995,332. Glove boxes. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. May 14, 1963 [May 14, 1962], No. 19037/63. Heading B4Q. In a system for transferring parts into a glove box, the glove box has an aperture 1 in its lower wall provided with a bushing 2 closed by interior and exterior covers 3, 4, the cover 3 carrying a pressure equalizing valve 63 and the bushing 2 being sealed by a sheath 65 located in a groove 62<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 4. The part 70 to be transferred is placed in a tank 5 sealed by a cover 6 clamped against a box flange 7, with the interposition of a gasket, by a lever 56. The tank 5 is carried by a carriage 11 running on wheels 13 guided by tracks (Fig. 2, not shown), the tank being mounted for vertical movement by means of two diametrically opposite screwed rods 35 rotatable in bearings 36, 37 secured to the carriage. Each rod 35 makes threaded engagement with the ends 27, 28 of a sleeve 26 slidable in a pair of lugs 24, 25 secured to the tank but held against rotation by a key 30. A spring 31 is disposed between the lug 25 and a collar 33 secured to the sleeve 26. The rods 35 are rotated by a motor through gear-wheels 38 and a chain (not shown) whereby a lifting force may be applied to the tank 5 through the springs 31. The tank is additionally sealed by a sheath 64 located in a groove 61<SP>1</SP>. In operation, the carriage 11 is moved along the track until it abuts a stop 16, in which position the carriage is beneath the aperture 1 and is locked by a jack 20. The covers 4, 6 are removed and the sheaths 64, 65 are slid into grooves 61, 62 and a flexible sleeve 66 is fixed in the grooves 61<SP>1</SP>, 62 1 , Fig. 5. The sheaths 64, 65 are then removed and the gear-wheels 38 are driven to lift the tank 5 so that a gasket in a groove 44 at the top end of the tank seals with the bushing 2. The amount of upward movement of the box is limited by a micro-switch operated by the tank movement (Fig. 3, not shown). A lifting device (not shown) within the glove box removes the cover 3 and then lifts the part 70 to be transferred from the tank.
