Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0984029/C2/1> where Z is a dimethylamino, benzylmethylamino, benzylamino, dibenzylamino, methylphenylamino, piperidino or morpholino group and n is an integer from 2 to 10 inclusive, acid addition salts thereof, and their preparation by (a) reacting estrone with an aminoalkyl halide of formula Z-(CH2)n-X, where X is a halogen atom, in the presence of a base, or (b) reacting compounds of formula <FORM:0984029/C2/2> prepared as disclosed in Specification 984,030) with an amine Z-H. 3 - (o - Iodo - n - butoxy) - estra - 1,3,5(10)-trien-17-one is prepared by reacting the corresponding chloro-compound with sodium iodide. The compounds of the invention are converted on reduction to the corresponding 17-hydroxy-derivatives, as described in Specification 983,028. The compounds of the invention are anti-fertility agents and may be used alone or in combination with one or more pharmaceutical diluents or excipients in forms suitable for oral administration, e.g. as tablets, pills, sachets or packaged or encapsulated powders.
