Abstract
985,640. Wells &c. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Nov. 15, 1963, No. 45304/63. Heading E1F. Crude oil having a specific gravity less than 1À0 at 15‹C. is produced from a formation 1 by injecting into the formation via a well 4 water at a temperature at which its specific gravity is equal to or less than that of the crude oil at the same temperature, and by producing the crude oil from another well 5 penetrating the formation. Steam which may be injected with or prior to the water fills a space 19, and the water forms a layer 20 which cools and sinks through the oil. The oil may be lifted out of the well 5 with water by gas lift. The mixture from the well 5 passes through separators 7, 8 and the separated oil passes through a heat exchanger 13 heating make-up water supplied by a line 14, whilst the separated water passes to a boiler 10. Before passing into the well 4 some of the water from the boiler may be permited to expand into steam, or steam from the boiler may be mixed with the water from the boiler, or steam from the boiler may be mixed with water from a further boiler.
