Abstract
A process for the preparation of L-α-glyceryl phosphoryl ethanolamine and L-α-(diacetyl)-glyceryl phosphoryl ethanolamine in the anhydrous, monohydrated, dihydrated and trihydrated forms comprising the reaction of compound II <IMAGE> in which R1 is an alkali metal cation or a tetraalkyl ammonium group with (+)-1,2-isopropylidene-sn-glyceryl tosylate, treatment of the product so obtained with a hydrohalogen acid at pH 2 to 4, acetylization of the product so obtained if required, treatment with zinc in H2O/THF in the presence of HCl at pH 4-5 and crystallization from water-alcohol mixtures to obtain the hydrated forms is described. This invention also relates to the monohydrated, dihydrated and trihydrated forms of L-α-(diacetyl)-glyceryl phosphoryl ethanolamine.
