Abstract

In making assemblies from components of ceramics, cermets, alloys and/or metals having different thermal expansion coefficients, these are joined by one or more connecting parts made by powder metallurgy and having a graded composition such that the coefficient of expansion constantly increases from that of one component to that of the other, the ends of each connecting part being joined to the components by such techniques as welding or brazing (see Division B3), or sintering, e.g. by powder metallurgy. The composition of the connecting part is chosen from one or more of the following groups of alloy systems: (1) 29% Ni-17% Co steel to 18% Cr-8% Ni steel; (2) cemented WC to 100% Co; (3) W alloy containing 5% Ni and 3% Cu to 100% Ni; (4) 18% Cr -8% Ni steel to 12% Ni-5% Mn-3.5% Cr steel; the total range of coefficient of expansion, for the temperature range 20-700 DEG C., being 4.5-22.2x10-6/ DEG C.
