977,743. Heat treatment furnaces. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 19, 1961 [Dec. 22, 1960], No. 45451/61. Heading F4B. In a continuous metal-heating furnace, workpieces 3 are passed through an inductor coil 1 on a rollerway conveyer comprising a pair of tubes 2 supplied with steel balls 8 from hoppers 7 and formed in the region of the induction coil as open channels through which the balls protrude sufficiently to carry the workpieces. Each tube 2 is formed with a watercooling pipe 11 and has an opening 9 through which the balls fall into a container 10 as the workpieces are pushed through the furnace by a ram 5. Balls are automatically returned from the containers 11 to the hoppers 7 which are of such a height that the weight of the balls therein does not cause unassisted movement along the tubes 2.
