The present invention relates to a floor covering, in particular a floor covering made of hard panels. The invention also relates to a panel for such a floor covering.

In a non-limiting sense, the present invention relates to a laminate flooring, also referred to as "laminated parquet" in the art.

As is known, laminated panels can be made of different layers. Generally, these panels are made of wood-based panels, such as sheets of chipboard, in particular MDF or HDF, and have one or more layers applied, including the decor layer, which is used at least on the upper side. The upper deck layer may be a printed paper layer, but in some embodiments it may also be made of a ply, especially of a veneer sheet. Of course, such panels can also be made of other materials, such as pure plastic. However, variants are also possible in which the base part of the panel is made of a flute sheet, such as chipboard, MDF or HDF, or the like, and instead of this printed paper layer or veneer layer another material is used as a deck layer, such as a cork layer, wood planks, or the like.

The first advantage is that the panels according to the invention can be moved much more easily in relation to each other by their translation or removal from each other, since they do not have circular or curved portions which prevent the panels from rotating relative to one another. The panels are rectangular and elongated, and have at least two opposite longitudinal edges coupled with coupling units for connecting and disassembling adjacent panels. In addition, the switching units are in a direction perpendicular to the plane of the floor covering and also provide a parallel to the plane of the floor covering and perpendicular to the edges. The coupling units are secured by means of the relative rotation of the panels along their longitudinal edges by the relative rotation of the panels. A further preferred embodiment of the floor covering according to the invention consists of hard panels of laminated structure having a top layer on the upper surface. As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the floor covering 1 according to the invention is in this case composed of a series of 2 panels.

Thus, the switching units 7 enable reliable connection of the panels 2 without adhesive in accordance with the invention, at least at their two edges, but preferably at each of their four edges, while allowing the panels 2 to be disassembled by their relative rotation.

The relative rotation mentioned above is described in more detail with reference to Figs. 6 and 7, and the relative offset operation with reference to Fig. 8. A further advantage of the present invention is that it is still possible for the adhesive bond to be a gap-free or virtually no-gap connection, even in the case of thinner panels, which can be rotated relative to one another, but not having excessive compression forces along the edges. which could otherwise cause damage. It will be appreciated by one of ordinary skill in the art that the invention can be applied to elongated panels 2, as, e.g. Figure 2 is illustrated but also for panels 2 having a square cross-section.

The second feature of the invention is illustrated by way of example in FIGS. 1 and 2, in combination with the aforementioned first feature, but this can be accomplished independently of the first feature. Thus, the floor covering 1 according to the invention is in this case composed of hard panels 2 having a core 23 and an upper surface 24. The switching units 7 provide a connection perpendicular to the plane of the floor covering 1, on the one hand, and a connection perpendicular to the edges 3-6 and parallel to the plane of the floor covering. Consequently, the switching units 7 are designed so that the panels 2 can be assembled and / or disengaged by their relative rotation along their edges 3 and 4 and / or 5 and 6.

According to a further feature of the invention, the width B of the panels 2 is preferably less than 17 cm, preferably 15.5 cm. When using such a relatively narrow width B, in combination with the switching units 7, the disassembly of the panels is done by their relative rotation as illustrated in Figure 6. The advantage of this is that the panel to be dismantled must be rotated in accordance with the height H2, i.e. in relatively small sizes, before it is lifted, and since this height is relatively small, thus eliminating the adverse effects mentioned in the introduction.

Further, the invention has the feature that the length L of the panels 2 is selected to be at least eight times the width of B.

Preferably, the panels 2 according to the invention are provided with a single pattern that is repeated on the entire top surface, and this pattern may be mainly a wood pattern.

Figure 9 shows a third embodiment of the invention. Accordingly, the floor covering 1 according to the invention is also made of hard panels 2 having a laminated structure. In other words, they have 25 deck layers on their upper surface. It is an object of the present invention to use slanted flaps 15 in the panels

Figures 10 and 11 schematically illustrate how printing 26 can be performed on transferring 27 surfaces. To this end, a support layer 28 is provided, which is provided with a printer layer 29 and is connected to the surface 27. The printer layer 29 is arranged on a pressure cylinder 30 which may be heated in this case. By actuating the pressure roller 30, the printer layer 29 adheres to the panel material 2 and detaches from the support layer 28 to produce the above-mentioned printing 26. The support layer 28 can be fed from the roller 31 to the site of use with the printer layer 29. The support layer 28 as the endless layer can be wound onto a drum 32 after the printer layer 29 has been transferred to the surface 27.

It should be noted that other transfer printing techniques may also be used, but are known to those of ordinary skill in the art.

It will be appreciated that the first and third features of the present invention may be implemented together with a preferred embodiment of the present invention. One or more, preferably all, sloping flaps 15 are configured at an angle such that the projection defined by flattening 15 actually extends beyond or out of the contour of panel 2 as indicated by W lines in FIGS. 3, 4 and 10. This is advantageous, since both the oblique flaps 15 and the printing 26 make these oblique flanges easily accessible to the machine parts used.

According to the invention, the floor covering may also consist of hard panels 2 having a core 23 and made of MDF or HDF-based material or the like. A feature of this embodiment is that each of the panels 2 is individually provided with a substrate layer 36, which may be made of plastic or damping or insulating material. It will be apparent from the foregoing that this fourth embodiment of the invention may also be applied to laminated floor panels, such panels having, for example, conventional projections and grooves along their edges, and may be used in combination with panels in which the switching units provide horizontal and vertical connection between the panels, e.g. 7 switching units described above.
