Abstract

The present invention disclosed a product/service input device 20 configured to read and collect product identification data which may be in various form of coding system including but not limited to a barcode, a QR code, an audio code, a number code, or letter code. The product/service input device 20 is further configured to process and store the collected product identification data and transmit the product identification data over a network to an order management system 30 administered by one or more product ordering service providers 40, service providers 50 or bill payment service providers 60. The product input/service device 20 together with the order management system 30 is configured to create a shopping list based on the data transmitted from product/service input device and enable one or more one or more product ordering service providers 40, service providers 50 or bill payment service providers 60 to fulfill the shopping list for delivery. A method for generating a shopping/servicing list and fulfilling the shopping/servicing list using the product/service input device 20 is also disclosed.

Description

Product/service input device
Technical Field
The invention relates to computer engineering and/or electrical engineering. In particular, the present invention relates to product/service input devices, systems and methods for generating shopping/service lists and completing the lists.
Background
In the fast paced environment of modern life where time is of great importance, once or twice a week visiting a store, supermarket or retail outlet to replenish the inventory of grocery products, commodities, fresh produce in accordance with a pre-prepared shopping list is no longer a selective or enjoyable experience for at least some people. Some people may find it difficult to pick all desired products and goods at the store to complete the list. Some people may find it difficult to manage shopping lists for, for example, a family having a plurality of family members. Some people (e.g., elderly or disabled people) may find it difficult to visit all stores together. Further, where various service offers are available (e.g., home cleaning services, home care services, food/grocery delivery services, laundry services, etc.), some people prefer to require services and comfortably wait for services in their own living spaces and/or have services delivered to the vicinity of their residences or to conduct certain transactions (e.g., bill payments) from their own devices.
With today's market pressures and advances in technology and services, problems remain in that while home shopping services, home delivery services, can reduce the burden on some people. For example, in some cases, people may need to order products/services via cell phones, and thus, checking shopping lists, confirming product/service identification, or confirming delivery addresses can create a number of problems. In another example, a person may need to own a particular computing device (e.g., a smartphone, a desktop computer, a tablet computer, etc.), who may not be affordable or find it difficult to operate the device and associated software or applications to accomplish a task.
Simpler and potentially more comfortable devices, systems, and methods have been attempted to address the deficiencies and problems associated with aspects of the present technology. For example:
WO/2015/130709 discloses a handheld electronic device for generating and processing shopping lists, which device is operable in a voice input mode or a scan input mode. When operating in the voice input mode, the handheld electronic device may record and store audio data in the memory. In some cases, the stored audio data may be communicated (e.g., via a WIFI connection) from the handheld electronic device to one or more remote computing devices (e.g., for voice processing). When operating the scan-in mode, the handheld electronic device may record item identifier information and store the item identifier information (e.g., as barcode data) in memory, where, in some cases, the stored item identifier data may be communicated to one or more remote computing devices (e.g., for item identification processing). While the device may be considered simple and easy to operate, the device and associated system are rather rigid in terms of the ability of the user to interact with the device, conveying product information to the user. Accordingly, alternative devices, systems, and methods are desired.
Disclosure of Invention
It is an object of the present invention to provide a product/service input device and method for generating a shopping/service list and completing the list that is efficient, user friendly and provides a more enjoyable home shopping experience.
In one aspect of the invention, the invention provides a product/service input device for generating a shopping/service list. The product/service input device is configured to read and collect product/service identification, which may be in the form of various encoding systems (e.g., bar code, QR code, etc.). The device is further configured to process and store the collected product/service identification data and transmit such data over a network to a remote computing device that is part of an order management system. The order management system is configured to create a shopping/service list based on data sent from the product/service input device and enable one or more service providers, retailers, suppliers to complete the shopping list to make a delivery or complete the service list.
In the embodiment of the present invention, the product/service input means functions as a terminal for generating a shopping/service list. The product/service input device includes: a central processing unit on which a software application or computer program is run, the software application or computer program being designed specifically for such specific purposes and functions; a display unit for allowing a user to interact with the apparatus; a product/service identification code scanner/reader having an activation device (e.g., a proximity sensor or switch) configured to activate the product identification code scanner/reader to scan or read a product/service identification code (e.g., a barcode or QR code, etc.); a connection device configured to allow the product/service input device to connect, wired or wirelessly over a network, to a remote computing system to be able to transmit data including product/service identification data to be processed by an order management system managed by one or more product or service order providers, or bill pay service providers, and associated suppliers and delivery agencies as part of the order management system. The product/service input device includes a power source, which may be in the form of a battery (including and not limited to a dry cell battery or a rechargeable battery) or a power source (such as a wall outlet). In the case of a wall outlet, the product/service input device also includes an AC/DC adapter.
In an embodiment of the present invention, the connecting device of the product/service input device includes: a GSM module (e.g., air card with SIM card) that enables the sending of product identification data via a cellular network; or a WIFI module; or a bluetooth module; or a connection for allowing the product/service identification data to be sent to the order management system, either by wire or wirelessly.
In an embodiment of the invention, the product/service input device is linked to a payment gateway linked to a financial institution, said payment gateway being configured to facilitate and process electronic payments (such as payments using credit or debit cards, electronic banking services) allowing payment transactions of purchased products/services.
In embodiments of the invention, the product/service input device is configured as a fixed (e.g., wall-mounted unit) or portable unit. In embodiments where the product/service input device is designed to be stationary, a product/service identification code scanner/reader with an activation device (e.g., a proximity sensor) is constructed to be integrated into the product/service input device. In an embodiment of the invention, the product/service input device is plug-in, wherein the product/service input device is connected to the power source through a wall socket using a suitable cord. In this embodiment, the product/service input device may have a built-in AC/DC adapter, or it may have an external AC/DC adapter. In embodiments where the product/service input device is designed to be portable, the product/service identification code scanner/reader and activation device are constructed and powered by a built-in rechargeable battery.
In an embodiment of the invention, the product/service input device includes a product/service identification code scanner/reader as a removable unit configured to be removable from a body of the product/service input device to enable mobility of the product/service identification code scanner/reader, a proximity sensor. The removable unit is powered by a power source, which may be the same power source or a separate power source for the product/service input device. The removable unit is configured to read and collect product/service identification code data and to be able to transmit or send such data to the product/service input device.
In an embodiment of the invention, the product/service input device further comprises an external input switch configured to read, collect and store product/service identification data and configured to be operable to assist the product/service input device, including allowing wired or wireless transmission of the product/service identification code data to the product/service input device.
In an embodiment, the external input switch includes a central processing unit having an internal memory unit, a power source (e.g., a rechargeable battery or batteries) to power the external switch, and a bluetooth module that allows the external input switch to communicate with the product/service input device.
In an embodiment, the external input switch is configured to pre-store specified product/service identification data and specified quantities/units of product/service to facilitate mass ordering/purchasing of a particular product/service. The specified product/service identification data and the specified quantity/unit are transmitted to the product/service input device via a bluetooth connection. This specific product/service identification data will form part of the shopping/service list generation process. Other forms of near field communication between the external input switch and the product/service input device are also possible.
In an embodiment, the external input switch is configured to be programmable to enable a change in the specified product/service identification and the specified amount/unit stored in the memory unit of the external input switch.
In an embodiment, the product/service input device is configured to be operable to conduct bill settlement with a bill payment service provider such that bills (e.g., utility bills, credit card bills, telephone bills, etc.) are allowed to be paid through the product/input device.
In an embodiment, the product/service input device is configured to communicate with a remote computing device, server, cloud server, or the like that is part of an order management system, wherein the product/service input device is configured to receive content (push content) from such remote computing device, server, cloud server, or the like that is part of the order management system managed by one or more product or service order providers, or bill payment service providers, and associated suppliers and delivery agencies that are part of the order management system. In embodiments, the content may be in the form of text messages, audio visual content, which may be directed to promotional text messages, in-store discount offers, service discount offers, and the like.
In another aspect of the present invention, the present invention provides a method of generating a shopping/service list and completing the shopping/service list using the product/service input device according to the present invention.
In an embodiment of the invention, the method involves a consumer, one or more product ordering service providers, or service ordering providers, or bill payment service providers, and associated suppliers and delivery agencies, wherein the method comprises:
providing a user/consumer with a terminal for generating a shopping/service list, such terminal being implemented as a product/service input device configured to read, collect, transmit product/service identification data;
generating a shopping/service list containing product/service identification data;
transmitting the generated shopping/service list containing the product/service identification data to an order management system through a network; and
the generated shopping/service list is processed based on the product/service identification data contained in the list and the list is completed to deliver the product or service to the user/consumer.
In an embodiment of the invention, in the step of providing the consumer with a terminal for generating a shopping/service list, the terminal is implemented as a product/service input device capable of collecting product/service identification data. The product/service input device may be in the form of any one or more embodiments of a product/service input device according to the principles of the above-described aspects in accordance with the invention.
In an embodiment of the invention, in the step of generating a shopping/service list containing product/service identification data, the shopping/service list is generated by using a product/service input device having user interaction functionality of the device, in particular, its interactive display unit and other associated tools/components/devices and functions.
In certain embodiments, in the step of generating a shopping/service list containing product/service identification data, such data may be stored at a product/service input device and then transmitted to a remote computing device/server as part of an order management system managed by one or more product or service order providers, or bill pay service providers, and associated suppliers and delivery agencies.
In an embodiment of the invention, in the step of processing the generated shopping/service list based on the product/service identification data contained in the list and completing the list to deliver or provide the service to the user/consumer, the shopping/service list may be processed in accordance with a subscription management system managed by one or more product subscription service providers or service subscription providers, or bill payment service providers, and associated suppliers and delivery agencies. In embodiments, one or more product subscription service providers, or service subscription providers, or bill payment service providers, and associated suppliers and delivery mechanisms may be the same entity with different roles and functions, or they may be separate entities.

Detailed Description
The present invention provides a product/service input device 20 and method for generating a shopping/service list and completing the shopping/service list. The term "product/service input device" as referred to throughout this document refers to a product/service input device 20 in accordance with the principles of the present invention that facilitates product ordering, service ordering, and bill payment involving or using the product/service input device 20 in accordance with the present invention. Further, the term "shopping/service list" as referred to herein refers to a list of product, service, or bill identification data and/or descriptions entered into the product/service input device 20 by a user of the product/service input device 20. Further, such terms as any element or component described in singular or plural (e.g., product/service provider(s), service organization(s), merchant(s), financial organization (s)) created by the present invention may be used interchangeably. A detailed description of a preferred exemplary embodiment according to the inventive principles of this patent will now be described with reference to fig. 1 to 13, which form a part of this specification, wherein:
in one aspect of the present invention, as shown in the exemplary scenario of operation in FIG. 1, the present invention provides a product/service input device 20 configured to read and collect product/service identification data, which may be in the form of various encoding systems (e.g., bar code, QR code, etc.). The product/service input device 20 is further configured to process and store the collected product/service identification data and transmit such data over a network or the internet to a remote computing device or server or cloud storage, the remote computing device or server or cloud storage is part of order management system 30, order management system 30 is managed by one or more product ordering service providers 40, service providers 50, and bill payment service providers 60 and/or includes associated suppliers and delivery facilities that enable one or more of product ordering service providers 40, service providers 50, and bill payment service providers 60 and/or includes associated suppliers and delivery facilities as part of order management system 30, to complete the shopping and service listings and deliver the product or service to the user of the product/service input device 20. The product ordering service provider 40 may include one or more parties that offer products for sale or for other purposes (such as, for example, supermarkets, convenience stores, retailers, and supermarkets), collectively referred to as a product organization 41. Service provider 50 may include one or more parties that provide services (e.g., cleaning services, garden services, home care services, plumbing services, laundry services, catering/meal services (restaurants)), including associated supplier merchants and delivery mechanisms, collectively referred to as service mechanisms 51. The bill payment service provider 60 may include one or more parties that provide bill payment services on behalf of merchants 61, such as banks or other financial services companies, telecommunication companies, power grid companies, rental/employment service companies, etc., that periodically collect the fees for providing the services as bills. Order management system 30 is configured to process the shopping/service listings based on product/service identification data transmitted from the product/service input device to enable one or more of product ordering service provider 40, service provider 50, and bill payment service provider 60 to complete the shopping/service listings or complete the transaction. The product ordering service provider 40, the service provider 50 and the bill payment service provider 60, and associated parties, may be a single, same entity with different roles and functions. It is also possible that the product ordering service provider 40, the service provider 50 and the bill payment service provider 60 may be separate entities having specific roles and functions. For example, a particular product ordering service provider 40 may offer a product to a consumer and deliver the product to the consumer itself, i.e., a user of the product/service input device. While in a different scenario, a particular product ordering service provider 40 may offer a product to a consumer (i.e., a user of product/service input device 20), but it subcontracts the delivery functionality to a different party (e.g., a delivery mechanism). The product ordering service provider 40, the service provider 50 and the bill payment service provider 60 and the product/service input device 20 are linked to a payment gateway linked to a network of financial institutions 70, and a consumer may have an account with the financial institutions 70 to enable a user of the product/service input device 20 to make purchases of products, services or pay bills or complete financial transactions using credit cards, debit cards, other types of stored value cards or electronic banking services.
Fig. 2-5 illustrate example embodiments of a product/service input device 20 used as a terminal for generating a shopping/service list, which is located in a consumer's home, residence, office, restaurant or other business or private location to generate a shopping/service list. The product/service input device 20 includes: a motherboard 70, which includes a central processing unit 80 and a main memory unit 99 "and is equipped with a processor running a software application or other computer readable program designed for the following purposes or functions, including but not limited to: reading, collecting and processing, displaying, transmitting data acquired/received/transmitted by the product/service input device 20; a display unit 90 configured to allow or facilitate user interaction with the product/service input device 20; a product identification code scanner/reader 96 and an activation device (e.g., a proximity sensor 97) configured to scan/read a product identification code (e.g., a barcode or QR code); a connection device 81 configured to allow product/service input device 20 to connect, either wired or wirelessly or cellular over a network, to a remote computing device forming part of order management system 30 to be able to transmit data including product identification data to be stored and/or processed by order management system 30 of one or more product ordering service providers 40, service providers 50 and bill payment service providers 60 and related parties. The product input device 20 is powered by a power source 95, and the power source 95 provides power to the product/service input device 20. The supply of power to the product/service input device 20 may be regulated via the switch button 92, the switch button 92 also serving as a means to activate or deactivate the product/service input device 20. The product/service input device 20 also includes an audio/visual device 85 configured to display audio visual data or content on the product/service input device 20 to facilitate a user in performing or taking a particular action or command while entering a product/service identification code on the product/service input device 20. The audio-visual device 85 may be a combination of a software application, a speaker 86, a microphone 87 configured to display audio-visual content including audio, video data to facilitate user product/service input device 20 interaction or execution of requests or commands while inputting product/service identification data into the product/service input device 20 or completing payment transactions including bill payments on the product/service input device 20.
In a preferred embodiment, the display unit 90 is an interactive touch screen display unit that displays various user interaction screens and functions in response to signals or input data or requests, or execution of command sequences by a user of the product/service input device 20, or as a result of processing of data by the central processing unit 80 of the product input device 20. In one example, with the product input device 20 "powered on," the product input device 20 (including its product identification code scanner/reader 96 and activation device (e.g., proximity sensor 97), display unit 90) is activated and on standby, and the central processing unit 80, having a processor running a software application or other computer readable application or program, is ready to run in accordance with received signals, data, input, or executed commands or requests.
In embodiments of the present invention, power source 95 may be in the form of a battery (including and not limited to a dry cell battery or a rechargeable battery) or a power source (such as a wall outlet). In the case of a wall outlet, the product/service input device 20 also includes an AC/DC adapter 98. AC/DC adapter 98 may be built-in, embedded into product/service input device 20, or it may be externally located and integrated with the cord/cord. In an embodiment, the product/service input device 20 may be equipped with dual power supplies. That is, product/service input device 20 may be powered at any one time by connecting product/service input device 20 to a wall outlet using a cord, or when it is not plugged into a wall outlet, it may also run a dry cell or rechargeable battery pack, which may be charged and recharged.
As described above, in embodiments of the invention, the product/service input device 20 is linked to a payment gateway linked to the financial institution 70 or a network of financial institutions, the user of the product/service input device 20 may have an account with which to use, for example, credit cards, debit cards, electronic banking services to facilitate and process payments to allow payment or financial transactions or to facilitate bill payment transactions for purchased products/services. In this embodiment, the product/service input device 20 may also be connected to a network of financial institutions 70 or other financial or payment service providers (including credit card issuing banks, for example) to enable credit card payment processing for bill settlement or payment of products or services.
In embodiments of the present invention, the product/service input device 20 may be designed to be stationary or portable.
In an embodiment, the product/service input device 20 is designed to be stationary. In this embodiment, the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 and the activation device (e.g., proximity sensor 97) are constructed to be integrated into the product/service input device 20, see fig. 2. In an embodiment of the present invention, the product/service input device 20 may be a plug-in type, wherein the product/service input device 20 is connected to a wall outlet for supplying power.
In an embodiment, the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 and the proximity sensor 97 are constructed as a removable unit 120 configured to be removable from the main unit of the product/service input device 20. In this embodiment, the product/service input device includes a secondary memory unit 99 (memory unit of the removable unit 120) disposed at the removable unit 120. Details of the removable unit 120 will be described further below.
In another embodiment, the product/service input device 20 is designed to be portable. The product/service input device 20 may operate a built-in power source 95 (e.g., a rechargeable battery).
In the embodiment of the present invention, as shown in fig. 5, the connection device 81 of the product/service input device 20 includes, for example: GSM module 82, such as an air card with a SIM card, and/or WIFI module 83 and/or bluetooth module 84, which enables product identification data to be transmitted via a cellular network, to enable product/service identification data to be transmitted to a remote computing device of order management system 30, either wired or wirelessly. The product/service input device 20 does not have to be equipped with all examples of the above-described connection device 81, rather, the product/service input device 20 is configured to be compatible with the various available options. It may be equipped with some kind of connection means 81 to enable the product/service input means to effectively perform the required functions, i.e. to send product identification data to the remote computing means of the order management system 30 over the network, while it may also be equipped with more than one connection means 81 to provide options that are more preferred or alternative to being available to the user. The product/service input device 20 also includes a USB hub 75 to enable connectivity of the product/service input device with other hardware.
Fig. 5 also shows a graphical representation of a component arrangement of the embodiment of the product/service input device of fig. 4, wherein the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96, the proximity sensor 97 are configured to be removable from and re-attachable to the body of the product/service input device 20 as desired. The removable unit 120 also includes a power source 95 "(e.g., a rechargeable battery) to power the removable unit 120, a non-volatile internal secondary memory unit 99 to store data including product/service identification data collected by the removable unit 120. However, those skilled in the art will readily recognize that a product/service input device 20 may be provided wherein the product/service input device 20 may comprise a single central processing unit or multiple processing units (including multiple microprocessors). For example, in embodiments where the product/service input device 20 includes the removable unit 120, the product/service input device 20 may be provided with a single or multiple processing units (e.g., one main central processing unit 80 having a main memory unit 99 "(a memory unit at the motherboard 70) disposed on the main unit of the product input device 20 and a sub-central processing unit (not shown) having a sub-memory 99 at the removable unit 120) to store the processed data and perform the specified functions while remotely and remotely operating the removable unit 120 from the main unit of the product/service input device 20. In this embodiment, it is more convenient because the removable unit 120 is removable, which allows the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 and associated components (including the proximity sensor 97 powered by the power source 95") to be moved to operate away from the main unit of the product/service input device 20. For example, the removable unit 120 is configured to be coupled/connected to electrical terminals 125 provided on the body of the product/service input device 20, such that the removable unit 120 is coupled to the electrical terminals 125 on the main unit of the product/service input device 20, which completes the connection circuitry such that it enables the removable unit 120 to transfer/transmit/download product/service identification data collected by the removable unit 120 to the main memory unit 99 "of the product/service input device 20, or to be read, processed and displayed on the display unit 90 by the central processing unit 80, or otherwise combined with product identification data stored at the product/service input device 20, such that the product/service identification data can be combined or integrated into a single product/service listing, the list is prepared for delivery or transmission to remote computing devices of order management system 30 managed by product order service provider 40, service provider 50, and bill payment service provider 60, as well as associated parties.
In the inventive embodiment, product/service input device 20 also includes an external input switch 100 configured to read, collect and store product identification data and operable to assist product/service input device 20. Fig. 7 illustrates an example embodiment of the external input switch 100. Fig. 8 shows a graphical representation of the component arrangement of the external input switch 100 and its connection to the product/service input device 20.
In an embodiment, as shown in fig. 6 and 7, external input switch 100 includes a central processing unit 105 having an internal non-volatile memory unit, a power source (such as a battery 110) to power external input switch 100, and a bluetooth module 115 (bluetooth module 115 of external input switch is a separate unit from bluetooth module 84 of product/service input device), bluetooth module 115 allowing external input switch 100 to communicate with product/service input device 20 and to pass or send product/service identification data stored at external input switch 100 to product/service input device 20 via low power bluetooth technology. See also fig. 8. The external input switch 100 may be operated via operation of one or more input buttons 120. The central processing unit 105 of the external input switch 100 may be in the form of a microprocessor with its own memory. The external input switch 100 is configured to be synchronized with the product/service input device 20, and it is configured to be programmable (set) via the product/service input device 20. The external input switch 100 is configured to be programmed to enable the designated product identification data and the designated amount/unit to be changed. The bluetooth module 115 within the external input switch 100 allows the external input switch 100 to wirelessly communicate or connect with the product/service input device 20 such that data stored at the external input switch 100 including the product/service identification code is communicated to the product/service input device 20.
In an embodiment, the external input switch 100 is configured to pre-store specified product identification data and specified amounts/units of products to facilitate mass ordering/purchasing of a particular product. The specified product identification data and the specified quantity/unit are transmitted to the product/service input device 20 by low power bluetooth technology. Other forms of near field communication that allow data transfer between external input switch 100 and product/service input device 20 are also possible. The external input switch 100 is designed to facilitate mass ordering/purchasing of products, for example, for purchasing a major product or a routine. This would be very convenient for e.g. offices, restaurants or food and beverage shops or other types of business operators who would regularly need a large number of specific items. Instead of having to input (i.e., scan a bar code to) a product identification code to the product/service input device 20 for each unit of a desired amount of product and determine the input for each item on the display unit 90, or having to scan a product identification code for a desired item and input the number of desired units on the display unit 90 individually, the user simply uses the external input switch 100 to complete the task by pressing the input button 120 of the external input switch 100. By operating the input button 120 on the external input switch 100, pre-stored product identification data of a product and a unit designated in advance are communicated to the product/service input device 20, and such data will be displayed on the display unit 90 of the product/service input device 20, enabling the user to confirm the product identification input (entry) into the list of items to be ordered/purchased. Similarly, external input switch 100 may be configured to store specified service identification data (e.g., those service identifications that a user regularly requires or subscribes to) as applicable or possible.
As described above, external input switch 100 may be operable via operation of one or more input buttons 120 to communicate pre-stored data to product/service input device 20 to form part of a shopping/service list to be further processed by product/service input device 20. The term "one or more input buttons 120" means that the external input switch 100 may include one input button 120 or more than one input button 120. In embodiments where the external input switch 100 includes one input button 120, the external input switch 100 may be configured to pre-store a single set of product identification data, which may point to identification data for a single product or several products. However, external input switch 100 may also be configured to pre-store multiple sets of product identification data, which may point to identification data of multiple products, such that manipulating input button 120 in different ways may result in different commands or cause external input switch 100 to send different sets of data to product/service input device 20. Also, in embodiments where the external input switch 100 includes more than one input button 120, each input button 120 may be assigned or assigned to a different product identification code, such that each input button 120 is assigned to send a different set of data to the product/service input device 20.
Further, as noted above, the term "product/service input device" as referred to herein refers to a product/service input device 20 in accordance with the inventive principles of this patent that facilitates product ordering, service placement, and bill payment involving or using the product/service input device 20 in accordance with the inventive principles of this patent. Further, the term "shopping/service list" as referred to herein refers to a list of products, services or bills that are input by the user to the product/service input device 20. Thus, the product/service input device 20 may be configured to implement different interfaces or windows or indicia or applications for product orders, service orders, or bill payment services, among others. In an embodiment, the product/service input device 20 is configured to enable a bill settled payment transaction, such as a utility bill, credit card bill, or the like, through the product/service input device 20 connected to a payment gateway linked to a network of financial institutions so as to allow electronic payment using credit cards, debit cards, electronic banking services, or other types of stored value cards, or the like. In this embodiment, the product/service input device 20 operates or functions in the same manner as the following case: the product or service is ordered using the bar code as a product/service identification code. Similarly, the product/service input device 20 is configured to recognize a bill identification code (e.g., a barcode of a bill) to enable the user to further proceed with the bill payment transaction. A detailed description of product ordering, service ordering or bill payment involving or using the product/service input device 20 created in accordance with the present invention will be further described below with respect to the corresponding operational flow.
As mentioned above, in an embodiment, the product/service input device 20 includes an audio-visual device 85, which may include a speaker 87 and a microphone 86 with accompanying software or applications. By way of example, speakers 87 may be used to present audio content (described further below) such as push content that is sent from order management system 30 or product ordering service provider 40, service provider 50 and bill payment service provider 60 and associated product entity 41, service entity 51 and merchant 61. Further, a speaker 87 is provided to provide various audio notifications to a user of the product/service input device 20. For example, upon scanning the product/service identification code, the product/service input device 20 may issue an audio notification (e.g., "beep") to notify the user that the barcode has been scanned. In another example, the speaker 87 may provide sound effects for audio content received or rendered by the product/service input device 20. In another example, the microphone 86 is used to provide voice commands for operating or executing commands on the product/service input device 20, as will be discussed further below.
As shown in fig. 1 and 9-10, the product/service input device 20 is configured to communicate with a remote computing device, server, cloud server, or the like, which forms part of the order management system 30, over the internet or network. The product/service input device 20 is not only configured to transmit data to the order management system 30, but may also be configured to receive data or content (push content) from such a remote computing device, server, cloud server, or the like of the order management system 30. In one example, the data or content may be in the form of a text message or audio visual content that may be directed to a promotional text message, an in-store discount offer, or the like. In one example scenario, the content may be in the form of audio visual data to be processed and displayed on the display unit 90 of the product/service input device 20. Preferably, the received content relates to a product or service ordered by the user. For example, during scanning (i.e., entering a product identification code on the product/service input device 20), for example, laundry care products (e.g., detergents), the push received by the product/service input device 20 may relate to an in-store promotional program (e.g., "buy two-for-one") that may be displayed on the display unit 90 of the product/service input device 20 to advertise to the user when the user wishes to accept a promotional offer or decline an offer. In another example, the content may be directed to products that are similarly related or related in category to the scanned product, providing the user/consumer with an opportunity to also order or purchase different services or product lines, different sizes (volumes), different brands or related products, or alternative products. Preferably, in one example, the user/consumer may turn off or skip or ignore the content and continue the input process as usual, or disable the push service, the user/consumer may not wish to receive such content for a promotional or advertising message.
Further, in addition to the audio notification (product/service input device 20 equipped with speaker 87 for its preference) as described above, the product/service input device may be configured to issue different formats of notifications to the user/consumer. For example, the notification may be in the form of a light (e.g., red or green) to show different operating states of product/service input device 20. In another example, the notification may be in the form of an image or a visual symbol. In any case, an element configured to issue such notifications should be provided, with a corresponding microcontroller responsible for controlling or issuing such notifications.
In an embodiment, the product/service input device 20 is configured to be paired with or have other applications, programs, or software installed with other electronic devices having a bluetooth module (e.g., a smart phone, a smart watch, or other similar gadget) to accommodate users of different styles. It can also be synchronized to the home automation system, enabling centralized control of home automation from the product/service input devices.
In an embodiment, product/service input device 20 may also include a location identification device to transmit its location, thereby providing a concise location of product/service input device 20 to product ordering service provider 40, service provider 50 and bill payment service provider 60 or other associated product or service agencies 41, 51, which may be beneficial for managing delivery routes or managing delivery for delivery of products or services to consumers/users.
Although it has been described above that the product/service input device 20 is configured to read and collect product/service identification data and send or pass such product identification data to the order management system 30 for further processing, it is feasible that the product identification is not limited to bar codes or QR codes, and the means for reading or identifying the product identification code is not limited to the product identification code scanner/reader 96 or the product identification code is limited to bar codes or QR codes. The product/service input device 20 may be configured to recognize different forms of product identification coding systems. Thus, in an embodiment, the product/service input device 20 is configured to recognize the product/service identification code via a voice command or an audio code. That is, a user of the product/service input device 20 can enter the product/service identification code by speaking or providing an audio code to the product/service input device 20 via the microphone 86. Thus, in this embodiment, the product/service input device 20 further includes a voice recognition module 88 configured to enable the product/service input device 20 to accept input of product/identification data via voice commands or as audio codes. See fig. 6. A particular product/service identification code may be formulated or paired or mapped as an audio code for a product/service/billing identification code database maintained by order management system 30 or product ordering service provider 40, service provider 50 and billing payment service provider 60 by configuring voice recognition module 88 and associated software/applications. For example, a user of product/service input device 20 may formulate a specific generic name or a generic product name (e.g., "chicken soup") by pairing the spoken phrase "chicken soup" with an identification code of a specific brand, volume, or size, flavor chicken soup maintained by order management system 30 or product ordering service provider 40. Once the user of the product/service input device 20 inputs the audio code "chicken soup" into the product/service input device 20, the order management system 30 or the product ordering service provider 40 checks the code "chicken soup" against its product identification code database and displays specific chicken soup (or chicken soup that has been paired/mapped) that can be matched with the product identification code and is required on the display unit 90 of the product/service input device 20 to enable the user to confirm the order.
Further, it should be understood that the specific product/service identification code may be paired or mapped with numeric or alphabetic codes in a manner similar to that described above (i.e., pairing or mapping audio codes with product identification codes maintained by order management system 30 or product ordering service provider 40, service provider 50, and bill payment service provider 60). That is, in this embodiment, a user of product/service input device 20 will be able to type in or enter specifically designated number(s) (preferably a combination of numbers that is shorter and simpler than the actual bar code number of the product) or letter(s) using a key or keyboard (preferably as a virtual keyboard, an integrated keyboard, or a keyboard application installed on product/service input device 20). Such numeric or alphabetic codes have been formulated and paired with specific product/service identification codes maintained by order management system 30 or product ordering service provider 40, service provider 50 and bill payment service provider 60. This may be particularly useful for certain situations or certain user groups. For example, a user may manually enter a product barcode number when the product/identification code scanner/reader is unable to read the barcode of the product. However, for certain groups of people (e.g., elderly people or people with poor eyesight), entering accurate product barcode numbers (which are typically very small) can be a difficult task, and thus, alternative forms of entering product/service identification codes (e.g., audio codes (via voice commands), numeric codes, or alphabetic codes) as described above can be very useful.
Examples of the operational flow and use of the product/service input device will now be described, wherein examples of operational flow of product ordering, service ordering and bill payment will be discussed.
In use, the product/service input device 20 may be distributed by the service provider to the consumer according to particular conditions or circumstances. The user/consumer is required to provide personal identification means or contact information (e.g., contact phone number (s)) as a form of registration or activation of product input device 20 at the time of initial first use of the product/service input device. The information provided will enable the service provider and product agency 41, service agency 51 and merchant 61 to contact the user/consumer to confirm the consumer's identity, confirm the order and arrange for delivery or access to the consumer to provide the service. The product/service input device 20 may be embedded with a location identification device to provide information about the location of the product/service input device 20, which may be beneficial for managing delivery routes or managing delivery for delivering products or services to consumers/users. The product/service input device 20 is linked to an order management system 30 in which a database containing product/service identification codes is maintained. Once the product/service input device 20 is "on" and the consumer or user enters the product/service identification code into the product/service input device 20 by entering the product/service identification code into the product/service input device 20 as a universal barcode, audio code, formulated numeric code, or formulated alphabetic code, the product/service input device will process the product/service identification code and communicate with the order management system 30 to match the corresponding product/service identification code with the product/service description and retrieve the corresponding product/service description and display the information on the display unit 90 to enable the user/consumer to confirm the order for that particular product/service. In entering the product/service/billing identification code into the product/service input device 20, the user/consumer is required to specify the number of units or amounts of the product/service and confirm each entry/entry of the product/service/billing identification code into the product/service input device 20, which will later be used as an order/shopping list for the user/consumer. However, the product/service input device 20 may be configured to collect a plurality of product/service/billing identification codes (such as a list of product/service identification codes) and may confirm such a list of entered product/service identification codes with a single confirmation. After each entry of a product/service identification code or after each confirmation, the consumer will have the option to continue to add more product/service identification codes. In the event that the user/consumer incorrectly enters a product/service identification code or no longer wishes to order/purchase such an item or service, the user may remove such item or service from the list by pressing an icon, symbol or word on an assigned button on the display screen 90 that conveys a "delete" or "cancel" or "return" and performs such a function. Once entry of the product/service identification code is complete, the consumer will have the opportunity to save and store the list on the device and may modify or improve the list as needed and submit or communicate the list to order management system 30 as needed, or submit or communicate the list to order management system 30 after entry of the product identification code is complete. Order management system 30 will then generate an order number and confirm the order with the user or consumer, for example, by: short message service or other form of notification to the user/consumer mobile device (i.e., registered cell phone number) or to the product/service input device 20 itself. Order management system 30 or product ordering service provider 40, service provider 50 and bill payment service provider 60 will then complete the order by delivering the product/service or complete the transaction.
In embodiments where the product/service input device 20 includes the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 as the removable unit 120, the user/consumer may remove the removable unit 120 and use the removable unit 120 to scan/read product identifications, e.g., large, bulky items or items remote from the product/service input device 20. Once the removable unit 120 is returned and coupled to the main unit of the product/service input device 20, the product identification code data that has been processed and stored in the non-volatile memory unit 99 of the removable unit 120 will be transferred or downloaded to the central processing unit 80 of the product/service input device 20 for further processing. This is an embodiment that will be more understood, wherein the product/service input device 20 is configured to allow for the validation of multiple product identification codes with a single validation. That is, where the removable unit 120 is configured to read and collect the product identification codes remotely from the main unit of the product/service input device 20, it is inconvenient for the user to return to the display unit 90 to provide entry of the product identification code or confirmation of each entry, thereby providing a single confirmation of a list of multiple product identification codes.
As described above, in one embodiment, the product/service input device 20 further includes an external input switch 100, see fig. 9. In this embodiment, the user may use a preprogrammed external input switch 100 that carries one or more sets of data of the product identification code and the designated units of the product to enter the product identification code and the desired units by operating the input buttons 120 on the external input switch 100. The specified product identification code and the specified number of units will be communicated or transmitted to the product/service input device 20 via low power bluetooth technology (i.e., bluetooth module 115), see fig. 8. Thus, such data will be displayed on the display unit 90 of the product/service input device 20 to allow the user/consumer to confirm the order as usual.
Possibly, the user may pay for the ordered/purchased product/service at the time of delivery or through other methods or payment channels. It is also possible that the product/service identification code and unit price will be updated periodically by order management system 30 or product ordering service provider 40, service provider 50 and bill payment service provider 60. Thus, the product/service order list generated using the product/service input device 20 will include the total price of the ordered/purchased product/service. Thus, the product/service input device 20 is linked to a network of payment gateways and financial institutions 70, which enables the user/consumer to pay for the product/service at the product/service input device 20 using a credit or debit card or electronic banking service, in accordance with the protocols and security modules established by the gateways and financial institutions 70, to conduct transactions and avoid theft or fraud. Further, the order management system 30 or the product ordering service provider 40, the service provider 50 and the bill payment service provider 60 are also connected to a network of financial institutions 70 (e.g., credit card issuing banks) to authenticate and approve card payments, as generally known in the art.
Example of product ordering operational flow
As shown in fig. 11, a user of product/service input device 20 activates product/service input device 20 and completes the registration process by providing a user identification (e.g., a telephone number or other personal identification means). The user identification or other personal identification means may be stored in a profile database at the product/service input device 20 so that the information may be saved for future access. The user may then pick a portal, window or label or application from the display unit 90 for product ordering. The product identification code scanner/reader 96 and/or the external input switch 100 are ready and on standby. In this example, the user may then enter the product identification code using the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 (as an integrated (attached) unit or a removable unit 120) and/or the external input switch 100. The product/service input device 20 retrieves the product identification from a product identification code database (in this example, a barcode database) maintained by the order management system 30 and/or the product agency 41 and displays a product description (e.g., product brand, package size, volume, or image of the product, etc.) and unit price on the display unit 90 of the product/service input device 20. The user can then increase the required number (amount) of units of product as desired. The user will then have the option of adding more product identification codes and enter additional product identification codes by scanning the identification code of the next product. Once the entry of the product identification code is complete, the user may then place an order and confirm the order, wherein an order or product order list is communicated or sent over the internet or network to, for example, a remote computing device, server, or cloud server of the order management system 30, wherein the order management system 30 will generate and record the user's order number in an order database (e.g., order number, product list, user identity, etc.) and send a confirmation notification of the order receipt and the order number to the user via, for example, a short message service to the consumer. The product order is then considered complete and the user may deactivate the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 at the product/service input device 20 and end the process. Product ordering service provider 40 and/or product facility 41, as part of order management system 30, may then perform the order and deliver the product to the user or consumer. Wherein, upon completion of entering the product identification code into the product/service input device 20 and the user does not wish to immediately place an order with the order management system 30, the user may save the data in the main memory unit 99 "of the product/service input device 20 and may place an order at a later time if desired. The user may then deactivate the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 at the product/service input device 20 and end the process.
Example of service subscription operational flow
As shown in fig. 12, a user of product/service input device 20 activates product/service input device 20 and completes the registration process by providing a user identification (e.g., a telephone number or other personal identification means). The user identification or other personal identification means may be stored in a profile database at the product/service input device 20 so that the information may be saved for future access. The user may then pick a portal, window or tab or application from the display unit 90 for service subscription. The product identification code scanner/reader 96 and/or the external input switch 100 are ready and on standby. In this example, the user may then enter the service identification code using the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 (as an integrated (attached) unit or a removable unit 120) and/or the external input switch 100. In this example, the service identification code may be, for example, a delivered food or service provided by a service institution 51 (e.g., a restaurant), where the user may enter a barcode for a particular menu or where such service barcode is a particular restaurant, where, upon scanning the service identification code, the available menus retrieved from the order management system 30 or a service database of a service order provider 50 that is part of the order management system 30 will be displayed along with the service (food/tableware) description and unit price and allow the user to pick the desired menu and quantity from the screen of the display unit 90. The user may be provided with an opportunity to enter additional information about the service, for example, in the event that the user does not wish to have an MSG in the ordered menu. The user may then place a subscription and confirm the placement, wherein the subscription or service subscription list is communicated or sent over the internet or network to, for example, a remote computing device, server, or cloud server of the subscription management system 30, wherein the subscription management system 30 will generate and record the user's subscription number in a subscription database (such as subscription number, service list, user identity, etc.) and send the user a confirmation notification of the subscription receipt and the subscription number via, for example, a short message service to the consumer. The service order is then considered complete and the user may deactivate the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 at the product/service input device 20 and end the process. Service subscription service provider 50, as part of subscription management system 30, may then perform the subscription and deliver the service to the user or customer. Wherein, after completing the entry of the service identification code into the product/service input device and the user does not wish to immediately order the order to the order management system 30, the user may save the data in the main memory unit 99 "of the product/service input device and may order the order at a later time if desired. The user may deactivate the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 at the product/service input device 20 and end the process.
For both product and service orders, depending on policies and arrangements and available options, the user may pay for the ordered product or service at the time of delivery or completion of the order, or after placing an order via a payment gateway as described above.
Example of a bill payment operational flow
As shown in fig. 13, a user of product/service input device 20 activates product/service input device 20 and completes the registration process by providing a user identification (e.g., a telephone number or other personal identification means). The user identification or other personal identification means may be stored in a profile database at the product/service input device 20 so that the information may be saved for future access. The user may then pick a portal, window or tab or application from the display unit 90 for bill payment. The product identification code scanner/reader 96 is ready and on standby. In this example, the user may then enter the billing identification code using the product/service identification code scanner/reader 96 (as an integrated (attached) unit or a removable unit 120). Order management system 30 may then retrieve the billing information from a billing database maintained by merchant 61 and display the billing description and the total payable amount of the bill. The user will then be requested to select whether to continue payment or cancel payment. In the event that the user wishes to continue payment, the user will be required to provide credit card information and an authentication code and send the data to subscription management system 30 and bill payment service provider 60 as part of subscription management system 30. The bill payment service provider 60 may perform a credit card validation/credit check with the financial institution 70 that issued the credit card. In the event that the card is found to be invalid or in the event that there is no credit, the user will be required to provide a substitute credit card. In the event that the card validity and credit checks are valid and payment is accepted, the subscription management system will issue a notification to the user confirming payment with the receipt number and store the transaction history in a paid bill database maintained by bill payment service provider 60 at subscription management system 30. The payment is considered complete.
In another aspect of the present invention, the present invention provides a method of generating a shopping/service list and completing the shopping/service list using the product/service input device 20.
In an embodiment of the invention, a method involves a consumer, one or more product ordering service providers 40 or service ordering providers 50 or bill payment service providers 60, wherein the method comprises:
providing a consumer with a terminal for generating a shopping/service list, such terminal being embodied as a product/service input device (20) configured to read, collect product/service identification data;
generating a shopping/service list containing product/service identification data input into the product/service input device (20);
transmitting the generated shopping/service list containing product identification data over a network to a remote computing device, server or cloud server forming part of an order management system (30), the order management system (30) being managed by one or more product ordering service providers (40), service providers (50) and bill payment service providers (60); and
the generated shopping/service list is processed based on the product/service identification data contained in the list and the list is completed to deliver the product or service to the consumer.
In an embodiment of the invention, in the step of providing the consumer with a terminal for generating a shopping/service list, the terminal is implemented as a product/service input device 20 configured to read and collect product/service identification data, as described in the first aspect of the invention. The product/service input device 20 may be in the form of any one or more embodiments of a product/service input device according to the principles of the above-described aspects in accordance with the invention.
In the inventive embodiment of the present invention, in the step of generating a shopping/service list containing product/service identification code data, the shopping/service list is generated by using the product/service input device 20 and a user interacting with the product/service input device 20, in particular the interactive display unit 90 thereof and other associated tools/components/devices, such as the product/service identification code scanner/reader for inputting the product identification code in the form of a two-dimensional code, a QR code, a numeric code, a mother-son code, an audio code, as described above, an external input switch, a voice recognition module, and associated software/applications installed at the product/service input device 20.
In certain embodiments, in the step of generating a shopping/service list containing product/service identification data, such data may be stored at product/service input device 20 and then transmitted to a remote computing device, server, cloud server as part of order management system 30, order management system 30 being managed by one or more of product order service provider 40, service provider 50, and bill payment service provider 60.
In an embodiment of the present invention, in the step of processing the generated shopping/service list based on the product/service identification data contained in the list and completing the list to deliver the product/service to the user, the shopping/service list is processed by the order management system 30 managed by one or more of the product ordering service provider 40, the service provider 50, and the bill payment service provider 60 (including the product agency 41, the service agency 51, and the merchant 61), all of which are part of the order management system 30, and the shopping/service list is completed and the product/service is delivered to the user of the product/service input device 20. In embodiments, one or more product subscription service providers 40 or service subscription providers 50 or bill payment service providers 60 (including product agency 41, service agency 51, merchant 61), which are part of subscription management system 30, may be the same entity with different roles and functions, or they may be separate entities contracted or commissioned by them.
It will be appreciated by the above-described embodiments of the present invention that the product/service input device and method for generating a shopping/service list and completing the list provides more convenience and effectiveness and eliminates the need for a user to physically present at a place of business to purchase a product/service. The objects of the invention set forth above are therefore considered to be fulfilled. It will be understood by those skilled in the art that various modifications and methods for achieving the same results and effects are intended to be within the spirit and scope of the present invention and appended claims.

Claims (9)

1. A product/service input device (20) comprising:
a motherboard (70), the motherboard (70) having a central processing unit (80), a main memory unit (99"), an audio visual device (85) for reading, collecting, processing, displaying, and transmitting data acquired/collected/received/transmitted by the product/service input device (20);
a display unit (90) configured to allow or facilitate user interaction with the product/service input device (20);
a product/service identification code scanner/reader (96) and proximity sensor (97) configured to scan/read a product/service identification code;
a power supply (95) that supplies power to the product/service input device (20); and
a USB hub (75), a connection means (81) configured to allow a wired or wireless or cellular connection of said product/service input means (20) with an order management system (30) to be able to transmit data, said data comprising product/service identification code data to be stored and processed by said order management system (30).

The product/service input device (20) of claim 1, wherein the connection device (81) of the product/service input device (20) comprises a GSM module (82) or a WIFI module (83) or a bluetooth module (84) or a combination thereof for wired or wireless transmission of product/service identification code data.
3. The product/service input device (20) of claim 2, wherein the product/service identification code scanner/reader (96) and the proximity sensor (97) are constructed to be integrated into a body of the product/service input device (20) or as a removable unit (120).

The product/service input device (20) of claim 3, wherein the removable unit (120) is detachable from the body of the product/service input device (20) and includes the product/service identification code scanner/reader (96) and the proximity sensor (97), a power source (95"), a secondary memory unit (99) to allow movement of the product/service identification code scanner/reader (96) and the proximity sensor (97) powered by the power source (95") to read and collect product/service identification codes and operate remotely from the body of the product/service input device (20); the removable unit (120) is configured to be coupled or connected to electrical terminals (125) provided on the body of the product/service input device (20) such that once the removable unit (120) is engaged to the electrical terminals (125) on the body of the product/service input device (20), it completes the connecting circuitry such that the product identification code data collected by the removable unit (120) is communicated/downloaded or read by the product/service input device (20), or displayed on the display unit (90), or otherwise combined with the product/service identification code data stored at the main memory unit (99") of the product/service input device (20).
5. The product/service input device (20) of claim 3, wherein the product/service input device (20) further comprises an external input switch (100).

The product/service input device (20) of claim 5, wherein the external input switch (100) comprises a central processing unit (105) having an internal non-volatile memory unit, a battery (110) to power the external input switch (100), a Bluetooth module (115) of the external input switch (100), and one or more input buttons (120); the external input switch (100) is configured to communicate and transfer or send product/service identification code data stored at the external input switch (100) to the product/service input device (20).

The product/service input device (20) of any of claims 1 to 6, wherein the product/service identification code scanner/reader (96) is configured to read and collect product/service identification data in the form of codes including, but not limited to: a bar code, a QR code, a numeric code, or an alphabetic code.
8. The product/service input device (20) of claim 7, wherein the product/service input device (20) further comprises a voice recognition module (88) configured to enable the product/service input device (20) to accept input of product/service identification data via voice commands or as audio codes.
9. The product/service input device (20) of claim 8, wherein the product/service input device (20) and the order management system (30) are linked to a payment gateway linked to a network of financial institutions (70) to pay for or complete financial transactions for product, service or bill settlement ordered or purchased using credit cards, debit cards, other types of stored value cards, or electronic banking services.
