Abstract
994,548. Electric motors. FRANKLIN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. March 6, 1964, No. 9708/64. Heading H2A. A frame 10 for a submersible electric motor driving, e.g. a pump at the bottom of a well, comprises mutually concentric outer and inner elongated tubular casings 22, 23 of non- corrosive metal defining an annular space for containing the stator core and windings 11, 21 and secured respectively to the outer and inner circumferential surfaces 31, 34 of two low carbon steel annular end closure members 26 disposed at opposite ends of the casings, and two end bells 18, 19 secured to the closure members 26 and having annular flange portions 36, 37 covering the closure members in order to substantially seal the latter against contact with corrosive liquid, e.g. water. The casings are welded at 32, 33 to the closure members 26, and the end belts 18, 19, which are also of non-corrosive metal, e.g. stainless steel, are bolted to the closure members 26 and carry rotor sleeve bearings 14, 16 and thrust bearing assembly 17. The closure members 26 may also have a plastic, e.g. epoxy resin protective coating, and a similar material 24 encases the winding end turns. Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), disclose modified arrangements of securing together the outer casing and closure members.
