Description
DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
The present invention is included both in the field of medical devices, in particular of catheter containment devices, and in the more generically sanitary field of bandages.
Percutaneous Endoscopy Gastrostomy (PEG) is an endoscopic procedure that connects the gastric cavity to the outside, through a tube of 5-7 rum in diameter, to allow the intake of food and liquids in subjects who have difficulty swallowing (for organic or functional diseases).
PEG is a procedure that is used in patients in whom there is a temporary (more than one month) or permanent inability to feed by mouth and in which, however, it is possible to reach the gastric cavity endoscopically. This occurs in pathologies affecting the oropharynx, the esophagus, the mediastinum (tumors, caustic lesions, peptic stenosis, etc.).
In particular, it constitutes the technique of choice for NED (Home Enteral Nutrition) in patients with dysphagic outcomes of acute neurological diseases (cranio-encephalic trauma, cerebral vascular damage) and in many chronic neurological diseases (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, cerebrovascular accidents, dementia of Alzheimer's, Pseudobulbar syndrome, myotonic dystrophy, myasthenia, Parkinson's disease and multi-infarct dementia).
P.E.G. it is a safe procedure, burdened by a low incidence of major complications (1.2%). The most frequent complication is represented by infection of the skin around the stoma, ranging from simple skin rash to abscess and necrotizing fasciitis. The average duration of a prosthesis is about 1 year, but it can vary according to the material used and the maintenance.
The management of P.E.G. it is quite complicated both from the point of view of the wound dressing and the cleaning of the probe itself (on average every 8 hours). Currently, the portion of the tube (probe) that protrudes from the body is fixed to the body by means of patches or left free.
On the market there are also elastic bands in plastic material used to waterproof the P.E.G., which, however, can be used for a rather short period of time (generally the time necessary for the bath).
1 patients who use P.E.G. they must keep the probe for several months, sometimes for life, so it is preferable to preserve the probe to avoid infections and therefore periodic replacements with annoying interventions on the patient.
Another critical element of P.E.G. is the administration of food and drinks in different places from one's home (for example while traveling), when it is not possible to thoroughly clean the outside of the probe and any traces of food may remain on the probe itself and stain clothes.
It is also important for patients with P.E.G. maintain a good quality of life, making P.E.G. less visible and less annoying as possible.
A first object of the present invention is to provide a device which allows to reduce the frequency of replacement of the probe, in particular to provide a containment device which allows both to contain the external part of the probe and to preserve the stoma from possible infections.
The above purpose is achieved with a system consisting of a probe containment device consisting of a cloth band, preferably of sterilizable cotton, folded inwards and closed on both sides to form a pocket; the band will be equipped with at least two elastic ties of useful length to surround the waist of the patient who will wear it.
These elastic ties will allow the device to adapt to the physical and motor needs of the user.
The inside pocket will be shaped in the shape of a half moon in order not to contrast the P.E.G.
Another advantage of the present invention results from the possibility of making the internal part (pocket) of the containment device waterproof so as to contain any small leaks of food due to an imperfect closure of the probe.
Furthermore, since the device is made generally of cotton fabric, it can be characterized by innumerable chromatic fantasies such as to make it psychologically acceptable even by patients at an early age.
For Γ use of the device in hospital environments, it is also envisaged to be made in disposable material, such as non-woven fabric.
Ulteriori caratteristiche e vantaggi della presente invenzione industriale appariranno maggiormente chiari dalla descrizione indicativa, e pertanto non limitativa, di un esempio di utilizzo del dispositivo di contenimento per P.E.G., come illustrato nei disegni allegati in cui: Further characteristics and advantages of the present industrial invention will become clearer from the indicative, and therefore non-limiting, description of an example of use of the containment device for P.E.G., as illustrated in the attached drawings in which:
