del brevetto per Invenzione Industriale dal titolo: of the patent for Industrial Invention entitled:

"MACCHINA ELETTRICA CON ROTORE A MAGNETI PERMANENTI" "ELECTRIC MACHINE WITH PERMANENT MAGNET ROTOR"

di MAGNETI MARELLI S.P.A., of MAGNETI MARELLI S.P.A.,

The present invention relates to an electric machine with a permanent magnet rotor.

The present invention finds advantageous application to an electric vehicle for motor vehicles to which the following description will make explicit reference without thereby losing generality.

ARTE ANTERIORE ANTERIOR ART

In road vehicles, electric traction is becoming increasingly popular in combination with traditional thermal traction to create hybrid traction.

One of the major problems that must be faced when inserting an electric machine in a road vehicle is the management of the overall dimensions, as it is not easy to find the space necessary to house the electric machine and its electronic power converter together with the dedicated mechanical transmission. to the electric car. Consequently, in order to be able to place the electric machine inside a vehicle it is necessary to limit the dimensions of the electric machine; however, a "small" electric machine generally has reduced performance (ie other characteristics being equal, the smaller an electric machine, the lower its performance). In order to be able to build an electric machine which, despite being small in size, has high performance, it is necessary to increase the rotation speeds of the rotor.

In the automotive sector, the most used electric machine is a synchronous electric machine with permanent magnet rotor (ie arranged inside the rotor); in an electric machine of this type, there is a structural problem of rotor resistance when reaching high rotation speeds (for example above 10,000 rpm). In other words, at high speeds of rotation the laminations that make up the magnetic core of the rotor may not be strong enough to counteract the centrifugal force acting on the permanent magnets and therefore the permanent magnets pushed by the centrifugal force can deform the rotor radially causing a mechanical interference between the rotor and the stator and therefore the mechanical nailing of the rotor against the stator.

To solve the problem described above, it is possible to use laminations which have a high mechanical resistance; however, the laminations which have a high mechanical resistance also have poorer magnetic characteristics (and therefore penalize the performance of the electric machine, nullifying the increase in performance obtained by increasing the rotation speed) or are very expensive.

To increase the mechanical strength of the rotor in a synchronous electric machine with permanent magnet rotor it has been proposed to make each magnetic pole of the rotor by means of two permanent magnets which are arranged side by side (often forming a "V" shape between them). a certain distance from each other in such a way that between the two magnets there is a "bridge" (ie a strip of ferromagnetic material of the magnetic core) which is oriented radially between the two magnets and has the function of increasing the mechanical resistance against radial stresses (i.e. against centrifugal force). Examples of a synchronous electric machine with permanent magnet rotor of the type described above are described in patent applications US2008007131A1 or WO2006003244A2.

From the magnetic point of view, these "bridges" must be as small as possible, as they are crossed by dispersed magnetic flux (consisting of the part of the magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnets which does not close again affecting the stator through the air gap); that is, the smaller a "bridge", the sooner it becomes magnetically saturated, containing the percentage of the dispersed magnetic flux. On the other hand, from the structural point of view, these "bridges" must be as large as possible, since the larger they are, the greater the contribution they make to the mechanical resistance against radial stresses. Finding an optimal compromise between the contrasting needs of minimizing the dispersed magnetic fluxes and maximizing the mechanical resistance against radial stresses is often impossible and therefore the overall usefulness of the "bridges" is in any case limited.

FORME DI ATTUAZIONE PREFERITE DELL'INVENZIONE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

In figure 1, the number 1 indicates as a whole a synchronous electric machine for self-propulsion of the reversible type (i.e. it can work both as an electric motor by absorbing electrical energy and generating a mechanical drive torque, and as an electric generator by absorbing mechanical energy and generating electric energy). The electric machine 1 comprises a shaft 2, which is rotatably mounted to rotate around a central rotation axis 3, a cylindrical permanent magnet rotor 4 keyed to the shaft 2 to rotate together with the shaft 2 itself, and a stator 5 of cylindrical tubular shape arranged around the rotor 4 to enclose the rotor 4 itself inside.

According to what is illustrated in Figure 2, the rotor 4 comprises a magnetic core 6 consisting of a series of laminations tightly packed together and a plurality of magnetic poles 7 consisting of permanent magnets 8 which are embedded inside the magnetic core 6 (they are called machines synchronous with internal permanent magnets, electrical machines that have permanent magnets incorporated into the structure that makes up the rotor; this term is used to distinguish them from synchronous machines with surface magnets, in which the magnets are facing the air gap and therefore exposed to the stator) .

According to what is also illustrated in Figure 3, each magnetic pole 7 consists of two permanent magnets 8 (not illustrated in Figure 3) which are arranged side by side at a certain distance from each other in respective seats 9 (better visible in Figure 3) ) obtained axially inside the magnetic core 6; according to a preferred embodiment, in each magnetic pole 7 the two permanent magnets 8 are arranged inclined relative to each other in such a way that the two permanent magnets 8 form a "V" shape (with an obtuse angle at the vertex).

As illustrated in Figure 3, the two seats 9 of the same magnetic pole 7 are arranged at a certain distance from each other in such a way that between the two seats 9 the magnetic core 6 has a bridge 10 (i.e. a strip of material magnetic core 6) which is radially oriented and straddles the two magnets 8. The function of each bridge 10 is to increase the mechanical resistance of the magnetic core 6 at the magnetic pole 7 to better resist the radial stresses generated by the centrifugal force. In each magnetic pole 7, the seats 9 of the two permanent magnets 8 have respective appendages 11 which form an extension of the bridge 10; in particular, each seat 9 has two appendages 11 which are radially oriented and rise perpendicularly from opposite sides of the seat 9. In this way, the bridge 10 has a radial dimension which is considerably greater than the radial dimension of the seats 9 (obviously measured outside the appendages 11), according to a preferred embodiment, the bridge 10 has a radial dimension which is at least double the radial dimension of the seats 9.

According to a preferred embodiment, each appendix 11 has a "drop" shape having a circumferential dimension which progressively widens away from the seat 9; that is, each appendix 11 has a circumferential dimension which is minimum in correspondence with the seat 9 and increases progressively away from the seat 9. Furthermore, each appendix 11 has a rounded shape in section on the side opposite to the seat 9.

According to a preferred embodiment, each bridge 10 has a circumferential dimension (i.e. a width) which is constant along its entire radial extension, i.e. both between the two seats 9 and between the four appendages 11 of the two seats 9.

Thanks to the presence of the appendages 11 which "extend" each bridge 10 well beyond the radial dimension of the seats 9, the bridge 10 can have a significant width (i.e. a circumferential dimension) (and therefore a great mechanical resistance) while at the same time presenting a magnetic reluctance (ie a "resistance" to the passage of magnetic flux) high. In this way, the bridges 10 become magnetically saturated already with small magnetic fluxes and therefore the dispersed magnetic flux (i.e. the portion of the magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnets 8 which does not close again affecting the stator 5 through the air gap) which passes through the bridges 10 is modest; at the same time, the bridges 10 are sufficiently wide to make a significant contribution to the mechanical resistance against the radial stresses of the magnetic core 6. In other words, in order to reduce the dispersed magnetic flux that passes through the bridges 10 instead of reducing the width of the bridges 10 (thus reducing their mechanical strength), the radial length of the bridges 10 is increased by means of the appendages 11 of the seats 9. For summarily, thanks to the presence of the appendages 11 which "lengthen" each bridge 10 well beyond the radial dimension of the seats 9, it is possible to find an optimal compromise which guarantees at the same time both an adequate mechanical resistance and a containment of the dispersed magnetic fluxes.

According to a preferred embodiment, between two consecutive magnetic poles 7 the magnetic core 6 has two grooves 12 which originate from an external surface of the magnetic core 6 and are inclined towards each other forming a "V" shape. Between them, two grooves 12 define a protuberance 13 of trapezoidal shape having a progressively increasing dimension towards the outside (i.e. with the smaller base facing the center of the magnetic core 6 and the larger base in correspondence with the external surface of the magnetic core 6 ). The function of the grooves 12 is to reduce the dispersed magnetic flux (i.e. the portion of the magnetic flux generated by the permanent magnets 8 which does not close again affecting the stator 5 through the air gap) creating an obstacle to the magnetic flux that is required inside. of the magnetic core 6 without passing through the stator 5. In other words, the magnetic flux that "turns" around the magnetic poles 7 is inserted into the protuberances 13 which, due to the presence of the grooves 12, push the magnetic flux itself towards the stator 5 rather than back inside the magnetic core 6.

According to what is illustrated in Figure 2, the magnetic core 6 has circular lightening holes 14 which are arranged axially and internally to the magnetic core 6 and pass through the entire magnetic core 6 from side to side.

La macchina 1 elettrica sopra descritta presenta numerosi vantaggi. The electric machine 1 described above has numerous advantages.

In the first place, the electric machine 1 described above is simple and inexpensive to manufacture, since the appendages 11 of each seat 9 can be simply obtained during the punching of the magnetic laminations that make up the magnetic core 6 without any appreciable increase in cost.

Moreover, thanks to the presence of the appendages 11 which "lengthen" each bridge 10 well beyond the radial dimension of the seats 9, it is possible to find an optimal compromise which guarantees at the same time both an adequate mechanical resistance and a containment of the dispersed magnetic fluxes.

Thanks to the presence of the bridges 10 which have an "important" width, the maximum rotation speed of the electric machine 1 can be substantially increased with respect to a similar known electric machine 1 (without the appendages 11 of the seats 9) which has the same level of dispersed magnetic flux: by way of example, the electric machine 1 equipped with the appendages 11 of the seats 9 can reach a maximum rotation speed of at least 16,000 rpm, while (with the same dispersed magnetic flux) the electric machine 1 has no appendages 11 of the seats 9 can reach a maximum rotation speed not exceeding 10,000 rpm.
