Abstract

978,452. Typewriters etc.; stencilling apparatus. THURINGER TEPPICHFABRIKEN VEB. May 23, 1962, No. 19851/62. Headings B6C and B6F. [Also in Division B2] Variable patterns are printed on webs of textile, paper or like material by apparatus comprising a generally rectangular slot-shaped spraying opening or stencil arranged transversely of the direction of movement of the web and having a length corresponding to the width of the web, said opening having a fixed lip and a lip which is selectively resiliently deformable along its length so as to vary the applied pattern. The apparatus may be controlled by perforated tapes, switching tapes, or contact rollers via electric, pneumatic or mechanical connections and the sections of the deformable lip may be operated in accordance with a programme to produce the desired pattern. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 the apparatus comprises a fixed lip 14 and a plurality of levers 12 which may be selectively pressed so as to overcome springs 11 and release bolts 13 so that the pressure of the colour liquid in the chamber 10 lifts the selected pistons 8 and the liquid passes through slotshaped openings 7 on to the web 15. A plastic foil 9 acts as a sealing element. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 a tubular plastic element 23 filled with air constitutes the deformable lip and local deformation is achieved by lifting selected flat steel springs 24.
