt 30 being wound around the first roller 10, the stress on the belt side end, which is generated as described above, is reduced. The neighborhood is hard to be damaged.
As described above, according to the fixing device of the present embodiment, the fixing belt 32 is hardly damaged even though the pressing member 60 having a width shorter than the width of the fixing belt 30 is provided. Further, since the pulling direction (F2) of the second roller 20 by the fixing belt 30 is toward the downstream side with respect to the passing direction of the recording material passing through the fixing nip portion N,
As described for the operation and effect of the first embodiment,
On the downstream side of the nip portion N, the belt 30 is less likely to be slackened in the width direction, and the bent state of the bent portions on both sides of the fixing belt 30 in the pressed portion P of the pressed member 60 is reduced, so that the vicinity of the belt side end is reduced. Is more difficult to break.
