Abstract

1428150 Moulding reinforced pipes TAKATA KOJYO CO Ltd 17 Oct 1973 [18 Oct 1972] 48284/73 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] A method of forming a fibre reinforced pipe comprises producing a preform A having peripherally extending stretchable fibres 2 embedded in a synthetic resin body 3 and radially expanding the preform to the required size, the fibres 2 being stretched and oriented peripherally of the preform A. The preform A may be expanded by applying pressure gas to the interior thereof. Non-stretchable oriented fibres 1 may be provided longitudinally of the preform. The fibres 1, 2 may be present as overlying layers or as a woven cloth. More than one layer of cloth may be provided in a coaxial or multiconvolution spiral arrangement. The fibres 2 may be of polyester or nylon and the fibres 1 may additionally be of glass. The body 3 may be a thermosetting or thermoplastic resin, e.g. plasticized or non-plasticized P.V.C., polyvinylidene chloride. [GB1428150A]

Claims (10)

CLAIMS WHAT IS CLAIMED IS:
1. The method of producing a fiber reinforced polymer resin conduit comprising the steps of forming a tube of reduced diameter of a matrix of an elongatable synthetic organic polymeric resin composition, having embedded therein peripherally extending irreversible synthetic organic polymeric fibers, having a high no»-¾» oovera^le elongation and expanding said tube to effect the peripheral non-recoverable elongation of said matrix and said peripherally extend ing reinforcing fibers.
2. The method of claim 1 wherein said reinforcing fibers comprise a fabric web including a peripherally extending weft formed of synthetic organic polymeric filaments having ja large non-recoverable elongation .
3. The method of claim 2 wherein said weft is formed of non-^ratcn oriented filaments..
4. The method of claim 2 wherein said web includes longitudinally extending warps^ of low elongation.
5. The method of claim 1 wherein said tube is heated prior to the full expansion thereof.
6. The method of claim 1 wherein said resin composition is curable to a relatively hard state upon being heated to a predeter mined temperature and heating the expanded tube to at least said temperature for a time to effect the curing of said resin to said hard state.

A tube comprising a tubular wall formed of a matrix of irreversible a synthetic organic polymeric resin which has a nooaracQverable elongation above a predetermined temperature and having embedded therein peripherally extending synthetic fibers having a high irreversible naaxi!&covera jL-e elongation .
8. C. The tube of claim 8 wherein aaid matrix has embedded therein longitudinally extending warp yarns of high strength and low elongation and said peripherally jsxtending fibers, are defined by filament weft yarns.
9. The tube of claim 8 wherein said resin is curable to a hardened state at a predetermined elevated temperature.
