Abstract

987,383. Brush holders for dynamo electric machines. STACKPOLE CARBON CO. Nov. 19, 1963 [Dec. 26, 1962], No. 45637/63. Heading H2A. A brush holder 1 for reversible electric machines comprises a radial brush receiving passage 3 containing a pair of thin carbon brush half sections 8, 9 disposed face to face and projecting from the passage, and a pair of pressure means each engaging the outer end of a different one of the .sections 8, 9 and pressing those sections inwardly against a rotary cylindrical member and simultaneously laterally away from each other against the opposite sides of the passage. In Figs. 1, 2 the pressure means are a pair of spring loaded arms 4, 5 one of which is cranked to get the correct direction of pressure and which bear upon the rounded outer ends of the brushes. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates a pair of spiral springs whose ends engage the ends of the brushes, and Fig. 4, 5 (not shown) illustrate spiral springs of the constant pressure type whose coils respectively engage the tops of the half brushes.
