986,093. Testing seats. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Jan. 23, 1964, No. 2880/64. Heading A4M. [Also in Division G1] A "manikin" or three dimensional representation of a human being for testing vehicle and like seats has a torso 1 and leg parts 5 of hollow metal covered with foam rubber material 9 of varying thickness to resemble the local hardness of human flesh and load cells 25 attached to the parts have strain gauges 29, 31 (Fig. 4) secured to a beam 27 supported between steel outer plates 33, 35 by rollers 37 soldered to plate 33 and roller 39. Loading on the cells is measured by a multi-channel bridge circuit to determine the pressure distribution exerted by the seat on the manikin. A seat (Fig. 6) similar to the seat to be developed is adjustable in fore and after direction and in height pitch and squab rake, the helical springs being individually adjustable by tension adjusting devices 53 so that it may be adjusted to form a protype seat.
