Abstract

The multistatic radar system is composed of a transmitter (1), a transmitting antenna (10), at least four distributed receivers (2), units of local processing (8) and a central station (3). The trasmitter (1) generates and radiates in the natural environment a linear frequency modulated waveform. Every receiver (2) collects the line-of-sight signal from the transimitter and the scattered signals from the environment and the targets. After the collection of the signals an appropriate doppler processing scheme is applied for the compression of the unwanted signals (clutter). Finally, an estimation of the bistatic range, corresponding to the path transmitter-target-receiver (known as time-of-flight), and the bistatic doppler of each target is performed in every receiver. The measured quantities, after the appropriate data processing (tracking), are sent through a data-link to a central station (3) where triangulation and track management (for example renew or deletion of the existing tracks, creation of new ones, etc) are being done. The system can give an estimation of the three dimensional positions and movement of the targets approaching the system's coverage area. The invention gives the advantage to detect air vechicles with very low radar cross section and exceeds the performance of the well known monostatic detection approach.
